When speed is of the essence, budgets are limited, resources are strained, and the risks for failure are high, the collaboration between CFOs and CIOs may spell the difference between growth and profitability, or the end of the road for the company. As organizations navigate digital transformation and rely heavily on data for decision-making, the partnership between these two roles has the potential to significantly enhance operational efficiency and strategic alignment. CFOs bring financial acumen and risk management expertise, while CIOs contribute technological insight and innovation. Together, they can leverage technology investments to drive shareholder value, improve data governance, and optimize business processes. This collaboration is essential not only for successful project execution but also for fostering a culture of agility and responsiveness within the organization. How to make this work sustainably is the subject of this special edition of PodChats for FutureCFO and FutureCIO. Joining us to share his perspective on the topic is Andrew Seow, Regional General Manager, South East Asia and Greater China, Rimini Street.1. Looking back, have these personas worked well together in the past? Why or why not?2. What is the secret to getting the two personas, each with its own strengths, weaknesses and priorities, working together effectively?3. Not all IT projects, including digital transformation, are guaranteed to work the first time every time. How should each leader approach these projects to minimise failures when such becomes inevitable?4. If there is a clash, how should the two roles approach the differences to come out with a solution that is mutually beneficial for the two roles and the company as a whole?5. Who is the best intermediary when faced with an escalating clash of personas?6. Can you list three actions critical to achieving a strong, and lasting, CFO-CIO partnership?7. What is your expectations for 2025?

Jason Radisson was introduced to us as a serial ‘unicorn breeder' that we needed to talk with. Well, yes, he has over 20 years of experience in strategy, operations, and growth with global companies like Uber and Brazil's 99Taxis, but what we were really excited about was his passion for bringing frontline workers digital advancements so that they weren't left behind and left out of the technology revolution that has improved the worklife of desk workers in the last five years. Jason is the founder of Movo, a platform designed to streamline processes for any ‘on their feet' or ‘in the field' workforce member by providing a flexible and better connected work experience. All with the goal to lead to productivity enhancements, employee satisfaction and reduction in turnover. Our conversations balanced lessons learned by Jason as a business builder as well as the ambitions of his latest work through Movo. Here are the highlights of our talk: - Motivation Behind Movo: Jason identified a significant gap in the market for digitizing frontline work, particularly for blue-collar workers who lacked the benefits of automation and connectivity seen in white-collar settings. - Value of Experience: Drawing from personal experiences, Jason stresses the importance of gaining industry experience before venturing into entrepreneurship. He suggests that learning from seasoned professionals can help avoid common pitfalls and accelerate growth. - Team Dynamics: A key aspect of Silicon Valley's success, according to Jason, lies in the team's ability to tackle any problem collectively. He emphasizes the importance of fostering a team culture where members feel empowered to solve challenges effectively. - Knowing the Value of Where You Come From: Jason shared how his humble beginnings led him to value education and seek out more in life. He explained how his drive was enriched by a self-funded education, a Fulbright scholarship, and graduate studies at Harvard. Jason Radisson started his career at McKinsey & Company, where he worked with the Firm's top clients in Spain, Germany, and Latin America on high-profile, M&A, organizational design, and workforce projects. As a Regional General Manager at Uber, he launched and grew cities in the western US. He was then hired to run Brazil's 99Taxis, where as COO he grew the business 10x on $50M in invested capital, and sold it to DiDi Chuxing for $1B, making it the most capital-efficient scale-up recorded by a gig marketplace. He is also a member of the Rappi-Mafia, where he was an early investor and helped the Rappi founders scale their Operations and Growth teams efficiently across Latin America. Today, more than 20 venture-backed CEOs are alumni of his earlier teams. Jason is passionate about using mobile technology and algorithms to empower and uplift the frontline workforce, which he believes is the foundation of the economy and society. He founded Movo to address the challenges and opportunities of digitizing this workforce, which is overlooked and underserved by the horizontal technology incumbents. It's a little of a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory situation for us today as we speak to the world's leading manufacturer of chocolate, mints and fruity confections. You might have guessed it – we're speaking to Mars Wrigley, the firm behind world-famous brands including M&M's®, Snickers®, Twix®, Skittles. With a presence in over 180 countries, and nearly 1,000 of its snacks consumed every second, the firm had said in 2022 that it generated revenues of US$45 billion. 12 of its brands generate over a billion US dollars on a yearly basis. In Asia, Mars Wrigley operates as a business unit overseeing 20 markets with its strategic eight being Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia. But why is this the case and what is the role of its Singapore business in this regard? Also – the firm mentioned that the ‘treat and snacks' category is a US$32 billion business in Asia excluding China, India and Japan. But what is the basis behind the valuation? How does the firm assess its growth trajectory and aim to get customers to expand their average basket size? Meanwhile, Mars Wrigley also embarked on a journey to digitally transform its supply chain in the prior years, but how far has that translated into cost savings for the firm here in Asia? On Under the Radar, The Evening Runway's finance presenter Chua Tian Tian posed these questions to Kalpesh R Parmar, Regional General Manager, Mars Wrigley Asia.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that has the power to build organizational superpowers. My guest is Jason Radisson, Founder and CEO of Movo. Jason is a tech entrepreneur on a mission. He inherited his single mother's work ethic as he worked various blue-collar jobs to fund his education. He started his career at McKinsey & Company. He then became an entrepreneur and joined the early days of Uber, where he launched and grew cities in the western US as a Regional General Manager. Fast forward to today, and Jason has built multiple tech unicorns, including rideshare giant 99. His latest venture, Sh1ft helps remove friction from employment across frontline labor industries such as manufacturing and healthcare. He is passionate about using technology to empower and uplift the frontline workforce, which he believes is the backbone of the economy and society. That became the trigger to found Movo in early 2019 to address the challenges and opportunities of this segment, which is often overlooked and underserved by traditional HR solutions. Their mission: To improve the gig economy by making it as good for employees as it has been for employers. And this inspired me, and hence I invited Jason to my podcast. We explore what's broken in the way the market has access to talent. Jason puts his finger on the opportunity HRTech vendors have failed to address and shares his vision of how to solve this global problem by taking a fresh approach. He shares his big lessons learned on how and when to scale the business. And last but not least, the tells a story about how they created remarkable differentiation when the market needed it most. Here's one of his quotes We can replace Workday for massive employers. That's what we're gunning for. Just our philosophy towards sharing, It's been almost an afterthought by the HR tech industry to have your workforce talking to each other and sharing with other people. We think people should share, and you should be able to follow people who are in your profession in other countries, and you should be able to have casual mentoring and casual interactions outside of work. And it's kind of the antithesis of where traditionally, HR software has been. During this interview, you will learn four things: How you can gain instant differentiation by creating the antithesis of the accepted traditional approach That augmenting your tech with human touch can mean your breakthrough How adding cross-company community-building components to connect peers can become the stickiness factor your solution has been waiting for. How to deal with advice from investors - especially when it's extremely tempting. Recently, South African Muslim women wearing the hijab have complained about unfair treatment by OR Tambo Airport security members, with more than 300 persons related their experiences. Besides media reports detailing the grievances of aggrieved individuals, social media is buzzing with posts describing humiliating searches based on targeted profiling. These reports, which include complaints of full body searches and the request to remove the headscarf, have sparked outrage and fuelled the perception of unfair harassment experienced by Muslim travellers. It has prompted the question: "Is it fair to claim that OR Tambo International Airport (ORT) in Johannesburg is attaining notoriety as South Africa's leading institution where Islamophobia is rampant?" It also prompted the National Freedom Party (NFP) to condemn the reports swiftly and saw them call for an urgent investigation into ORT's security policy. The United Ulema Council of South Africa and the Muslim Judicial Council have met with representatives from ACSA to discuss the issues. Today Radio Islam International held a panel discussion with Airports Company of South Africa's Group Executive: Enterprise Security and Compliance, General Mzwandile Petros and Jabulani Khambule, Regional General Manager for ACSA, to provide clarity on the issues raised.
Hospitality Leaders - Interviews with hotel, event, and food service experts
On this episode, I'm revisiting the entertainment venue Howl at the Moon, this time by way of a conversation with Derek Langford, Regional General Manager. Derek got his start at a small restaurant in his hometown of Kansas City. The transferable skills he learned there allowed him to work his way into the city's bar scene. It was here that he met the owners of Howl at the Moon, and it's this organization that has provided the bulk of Derek's two decades of hospitality work. Derek attributes the success of Howl at the Moon to its ability to differentiate itself from industry competitors. To accomplish this, Derek and his team decided that depth was better than breadth. Performing extraordinarily well in a particular niche was preferable to trying to appeal to everyone's tastes. This philosophy proved lucrative, and Derek continues to cater his approach to evolve with the needs of his very particular market. - Howl at the Moon - https://www.howlatthemoon.com/ - Howl at the Moon - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/howlatthemoon/ - Howl at the Moon - TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@_howlatthemoon?lang=en - Chris Cano - https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrismcano/ - Upshift - https://www.linkedin.com/company/upsh%C4%B1ft/ #hospitality #Foodservice If you enjoyed today's show, please leave a 5-star review. For much of the pandemic, 'Fortress Australia' isolated itself from the world. Now, after a rapid vaccine rollout, its borders are open. Tourism Australia is prioritising key South East Asian markets and airlines to help drive its recovery. So, this week, Gary and Hannah chat all things travel and tourism Down Under with Brent Anderson, Regional General Manager, South East Asia, of Tourism Australia. From his Singapore base, Brent explains how Australia developed its marketing campaigns to find opportunities as this new era of travel commences, and the importance of entertaining digital engagement. Rebuilding airline connectivity and capacity will be a challenge, and mass travel will take time to recover - but Tourism Australia has clearly set out its priority markets and segments. Brent explains why Western Australia's reopening on 3 March is vital for the South East Asian VFR market, and hopes for an upswing of self-drive "pick your own adventure" trips. Plus, which are Australia's "Rising Star" inbound markets, and how will it cope with the absence of Chinese visitors? And when and where will Australian outbound travellers be heading this year?

So there is really no excuse – I'm determined to help you! I want you to feel empowered, nail your next job, and have the career you want. Episode Show Notes With ongoing lockdowns and health concerns, the trend of working from home seems to be here to stay. And with that, many professionals in Australia, and indeed all around the world, are thinking of moving away from big cities, to the countryside. But are we over-romanticizing the prospect of moving, or is it a possibility that we can now seriously consider? In this episode of The Job Hunting Podcast, I interviewed Liz Ritchie, the CEO of the Regional Australia Institute. For almost 20 years, Liz has worked across the corporate, government, and not-for-profit sectors, and we crossed paths when we both worked at Australia's renowned think tank CEDA (The Committee for Economic Development of Australia). Liz is a change agent, a marketer, and a great researcher, so I'm not at all surprised with the high quality reports the Regional Australia Institute is producing this year, which is aligned with Australians' sentiment: Should we be moving back to the country? If we are working remotely, why are we living in big cities, if we could be down at the coast, or in the mountains? Many of my friends are asking themselves that, and in social media, I see this trend is global. Marketing and innovation guru Tom Goodwin poked fun of the notion of moving away from New York on Twitter back in March, only to find himself buying a piece of land in an idyllic location in Georgia in July. Liz is an extremely passionate advocate for regional Australia, and I couldn't think of a better guest to discuss this important topic for job hunters and those who are planning the next steps in their career. Especially towards the end of our chat, we discuss many interesting statistics that I think will come to you as a surprise. Prior to joining the RAI, Liz was the Regional General Manager for Westpac Commercial Bank, the State Director for CEDA, in Western Australia, and held a range of leadership roles with CEDA since 2008. In October 2018, Liz was appointed by The Hon David Littleproud MP, then Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, as a non-government independent member of the Indonesian – Australia partnership on Food Security in the Red Meat and Cattle Sector (Partnership). She is also the founding Director of the Australian Gender Equality Council (AGEC) and remains a National Ambassador.
