“If we don't attack the heart of the issue - the fear, guilt, and shame in our lives that cause us to buy what we don't really need - we are going to use that clutter to build our own prisons and keep us from connecting with others.” ~ Kathi Lipp Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life: Travel Edition! I'm so glad you're here. I'm excited to bring you some of our earliest episodes this November and December—stories that delve into beginnings, endings, and everything in-between. Every Friday, we'll revisit these "from the vault" episodes and reflect on the moments that truly shape our journeys. So, let's embrace the twists and turns of life's transitions together, each one bringing us closer to where we're meant to be. Your Clutter is a Teacher with Star Hansen was originally released on August 24, 2021 Guest Introduction: I'm Cindy MacMillan and welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life. You're listening to episode 73. This podcast is for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. Each week I interview coaches and spiritual explorers about beginnings, endings + the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. If this is your first time joining me, I'm especially glad you're here. I often say this podcast that has followed the breadcrumbs of my own interests and healing journey. Today's interview is part of a self-care series called Life in Full Bloom: Living From the Inside Out and I am delighted to introduce my guest today, Star Hansen. Star Hansen is a Certified Professional Organizer and Clutter Whisperer who helps people use their clutter to overcome blocks in their lives. Her unique approach has been featured on HGTV, OWN, TLC, Style, A&E, and TEDx. Here's a glimpse of our conversation: Hi, Star. Thanks so much for joining me today. 2:00 I'm in the middle of developing a class right now called The Meaning of Stuff that's launching in September. It's so incredible, because my whole career, I've been able to track what the clutter means, like what the symbolism of people's where you have your clutter and what your clutter is, tells me a whole story about your life. 3:33 You know, it's funny because when you think about it, it's disorder, it's untidy, clutter is it's a crowd, it's a mess. And yet, and yet something can look like a mess to one person and feel like home to someone else. So, it's subjective. 5:11 I was on the phone with a client for two hours today, discerning the symbolism of their storage areas, and how it's not just, it's not cut and dry. It's like an onion, there's, you know, you're not a simple being, we're complex beings as humans, and we have lots of, you know, emotions and, you know, journeys tied in. 16:56 Or maybe you make a sign that says creative party in place. And you know, create a party in progress and you hang it on the wall. And you say you can come in. But this is a laboratory of creativity, and you don't mess with my creative Juju. Like you just claim that you set that intention. That's like yeah, that's not welcome here because we're in the middle of something. 18:29 So the interesting thing about clutter is that it is rarely one sided. So, the client I was talking to today, her clutter was inviting her to step into her purpose to really choose to step into her purpose. At the same time, that clutter was inviting her to punish herself. So, it was doing both. 28:21 So keeping an entire house of stuff doesn't serve us because the more we keep the less we see. And what I've done for the people that I love dearly who've passed away is I'll create a box or two of items from them that mean the most to me. So, journals, clothes, things that smell like them, like I had my grandpa's shirt in a Ziplock bag for years before the smell went away. But what you want to do is create a box or somewhere that you can go and revisit that loved one. 37:23 Thank you so much, Cindy, this was such a treat. And thank you to everyone for listening. It's really wonderful to connect energetically with you all. You can find Star Hansen at: Website Instagram Facebook YouTube Thanks for listening! Meet Alan Cohen Alan Cohen, M.A., is the author of 30 popular inspirational books, including the best-selling A Course in Miracles Made Easy, the award-winning A Deep Breath of Life, and the classic Are You as Happy as Your Dog? He is a contributing writer for the New York Times #1 bestselling series Chicken Soup for the Soul, and his books have been translated into 32 foreign languages. His work has been featured on Oprah.com, in USA Today, The Washington Post, and 101 Top Experts. He is a featured presenter in the award-winning documentary Finding Joe, illuminating the teachings of renowned mythologist Joseph Campbell. A Course In Miracles Made Easy (or Easier) Alan's book A Course In Miracles Made Easy was one of the more powerful books I've read in that he explains the deep meaning and lessons of the course. In this interview, we got to the heart of why this channeled work has transformed millions of lives. Because so many wise words were shared in this conversation, I will share my favorites with you below. A suggestion is to start with A Course In Miracles workbook and take it one page (and day) at a time. Favorite takeaways: There is only one lesson, and that is that everything is a choice between love and fear. Ask yourself, then, what would the voice of love say here? A miracle is a shift in perspective. Even a little willingness can start a miracle. The spirit within me loves to hear the truth about itself. We are meant to be happy and are always worthy. We live in a world of illusion. The world we live in is a construct of false ideals, and I'm affected only by my thoughts. The power of love is the healing force in the Universe. When you feel stuck or in fear, ask: "Please help me see this differently!" Anger is fear under pressure. All negative emotions (jealousy, depression, despair, anger, etc.) are connected to fear. To get to the root level, ask yourself, "What's under the anger?" Fear is never justified in any form. Fear is not real. When afraid, you are responding to some illusion. If I trust, fear can't survive. Trust is the bedrock and our greatest teacher. And lastly, I loved this one as well --- "Fear knocked at the door, faith answered and no one answered." The Spirit and The Ego May you remember to decipher your spirit vs ego voice. Do this by asking yourself: What does the voice of fear/ego say? What does the voice of love say? Notice which feels better, and you will soon see how powerful the voice of love is. There is nothing you can do not to be loved by God. You are perfect, divine and always loved. Meet Sonia Choquette Sonia Choquette is a NY Times bestselling author and international speaker, widely regarded as today's preeminent leader on the subject of intuition. Reawakening humanity's sixth sense is Sonia's mission, passion, and gift. Rising up from her family's challenging circumstances, she began offering intuitive readings to adults at the age of 12 and started her training with two master teachers in metaphysical arts and spiritual law. Since then, Sonia has traveled the globe for over four decades, presented on the world's biggest stages, and collaborated with leading spiritual teachers and media platforms to help millions reconnect with their innate intuitive intelligence. Sonia's approach to teaching intuition is one-of-a-kind. Instead of drawing from rigid scientific or spiritual dogma, she empowers her students to feel and listen to their own inner voices - and experience self-driven transformation through trust and reverence of the higher self. Sonia grew up with the rare gift of being taught to trust her intuition and where the 6th sense was considered the 1st sense to pay attention to. Sonia's mother was a Romanian refugee who lost her hearing but had her life saved by her own inner voice. Sonia started teaching about how to access your intuition by age 15 and shares in this interview tools, tips, and ways to learn how to listen to your intuition so that you can live your best life! Your Intuition Is A Super Power Take this in, my friend. Intuition literally means 'inner teacher'. We are all born with intuition and an inner teacher. Learning to listen to your intuition and treat it like your own personalized inner compass will change your life (and for some, it can literally save your life as well). To develop your intuition, you have to get out of your head and accept that your heart is an intelligent organ. We've talked about this before in my interviews with Dr. Debbie Rozman and Dr. Rollin McCrady from HeartMath. Our heart is 5,000 stronger than our other senses. Connecting to your heart intelligence and deeper inner wisdom is now scientifically proven and means what you've been told --- follow your heart. As Einstein said, the human spirit is the main gift, the mind is the servant. How To Tell If It's Your Intuition Sonia shared some easy ways to tell if it's your intuition or your mind. For starters, intuition is a feeling, not a lot of words. You'll notice that your intuition leaves your body and energy feeling more open, whereas if it's your intellect, you'll feel more constricted and contracted. Intuition will have a 'ringing true' quality and will resonate with your whole body. A great tool to really check and see is to speak it out loud and see if what you're picking up lands true. If it does, you'll feel it in your body and heart. Try This Game At Home To align your ego and spirit, Sonia shared a fun game that will reframe the way you see both your ego and your unruly mind so that you can have a more harmonious relationship within yourself. Think of your ego as a friendly barking dog that is a friend to your Spirit (the part of you that knows who you really are). Give a name to the dog and to your Spirit -- for example Sonia's dog is Feefee and her Spirit is named Bright Light. Talk to both parts of you in a playful and fun way to reframe the way you view how you interact with your ego and Spirit. This can alleviate the seriousness and frustration that is often present when we start looking at parts of ourselves we want to shift and change. Try it and let me know what you've named your dog and Spirit in the You-est You Facebook community. My Favorite Takeaways: Trust your vibes! The missing piece for most of us is to fully trust our intuition. When your intuition leads and your ego follows, you will have a magical life. Intuition is the communication of your divine most authentic self (what we call your 'You-est You'). When you listen to your intuition, your cells and body relax fully. Your body is a truth serum. (enough said) Your intuition isn't about finding the lost keys, it's about finding the lost sense of yourself. My hope and prayers are that this conversation reminds you that you are born with an intuition superpower that is here to guide you and that you don't need anyone else to validate you, or your inner wisdom. You're here not to just survive, but to grow, create, adapt, learn and enjoy your life. Keep focusing on trusting and attending to your intuition and watch how life becomes magical. From my me-est me, may you always remember to "trust your vibe", as Sonia says. I highly recommend any of her 30 books, including her newest book, "Trust Your Vibe". If you are ready for greater support to overcome self-doubt and stop your own internal 'not enough' voice so you can step into your genius and design your best life, connect with Julie to see if she is the right fit to coach and mentor you.
