They would rob tourists in the French Quarter at gunpoint. ‘Most of the time, the victims did not resist. Except one. Antonio shot him, and he died.' His gang members ran, then testified against them to save themselves. Antonio James was sentenced to death. He was on death row for fourteen years.“Before he died, he became a Christian. He used his time on death row to teach others how to read so that they too could read the Bible. He taught Bible studies and cared about other men facing death.“In the death chamber he asked forgiveness from the victim's family and told them he was sorry for what he had done. The warden of Angola prison, Burl Cain, also a believer in Jesus, took the hand of Antonio James and said, ‘Antonio, the chariot is here; get ready for the ride. Something was said, or thought to have been said, that irritated the wife, whom Tanniehill quickly took outside. Then he killed a man. The man was a Pentecostal preacher. Serving a life sentence in Angola, Tanniehill was enslaved to the moonshine alcohol made by the prisoners, when one night he cried to God for redemption. That was 1963, and over the years he has come to be known as there Bishop of Angola. Faithfully trusting Christ through persecution from other prisoners, blessing those who persecute him, he now counsels other prisoners and preaches on Sundays and throughout the week. The consequences of this man's actions cost him freedom, cost him his marriage, and cost him his relationship with his child. But in person he has proclaimed the gospel and has pointed countless men to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.” -J. He answered that he studied the authentic bills so thoroughly that he couldn't help but recognize the fakes.Questions to consider:Do you know the gospel well enough? What is the gospel? Are you prepared to die rather than obey a gospel contrary to scripture?Intro notes (Nicky Gumbel commentary on Revelation 13)Revelation 13:1b–18The first ‘beast' (v.1b) appears to be a persecuting power. This chapter contains a description of human government at its worst – a demonic power. It needs to be read alongside Romans 13, in which human government is seen at its best – a godly authority. All human government is a mixture of Revelation 13 and Romans 13. Some governments are more like Romans 13, and some more like the description here. Do not be surprised, therefore, by governments making anti-Christian laws and even persecuting the church.Perhaps the ‘seven heads' (Revelation 13:1b) represent the seven hills on which Rome was built (see 17:9). The prophet Daniel saw beasts that look like the leopard, the bear and the lion, representing three successive world powers (Daniel 7:3). Here they are all rolled into one (Revelation 13:2).‘The fatal wound' that ‘has been healed' (v.3) may refer to Nero (notorious for his persecution of Christians), who attempted suicide in AD 68 and was believed to have survived or come alive again (according to legend). This could be seen as a parody of the death and resurrection of Jesus. The beast attacks God's people for forty-two months or three and a half years (this is typically the period that represents the time between the first and second coming of Jesus – that is, the age of the church). The beast persecutes the church. He makes ‘war against the saints' (v.7). He has a large following. The only ones who do not follow him are all those whose names are written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb, who was slain from the creation of the world (v.8b).The second beast is a pseudo-Christ figure. He performs ‘great and miraculous signs' (v.13). He is a deceiver. He forces everyone to have his mark on their right hands or on their foreheads (v.16). His number is 666 (v.18).The number 666 at one level may again represent Nero, since the Hebrew letters for ‘Nero Caesar' when converted into numbers total 666. On another level, numbers in Revelation are normally symbolic. Six is the number of imperfection (since seven is the number of perfection). 666 is therefore the number of triple imperfection, or complete sinfulness.‘This calls for wisdom' (v.18a). Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light and his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness (see 2 Corinthians 11:13–14). The first beast has a ‘mouth like that of a lion' (Revelation 13:2). The second beast has two horns ‘like a lamb' (v.11). It is as if they are trying to appear to look like Jesus (who is the Lion and the Lamb, see Revelation 5:5–6).Later, we will read of a third beast – Babylon (see Revelation 14:8 and chapters 17–18). The three beasts together seem to masquerade as a diabolical parody of the Trinity. They seem great and deceive many people. We need wisdom to discern the good from the evil.Thank God that by his hand he has written your name in the Lamb's book of life.Outline:I. The False Prophet and his work. (13:11-12)A. What he's like.B. What he does.Deceives.Forces to worship first beast.II. Signs that deceive and produce idolatry. (13:13-15)A. The first beast is about a one-world government.B. The second beast is about a one-world religion.C. We must be able to see difference between the true and false gospel. 2 kinds of false:UniversalismInclusivismIII. The mark of the beast. (13:16-18)A. The mark is real though we don't know what it will actually be.B. What did the early church think of when they heard Revelation 13?Nero is the Anti-Christ.Biblical interpretation requires that a passage cannot mean today what it did not mean to it's original audience. Conclusion:Last story:God's hand writes your name in the book of lifeWhat an amazing privilege to have God's hand write your name in ‘the book of life' belonging to Jesus (v.8b). In the face of persecution ‘God's holy people passionately and faithfully stand their ground' (v.10b, MSG). —Nicky GumbelMain commentary help:Exalting Jesus in Revelation by Daniel AkinRevelation by Jim HamiltonRevelation by Paige Patterson, New American Commentary seriesBreaking the Code by Bruce MetzgerSeven Seals by Matt Chandler, 2021 sermonESV Global Study BibleBible in One Year by Nicky GumbelBible Knowledge CommentaryThe Book of Revelation, NICNT, Robert MounceThe Outline Bible, WilmingtonBible in One Year reading plan, Nicky GumbelReplyForward

[Simplify & Enjoy] How to Diversify Your Income

Learn how you can protect your family’s finances and open up more opportunities by diversifying your income!  Why You Need to Diversify Your Income Diversifying income is something every family should consider. It can not only give you a bigger safety net, but it does give you some more options no matter what stage you are in your financial journey.  Here are a few scenarios where diversifying and increasing your income can be helpful. We're still not out of the woods when it comes to the financial impact of COVID. In April, 9.4 million people reported that they were unable to work because their employer either close or lost business due to this pandemic. As you can probably guess the more income you get, the higher your chances of saving. In 2019, the median bank account balance for American households was 5,300. What's interesting is when you break it down by income, how drastically that changes. For a family that's in the 40 to 59 percentile of income, the median savings was 4,400. You moved to the next bracket, 60 to 79%. You're looking at 10,000. The next one 20,000 and then finally 69,000. Having income to take care of essentials means you can then take that so-called extra income and put it towards financial goals, including savings. Finally, if your family is on the financial independence path. Then increasing your savings rate can speed things up for you when you'll hit your FII number. For example, if your savings rate is 15% then you have 43 working years until you retire. If you bump that up to 30%, then that drops down to 28. You move up to 45% and it becomes 19 years. You're literally buying back your time when you're increasing your savings rate. So hopefully it’s clear why you need to diversify your income. The question is now about finding the right ones for your family.  Side hustles are a popular recommendation, especially online, but they're not your only option. Which is why I’m so happy to have Michelle Jackson on today. She’s an author, podcaster, and entrepreneur.   Not only has she developed these business and income streams, but she’s found a bit of balance with juggling them.  In this episode, we get into: different types of income you can earn Pros and the cons of them how to decide which income path is right for you Let’s get started! How to Write Emails to Teachers with these 5 Strategies

The CEO Teacher Podcast

Or How to write Emails for TpT Sales Without selling Oh hey there, teach! On today’s show I’m going to share with you how we -- that is, we at Team Kayse -- write emails to teachers (and I don’t mean your kid’s teachers either, but instead I mean those teachers that might become your customers). Most of all, I am going to share with you the secrets behind how we grow our email lists by the THOUSANDS each month and how we use those emails to make TpT sales without selling. Sales on TpT are, of course, very important. But before you get too caught up selling to other TpT teachers, let’s look at a quote from one of my favorite books in order to reframe your mindsets for long-term success:   "When we lead with a finite mindset in an infinite game, it leads to all kinds of problems, the most common of which includes the decline of trust, cooperation, and innovation. Leading with an infinite mindset in an infinite game, in contrast, really does move us in a better direction." - Simon Sinek For those of you who have been with me for a while, you know that I love a good book. And in The Infinite Game, Simon Senek asks us to shift our mindset from "I" to "we," to shift from short-term to the long-term thinking, and to shift from a TpT sale to adding value (okay, admittedly, that last one is mine… :)). In other words, it's real easy to say, "Man, I didn't make as many sales on TpT as I did last year at this time," or "I've only been able to create five products so far.” It’s more difficult to say: What am I doing now to support the life that I want to live? Who am I serving and how can I serve them better? And instead of being reactive, how can I take the data and be proactive? Take your TpT Sales to a New level On todays show, you’re going to get five actionable steps to start writing emails to your TpT teachers. Best of all, these emails will lead to TpT sales in a more nuanced and authentic approach. In other words, you’ll learn to write emails that lead to sales on TpT without selling.   In this episode, you will learn: Five strategies that I use to write emails to TpT teachers How I’m going to write 15 to 30 podcast episodes in the next three weeks! What you can do to find your writing groove in order to make a TpT sale Why, if you only write one item each week, emails should be it How 56.6% of our blog traffic in the last 90 days has been organic using our 2021 blogging keyword strategy, the same strategy we teach inside of The CEO Teacher School Links Mentioned in this Episode that’ll help you with your TPT Sales For resources and inspiration, kaysemorris.com/books Simon Sinek’s The Infinite Game More about Simon Sinek Donald Miller’s Building a Story Brand More about Donald Miller  kaysemorris.com/quiz The CEO Teachergram Challenge: kaysemorris.com/teachergram CEO Teacher® Resources Worth Their Weight in Gold:  What's your CEO Teacher® Type? Her articles have appeared in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal,The Providence Journal, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The Boston Globe, The Toronto Star, and The Prague Post. Felicia has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College and a combined Master’s degree (Communications & MBA) from Boston University. Why advocacy? Felicia Morton has dedicated her career to bringing people and ideas together to raise awareness for primary immune deficiencies.  When her son, Sebastian, was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD)  in 2012, she found it difficult to find reliable information,  medical professionals, opportunities for patients to connect, especially while her son was in and out of the hospital with infections.  She was determined to use her skills to bring resources together and make it available to others in similar crisis. To that end, Felicia became: Founder and Executive Director of the CGD Association of America (CGDAA), a Sec.501c3 organization, whose mission is to advocate on behalf of patients, carriers, and families in the CGD community by providing clear, accurate, and independent news and information about CGD and advancing CGD research.  Was named as Patient Advocate Liaison for CGD for the Primary Immune Deficiency Treatment Consortium (PIDTC),  funded by the National Institutes of Health, which consists of 43 centers in North America whose shared goal is to improve the outcome of patients with rare, life threatening, inherited disorders of the immune system CGDAA listed below as a resource: https://www.rarediseasesnetwork.org/cms/pidtc/Get-Involved/Patient-Advocacy https://rarediseases.info.nih.gov/diseases/6100/chronic-granulomatous-disease Was named as CGD Patient Organization for the National Institutes of Health National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences - GARD Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center CGDAA listed below as a resource Listed with NORD, National Organization of Rare Disorders CGDAA affiliated organizations: Primary Immune Deficiency Consortium https://www.rarediseasesnetwork.org/cms/pidtc/ Contact: Dr. Jennifer Puck UCSF Dept of Pediatrics Allergy Immunology and, and Blood and Marrow Transplant  NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders) Contact: Debbie Drell, Allie Crafton, Ashanthi DeSilva https://rarediseases.org/organizations/the-cgd-association-of-america/ Remember the Girls Contact: Taylor Kane, Executive Director https://www.rememberthegirls.org/ Jeffrey Modell Foundation Contact: Fred & Vicki Modell http://www.info4pi.org/wjmf/breaking-news CGD Society, United Kingdom Contact: Claire Jeffries, Operations Manager https://cgdsociety.org/ Global Genes Felicia Morton Nominated as Global Genes Rare Champion of Hope in 2020: https://globalgenes.org/rare-champion-of-hope-award-nominees/ Immune Deficiency Foundation Contact: John Boyle, President & CEO  Affiliated via PIDTC and RDCRN https://www.rarediseasesnetwork.org/cms/pidtc/Get-Involved/Patient-Advocacy https://www.rarediseasesnetwork.org/pags Named to IDF’s PI Connect Governance Committee https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/immune-deficiency-foundation-welcomes-additional-patients-and-caregivers-to-pi-connect-governance-committee-300077065.html Why innovation for the patient population? In addition to providing a central clearinghouse of information for CGD patients, families and physicians, this work is innovative because the CGDAA will soon start an IRB approved Principal Investigator driven study using the database of carriers that Felicia created to study the symptoms and diseases experienced by X linked female CGD carriers.  It has only recently been discovered that X linked carriers, long thought to be asymptomatic, actually experience medical problems linked to their genetic status.  This research may lead to earlier diagnosis of treatable illness. How does candidate inspire others? Felicia inspires, educates and supports in diverse ways including: 1. Be The Match stem cell donor drives.   Stem cell transplant is a curative option for patients with CGD, however, many patients lack a suitable donor because of ethnic diversity.  Felicia's Finnish background mixed with her husband's Costa Rican background made finding a donor for her son difficult.  She organized others to run stem cell donor drives to sign people to the Be the Match Registry to increase the available pool of donors, including drives at the NIH and Georgetown University.  2. Presenter at Conferences Felicia has represented the CGD community by speaking at the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network (RDCRN) conference.  She also spoke at the Rare Disease Awareness Day sponsored by Orchard Therapeutics.  3. E-newsletter and blog Felicia writes the CGDAA  e-blog and newsletter that is sent electronically to the community. 4. CDGAA Mentoring Network of Volunteers Felicia recruits, trains and mentors the volunteers who in turn mentor families. 5. Family support Perhaps, most importantly, Felicia is always directly available to speak with, and reassure, patients, parents, caregivers and carriers affected by the CGD mutation. She inspires and empowers families to take an active role in getting quality care for their family members. What challenges have they overcome? Starting a not-for-profit from scratch with no funding is a daunting challenge.  Felicia completed an arduous and extensive application to the Pro Bono Clearing House Organization in the hope of being chosen and matched with a law firm to help her set up a 501c3 organization.  Her application was deemed 'compelling' and in 2019 she successfully matched, and after many months, succeeded in achieving 501c3 status.  The next challenge was to bring together medical experts to join the team as advisors.  Harry Malech, MD, Chief, Genetic Immunotherapy Section, Deputy Chief, Laboratory of Clinical Immunology and Microbiology, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, National Institute of Health volunteered to lead the CGDAA Advisory Board and recruit other top CGD physician specialists in the US.   Other member of her board include: Kathleen Sullivan, MD, PhD, Chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Jennifer Leiding, MD, Immunologist and Allergy Specialist, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Rebecca Marsh, MD, Clinical Director, Primary Immune Deficiency Program and Co-Director, Diagnostic Immunology Laboratories, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital  Mary Dinauer, MD, PhD, Fred M. Saigh Distinguished Chair of Pediatric Research, Professor of Pediatrics, Washington University School of Medicine - St. Louis Children’s Hospital  Fundraising is another challenge that is ongoing, however, two large pharmaceutical companies have already supported the new organization. Finally, and most personally, Felicia worked as a CGD advocate, which formed the building blocks of the CGDAA, while seeing her son through multiple hospitalizations for infections until he received a successful stem cell transplant done at a large institution in NC.  She is an X-linked carrier of CGD, the daughter herself of an X-linked mother, a wife and owner of her own PR firm.  Miguel Sancho is an Executive Producer currently showrunning and developing projects with Six West Productions. His upcoming project, The Proof Is Out There, premiered on the History Channel in January 2021. His other recent projects include the A&E unscripted series Jail Cam; the History Channel special Black Patriots: Heroes of the Revolution; and Lifetime’s Beyond the Headlines: The Watts Family Tragedy. Prior to that he was executive producer on the documentary series The Untold Story hosted by Elizabeth Vargas, a strand of 2-hour specials airing in spring 2019. He worked as showrunner on some of these specials himself, overseeing staffing, budgets, shoots, scripts, and edits; on others he served as a senior supervising consultant. He performed a similar role on the A&E series Cults and Extreme Belief which aired in the summer of 2018. He also works as a consultant for development and scripting for Efran Films on various true crime series.  Prior to his work at A+E Networks, Miguel accumulated more than two decades of experience producing national television news broadcasts, most recently as senior producer for the ABC News program 20/20. He has conceived and managed the production of hundreds of primetime broadcasts, ranging from long-term documentary projects to live breaking news specials. With a background in investigative reporting, he oversaw many of the most legally sensitive projects the network aired during his tenure there. He and his teams have won many of the industry’s top journalism awards, including the Edward R. Murrow, the George Polk, the Sigma Delta Chi, the IRE Award. Most recently, he won a 2017 Emmy for an hour-long documentary special on the Las Vegas massacre, and the Black Patriots project is currently nominated for a 2020 Emmy.  He enjoys the teaching of television journalism as much as the practice of it, and has conducted numerous staff seminars on writing and shooting. He also served on the ABC News committee on Diversity, Growth, and Development. Prior to his time at ABC, Miguel spent eight years as producer at the CBS News magazine 48 Hours, where he developed his skills as cinematic storyteller in the long-form format. During his years in the field he’s covered stories all across the US and abroad, including Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle-East. If you are like many adults, you've experienced issues coping with all that the pandemic has brought upon our lives. But children are also being severely impacted. Even before the pandemic started, unprecedented rates of childhood anxiety and depression existed, with one in five children under the age of eighteen diagnosed with a mental health disorder. More kids are affected by mental illness than asthma, peanut allergies, diabetes, and cancer combined.   Post pandemic, those numbers are expected to climb even higher. If You Want To Stop Dieting Unsuccessfully, You Should: Stop restricting yourself and start viewing nutrition and exercise as a skill Change your mindset and incorporate your favorite foods into your weight loss plan Explore new exercises such as lifting weights to improve your metabolism Create a personalized approach that works for you and your body Health resolutions and diets often bring in a new year, but that is not the best way to improve how you feel. Changing your health outcome starts with what is on your fork, and all it takes is simple and actionable changes.   Nutrition and Fitness as a Skill Rachel Freiman is the CEO of MindStrong Fitness and is passionate about teaching others the skills necessary to ditch diets forever and embrace nutrition and fitness. Rachel is an educator at heart and focuses on both the mental and physical sides to building healthy and sustainable habits.   Why You Need to Break Up with Dieting The truth is, diets are not sustainable. The belief that we haven't lost weight because we haven't found the ‘right’ diet stems from companies trying to sell you things. Rachel believes that the key to long-term health is education and developing the skills to focus less on restriction and more on what makes you feel good.  Changing your mindset and healing your relationship with food will help you realize that the problem isn't you; it is the methods you have been using. Getting out of the ‘all in or all out’ mindset and instead focusing on the pleasure principle will give you the momentum you need to stop playing into the one size fits all diet industry.   Figuring Out Your Personal Macroplan If you want to change your health, you need a personalized approach that is going to work for you and your body. Even if you have the strongest willpower in the world, telling yourself ‘no’ to foods you enjoy will not last.  Labeling foods as good or bad, or working out in ways that don't actually provide the results you are searching for, is doing nothing for your physical or mental health. By approaching nutrition and exercise as a skill, you can develop habits that will serve you much better in the long run. Are you ready to throw out your health resolutions for 2021? Share how you are supporting your body in a way that serves you in the comments section of the episode page.   Quotes: “For me, the pinpoint defining moment was the feedback I was hearing. Because it had nothing to do with what their bodies looked like. I heard things like, ‘I am showing up as a better teacher for my students’, ‘I am showing up as a better spouse, partner, and parent’, because of the way they felt about themselves.” (9:23) “The key to this, the way that we truly make it a sustainable lifestyle, not just another fad diet, it by learning to approach nutrition as a skill. As a way where no food is labeled good or bad, where you can still have those sexy brownies as part of your weight loss plan. It's not a cheat food, it's not a binge food, it's not a weekend-only food, it fits into your weightloss plan.” (13:10) “This is not something that is wrong with us, this is something that is wrong with the industry. There are not enough people educating so that you have the skills to do this for life.” (18:38) “It's these baby steps that build momentum, and that momentum is what leads to habit.” (23:40) “The reason that we struggle with weight loss is not because we haven't tricked our body enough. Its because we haven't learned to fuel it in the right proportions.” (27:47)   In This Episode: Why diets will never be sustainable for any of us (10:40) The role of mindset when healing your relationship with food and nutrition (15:25) What to do if you are working out super hard but the scale isn’t moving (21:52) How to train your metabolism to speed up through nutrition and weight training (25:06) Breaking down the demonization of carbs and why it is misplaced (26:30)   Resources Mentioned: Free Perimenopause and Menopause Relief Summit Becoming MindStrong: The Truth About Health, Fitness, and the Bullsh*t That's Holding You Back by Rachel Freiman MindStrong Fitness Website Follow Rachel on Facebook | Instagram | YouTube   Related Episodes:  Essentially You Episode #208: How Exercise Can Either Boost Your Metabolism or Damage It At Age 40+ With Debra Atkinson   Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative
