The MLB Winter Meetings are underway and the Chicago White Sox need to be busy. The White Sox have been active in the month of December in recent years. The organization has "won the offseason" a few times since 2016 but has produced zero ALCS or World Series appearances from the destinction. Will the Sox try to get creative via the trade or will they make a splash to fill one of their many voids? Michael Conforto's name keeps popping up. Jacob deGrom's new deal with the Texas Rangers should make a White Sox fan blush. The Sox have never spent anywhere near what deGrom got from Texas. Throwing money at problems is not the South Side way. Nickel and dining our way through the off-season is more of the approach we as Sox fans are used to. The Nomar Mazara, Edwin Encarnacion, Ivan Nova type deals is more our speed. The rumor season is also underway. Could the Kansas City Royals really trade Salvy Perez to the Sox and could Lucas Giolito be on his way to Tampa for Brandon Lowe? Tonight, we get way off topic a few times. BUT, we start off with Bryce being able to be Bryce in Philly. Our hearts are warmed by one of our all-time favorite guys in baseball, Charlie Manuel, being able to watch BP again. Bryce Harper thinks the NL East is the best division in baseball and who could disagree? We also touch on whether we think the Mets will actually be good this year and we throw the Nats into the conversation as well. Trevor Bauer gives praises to Phillies' new pitching coach Caleb Cotham as a 'New Age Interpreter'. We'll see if he's right as the season goes on. And we're hoping Spencer Howard has a huge bounce back year but at the very least could be used as a bullpen piece. The Phillies also played their FIRST Spring Training game today against the Detroit Tigers at their stadium in Lakeland, FL and let's just say it was a doozy. Ivan Nova started off slow, but Adam Haseley made a strong case for CF starter with an Oppo Boppo to start the game. Fans booing, fans getting kicked out, and oh yeah, FANS! Which Alex gets heated about when bringing up the numbers allowed in Philly. We end with our 3 favorite ballpark sounds and the Phillies have their first ST home game tomorrow at 1:05PM! Enjoy...and PLAY BALL!

The Tigers signed Ivan Nova, which is cool and all, but like all the moves this offseason, they promise a more watchable brand of baseball but don’t do anything for the organization’s longer term goals. But yeah we’re gonna talk a whole bunch about the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal, and the fallout from the isolated, but stern punishments delivered by MLB on Monday. In the final analysis, pitchers and catchers are the ones needing a technological solution, and some way to surreptitiously convey signs needs to be developed in a hurry. One of the wilder things about the Astros scheme is just how low tech and brazen their signaling system was. Probably other teams who really wanted to could come up with something rather more clever. Somehow the players involved escape punishment, which sucks, and other than the draft picks, Jim Crane and the Astros get to move on like nothing happened. Other than in the court of opinion where their 2017 World Series title will forever be tainted. Man, these are tough times for a baseball fan. MLB has so many credibility problems going on at once. Can we ever just get back to baseball? Not bloody likely. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What if we told you in the offseason that going into the break the Pirates would be 2.5 games out of 1st place? Well we answer that for you, though it may not be as glorious of an answer as it was in 2015.Also, we thank everyone again for their contribution to the NS9 Pirates Charities Backpack Raffle where we collected $2,250 and were able to raffle off 9 backpacks. We also talk about the revamping of our Patreon where you can help support us while getting some pretty cool things in return.Onto more baseball...The Pirates hammered the Brewers & Cubs this past week and have played very well since June and this rough stretch vs teams above .500 (and likely with higher run differentials and Ivan Nova's pitching for them). What does this mean for the club and should they be buyers or sellers if the trade deadline were today?Josh Bell and Felipe Vazquez will be heading to Cleveland to partake in the All Star game, while Josh Bell will also be part of the Home Run Derby. Ryan & DiNardo give their predictions on the event. Francisco Cervelli has announced that he will no longer play catcher in his MLB career. As we all know the person comes before the player (and this is a very wise move for Cervelli's health concerns) what does this mean for the Pirates? Where is Cervelli's place on this team going forward and what does it mean to the current players on the 25 man right now?Are the Wolves of Federal Street back? The bullpen has been pitching better lately, but we aren't certain it's at the level we all expected them to be at. Who has surprisingly been much better lately? Worse? We will tell you what we can likely expect from this unit going forward and if there is any more help on the way.If you feel generous enough, you can check out our Patreon below:www.patreon.com/northshorenineMakes sure to check us out on twitch for NS9LIVE Thursdays at 10PMwww.twitch.tv/northshorenineAlso, check out our website for all of the podcasts, live streams, merchandise, free graphics & phone wallpapers, & more:www.northshorenine.com
