The Midsummer Classic is behind us, and the Tigers players not only didn't look great in the game, but the skid continues for the team. Should fans be worried in Detroit? Also, the drama continues in the WNBA, should the players be getting a bigger piece of the pie? Baseball writer, BBWAA member and host of The Rockies Insider, Patrick Lyons, visits the Jack Vita Show to discuss the first half of the MLB season, the MLB All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby, while looking ahead to the second half of the season. Jack wants to repair and remake the Home Run Derby. Is there a way we could get more star power in the Derby in the future? He and Patrick discuss the All-Star Game's epic "Swing-Off". Jack also asks why home run totals are up league-wide this season. Is it possible that the baseballs may have a little more bounce off the bat this season than last? Patrick and Jack discuss happenings from the All-Star break, as well as the first half of the regular season. Jacob Misiorowski was named an All-Star replacement, despite having only made five career starts. His inclusion in the Midsummer Classic caused a stir, as a handful of Philadelphia Phillies players criticized the decision from Major League Baseball. Patrick and Jack share their thoughts on the decision. The Milwaukee Brewers have been the best team in baseball for the past two months. The club is 33-12 over its last 55 games, dating back to May 26. And now, they're not only tied for the National League Central lead with the Chicago Cubs, but the two teams from the Midwest are tied for the best record in the National League. Patrick and Jack discuss why they each picked the Brewers to win the NL Central, what is clicking for the team, the Brewers' prowess as an organization, and what they expect to happen in this division race. With the MLB trade deadline rapidly approaching, Patrick and Jack attempt to identify this year's sellers. It's shaping up to be a seller's market, and there doesn't appear to be too many high-impact players available. Who do Jack and Patrick think will be available, and what will the market shape up to be? All this, and much more, in a very fun episode of the Jack Vita Show! Check out Patrick's show, The Rockies Insider with Patrick Lyons, on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever podcasts are found!
The Midsummer Classic is over as the Padres head into the second half of the season where the first half has been a mixed bag. Ed Kasputis interviews San Diego YouTube blogger, Ben Fadden from Talking Friars on whether the mixed bag can turn to gold.
The All-Star break gave Pirates fans a lot to chew on — from Oneil Cruz's 513-foot bomb in the Home Run Derby to Paul Skenes dominating the first inning of the Midsummer Classic. Cruz tied for first in the opening round before falling in the semis, while Skenes went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in a perfect debut on the national stage. We also break down the new Home Run Derby swing-off format and whether MLB should expand it beyond the All-Star Game. But the break wasn't just about spectacle — it also marked the beginning of trade season. The first domino has officially fallen, with Adam Frazier being dealt to the Royals in exchange for Triple-A shortstop Cam Devanney. Could this signal more moves to come? We also dive into the Pirates' 2025 MLB Draft haul, headlined by high-upside righty Seth Hernandez at No. 6 overall. We cover key Day 1 picks like Angel Cervantes and Murf Gray, plus some of our favorite Day 2 names. Does this class reflect a shift in draft strategy, and how do these players fit into the system? Finally, we preview the upcoming White Sox series as the Pirates return to action and gear up for what could be a pivotal few weeks before the trade deadline. Every July, the baseball season takes a brief pause to celebrate the titans of the game, while the majority of the players, coaches and staffers around the league enjoy some much-needed time away from the ballpark. But the 2025 MLB All-Star Game was actually a family celebration for the Yankees, as the entire coaching staff, as well as much of the trainers and support staff, got to work on the American League All-Star staff as the defending AL champions. Yankees Magazine deputy editor Jon Schwartz and Yankees chief photographer/senior photography editor Ariele Goldman Hecht were on the ground in Atlanta for the Midsummer Classic, and in this episode, we have selected audio clips from Yankees All-Stars during media day, plus Jon and Arie discuss how they go about covering a massive baseball party that takes so many different forms. BT and Sal are fired up, tearing into the inexplicable snub of Juan Soto from the All-Star Game, especially after his scorching hot June. They can't fathom how one of baseball's biggest stars, with numbers that easily stack up against those selected, could be overlooked, pointing to a flawed player voting system that prioritizes popularity or even harbors resentment over undeniable on-field performance. The duo are ready to boycott the Midsummer Classic, seeing Soto's omission as an egregious injustice that highlights MLB's consistent failure to market its true talent and honor deserving players.
Hello Seattle Mariners fans! John Trupin, Isabelle Minsian and Max Ellingsen are here to gush over the worldwide phenomenon sweeping the nation that is Cal Raleigh: All Star, who will represent the Mariners in the midsummer classic and home run derby. In the halls of history who even compares to Cal anymore? Has Randy found his power stroke? With the All Star break fast approaching and the Mariners demoting Emerson Hancock, how does the rotation shuffle over the next stretch of games? Are these rumors of the Mariners trading for Alex Bregman sanity or 12 dimensional coping? With the draft only weeks away, how are the current prospects shaping up at the mid point of the season? Where do we expect the team to add with a new class of fresh talent? What's the deal with Felnin's dropping prospect stock? After getting swept by the Braves, the Mets are now tied with the Phillies for the division lead, and for the Braves to be taken seriously as threat in the second half, the Braves have to win the remaining three series in June, then they will come back home to face two very beatable teams at home to start the month of July. Randy McMichael and Abe Gordon discuss the great sweep of the Mets, and the need for the Braves to keep winning before the Midsummer Classic at home.
After a scorching start to the 2025 season, CJ Abrams found himself in a tough 17-game slump, batting just .143 with a .430 OPS. As the Nationals opened their series against the Mets, questions swirled: would Abrams let the slump derail his All-Star campaign, or could he bounce back in time to make a run toward his second straight Midsummer Classic — this time in his hometown of Atlanta? Tuesday night offered a promising sign. Abrams went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and a hit-by-pitch — his best performance since mid-May and a clear reminder of what he can bring when he's locked in at the top of the lineup. The turnaround came after a brief break from the lineup and a pregame conversation with manager Davey Martinez focused on one thing: pitch selection. Abrams responded by staying disciplined at the plate and attacking pitches in the strike zone. His teammates and manager praised the performance, noting his ability to impact the game in every scoring sequence. Now, the key to sustaining this form will be limiting chase rates and maintaining his patient, aggressive approach. If he can do that, Abrams could not only carry the Nationals' offense but punch his ticket to the All-Star Game in front of a hometown crowd.

With the Midsummer Classic set to take place in Atlanta at Truist Park on July 15th, today is the day that All-Star Game ballots have dropped—and it's up to the public to make their choices. While some players might be locks to start the game (looking at you, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani), there are a few sports that could see some interesting position battles. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman go down the ballots for the American and National League squads, making their picks for who they think should be voted in as starters. They wonder if Juan Soto can beat out an impressive trio of NL outfielders, why Dave Roberts could be selective with his Los Angeles Dodgers players and whether Rafael Devers even bothers to bring a glove with him to Atlanta. Later on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys examine the weird season that the Atlanta Braves are having—and why it's oddly similar to the Boston Red Sox—before going around the league to discuss all the injury news surrounding the Houston Astros and New York Mets, among other teams.
