The roster cutdown day ended without a deal featuring the Miami Dolphins and Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. The Dolphins decided that Taylor was a bit too expensive — the same is true for a "mystery team" that was reportedly in the mix. Without Taylor, running back Chris Brooks was one of three undrafted free agents to make the team's 53-man roster. Robbie Chosen and Myles Gaskin were cut from the franchise while former first-round pick Noah Igbinoghene was traded to the Dallas Cowboys. It was a busy Tuesday but we have you covered! The Miami Dolphins entered free agency with no running backs under contract but re-signed Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Myles Gaskin, and Salvon Ahmed — last year's entire running back room — to new contracts during the offseason. The Dolphins also added rookie De'Von Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Ignoring a possible Jonathan Taylor trade — who will join Mostert, Wilson, and Achane on Miami's 53-man roster? Ahmed shined with a handful of big runs throughout the preseason but Gaskin showcased a level of consistency any play-caller would like in the backfield. What about the hard-hitting undrafted rookie Chris Brooks? Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). The Miami Dolphins dropped the year's first preseason game to the Atlanta Falcons last week but hope to turn the page against the Houston Texans this weekend. Ahead of Saturday's game, the Dolphins and Texans gathered for two days of joint practices in Houston. Injuries are piling up for the Dolphins — when can we expect to see Kader Kohou and Cam Smith back on the field? Is it possible that Liam Eichenberg has lost his job at left guard with the emergence of Robert Jones and Lester Cotten? The second half of the show is focused on the biggest matchups in Saturday's game, where we should get some clarity on Miami's plan at wide receiver and running back before debating a big question — will Myles Gaskin or Robbie Chosen have a larger impact in 2023? The campaign to sign Dalvin Cook came to a close on Monday. The New York Jets added Dalvin Cook on a one-year $8 million deal to pair with Breece Hall in the backfield — what does that mean for the Miami Dolphins? Miami will lean on Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert throughout the 2023 season, but where does De'Von Achane come into play? How can Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin get into the mix? Lastly, the Dolphins have roughly $13 million in remaining cap space -- how will the team decide to use that money? De'Von Achane played 50 percent of Miami's offensive snaps against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night but fifth-year tailback Myles Gaskin stole the spotlight with 57 rushing yards on seven carries. It's clear that coach Mike McDaniel and Miami's offensive staff is working to carve out a role for Achane in his rookie season. That said, can a successful preseason from Gaskin shake up Miami's plans at the running back position — considering Salvon Ahmed played just five snaps? Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. will carry the workload in Miami's backfield but Gaskin looked like the perfect "flex seal" running back to help the team overcome the injuries that occur while playing a 17-game season. The Miami Dolphins struggled to score in Friday's 19-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. That said, we did get a better idea of what coach Mike McDaniel is looking to find in the 90-man roster. News broke that Cam Smith isn't expected to miss an extended period but may miss the start of the 2023 regular season. Jaylen Waddle and Robbie Chosen are also dealing with injuries but neither are expected to be serious. Miami gave rookie running back De'Von Achane a heavy workload and delivered in the passing game, what will coach McDaniel and the coaching staff expect from the first-year tailback? Myles Gaskin made an impact on limited plays while River Cracraft had a quiet night despite leading the team with 42 snaps played at wide receiver. Defensively, Brandon Pili and Jaylen Twyman made noise in the trenches while a new cornerback made his case with two passes defended in 31 snaps played. The NFL depth charts are pretty set! The rookies have landing spots! We now have a decent idea how the fantasy landscape will look come July! So it's time to put a stake in the ground and make some rankings. On today's podcast we'll tackle the scarcest position: running back. Beyond the first several names, there simply aren't a lot of sure things, and we'll talk about why. We'll also talk some about tight end ranks and why our first inclination is to once again *not* pay to get one of the highly rated ones. Fantasy draft strategy formulations begin now!
