In this episode of the True Love Knots, our guest is Jodi Harris. She is the CEO of fun at Sight & Sound Events. Jodi is one of the top DJs you can find in Las Vegas. She is an award-winning event planner that comes from the broadcasting and television industry in New York. Today, Jodi shares her knowledge about being a DJ, emceeing, how important programming is, and the current trends. She will also share how her company works during events. Standout Quotes: “DJs bring the fun, and we create those magical moments.” [Jodi] “The hardest part of our job is being a high-energy emcee.”[Jodi] “The last private dances are an intimate moment for couples.”[Jodi] “You've got to know how to program and keep the genre together.[Jodi] “If you have Spotify or Apple Music, whatever it is, start putting together a playlist of your favorite songs and then share that with the DJ.” “When the couple completely trusts us, then we're going to have the most amazing wedding on the face of the planet.”[Jodi] “TikTok and pop culture affect what's happening in the world.”[Jodi] Key Takeaways: At an event, the thing that most people remember is the dancing, music, and fun. Therefore, having a DJ is important because they bring entertainment—plus, it is much more affordable. If you are an emcee, you must know how to say things. The current trend in the bridal parties is the last private dances. There are three parts to a wedding reception; first the cocktail hour, second is the dinner hour, and the last is the party mode. You need to know how to program all three and keep the genre together. Sight & Sound created a QR code for people to request their songs anonymously. Many trends nowadays involve uplight room decoration and monograms. Episode Timeline: [0:57] Meet today's guest, “Jodi Harris,” a top DJ in Las Vegas. [2:49] What does a DJ do at an event? [7:02] Why do DJs find emceeing the most challenging? [8:45] What are the current trends happening in the industry? [12:31] How does event programming works? Jodi, together with her sister is the owner of the (best!) diaper rash ointment company, Pinxav- which has been around for 90 years and when Jodi and her sister took over the company they took it to a new level, and as a result are thriving in the baby industry. In her personal life, Jodi was married for 19 years to her husband from which she had two biological children. Jodi now lives with her partner of 6 yrs. and is part of a blended family. Their kids are ages 14, 15, 16 and 19. In our talk Jodi discusses the challenges of coming into her own, long after having her children. We talk about inner strength and seemingly impossible obstacles that really do make us and our children stronger.

Tandem Nomads - From expat partners to global entrepreneurs! Build a successful business and thrive in your global nomadic

This is a replay of an episode that first aired in January 2016.  However, as we approach the holidays and the start of the new year, the advice and information about practicing mindfulness are still important and relevant today. Jodi Harris is American, grew up in Texas Austin, since then she has been living in Madagascar, Washington DC and today she lives in Japan with her husband and three kids. After graduating with a Masters in Social Work, she started her career as a clinical social worker, providing counseling and psychotherapy to immigrants in the US. When her husband got his first job abroad, she was pretty sure that she would easily be able to convert her skills to the countries where they would be moving to. It turned out to not be that easy, but Jodi took the time to define her strengths and reflect on herself. By the end of her first year in Madagascar, she started her coaching business, called The Expat Activity Book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1500148318?keywords=expat%20activity%20book&qid=1453504529&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1) ” and also a Mindfulness trainer and Personal Leadership Facilitator. Highlights from the episode: How to build the right mindset to be resistant to challenges. How she managed a tough evacuation as her son got very sick. How she built a new identity and stability for herself. “Slow down and savour, you might then see windows that you haven’t noticed before.” Jodi’s habits in relocation: Exercising Meditating Jodi’s Online Resources: Facetime, Facebook, Instagram.
