Episode 500 looks back at the Seattle Seahawks previous championship window to spot what fueled the decline from back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. The conversation centers on three of John Schneider's costly inflection points from 2013 to 2015: the Percy Harvin trade and contract (and the draft opportunity cost), sacrificing trench stability by trading Pro Bowl center Max Unger for Jimmy Graham, and focusing on perimeter talent while missing on investments in the trenches. We revisit draft classes that produced limited impact in 2013 and 2014. And while the 2015 class was highlighted by Tyler Lockett and Frank Clark, they ended up moving on early from an offensive lineman who had a solid career with the Colts. We compare that era's heavy roster turnover to the current team's continuity. And Seattle appears to be avoiding splashy trades, prioritizing the right re-signings, and keeping flexibility to invest in the trenches to extend their window this time around. In the second half of the show, we talk more about the schedule release and the potential timeline for the return of Zach Charbonnet. We also thank our members of the flock who have helped get us to 500 episodes of the years. The "unfairness" of the schedule is the focus of the Do Better segment along with the continued idea of Sam Darnold having to live up to higher expectations. Better at Life honors go out to Dr. Bobby Wagner and an example of how Seahawks fans have an impact on each other outside of football. Support the show Get in the Flock! Super Bowl Champions Rylie Mills and Shemar Jean-Charles joined us live from the draft party at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort to talk about their NFL journeys since draft day. Mills went from a torn ACL at Notre Dame to an unforgettable Super Bowl moment. They discuss handling adversity with support systems and faith, staying ready amid roster turnover, and maintaining a constant compete mentality regardless of starting status. The conversation highlights lessons learned from veteran teammates on the defensive line, the emotion of the Super Bowl, and the technical demands of a Mike Macdonald defense—disguised looks, communication, leverage, and disciplined eyes, especially in loud Lumen Field. RUNDOWN Episode 371 opens with Mitch's Saturday night unraveling after watching Song Sung Blue and realizing the Buddy Holly–impersonating character played by Michael Imperioli is allegedly his celebrity twin — a comparison he loudly rejects as it derails the entire movie. With Hotshot fanning the flames, the show pivots into the annual Prediction Show recap, replaying last year's bold Seahawks takes — including a seven-win forecast and Mike Macdonald job jeopardy — before grading every prediction and crowning a 2025 champion. Mitch revisits last year's Prediction Show, replaying Dave Grosby, Jason Puckett, and Danny O'Neil's confident forecasts for 2025 — from Russell Wilson's salary and Geno Smith's future to Mike Macdonald's job security and a Seahawks Super Bowl run no one predicted. The segment tracks hits, misses, and wildly wrong calls, including gloomy seven-win projections and John Schneider pink slips that never came. With halftime scoring tallied and bragging rights on the line, the stage is set for Episode 372's official crowning of the 2025 Prediction Champion. The second half of the 2025 Prediction Show grading delivers more swings and misses as Mitch revisits bold calls from Dave Grosby, Jason Puckett, and Danny O'Neil on Julio Rodríguez, Cal Raleigh's contract, Paul Skenes, Shohei Ohtani, Tiger Woods, NBA expansion, and Sam Darnold's future. From Oklahoma City's title run to Pete Carroll playoff dreams and wild card chaos involving Jeff Bezos and the Kraken, the predictions range from razor-close to wildly off base. Mitch and Professor Slick bask in the lingering glow of the Seahawks' Super Bowl championship before veering into breaking "news" that Mitch left his iconic bell in Santa Clara — sparking a hilarious Rocky-inspired replacement plan involving Bunco night. The conversation shifts to spring training, where Slick sounds early alarms about the Mariners' pitching depth and offensive ceiling, while Mitch pushes back with optimism centered on Bryce Miller's return to form. The Seattle Seahawks are now two-time Super Bowl Champions and it still feels surreal. We're continuing the celebration with a full walkthrough of the win over New England and a preview of some of the major offseason topics. Seattle set the tone early, flipped field position through elite special teams, and leaned on a dominant defense that consistently harassed Drake Maye. Kenneth Walker kicked off his campaign for MVP early and the offensive line established their physicality on the first play of the game. Some outstanding plays by the Patriots defense kept Seattle out of the end zone in the first half, but Jason Myers was still able to help build a two-score cushion going into the half. The defense continued to overwhelm New England in the third quarter and held them scoreless. The contributions throughout the game included sacks by Devon Witherspoon, Byron Murphy, Derick Hall and rookie Rylie Mills. As Maye continued to get rattled, it led to key turnovers. Julian Love called his own interception as we saw in the mid'd up version of the Super Bowl. Byron Murphy recovered a fumble that led to the Seahawks only offensive touchdown by AJ Barner, and a Witherspoon pressure gave Uchenna Nwosu a score to match the Seahawks offensive touchdown output. We tackle the debate around Sam Darnold's performance—praised for poise against pressure and also criticized for a missed end-zone throw and a completion percentage that was among his lowest of the season. Offseason questions emerge along the way. How does Seattle sustain a title run? How should they handle some key free agents like Josh Jobe and Tariq Woolen? Do they need to approaches their big-money extensions for JSN and Witherspoon before making some of the more difficult decisions. Coaching and organizational themes surface too, from Mike McDonald's game planning and halftime adjustments to the team's continuity of culture. The episode closes with shout-outs to our members of the flock, listener emails, parade moments, and a nod to Jody Allen as the steady hand atop a championship organization.
