Joshua Allen was a drugged up, tough and angry man when Leighton first met him, 20 years ago. Ironically Leighton was his criminal lawyer. In a twist of fate, today, Josh is Leighton's prayer buddy. If you're a Christian or not, you'll be inspired by this unlikely bond. Proof that the Lord can take the most broken and lost and turn them around. Joshua has created a men's weekend event called 'Man Camp' in Alberta, June 7-9. More info here: https://mooselakepc.ca/man/

Allen stresses that we need to get the 'human' back in human resources, listen to higher ed employees' needs, and encourage job seekers to apply for jobs that they have the skills for, even if they do not match the 'preferred' degree requirements. Worker misclassification has significant consequences. Knowing the rules for proper classification of workers is essential in the modern work place. Worker misclassification carries litigation risk and exposure to liquidated damages. The DOL and NLRB have joined forces to investigate independent contractor misclassification and the United States Department of Labor has substantially increased enforcement action and penalties. States throughout the country have enacted robust legislation to ferret out misclassification and to empower agencies to penalize non-compliance with fines and stop work orders. This podcast will review “hot spots” in independent contract litigation. Co-chair of Fisher Phillips Wage and Hour Practice Group, Hagood Tighe, joins fellow co-chair Kathleen M. Caminiti and attorney Joshua Allen to discuss this timely issue.

Nick on the Knicks and his irrelevant 2K My Player career, the Buffalo Sabres are so bad that Producer H Man blew off his volume ranting about them, WWS is somber but we always find silver linings, and the trial of the century: The People of Samuel Darnold vs. Joshua Allen. It's so intense that it made the OJ courtroom look like a Nickelodeon show. We laughed, we cried, and a lawyer who shall remain nameless rage quit. I hope you have A/C, because this gets HEATED!

Our guest is Joshua Allen, a San Diego entrepreneur who we like to call “The Gentleman of Trash”. His business is trash, but he doesn’t do any of the disposal. He’s a middleman. In true Opt Out fashion, this business started as a side hustle. After going to college on a football scholarship, Josh jumped into trash brokering. He's a seasoned real estate investor, and also survived some serious health scares that forced him to emerge with a new plan on work/life balance.
