"They want the secret, and the secret is little and often over the long haul," says Dan John, author of several books on strength and fitness, most recently The Fitness Forge: Master Coaching Tools that Build Real Strength.Today we've got a bit of a curve ball, a backdoor slider, but not really. It's Dan John, who is something of a Swiss army knife of wisdom and kindness and strength and conditioning. He's been a long time strength coach and a master communicator of how to get real-life strong, not influencer, flash-in-the-pan strong, the kind of strong that allows you to fill out your shirt, carry all the groceries in one go, and shovel the driveway without leaving yourself in traction for four days.I've recommended his books many times on this show and in newsletters, and his approach to strength very much rhymes with writing, so that's a big reason why I wanted to invite him on to talk it out. You can visit danjohnuniversity.com to learn more about him and to buy books like the Easy Strength Omnibook, Easy Strength for Fat Loss, his two Armor Building Formula books and his latest The Fitness Forge: Master coaching tools that build real strength. The real crux of easy strength is that it echoes what Percy Cerutty, the Australian running coach, had his runners do in the 1950s, and it's an approachable system that doesn't feel like you've been put through a wood chipper. I spent most of my 30s training like I was a juiced up bodybuilder, hobbling around most days with that deep, bone ache. As I've aged, training in that manner is unfeasible and, well, fucking stupid, plus easy strength is awesome for running, which I'm doing quite a lot these days.So Dan John has been a champion discus thrower coming up on the coattails of the great throwers of the 1970s, guys like Brian Oldfield and Mac Wilkins and Peter Shmock. His lifting approach has always been geared around utility, not aesthetics, by and large. He has written many books like Mass Made Simple, 40 Years with a Whistle, Can You Go, Never Let Go, and several others. Some are only available on the big A, others are available as PDFS through his website. They imbue a sense of possibility, that things are achievable, and that little and often over the long haul is doable and repeatable. If you're into fads, Dan is not for you and he often injects so much personal anecdote and wisdom from a life of nearly 70 years into his work and his podcast, the Dan John University Podcasts where he answers listener questions every week. He's very centering for me. Even hearing him talk through something as simple as his daily pirate map, which is a collection of daily habits, and merely hearing him so often articulate that defrags my computer, if that makes any sense. So in this conversation, we talk about: Parasocial relationships Marvel and Greek heroes The spiderweb effect of his brain Open Culture Little and often over the long haul The secret Being a slave to habits Parallels between lifting and writing Collecting the links Getting small, easy wins out of the way Inspiration is for amateurs Having skin in the game And community making us greatYou'll find dan @coachdanjohn on instagram and of course visit danjohnuniversity.com to see if his books or his inner circle is right for you.
She loved God, served in ministry, and looked like she had it all together—but behind the scenes, Robin Weaver was slowly falling apart. What happens when shame, disappointment, and hidden wounds pull you farther from God than you ever thought possible? And can a life marked by failure truly be restored? In this deeply honest and hope-filled conversation, Robin shares her remarkable journey through ministry wounds, miscarriages, moral failure, restoration, and the overwhelming grace of God that changed everything.Raised in a pastor's home and shaped by both miracles and hardship, Robin opens up about the hidden walls she built around her heart, the pain that slowly pulled her away from God's path, and the moment she cried out for rescue when she could no longer find her way back on her own. What followed was not condemnation—but radical forgiveness, healing, and transformation through the love of Jesus and the support of godly community. You'll hear powerful stories of miraculous healing, God's faithfulness through loss, the restoration of a marriage, and how surrendering fully to the Holy Spirit opened Robin's heart in ways she never thought possible. Her testimony is a moving reminder that no one is too far gone for God's mercy and that obedience to Him always leads to life.In this episode, you'll discover:How unhealed wounds can quietly harden the heartWhy shame loses its power in the presence of graceWhat true restoration looks like after failureHow God uses obedience to lead us into blessingWhy intimacy with Jesus changes everythingIf you've ever struggled with disappointment, hidden pain, regret, or feeling spiritually distant, Robin's story will encourage you to believe that God still pursues, restores, and has a purpose for your life.Click here for SHOW NOTES!Want to help Widows and Orphans? Howard J Ford has stared down a four-ton boulder held up by a single pebble, sat on funeral pots containing the dead while eating lunch, been lifted off his feet by hundreds of people in Burkina Faso, and walked out of a Mississippi murder house that nobody could bring themselves to buy. All in the name of independent filmmaking.Howard J Ford is a British filmmaker, director, and cinematographer whose films include The Dead, Never Let Go, The Ledge, River of Blood, Dark Game, Escape, and Bonekeeper — out now on Prime Video & Apple TV. What starts as Shawn and Marshall swapping personal anecdotes off the clock turns into one of the most no-BS marketing conversations they've had on the show. The topic? Most detailers are marketing to everyone — and that's exactly why they're closing nobody. This episode is a masterclass in customer profiling. Shawn and Marshall break down why knowing who your perfect customer is isn't just a nice-to-have — it's the difference between ads that print money and ads that disappear into the void. They dig into the cultural side of profiling too, getting into the uncomfortable-but-necessary conversation about why understanding your customer's values, lifestyle, and expectations is the only way to speak to them in a language that actually converts. From guerrilla marketing tactics that cost nothing but creativity, to the right way to respond when a lead actually reaches out, to how AI is changing the way smart shops build and use customer data — this episode covers the full arc of modern detailing marketing. The guys also get into the evolution of advertising strategy and why what worked three years ago on social media is quietly killing shops that haven't adapted. The hard truth delivered straight? If you don't know who you're talking to, you're wasting every dollar you spend on ads.⚡ Key TakeawaysProfile First, Advertise Second: Before you spend a dime on ads, you need to know exactly who you're targeting — their lifestyle, their vehicle, their expectations, and what they actually care about.Guerrilla Marketing Still Works: Creativity beats budget. The shops getting noticed aren't always the ones spending the most — they're the ones showing up where their customers already are.Stop Making the Same Ad Mistakes: Vague messaging, no clear call to action, and marketing to the wrong audience are the three killers. Fix one of them this week. How You Respond Matters as Much as the Ad: Getting an inquiry is only half the battle. Your response speed, tone, and follow-up process determines whether that lead becomes a loyal customer or ghosts you.AI as a Profiling Tool: Stop using AI just to write captions. Start using it to analyze your customer base, spot patterns, and build messaging that hits harder.Discipline and Sacrifice Aren't Optional: The episode opens with it and it carries through — the shops winning the marketing game are the ones willing to do the unglamorous work consistently.

Welcome to the inaugural episode of PLAY MORRICONE FOR ME on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. You have no idea how thrilled I am to welcome Jack Criddle and his terrific program into the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO family. I've been an admirer of Jack's show for quite some time; it reminds me a lot of Ley Bricknell's FILMIC program... eclectic, unique, exceptional, and downright entertaining. Similar to Ley, he plays stuff on this show I never would have thought to play. So, strap yourself in because once you hear the words "Play Morricone For Me," you are in for a ride. Please give a warm CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO welcome to Jack in the comments below. - Erik Woods —— SHOW NOTES Producer & host Jack Criddle started broadcasting PLAY MORRICONE FOR ME—a film music radio show with an inclination towards cult and genre scores—in 2017, on the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' station. The program switched to a prerecorded format in 2020, has highlighted everything from spaghetti westerns to cannibal movies to Disney songs, and has featured such guests as John Sayles, Fabio Frizzi, Ben Model and the B-52's Pat Irwin. To celebrate the beginning of PMFM's new home on Cinematic Sound Radio, Jack turns his attention to debut film scoring gigs by some of the world's great composers. These range from the relatively obscure, like Morricone's IL FEDERALE, John Barry's NEVER LET GO, and Quincy Jones's THE BOY IN THE TREE, to the well-known and celebrated, like CITIZEN KANE, CAPTAIN BLOOD, DEEP RED, SHAFT and more. Some hauntings start with a single place. His began with a single name—his own—spoken in the dark by something that wasn't supposed to know it. From a whispered mimicry in a childhood bedroom to a shifting face inside a funeral casket, from an invisible weight sitting on his bed to choirs singing from empty rooms, his life unfolded beneath a shadow he never invited but could never escape. Some moments came as comfort, others as warning, and some as impossible miracles… like the dream of a lost dog that spilled back into waking life. But as he grew older, one truth became impossible to ignore: these weren't isolated encounters. They were stepping stones. Patterns. A presence learning him, following him, calling him. This week on the Anchored by the Sword Podcast, I'm joined by Pamela Good, author of He Never Let Go. Pamela's story is one of deep brokenness, redemption, and hope — a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, God never lets go of our hand.Once a fitness instructor and small business owner, Pamela's life took many unexpected turns — from working in a maximum-security prison to returning to school at age 50. But it was through deep personal pain, family struggles, and years of healing that she learned what it truly means to live in the light of God's love.
Pamela is on a mission to help others overcome Satan's strongholds, self-rejection, and feelings of unworthiness. She shows how faith in Jesus is stronger than those strongholds! He Never Let Go is a powerful and deeply personal memoir by Pamela. Raised by a mother suffering fromparanoid schizophrenia, Pamela endured deep rejection, shame, and isolation from an early age, building walls and seeking validation through perfectionism. In this gripping memoir into the depths of the darkness of mental illness, Pam's remarkable resilience is her only shield. Then she begins to question God, rejecting herself, and desperately hiding her scars from the world. Soon, Pam can no longer outrun the truth. Her darkest night descends as she desperately wanted to tap out of life. Pamela Good From a young age, Pamela faced unimaginable challenges, enduring a childhood marked by neglect, rejection, and emotional pain. Yet, amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged - a relationship with Jesus Christ. As Pamela shares her story of resilience and redemption, she vividly recounts the harrowing moments that shaped her early years, painting a raw and honest portrait of the impact of emotional trauma and a way to heal and move forward.WebsiteBook on Amazon

Ep. 338: Jessica Kiang on Locarno 2025: The Best of the Postwar British Retrospective + Becoming Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw, with your host, Nicolas Rapold. This week I'm reporting from the Locarno film festival, which every year has an outstanding retrospective that's a parallel essential to the premieres of new films. To discuss this year's retro, a deftly curated tribute to British postwar cinema called Great Expectations, I'm joined by a regular guest, critic and programmer Jessica Kiang, who is filing reviews for Variety but also, like me, inhaling swathes of this retrospective. Titles discussed include Obsession (1949, Edward Dmytryk), The Yellow Balloon (1953, J. Lee Thompson), It Always Rains on Sundays (1947, Robert Hamer), Turn the Key Softly (1953, Jack Lee), To Be a Woman (1951, Jill Craigie), The Elephant Never Forgets (1953, John Krish), Train of Events (1949, Sidney Cole, Charles Crichton, Basil Dearden), Passport to Pimlico (1949, Henry Cornelius), The Happiest Days of Your Life (1950, Frank Launder), Time Without Pity (1957, Joseph Losey), and Never Let Go (1960, John Guillermin). Plus, just because: a bonus, brand-new film from Kazakhstan, Becoming (Zhannat Alshanova). Please support the production of this podcast by signing up at: rapold.substack.com Photo by Steve Snodgrass

When a couple buys a 200-year-old farmhouse to start their business, they expect a few challenges—but dealing with spirits wasn't in the business plan. What begins as an exciting renovation project soon turns into a nightmare as full-bodied apparitions, disembodied voices, and poltergeist activity become part of their daily lives. As employees and customers report strange encounters—like a soldier in uniform vanishing into thin air and a child seeing a man in an orange shirt no one else can—the couple realizes their business has become a spiritual train station. With spirits coming and going, some friendly and others dangerous, they learn the hard way that even their home, miles away from the farmhouse, isn't safe from the haunting. There's no escape when the spirits know where you live.

Send us a textIn this episode of the Revelation Within On the Go podcast, Heidi and Christina explore the profound impact of biblical truths, revealing the unbreakable bond we share with God through Jesus' sacrifice. Reflecting on passages from Ephesians and Romans, they celebrate our secure identity in Christ and the peace granted by the Holy Spirit as a seal of promise. Addressing the deep-seated human fear of separation from God, they challenge misconceptions linked to sin and emotional struggles, such as eating disorders. Through personal stories and biblical insights, they highlight the difference between feelings and Scriptural truths, emphasizing the unshakable nature of God's love and grace. You are encouraged to renew your mind with God's promises, create a “God list” to reshape perceptions, and embrace your identity defined by Christ's love for a transformative relationship with God.

Things are a little flipped upside down in this week's Geek Warning. Suvi, Dave, and Brad open the show by discussing their most meaningful bikes. The geeks then turn to pick a favourite side-access bottle cage for when frame space is limited. Of course there's a handful of Ask a Wrench questions, answered. And the show wraps with a round-up of new tech to drop over the past week.A small note: Suvi experienced some audio issues toward the end of the episode, and so, the power of editing has her disappear from the conversation without much warning.Time stamps:5:00 - The bikes we'll never let go and those we wish we hadn't20:30 - Picking one side-access bottle cage32:00 - Ask a wrench: resin versus metallic (sintered) disc brake pads40:00 - Ask a wrench: the importance of matching rear shock hardware sizes45:30 - Ask a wrench: Chainline woes in going old 2x to new 1x gravel51:30 - Tech news on the daily53:20 - Dare's Velocity Ace goes full aero55:30 - Enduro also now offering polymer-infill frame pivot bearings1:00:00 - Enve's new M-series wheels1:01:15 - Daysaver's new mini pumps1:02:30 - Body Rocket on-bike aero sensor arrives
The Savants start off by recapping the week with a few unfortunate passings and we discuss the impact they've had on our lives with their work. Ryan reviews Wild Robot and Never Let Go, starring Halle Berry. Shawns gives an update on The Penguin starring Colin Farrell. Tommy creates a new game called Sequel, Reboot, or Classic, which leaves Ryan and Shawn stumped. It's yet another new-release double feature on the New Flesh podcast, sorry to the Crow-heads who are desperately awaiting the CROW 3 episode. It's on Patreon now but still waiting for a lull for main feed. This week, Brett & Jesse take THE SUBSTANCE and NEVER LET GO of it! Today's podcast highlights coach, author, and educator Dan John. A best-selling author in strength training and fitness, including works such as “Never Let Go”, “Mass Made Simple”, and “Easy Strength Omni-Book.” Dan excels at transforming complex concepts into practical insights and has been a frequent guest on the show. He is one of my most significant influences in how I approach coaching and training. As I move forward in my coaching and training journey, I increasingly appreciate Dan's methods and wisdom in deeper and more impactful ways. If you want to excel at athletics, then you can never, ever, get too far from the actual day-to-day and week-to-week process of training that unfolds over time. On today's episode, Dan talks about navigating the peaks and valleys of performance along with managing daily training and competitive expectations. He also touched on the importance of athlete autonomy, and “figuring it out”, and trends in sports training. Ultimately, Dan speaks to the heart of that consistent, long-haul process by which champions are made, which is the core message of today's episode. Dan is a legend, and it's always fantastic to have him on the show. Today's episode is brought to you by TeamBuildr's Gym Studio and Athletic Development Games. Power curl, I can teach you in seconds." - Dan John (00:20:34) "One of the problems, at least in my world, is that we often think that, you know, if a leads to b and b leads to c, then, well, let's drop b and just go a to c. And it doesn't always happen. Sometimes when you're trying to accomplish something, you still have to stick with all the steps in the system." - Dan John (00:27:46) "George Sheehan in his run, in one of his books, Doctor Sheehan on Running, I think it is. You know, he talks about how athletes live in the pure present. We have no past, we have no future. They're like. And he equates poets, artists, children and the elderly. They all live in the pure present. There is no, there's no yesterday, there's no tomorrow." - Dan John (00:32:57) "Those workouts that are the, you just get in, you do your sets and reps, you walk out the door, you salute yourself for that effort. I actually think those are the ones that make champions." - Dan John 01:00:45 “One of the things a lot of athletes start to do is they turn off. Because if I give you everything, then I'm your wizard, I'm your Gandalf, your Merlin, I'm your Moses, I'm your prophet, I'm the answer to all your questions. But what makes an athlete great is when they go, what made Dick Fosberry great in the high jump? What made him great? Well, he thought for himself to the point that his coach at Oregon State, Frank Morris, did everything he could to stop Fosbury from drinking, from jumping that way. And then later, of course,
