A full complement of 150 swimmers will be getting into the water on Saturday next for the Frances Thornton Memorial Swim. First swam in 2006 and including two virtual swims in 2020 and 21 due to the pandemic, the swim has raised over €1.5 million euro for Cancer Care West and this year they are hoping to raise €100,000 that will help provide professional community-based practical and emotional support services, free of charge, to anyone affected by cancer. The swim covers a distance of approximately 13 km, from Aughinish in Co. Clare to Blackrock Diving Tower in Salthill, Galway. It is named in honour of Frances Thornton, who passed away from cancer in 2008 after a long battle with the disease. Frances was the mother of Kevin Thornton, one of the founders of the swim, and a passionate supporter of Cancer Care West, the charity partner of the event. Ahead of Saturday, John Mulligan spoke to Fiona Thornton, daughter of Frances and to Dave O'Donnell of Cancer Care West about the swim and the fundraising efforts involved.

He began detoxing as soon as he graduated from school, knowing that most people tend to have between five and 30 pounds of feces in their systems, and because he . Once his system was aligned, he started offering the product from Juice Plus. Kevin says he is inspired mostly by his father Sam Thornton. He says he played a big part in his journey in holistic health and personal development. Growing up, he says his father has always been into holistic living so he planted the seed in me. Seeing him at 77 years old and in great health without taking any medication motivates Kevin daily to be his best self, and help others be their best self. This interview was really fun, Sam Schimizzi and Kevin Thornton are great together and they talk about several important issues to the residents of Watkins Glen. The computer crashed right around the end of this show and then it completely froze on a black screen of death. I couldn't get it to do anything so I had to shut it down the bad way and then cross my fingers that it was going to be there when I turned it back on and when I first booted back up, it wasn't there...The feeling of losing such a fun and meaningful conversation is awful but I finally was able to restore and get it back. The final result ends a bit abruptly but it's worth listening to every second if you ask me. We hope to see as many of you as possible Tuesday night at 6:30pm for the Democratic Caucus at 303 N Franklin St. Registered Democrats from the Village can vote, please do.
