Inspired by idols such as John Mayer, Rob Thomas, and John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, Joe's sound is influenced by the alternative rock of the late '90s and early 2000s. Growing up in a music household, Joe has always been awed by the ability to create sounds with instruments. “Music is almost like a portal into another dimension. It takes me to another place where I'm not thinking about anything else but the song.” Haydel moved to Nashville in January of 2020 with nothing but a plan and ambition to fully commit to music. As Joe describes it “for me it's music or bust.”  A year later, Joe inked his first pub deal with Wide Open Music, landed his first outside cut “Even Now” on artist, Chase Bryant, and his own opening slot on Aaron Lewis' Frayed At Both Ends tour. For Joe, no feeling can describe connecting with another person on a musical level. This is just the beginning for Joe, he is excited for what the future holds and cannot wait to share the new music he's been working on very soon.******Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville is streamed live every Sunday night 8pm ET/ 5pm PT on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. How does a founding member of one of the biggest bands of the last few decades create such incredible music, enjoyed by hundreds of millions of people, while living a life that is privately falling apart? And what would make him do the work to start to put all the pieces back together, to produce not just iconic music, but also a grounded, fulfilling life? That's where we're going in today's Best Of conversation with the founding member, frontman and guitarist for iconic band, the Goo Goo Dolls, John Rzeznik. Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, John is a legend in the world of music, with 19 top-ten singles, including mega-hits like Iris (which spent 12 months on the Billboard charts), Name, Black Balloon and countless others. And, like so many who turned to music at a young age as both a way to cope with discord and a form of expression, he's lived a life of extraordinary artistry and contribution, and along with that, a certain amount of darkness and struggle that for many years found him turning to alcohol as a way to get through each day. Until it all fell apart, and he had to make a decision. One he keeps making every day. Now, sober, a devoted dad and husband, he's telling a new story with his life and music, and taking the giant, global community of Goo Goo Doll fans along for the journey. And, as you'll hear, he's headed into the studio to create something that is truly representative not just of this moment in time, but also of how his lens on life, music, and creativity have evolved. You can find John at: Website | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode you'll also love the conversations we had with Joan Osborne about her incredible life in music and activism.Check out our offerings & partners: My New Book Sparked | My New Podcast SPARKEDVisit Our Sponsor Page For a Complete List of Vanity URLs & Discount Codes.Wealthfront: Diversify your investing with an automated portfolio that can help maximize your returns and minimize your taxes. He is a founding member of the pop group The Lovesick and released six albums with them. His new project Tokyo Teens features an interesting blend of 80's inspired synth-driven beats with heavy doses of goth-influenced darkwave and post punk sensibilities. Goo Goo Dolls' John Rzeznik discusses the music that inspired him as a kid (The Cars, Springsteen, Petty, the Kinks) and how it taught him the importance of melody and each song telling its own story. We also talk about Goo Goo Dolls' early days, touring in a van and crashing on couches (he always brought along blank cassettes so he could copy some of his host's music); what it felt like to have a huge mainstream moment that also alienated some of their original fans; and why he's taking his approach to writing and recording back to basics for the new Goo Goo Dolls album, out in 2022. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jennylsq/support

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, John Rzeznik is the founding-member, frontman and guitarist for iconic band, the Goo Goo Dolls. He's a legend in the world of music, with 19 top-ten singles, including mega-hits like Iris (which spent 12-months on the Billboard charts), Name, Black Balloon and countless others. And, like so many who turned to music at a young age as both a way to cope with discord and a form of expression, he’s lived a life of extraordinary artistry and contribution, and along with that, a certain amount of darkness and struggle that for many years found him turning to alcohol as a way to get through each day. Until it all fell apart, and he had to make a decision. One he keeps making every day. Now, sober, a devoted dad and husband, he's telling a new story with his life and music, and taking the giant, global community of Goo Goo Doll fans along for the journey. And, as you’ll hear, he’s headed into the studio to create something that is truly representative not just of this moment in time, but also of how his lens on life, music, and creativity have evolved. You can find John at:Website : https://www.googoodolls.com/Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/johnrzeznikggd/Check out our offerings & partners: Backcountry: The best outdoor gear online for people who love to get outside. As usual, the story is told from the perspective of Joey Fatone's partner Kelly. Continuing to emotionally recover from Kelly's miscarriage, Joey and Kelly bravely carry on. They fly somewhere and get ready for some event while he razzes her about her findiing John Rzeznik from the Goo Goo Dolls attractive. It isn't until halfway through the episode we realize that Joey and Kelly are at the premier of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, that which Joey was in and that which, also, he is the spokesperson for. Also this episode: Joey presents Kelly a necklace, reveals he plans to audition for “Rent,” and then they run into Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates. We drink coffee from 711 with 2 shots of French Vanilla creamer each, with whiskey. Additional topics incidentally discussed in this episode: MeTV FM Radio, repairing crayons, a sale at Record Breakers in Chicago, gesticulating with cigerettes, “She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain,” Count Chocula, Billy Bush on Access Hollywood, Rita Wilson, 1984-era Van Halen, “Blowin' In the Wind,” Blazes on 14th Street, Bhad Bhabie, Axel F without the keybords, IMDB, invasive questions, "E-mail My Heart," SUNNYD.
