European Nights returns as Rog and Rory Smith look ahead to the second legs of the Champions League knockout playoff round. They begin in Lisbon, where alleged racist abuse directed at Vinícius Júnior during Real Madrid's game against Benfica led to a stoppage and sparks a wider conversation about accountability, institutional response, and whether football is doing enough to protect its players. Then it's on to Istanbul, where Galatasaray's emphatic win over Juventus spotlights Turkish spending power and deepens concerns about the broader state of Italian football. Finally, they turn to the Europa Conference League, where Crystal Palace were held to a draw by HŠK Zrinjski Mostar and Oliver Glasner's call for fans to “stay humble” becomes part of the conversation after the first leg. Plus, Rory delivers his latest continental culinary recommendation from Istanbul.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On todays episode, Patrick and Hayden take a look at the Champions League Knockout play-offs. We start in Lisbon, where Benfica kept Real Madrid at arm's length for long stretches before one moment of elite quality decided it. It was low event, tightly controlled, and it raises the same balance questions that still sit over Madrid. Then it's Galatasaray pulling Juventus apart. Weston McKennie leads the line for Juve, while Victor Osimhen does what he always does — finding shots from nowhere and turning messy phases into goals. From there, we head to Norway, where Bodø/Glimt beat Inter Milan by doing far more than riding a big moment. The pressing was coordinated, the blindside runs were constant, and Inter never really found control. This was structural, not random. We also look at Paris Saint-Germain overwhelming AS Monaco, creating chances at an absurd rate, and whether Atlético Madrid are actually controlling games or just surviving stretches against Club Brugge. On this week's episode of The Joy of Football, Martin Tyler and Neil Barnett bring you the shortest podcast we've ever recorded (perhaps), but one absolutely packed with ideas, stories and footballing intrigue. We begin with We Need To Talk About, focusing on a topic close to the hearts of Liverpool fans, as Martin reflects on one of the standout summer signings in the Premier League and how it could shape both Liverpool's season and France's plans heading towards the next World Cup. In Letter From The Gantry, Martin takes us inside one of the most extraordinary nights of European football in recent memory — Champions League Matchday 8, with 18 games played simultaneously across the continent. Commentating on Manchester City vs Galatasaray, Martin explains the unique challenge of calling a game while tracking a live, constantly shifting league table, late goals elsewhere, and qualification places changing by the minute. A night that perfectly captured the chaos, tension and storytelling that defines elite football. Comparisons stays with the Champions League theme, as the guys assess how English clubs have fared compared to the rest of Europe, discuss goalkeepers scoring crucial goals, and weigh up some of the game's most fascinating contrasts — including Arsenal's left-wing options and iconic Welsh players Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale. In Voice of Passion, Neil makes his case against the modern use of substitutes, questioning whether five subs and multiple tactical changes favour the richest clubs and alter the competitive balance of the game. Drawing on recent matches — including Chelsea's dramatic wins — the discussion explores how substitutions are reshaping football tactically and emotionally. A shorter episode than usual, but one filled with insight, debate and behind-the-scenes perspectives. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Jason McGovern, Darren Hart and Luke as a superb professional performance saw us enjoy an excellent win at Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night to book a fourth-place finish in the league phase of the Champions League and guarantee our path straight into the last 16. Needing a victory to confirm a top eight berth, we were dominant from start to finish at Deutsche Bank Park and eventually got the goals we deserved in the second half, Randal Kolo Muani scoring against his former club seconds after the restart before Dominic Solanke – whose penalty beat Frankfurt on this ground in the Europa League quarter-finals last season – secured the win with a clinical finish. The win means we avoid the play-off round and can now look forward to a two-legged last 16 tie in March against one of either Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge or Galatasaray, we debate who we would like to face next and whether it could sway the Club to act in the final days of the transfer window. Blue Moon Podcast - A Manchester City Show

Champions League top eight qualification and the gap to the Premier League leaders down to four points... You'd have to say that's a pretty good week for Manchester City, all told. David Mooney is joined by Joe Butterfield from The City Ramble and Adam Carter from StatCity.co.uk to discuss the wins over Wolves and Galatasaray. That being said, there's a couple of bogey teams up next in the league at a pair of grounds that are, frankly, cursed when City go to visit... So how will that picture look in a couple of weeks? Jack from Rule The Roost joins the show to tell us about Spurs this season so far, plus we'll look ahead to next week's Carabao Cup semifinal second leg with Newcastle. And as the squad continues to evolve, we discuss Oscar Bobb's departure and the options in the team for the final months of the season following some key players returning to fitness to join the two new signings.==========To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon.
