Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Jason McGovern, Darren Hart and Luke as a superb professional performance saw us enjoy an excellent win at Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night to book a fourth-place finish in the league phase of the Champions League and guarantee our path straight into the last 16. Needing a victory to confirm a top eight berth, we were dominant from start to finish at Deutsche Bank Park and eventually got the goals we deserved in the second half, Randal Kolo Muani scoring against his former club seconds after the restart before Dominic Solanke – whose penalty beat Frankfurt on this ground in the Europa League quarter-finals last season – secured the win with a clinical finish. The win means we avoid the play-off round and can now look forward to a two-legged last 16 tie in March against one of either Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge or Galatasaray, we debate who we would like to face next and whether it could sway the Club to act in the final days of the transfer window. Champions League top eight qualification and the gap to the Premier League leaders down to four points... You'd have to say that's a pretty good week for Manchester City, all told. David Mooney is joined by Joe Butterfield from The City Ramble and Adam Carter from StatCity.co.uk to discuss the wins over Wolves and Galatasaray. That being said, there's a couple of bogey teams up next in the league at a pair of grounds that are, frankly, cursed when City go to visit... So how will that picture look in a couple of weeks? Jack from Rule The Roost joins the show to tell us about Spurs this season so far, plus we'll look ahead to next week's Carabao Cup semifinal second leg with Newcastle. And as the squad continues to evolve, we discuss Oscar Bobb's departure and the options in the team for the final months of the season following some key players returning to fitness to join the two new signings.==========To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. Two frustrating and perhaps somewhat concerning defeats on the bounce means the Blue Moon Podcast has hit the panic button! Time to have some fun (or as much is possible this week) by inviting Joey McCune and Mark Mulvanny from the Noisy Neighbours podcast to join David Mooney and City fan Matt Holland to pick through the losses to Manchester United and Bodø/Glimt.It's Wolves and Galatasaray up next for City... There should, hopefully, be some fresher legs on display on Saturday with the return of Antoine Semenyo and the arrival of Marc Guehi, but then a possible problem in the final Champions League group game as Rodri's suspension might leave a gaping hole in the centre.Dave Azzopardi from Talking Wolves gives his thoughts about the Premier League's bottom club (who are somehow more in-form than City in the league in 2026), while we also discuss the 17 players who have scored for and against City at the Etihad Stadium.Plus, what did you think of Sky sealing some fans in a box, who was the last Roman Emperor of the West, and when did you last have a snowball fight?==========To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon.
Olu talks about the Super Eagles' AFCON preparation match against Egypt, which has now been rescheduled. He then dives straight into the standout Nigerian performers of the week. Victor Osimhen grabbed a brilliant brace for Galatasaray in a 3–2 win, Umar Sadiq delivered a goal and assist in the Copa del Rey, Anthony Dennis found the net against Trabzonspor, Raphael Onyedika scored for Club Brugge, and Philip Otele continued his form with another goal for FC Basel. Olu also highlights Christantus Uche's impressive cameo for Crystal Palace, Chiamaka Nnadozie's clean sheet, and Toni Payne's clutch assist that ended Chelsea's unbeaten league run.He then addresses the worrying situation involving Terem Moffi and Jeremie Boga, who were attacked by their own OGC Nice fans and have now gone on sick leave. He also shares thoughts on the World Cup draw, even though Nigeria didn't qualify, before closing with full player reviews and the Nigerians to watch in the upcoming week.(00:00) Intro(01:24) Nigeria vs Egypt Update(02:42) Super Eagles Index: Who's Hot?(08:56) Who's not hot ahead of AFCON?(09:38) Starboy of the week(11:04) Terem Moffi attacked(12:47) Injury News (Nwabali, Akinsanmiro, Ogbu)(14:37) World Cup Draw(20:48) Premier League (Aina, Awoniyi, Bassey, Iwobi, Chukwueze, Onyeka, Arokodare, Uche)(26:39) Championship (Ajayi, Osayi-Samuel)(27:02) Serie A (Lookman, Okoye, Akinsanmiro, Dele-Bashiru, Orban)(28:58) La Liga (Ejuke, Adams, Sadiq)(29:47) Bundesliga (Tella, Boniface, Akpoguma, Torunarigha, Agu)(31:42) Ligue 1 (Moffi, Simon, Awaziem, Ilenikhena, Ojediran)(32:42) Portugal (Sanusi, James)(33:17) Belgium (Onyedika, Sor, Frederick)(34:03) Turkey (Osimhen, Ndidi, Onuachu, Nwakaeme, Dennis)(35:36) Czech Republic (Durosinmi, Ogbu, Moses, Uchenna)(36:38) Greece (Onyemaechi, Dessers)(37:18) Switzerland (Otele)(37:38) PSL (Nwabali)(37:54) Austria (Nwaiwu)(38:26) Ones to watch(39:42) Outro

Brad Friedel played his college ball at UCLA and had a stint at Liverpool before a longer and seriously fruitful one at Blackburn Rovers. He also stopped shots for Aston Villa and for Tottenham Hotspur, where in his final season he ran into a guy named Mauricio Pochettino. The goalkeeper, who was capped 82 times for the U.S. Men's National Team, got a front-row seat to the Argentine's methods when he came in and transformed the club, and his faith has never wavered that Pochettino will deliver now as head coach of the American team.We talked about all that when Friedel joined the show this Thanksgiving week, but we also got into a fascinating early chapter of his career. In 1995, he went off to Istanbul to play for Graeme Souness at Galatasaray. Along the way, he got a true taste of one of the world's most combustible football derbies, Galatasaray against Fenerbahce, the latest edition of which will play out this coming Monday.Friedel talked the derby, his times with Brian Clough and Kevin Keegan, and a bit about life in Istanbul.Get more sharp coverage of the world's game at TheFootballWeekend.com ↗️ Hosted on Acast.
