In this episode I am joined by current PhD student Sam McHaffie who is conducting research sponsored by The FA at Liverpool John Moores University investigating the quantification of energy expenditure within 16 - 19 year old International standard female youth players. We discussed Sams journey to this point in his career and unpicked thoughts on his working environments and the importance of mentorship within your role as an early career nutritionist. We spoke around some of the findings from his research that identified a fear of carbohydrate amongst players, and how this research began to quantify the environment and culture that surrounded nutrition within the pathway; the theme of carbohydrate consumption and body composition analysis were themes that were highlighted as a result. Sam discusses his passion for the development of the female game and it was an absolute pleasure to discuss these topics and more around his own applied experiences. *LIVE Q&A - THURSDAY 4th MAY 7 - 7.45pm INSTAGRAM*Insta - @thepinnpodcastTwitter - @ThePINN_PodLinked In - The PINN PodcastSupport the show

Animal keeper Megan Woodall joins us to talk all about the lion cubs born at Blank Park Zoo on November 14.
She smacks lions in the face to establish dominance. And if they still give her grief, she does it AGAIN! Seriously. So Marv and Fred tread carefully through this interview with Jen Duffy, manager of the Roots and Shoots program for youth with the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada. Jen's art is that of inspiration. She uses her skills as a motivational speaker to teach, illustrate and persuade entire schools to commit to local, regional and international projects with great purpose. Approximately 200,000 students in 140 countries belong to Roots and Shoots youth groups dedicated to improving conditions for people, animals and the environment. And Jen plays a big part in motivating them. These youth have taken advantage of digital technology and communication arts such as graphic design, writing, acting, film making, songwriting, live performances and other creative activities to get us all involved in saving the Earth! Hard up for subject areas for your musical, dramatic or visually artistic talents? How about helping save the world? So remember. If your friends and family think creative activities lack a certain strength or courage, Jen Duffy smacks lions in the face and walks away dominating the pride! So could you!
