Francesca Clapcich was born in Trieste, Italy and now lives in Park City, Utah with her wife (former Olympic and round-the-world sailor, Sally Barkow) and daughter, Harriet.  In our conversation, Francesca explains sailing, what it's like to be out on the ocean with dolphins and other wildlife. Then tells tales of the physical and mental preparations for the 2028 Vendee Globe, kid sports in Italy, building a diverse team, belief in yourself, belonging, and being a mom athlete. Our conversation couldn't have been more full and wonderful.  Francesca has twice represented Italy at the Olympic Games, is a World Champion, European Champion, Italian Sailor of the Year. In 2023, competing with 11th Hour Racing Team, she became the first Italian to win The Ocean Race, the world's longest and toughest team sporting event. Francesca is also the first female Italian to compete in the notoriously challenging Solitaire du Figaro, a solo multi-stage sprint around the coastline of France,. There she was presented with the Fighting Spirit award. After studying nautical construction in high school, Francesca went on to earn a degree in sports science at San Raffaele University in Rome, with a thesis on Olympic Performance. She then joined the Italian Air Force in their elite athlete program, where she served for nine years, finishing as a Senior Airman.  Beyond sailing, Francesca stays active in Park City. She is a qualified ski instructor, a CrossFit and weight-lifting coach, and she volunteers as an Emergency Medical Technician in her community for youth events. Francesca sits on the board of the Park City Task Force, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights in the community, building programs and events to expand the outreach of the organization, creating a safe place and access to support resources, sport and the outdoors for everyone in the region. Whether we're aware of it or not, temptation is all around us at work. It didn't get left at home when we left for work today. As we take God to work with us, we should also be aware that the enemy will be working there too. Starting our day with the Lord in prayer, and putting on the FULL armor of God (Ephesians 6), are some of the best ways to keep the door shut on temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.  And IF you've opened the door to temptation at work, speaking and praying bible verses over it is the way to combat it. Today, will YOU fight temptation at work with the presence of the Lord and His word?

All things are well in WCW on the July 31st, 2000 episode of Nitro. Booker T is the fighting babyface WCW World Champion and Vince Russo is in charge… Okay well maybe not everything is good. The main “highlight” from this show was a throw away segment featuring a “Viagra on a Pole” Match. Billy Kidman is huge, while The Franchise Shane Douglas has problems getting it up in the bedroom. That's literally why the match is happening. They hang Viagra on a pole and whoever gets it, wins. Speaking of gimmick matches, Kevin Nash battles Scott Steiner in a “Straight Jacket” Match. Put your opponent in a straight jacket and you decide when you are tired of beating them up. And as previously mentioned Booker T is the fighting WCW Champion, but Jeff Jarrett hurt his leg badly with a Figure Four. As fighting champion he says he will face Sting for the belt, as he was previously supposed to have the match. Booker T's wife gets hit with a guitar by Jeff Jarrett and has to go to the hospital. Booker returns and has his match with Sting. However, chaos ensues as Double J hangs Booker by his leg and hits it with a guitar. Also, Sting gets burned alive inside a coffin by Vampiro and The Kiss Demon! "Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplain's Journey," a powerful new documentary film co-produced by Paulist Productions, will be in select theaters around the United States on November 8, 2024. In this episode of Deacons Pod, the deacons speak about the film with Paulist Fr. Tom Gibbons, vice president of Paulist Productions and an executive producer of "Fighting Spirit." The film shares the stories of multiple U.S. military chaplains who died while serving. It is framed by the story of Justin Roberts, a former U.S. Army chaplain, as he attends the long-delayed funeral in 2021 of Servant of God Emil Kapaun, a priest and U.S. Army chaplain from Kansas, who died in 1953 as prisoner of war in North Korea. “Fighting Spirit” was co-produced by the U.S. Army Chaplains Corps.
