Sau bộ phim đầu tay “Once upon a bridge in Vietnam“ ( Ngày xưa có một nhịp cầu ở Việt Nam ), từng đoạt giải Phim tài liệu ngắn tại Los Angeles (Mỹ), đạo diễn trẻ mang hai dòng máu Pháp Việt François Bibonne vào tháng 11 vừa qua đã trở lại Việt Nam với dự án phim tiếp theo cũng về sự giao thoa giữa Pháp và Việt Nam, nhưng lần này nói về bóng đá, môn thể thao mà dân Việt Nam rất mê. Đó là bộ phim “The Symphony Wins” ( Bản giao hưởng chiến thắng ).  Trả lời RFI Việt ngữ, đạo diễn Francois Bibonne trước hết giải thích vì sao anh chọn đề tài bóng đá cho bộ phim tài liệu thứ hai của mình: “Tôi đã từng nghe nói về bóng đá Việt Nam, đầu tiên là về đội tuyển bóng đá nữ, mà ngay cả báo chí Pháp cũng đã nói đến khi họ lọt vào vòng chung kết Cúp thế giới. Tiếp đến, ông Philippe Troussier, trước đây là huấn luyện viên đội tuyển bóng đá quốc gia của Nhật Bản, đã được chọn để dẫn dắt đội tuyển nam của Việt Nam. Có rất nhiều yếu tố thúc đẩy tôi tìm hiểu về vai trò của môn bóng đá ở Việt Nam. Tôi muốn tiếp tục khám phá văn hóa Việt Nam, nhưng lần này là không phải là qua âm nhạc, mà là qua bộ môn bóng đá. Đúng là có rất nhiều điều thú vị.Đây quả là môn thể thao được ưa chuộng nhất ở Việt Nam, gây rất nhiều phản ứng cuồng nhiệt. Khắp nơi đều có các đội bóng đá, không chỉ ở thành phố mà ở thôn quê người ta cũng chơi bóng đá. Người dân tộc thiểu số cũng chơi môn này. Tóm lại cả nước chơi bóng đá! Họ còn nắm rất rành về bóng đá quốc tế, hơn cả tôi. Họ theo dõi sát các trận của giải bóng đá Anh Premier League, thuộc tên từng cầu thủ trong đội PSG… Nói chung là dân Việt Nam rất “trung thành” với bóng đá. Tôi cũng thấy là ở có nhiều trường dạy bóng đá và có nhiều cầu thủ từ các nước khác đến đá trong các câu lạc bộ của Việt Nam ở Hà Nội hay ở Sài Gòn,  nhờ vậy trình độ của bóng đá Việt Nam cũng được nâng cao. Tôi thấy Việt Nam là một quốc gia gia rất đoàn kết, một quốc gia còn rất trẻ và có thể nói bóng đá là một trong những cột trụ chính của đất nước. Bộ phim đầu tiên của tôi là nói về âm nhạc với yếu tố căn bản là dàn nhạc, còn lần này chính là đội tuyển bóng đá. Ở Pháp, khi đội tuyển quốc gia thi đấu chúng tôi rất hứng khởi, nhưng ở Việt Nam sự hứng khởi có lẽ lớn hơn nhiều, vì người dân rất ủng hộ đội tuyển quốc gia, ngay cả ở các vùng nông thôn và các vùng sắc tộc thiểu số.” Chính nhờ đã được biết đến nhiều ở Việt Nam qua bộ phim đầu tay “ Once upon the bridge in Vietnam”, cho nên François Bibonne đã được sự trợ giúp của giới báo chí trong nước để tiếp cận được huấn luyện viên đội tuyển Việt Nam Philippe Troussier: “Tôi đã tiếp xúc với Philippe Troussier bằng cách nhắn tin trên mạng Facebook nhờ người tìm dùm. Khi đọc được tin nhắn này, một số nhà báo Việt Nam đã liên lạc ngay với tôi và qua trao đổi thông tin, tôi đã có được địa chỉ email của Philippe Troussier, rồi có được số điện thoại của ông ấy. Sau mấy lần trao đổi với ông ấy, tôi đã có thể đến Liên đoàn Bóng đá Việt Nam để làm việc cho bộ phim. Tôi cũng được cấp thẻ phóng viên cùng với người bạn Louis, đi cùng với tôi trong chuyến quay phim đầu tiên, nên cả hai chúng tôi đã được phép vào xem các buổi tập luyện, quay phim và phỏng vấn, rồi từ đó tiếp cận được những người khác. Philippe Troussier là một huấn luyện viên khác hẳn những người tiền nhiệm. Ông nhậm chức vào thời điểm khó khăn đối với ông, bởi vì đội tuyển Việt Nam vừa giành chiến thắng trong giải SEA Games dưới sự dẫn dắt của huấn luyện viên người Hàn Quốc Park Hang Seo. Kế thừa một đội tuyển như vậy không đơn giản chút nào. Ông đã cải tổ lại cơ cấu đội tuyển, thay đổi rất nhiều tuyển thủ, điều mà không phải ai cũng hài lòng. Ông đã dám làm như thế vì ông không sợ làm những thay đổi lớn trong đội tuyển Việt Nam, như ông đã làm đối với đội tuyển Nhật Bản. Ông đã gặt hái nhiều thành công ở Nhật và rất tin tưởng đi theo cùng con đường đó.Không chỉ là huấn luyện viên, Troussier còn là một người rất trí   thức, có thể nói về nhiều chủ đề và chính ông đã khiến tôi mong muốn đem vào phim một tầm mức nghệ thuật. Tôi đã phỏng vấn ông ấy về âm nhạc, thậm chí hỏi ông ấy có tự xem mình là như một nhạc trưởng mà các nhạc sĩ chính là các cầu thủ hay không? Tôi rất thích sự so sánh đó. Ông không chỉ là một huấn luyện viên bóng đá, mà là một nhân vật độc đáo.” Như tên gọi của dự án phim tài liệu thứ hai, “The Symphony Wins”, trong phim, François Bibonne lồng vào đó rất nhiều giai điệu, đặc biệt là những làn điệu nhạc dân tộc thiểu số vùng Tây Nguyên:“Điều thấy rõ nhất, đó là khi xem các trận đấu bao giờ cũng có tiếng nhạc kèm theo, có những cổ động viên khua trống, có các đội kèn đồng, có những người hát quốc ca. Nhưng ngoài những điều đó, tôi muốn làm một cái gì đó mang tính nghệ thuật, dùng hình ảnh để gắn liền âm nhạc dân tộc Việt Nam với thể thao, mà ở đây là bóng đá. Tôi đặc biệt muốn nêu bật các nhịp điệu qua những nhạc cụ gõ như cồng chiêng của dân tộc thiểu số, như dân tộc Ba Na. Tôi đã quay người dân tộc Ba Na đánh cồng chiêng. Ta có thể ghép tiếng cồng chiêng với âm thanh khi cầu thủ chạm quả bóng. Nhưng không chỉ có tiếng chân cầu thủ chạm vào quả bóng, mà còn có nhảy cao, chạy nhanh, tung hứng như những nghệ sĩ xiếc, nhảy múa, …Ngoài bóng đá ở Việt Nam, tôi muốn nói đến bóng đá nói chung, để cho thấy cái đẹp của nó, không chỉ là một môn thể thao rất được ưa chuộng.”Cũng chính là qua một tháng ở Việt Nam để thực hiện bộ phim mà chàng trai mang hai dòng máu Pháp Việt đã một lần nữa được trở về nguồn và nhất là được khám phá văn hóa của các sắc tộc thiểu số: “Tôi đã bắt đầu ở Hà Nội, rồi sau đó đã đến Kon Tum và Pleiku. Tôi đến Pleiku vì ở đó có trường dạy bóng đá nổi tiếng với một phương pháp khá đặc biệt. Cũng nhân dịp này tôi tìm hiểu về các sắc tộc thiểu số ở vùng này. Gặp gỡ người dân sắc tộc Ba Na gây ấn tượng mạnh cho tôi, vì họ là những người rất gắn bó với văn hóa Pháp, thậm chí đã yểm trợ quân đội Pháp trong thời gian Chiến tranh Đông Dương. Họ là những người rất cởi mở, tôi đã ăn uống với họ, trải qua những buổi tối với họ, tôi thậm chí đã đi dự lễ với họ lúc 4 giờ 30 sáng để quay thánh lễ, thu âm những bài hát bằng tiếng Ba Na thật hay, cũng như thu âm tiếng cồng chiêng. Một lần nữa tôi giống như đang một lần nữa trở về nguồn gốc của mình, hiểu thêm về văn hóa Việt Nam. Cũng nhờ chuyến đi này mà phim của tôi có thêm một chút gì đó mang tính phiêu lưu, không chỉ đến các sân bóng đá, mà còn đi sâu vào các vùng quê để biết thêm về văn hóa địa phương. Dĩ nhiên là thực hiện một bộ phim tài liệu đòi hỏi rất nhiều thời gian, một tháng ở Việt Nam hoàn toàn không đủ để François Bibonne hoàn tất những gì đã dự kiến. Hơn nữa, theo anh, đề tài bóng đá khó hơn là âm nhạc:“Khó khăn đầu tiên của tôi là về thời gian, vì tôi đã chỉ có một tháng, cả tháng 11, trong khi lúc tôi làm bộ phim đầu tiên, do bị kẹt vì đại dịch Covid, tôi đã ở Việt Nam đến 15 tháng. Lần này tôi đã dự trù một tháng, nhưng thời gian đã không đủ để tôi làm tất cả những gì tôi muốn. Nhưng cũng chính điều đó đã thôi thúc tôi phải thực hiện bộ phim nhanh nhất có thể được. Một khó khăn khác là về thời điểm, vì các tuyển thủ có những trận đấu vào những ngày cố định và không phải lúc nào cũng có thể tiếp cận được các tuyển thủ, họ phải được sự cho phép của đội thì mới trả lời phỏng vấn được.Nói chung là việc thực hiện phức tạp hơn rất nhiều so với bộ phim đầu tiên. Đề tài bóng đá khó hơn là âm nhạc. Cho nên tôi sẽ phải quay lại Việt Nam để tiếp tục quay phim, phỏng vấn và tìm hiểu thêm về bóng đá Việt Nam. Làm phim tài liệu đòi hỏi nhiều thời gian, không thể làm hết mọi việc trong một lần. Nhưng nói chung, tôi gặp nhiều thuận lợi hơn là trở ngại trong đợt quay phim đầu tiên.”Thật ra thì khó khăn lớn nhất đối với François Bibonne chính là vấn đề tài chính, vì anh chưa được một công ty nào bảo trợ, hay đúng hơn là anh quá hào hứng với dự án của mình nên đã không chờ đến khi có bảo trợ rồi mới làm. Nhưng François Bibonne cho biết, trước khi thực hiện tiếp dự án phim, anh sẽ kêu gọi đóng góp tài chính, có thể là qua hình thức crowdfunding ( huy động vốn cộng đồng ), tức là mọi người có thể đóng góp tài chính trên trang mạng của anh www.studiothikoan.com để giúp cho dự án được hoàn thành và “gặt hái được thành công lớn hơn bộ phim đầu”Bộ phim tài liệu đầu tay của François Bibonne "Once upon a bridge in Vietnam" chính là dự án đầu tiên được thực hiện bởi studio Thi Koan mà François Bibonne lập ra và đặt theo tên của bà nội Nguyễn Thị Khoan. Nhà đạo diễn trẻ đã ở Việt Nam trong suốt 15 tháng giữa đại dịch Covid-19, đến dự những buổi hòa nhạc, biểu diễn âm nhạc truyền thống, những buổi tập luyện của các nghệ sĩ, hay đến thăm làng làm kèn đồng ở Nam Định, làng vĩ cầm ở Bắc Giang, tìm hiểu về việc duy trì dân ca quan họ ở Bắc Ninh, về ca trù tại Hà Nội…Thành công đã vượt quá sự mong đợi của nhà đạo diễn trẻ. Không chỉ đoạt giải Phim tài liệu ngắn hay nhất tại Liên hoan Phim Los Angeles, "Once upon a bridge in Vietnam" còn đã được trình chiếu ở rất nhiều nơi tại Việt Nam, Pháp và Hoa Kỳ. Nhân dịp Tết Nguyên đán, vào ngày 22/02/2024, bộ phim của François Bibonne cũng sẽ được chiếu tại tòa thị chính quận 13 Paris, vào lúc 19 giờ.

SwimSwam sat down with Nick Mahabir, the Singaporean national known for swimming under David Marsh in San Diego and popping a 1:00 100m breast as a teenager. Mahabir, who has temporarily moved back to Singapore to train for the upcoming SEA Games and World Championships (both of which will occur in Asia), recently attended a media event where World Aquatics announced that Singapore would be hosting the 2025 World Championships. With the move back to his home country, Mahabir discusses how daily life training in Singapore differs from the US. His training partner, world champs finalist and Commonwealth Games medalist Teong Tzen Wei, has not only helped the youth in the pool but out of it, positively influencing his diet and sleeping habits. Mahabir reveals he hasn't eaten processed sugar for 5 months running and plans on keeping it that way through the World Championships. Finally, we asked Mahabir about Singapore's Olympic champion Joe Schooling and how the 100m fly specialist is viewed in his home country. Mahabir notes that after Schooling's suspension for using Marijuana, the country seems to have lost a bit of respect for him. However, Nick shares his own personal experiences with Schooling and says that Schoooling is the most famous person in Singapore and is adored by the vast majority of the population.
