Send us a textOftentimes the trials and tribulations of life drive us to pivot. That's the case today with this show. We decided to re-purpose a past episode, in light of the flurry of recent stories about child exploitation, abuse, and trafficking in the news. It's sobering. From the accusations against P. Diddy, the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, to the sexual abuse scandal and settlement involving the Archdiocese of LA, and now a new lawsuit against WWE's Vince and Linda McMahon, and so many other horrific stories scattered throughout communities near and far - ENUF!

Send us a Text Message.Kyeni Matee (Rechel Bryant Nganga) was traumatized by years of sexual abuse which started in her childhood, at the hands of a relative Later she married her rapist. He was her first husband.Statistics find that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse. Experts say those numbers are much higher, but the prevalence is hard to determine because it's not often reported. The most vulnerable are between the ages of 7 and 13.In this week's Ageless Book Author's Podcast Series, you'll meet a woman who's one of those statistics. Kyeni (pronounced Chain-ee), is a violinist and youth orchestra teacher from Florida. She's also a new author. Kyeni documents her abuse which started when she was 7 or 8 and lasted for several traumatizing years, in her new book – “THE EYES BEHIND THE VIOLIN: A MEMOIR: FINDING MY TRUE IDENTITY.” Her moving story is one of survival and resilience. Her saving grace? Music, Therapy, and Faith. BIO: Kyeni Matee (Rechel Bryant Nganga) has a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She has been teaching with Osceola County Schools in Florida, for 25 years. She currently works as an Itinerant String teacher at one elementary school, and two middle schools in the Osceola County area. Outside of school, she works as the Orchestral Director of the Osceola Arts Youth Orchestra. She also runs a private music studio. She is an active professional musician and enjoys performing on her violin, playing the piano, and singing at church and other churches and venues around the Central Florida area. Rechel is now married to Chuma Nganga Matee, who is from Kenya in East Africa. Rechel visited Kenya for the first time back in 2010. On that first trip, she began a project called: “The Parkway Kawelu Project.” This project allowed her to work with her students here in the U.S. and join Kawelu Primary School in Kenya. The schools worked together to raise money and help Kawelu, an underserved school in Kenya, to refurbish their school and make it more suitable for students. That program continues today but has gone through a metamorphosis. Rechel travels to Kenya every few years and takes members of the community, or students from her Youth Orchestra over to Kenya to service projects like planting trees and doing performances for several schools. Through the project, Rechel led a fundraiser to raise money to purchase English and Kiswahili books for school libraries at Yikisemei Primary School and Kawelu Primary School. When they were married, Chuma, as with custom, gave Rechel a Kenyan name. That name is Kyeni, (Chain-ee) which means “Light.” Outside of work, Rechel goes by her pseudonym: Kyeni Matee, in her new book, which you can order from most book-sellers, including Amazon.Facebook: @kyenimateeInstagram: @kyenimateeYouTube: Kyeni Matee / Support the Show.www.linkedin.com/in/marqueetacurtishaynes www.agelessglamourgirls.com https://www.youtube.com/@agelessglamourgirls Instagram and Facebook: @agelessglamourgirlsFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/agelessglamourgirlsPrivate (AGG) FB Group: The Ageless Café: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theagelesscafeTikTok: @agelessglamourgirlsPodcast Producers: Purple Tulip Media, LLC and WEG Media Group, LLC

SynopsisOn today's date in 1975, the Oakland, California, Youth Orchestra gave the first performance of a symphony by a Bay area resident, American composer Lou Harrison. He began sketches for this symphonic score back in 1942 and tinkered with it off and off until the day of its premiere performance, even stapling in 15 additional measures to the young players' parts at their final dress rehearsal. The commission for Harrison's Fourth Symphony, subtitled The Elegiac, came from the Koussevitzky Foundation, and in part was written as a tribute to the memory of Serge and Natalie Koussevitzky, two of the 20th century's greatest new music patrons. But the intensely personal tone of this elegiac symphony was prompted by the death of Harrison's mother, which was followed by the death of his close friend, iconoclastic American composer and instrument inventor Harry Partch. The symphony's first movement is titled “Tears of the Angel Israfel” — the angel of music in Islamic lore — and the score also bears two inscriptions. The first reads “Epicurus said of death: where death is, we are not; where we are, death is not; therefore, death is nothing to us.” The second inscription is a quote from Horace: “Bitter sorrows will grow milder with music.”Music Played in Today's ProgramLou Harrison (1917-2003) Symphony No. 2 (Elegiac); American Composers Orchestra; Dennis Russell Davies, cond. What an incredible way to kick off the day chatting with Melissa Ferrick about her craft and songwriting. For one night only they will be performing at the Provincetown Art House so get your tickets before they are gone! Mark Cortale Presents the incomparable MELISSA FERRICK for 1 show only for Girl Splash! Melissa grew up in Ipswich, MA during the 70's, playing the violin and going to jazz clubs on the North Shore with her father, who managed local bands. In elementary school, she learned to play trumpet and bass guitar, which led the way to songwriting in high school. At 16, Melissa was accepted into the New England Conservatory's Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as a trumpet player, giving her the opportunity to tour with the Conservatory's Extension Division, which traveled to perform in California and China. She was accepted to Berklee College of Music on songwriting and trumpet scholarships and chose to continue her music education there from 1988-1990. After two years playing Boston's local rock club scene, Melissa left school and moved to New York City. In 1990, Melissa lived on 14th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, playing at the Bitter End weekly and working at Right Track Recording studios and Chrysalis Records to learn the ropes of the business. In July of 1991, Melissa's phone rang and she was asked to open that night for Morrissey in Boston on his Kill Uncle tour. She was invited to finish the U.S. dates with Morrissey and to continue on to the U.K. as his opening act. When she returned to the States, at 20 years old, she was offered deals with three major labels. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/stephanie7502/support
