Born in Fairborn, Ohio and raised in California Josiah Woodson started his musical journey under the tutelage of his mentor Khalil Shaheed in Oakland Ca at the age of 14. Beginning in Shaheed's own Oaktown Jazz Workshop among the now prominent musicians like Ambrose Akinmusire, Dayna Stevens, Jonathan Finlayson, and Geoffrey Countrymen, Josiah later went on to complete his undergraduate degree at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Tommy Crane is a NYC and Montreal based musician. Crane has recorded and performed with Ambrose Akinmusire, Melissa Aldana, Briars of North America, The Mingus Big Band, Linda Oh, Thus Owls, Aaron Parks, Richard Reed Parry, Logan Richardson, Bing and Ruth, Becca Stevens, Half Waif, Port St Willow, and Wood River. In 2017 Crane was commissioned by the Lincoln Center, NY, to create a multimedia piece titled "Preservation" in collaboration with filmmaker Tracy Maurice. Crane's composition was performed live and released as a full-length album in 2019. In addition to Crane, the recording features performances by Colin Killalea (Albert Hammond Jr.), Eliot Krimsky (Here we go magic), and Greg Chudzik (Steve Reich). In 2017/2018, Crane toured extensively with Melissa Aldana and recorded the Grammy Nominated album "Visions" with the band. Crane is also a core member of Aaron Parks's "Little Big" (whom he met and befriended at a jazz camp in NYC when they were both 15 years old). Crane also taught improvisational ensembles at the Accademia Nazionale del Jazz - Siena Jazz in Italy (2019-2020). He contributes original compositions to various WNYC and NPR podcasts and is also a Sunhouse artist. Known for his modern approach to jazz, technical mastery on the kit and high aptitude for rhythm and independence, Steve Lyman is emerging as one of the leading voices on the drums around the globe. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Lyman moved to New York City in 2005 to study at the prestigious New School University. Lyman quickly began working with some of New York's finest musicians under the tutelage of his teacher and mentor, drummer Ari Hoenig. Lyman's first major opportunity was performing with vocalist José James (with whom Lyman was an active member from 2006-2008) performing on Mr. James's critically acclaimed album The Dreamer, which was voted #21 of the top 50 albums in 2008 (JazzTimes Magazine). As a performer, Lyman has enjoyed sharing the stage with some of the leading voices in jazz and contemporary music, including: Aaron Parks, Jon Batiste, Gilad Hekselman, Nir Felder, Julian Pollack, Chase Baird, José James, Ben van Gelder, Ben Street, Bill McHenry, George Garzone, Ralph Alessi, Logan Richardson, Jaleel Shaw, Thomas Morgan, Tyshawn Sorey, Madeline Eastman, Joe Martin, Dan Tepfer, Becca Stevens, Kris Johnson and Corey Christiansen to name a few. Lyman has also toured the world extensively as a performer. In Europe, Lyman has performed throughout the UK, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, playing such venues as the BBC Studios London, The Blue Note Milan, and the New Morning Paris. In the United States, Lyman has performed at the renown Blue Note and Smalls jazz clubs regularly, both as a sideman and as a leader. As an educator, Lyman has led workshops and masterclasses throughout the US and is becoming a first-call international clinician. In 2018 Lyman led his first ever drum clinic tour in the UK—teaching to hundreds of drummers around the regions of London, Wales, Bristol and at Universities and music festivals throughout the greater UK. Upcoming clinics include: Argentina, Singapore as well as returning to the UK in 2020. Lyman released his debut record Revolver in 2013 which featured all original compositions and received 5 Stars from All About Jazz Magazine. Lyman is also the author of the book A New Approach to Odd-Times for Drumset published by Mel Bay Publications (2013). In 2019 Steve will be filming on online lesson for Drumeo and touring the US and EU with saxophonist Chase Baird. Ce soir jazz and co explore sinon le côté obscur du jazz, au moins son aspect expérimental avec en invité Quentin Rollet. Musicien mais aussi animateur du label Bisou records; il vient nous parler de son dernier disque en trio avec Jean Marc Foussat et Christian Rollet à l’ambiance électro-acoustique aux contours parfois rugueux, parfois plus aériens. Mais nous évoquerons aussi avec lui les autres titres de son label avec notamment un lp d’Eugène Chadbourne et le coffret du 50ème anniversaire du Workshop de Lyon. La musique sera donc trans-générationnelle. En deuxième heure Mylène et Philippe font une escale en Afrique du sud à moins que ce ne soit l’Afrique du sud qui s’invite à Paris depuis quelques temps. Après la venue d’Abdullah Ibrahim au festival Banlieues Bleues en mars dernier, voici que débarque le festival Métis qui invite notamment Marcus Wyatt et de nombreux autres artistes sud africains. Hélène s’attarde sur le dernier cd de Logan Richardson et Olivier ferme le bal avec un focus sur le nouveau disque du batteur Dan Weiss aux accents très « prog ». El trompetista Raynald Colom actuará el sábado 9 y el domingo 10 de julio de 2016 en Clamores en Madrid acompañado por el saxo alto Logan Richardson, el guitarrista David Soler, más la rítmica formada por el contrabajista Paco Charlín y la batería de Marc Miralta. En unos meses este músico verá publicada la grabación de su nuevo proyecto STEEL. En HDO escuchamos “A.I.”, single publicado como adelanto de esta nueva aventura y cuyos beneficios irán a la ONG “Stop Mare Mortum”, que trabaja para fomentar un cambio en las políticas europeas de extranjería y migratorias. Escuchamos a dos clásicos de la batería, el italiano Aldo Romano y el suizo Daniel Humair, en tres grabaciones. El primero lidera Inner Smile, proyecto que le reunió en 2011 con Enrico Rava (trompeta), Baptiste Trotignon (piano) y Thomas Bramerie (contrabajo) y enciende Lights junto al trompetista Nicolas Folmer. El segundo daba en 2008 forma en Full contact a un trío junto a Joachim Kühn (piano) y Tony Malaby (saxo tenor). Además nos acercaremos de nuevo a En Jota, proyecto del saxofonista Josetxo Goia-Aribe que incluye una versión de Il piacere de Romano. En esta edición de "Club de Jazz" del 3 de abril de 2013, la música del cuarteto Made to Break, formado por Tim Daisy (batería), Devin Hoff (bajo eléctrico), Christof Kurzmann (electrónicas) y Ken Vandermark (saxos y clarinete). Acaban de publicar el disco Provoke. Volvemos a invocar a los Saxophone Spirits del saxofonista Liba Villavecchia, trabajo de solo de saxo del que es coproductor el pianista Agustí Fernández, de quien escuchamos su Barcelona junto al guitarrista Derek Bailey registrado en el año 2001. El pianista israelí Yaron Herman presenta Alter Ego en formato de quinteto con los saxofonistas Emile Parisien y Logan Richardson, el bajista Stephane Kerecki y el baterista Ziv Ravitz. Dos tercios de Digital Primitives (de los que escuchamos en un reciente programa un concierto y entrevista), se reunieron en 2003 en America. Son el saxofonista Assif Tsahar y el pianista, intérprete de banjo, diddley-bo y más instrumentos de su creación, Cooper-Moore. Toda la información y derechos: http://www.elclubdejazz.com
