Grateful to be back. God is faithful, kind, just, pure, and holy! There's not enough descriptive words to express and explain just how amazing He is. Would you help me exalt, extol, and honor Him this morning? Use your voice, your prayer and praise is a weapon to the kingdom of darkness! Use it daily!! Proverbs 18:21*** there's no verse 31 in the book of Proverbs chapter 18, I misspoke and wanted to correct myself***
Todaywe are looking at one of the most exciting stories in the New Testament. I liketo call it the story of a little big sinner. That's the story of Zacchaeus, aman who comes seeking Jesus as Jesus is seeking him. What a wonderful story. This is probably one of the favorite stories of little children in Sundayschool growing up, with the great song, "Zacchaeus was a wee little man,and a wee little man was he. And one day, Jesus passed his way.” InLuke 19:1, Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. Now remember, Jericho wasthe Las Vegas of Christ's day. It was the place where gambling, prostitutes, and where the mafia had their headquarters, so to speak. It was a bad place, and Jesus entered and passed through. Jesus is ready to pass through yourplace, no matter who you are or where you are. Jesus is seeking sinners, aswe'll see in the first 10 verses of this chapter. Behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, and he was rich.Zacchaeus was Jewish, and his name means "righteous one," but he wasanything but righteous. He was not only a tax collector but the chief taxcollector, maybe even Matthew's boss at one time. Perhaps after Matthew becamea follower of Christ, he was burdened for Zacchaeus and prayed for him. NowZacchaeus has a prepared heart. He was rich, from collecting taxes for theRoman government while cheating people and taking more than he was supposed to.But his wealth did not bring him satisfaction or peace. Hesought to see who Jesus was but could not because of the crowd, for he was ofshort stature. He was a little guy, not very tall. Because of the crowd, hecouldn't get to Jesus. That's true today—many people are kept from Jesusbecause of the crowd leading them the wrong way, telling them the lies of theworld. My friend don't let the crowd keep you from Jesus. Don't follow amultitude to do evil. Zacchaeus couldn't see over the crowd or well enough tosee who Jesus was and what He was doing. He was curious, so he ran ahead andclimbed into a sycamore tree to see Him, knowing Jesus would pass that way. Ilike to say that Zacchaeus put himself “in the way of Grace”. Jesuswould like to pass your way if you're looking for Him. Zacchaeus, a man, becomes like a child. In the days of Christ, and even today, rich men don'trun—they walk with dignity and pride. But this man humbles himself. Not onlywas he small in stature, but he humbled his heart and became small in his ownsight. Remember in Luke 18, Jesus said, “Unless you become like a child, youcan't enter the kingdom of God,” WhenJesus came to the place, He looked up, saw him, and said, “Zacchaeus, makehaste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” So he made haste, came down, and received Him joyfully. This chapter illustrates Ephesians 2:8-9as well as anywhere in the Bible: “For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any manshould boast.” Theone thing that keeps people from coming to Jesus is pride. A seeking sinnerwill always find a seeking Savior. I don't fully understand how Jesus seeks uswhile something happens to humble our hearts, and we begin to seek Him. But Iknow that it is the work of God's marvelous grace, which only takes place whenwe humble ourselves. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James4:6). Only by grace can you be saved and begin to have a heart that seeksJesus. Here'sa rich man who has need of nothing, but he's lonely inside, has no friends, andpeople don't like him. He's a sinner, but Jesus loves sinners. What a greatstory. Today, I don't know who you are, where you're at, or what's going on inyour life, but Jesus, by His grace, is ready to pass your way. Areyou looking for Him? If you're looking, you will find Him, and He'll find you.
One of the biggest misconceptions most people have is we think other people actually care about us. And nothing can be further from the truth. People only care about what they care about. When it comes to sales, it's important to remember, most popelpe are not going to jump at the first offer you make. And I see so many people run the typical line of "Hey buy my shit." "If you like this, then you'll really like this....it's only XYZ-dollars." The truth is, you have to be a bit smoother when you're approaching people. It requires you actually caring enough to take the time to find out what they like. What they think. What they enjoy doing. Why they do what they do. So how do you build rapport long enough to have a conversation and gain someone's trust, especailly if they're a perfect stranger? I'm glad you asked. I'm going to cover how to be a socail recon master in this episode and how to leverage it to make more connections. Build relationships. Make more offers. And close more sales. Mid-bore cartridges kill nearly as profoundly as true big-bores, but recoil little more than common magnums. Of the mild big-bores, the .35 Whelen and 9.3x62 Mauser dominate. But which is best? In this episode John McAdams, host of the Big Game Hunting Podcast and a lifelong fan of the 9x3x62, joins me to discuss and debate the merits of the two. We dig deep into tech specs, tell personal buffalo and elephant hunting stories, debate best bullets for each cartridge, and generaly have a ton of fun. ENJOY! FRIENDS! He is wondering why he isn't getting a call back... but why isn't he? Could it because he kept bringing up working out on their first date?
Jesus says I tell you the truth I'm telling you straight I can do nothing on my own. Not a single thing. Without dependence upon the Father, I would make no progress. I am incapable of anything. This isn't just an intellectual idea but a lived-out reality. Perfect synchronisation. The Son doesn't and indeed the Son can't—go his own way but stays in perfect step with the Father: “When the Father acts, Jesus acts.
On todays pod Lou Angelwolf, an American stand up comedian makes his debut. Lou and Carmen are good friends and have performed together on the same stages since the early 90s. Every so often we here Donny and his attempt to stop Carmen from interrupting Lou when he talks about the Indians and how they consulted with the council of Grandmas. Also much more.
John Crowley's Little, Big is, at once, a family saga, a fairy tale, an occult thriller, an idyll, a dystopia, as well as a meditation on myth and history, the real and the fantasy, memory and imagination. Little, Big is also a book that JF and Phil have been planning to discuss for as long as Weird Studies has existed. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”- Proverbs 22:6God's Word tells us that children should be taught early how to live wisely and righteously, including how to handle money. Howard Dayton is here to explain why it's especially important to teach kids about the dangers of debt.Howard Dayton is the founder of Compass Financial Ministry and the former host of this program. He is also the author of a number of books on the topic of Christian Finance and Stewardship. The Little-Big Principle: Starting SmallThe Little-Big principle is based on Luke 16:10: “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much.” This principle encourages parents to start small when teaching children about money. The idea is to give kids small amounts to manage, like nickels and dimes, and then gradually increase the amount as they prove responsible. Eventually, they'll be prepared to manage larger amounts of money.Parents should aim to steadily increase their children's financial responsibilities so that by the time they're seniors in high school, they're independently managing most of their finances, aside from essentials like food and shelter. They should also be as systematic in teaching children about money as schools teach them to read and write—starting with the basics and progressing over time. When children reach their junior year in high school, they should open a checking account and get a secured credit card. This allows them to learn critical skills, like reconciling budgets and paying off balances in full each month. Developing these habits early on can set them on a path to financial freedom and help them avoid debt throughout their lives. The MVP Parenting Method: Model, Verbalize, and Provide Practical OpportunitiesThe MVP method—modeling, verbal communication, and practical opportunities—is a very beneficial framework for teaching children about money. All three are essential for training children to be good stewards of God's resources.1. ModelingParents must lead by example. In 1 Corinthians 11:1, Paul said, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” Children learn by watching their parents handle money wisely, so parents need to demonstrate sound financial stewardship. Whether budgeting, giving, or avoiding debt, children are more likely to adopt these habits when they see them modeled in everyday life.2. Verbal CommunicationThe Bible instructs us to teach our children about God's ways consistently. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 encourages parents to impress God's commandments upon their children and talk about them regularly. Parents should frequently discuss biblical financial principles with their kids, helping them understand how these truths apply to their own lives.3. Practical OpportunitiesGiving children opportunities to apply what they've learned is essential. Hands-on experiences help children understand the impact of debt in a tangible way.Resources for Financial DiscipleshipFor parents looking to dive deeper, Howard Dayton and Compass Financial Ministry offer a resource titled Financial Discipleship for Families: Intentionally Raising Faithful Children. This book provides more detailed guidance on teaching kids about finances from a biblical perspective and is available through Amazon or Compass Financial Ministry's website.Teaching kids about money doesn't happen overnight. It's a process that requires modeling good habits, consistent communication, and providing practical opportunities for them to learn. By applying the Little-Big principle and becoming MVP parents, you can equip your children with the financial wisdom they need to be faithful stewards of God's resources for a lifetime. For more tools and resources, visit Compass Financial Ministry at CompassFinancialMinistry.org. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I've had some health issues over the last seven months, and my kids would like me to move out to Washington State. I found a lovely condo that interests me, but it's a co-op. I didn't know much about co-ops, so I would like to know if you have any words of wisdom for me about what I should be aware of when considering a co-op property. For the past three years, I've been giving through the required minimum distribution (RMD) program. My church has been happy to receive these funds, but I'm still working. I was told you don't have to take the RMD if you're still working. Is that true?I have an IRA and retirement account to be divided equally between my three children. One of my children's spouses does not handle money well. Can I set up a trust for that child's portion to distribute according to my wishes when I pass away? My son, the executor, doesn't want to do this because he's concerned it could cause problems.I have an old revocable trust, over 40 years old, that no longer reflects my current situation. Is there any way I can get rid of this trust without going through many steps or spending a lot of money with an attorney?I'm 64 years old and considering end-of-life planning and documents. I want to ensure my affairs are in order and avoid probate when I'm gone. But the lawyers are quoting me $3,000 to $5,000 to get everything set up. Can I get this done more affordably without spending that much? I'm not great at paperwork, so I'm looking for an option that only requires a little DIY.Resources Mentioned:Compass Financial MinistryFinancial Discipleship for Families: Intentionally Raising Faithful Children by Brian C. Beterbiev versus Bivol, is the Hardcore's dream matchup, but this fight doesn't seem to have gathered much traction in the mainstream media. Is this is down to the effect of Anthony Joshua versus Daniel Dubois, and the kind of emotional fatigue that boxing fans will have after such a big event? It poses a question, are we having too much boxing in a short space of time, and not giving fans the opportunity to appreciate what could be a historic era in Boxing?

Another of America's most prolific comedians, Chelsea Handler has had quite the extensive career. She not only hosted her own late-night comedy show on E!, she's also had a couple of Netflix shows, performed countless standup shows, hosted her own podcast, and written a number of books. She's bringing her comedy tour ‘Little Big B****' to New Zealand shores for a couple of days this coming July, the show already on the road. “It's going pretty well,” Handler told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking. “So, I'm coming to New Zealand.” The act will eventually be filmed and turned into a Netflix special, but Handler says she doesn't have to fulfil that obligation until the end of the year. “I was like, oh, let me take this on the road because it's, I've got this whole year and, you know, I love to visit these places and come back and see people, and meet people up close and personal.” “It's a different, you know, different level of travel fun.” Comedians often try to tailor their acts to their locations to at least a small degree, localising certain jokes and leaving out others that just wouldn't land, but for the most part Handler say's her act goes down the same. “If you're coming to see me, you probably know me, so you know what to expect, you know?” “It's not like I'm introducing myself to people all the time.” Although it is definitely motivated by her love of travel, Handler admits that her international tours are in part motivated by her desire to get out of the United States, telling Hosking that “America's pretty rough”. “These days it's a pretty hard pill to swallow,” she told him. “So, I choose to smoke a lot of cannabis and travel as much as I can out of the country.” Her upcoming travel plans included a month in Spain, a visit to Australia, and one to New Zealand. “Anything to get out of this country.” Comedy serves a variety of purposes, some using it for commentary, others for escapism and levity. Handler falls into the latter category. "I wanna like, pass high vibes around,” Handler told Hosking. “I want people to come to my show, leave having forgotten whatever that was annoying them that day in their life.” Many comedians chafe against the idea that there could be boundaries to their art, holding the opinion that as long as it's a joke, it's free game. Handler doesn't agree. “I'm not against having people set parameters about what you're about to say, what you're allowed to say, or what's going to be frowned upon,” she said. “If you want to say I can't make fun of, you know, different cultures because that's insensitive, okay, that's fair!” Art is often about breaking boundaries but when it comes to entertainment, there's also value in working within a framework. Handler told Hosking that working within boundaries is a good challenge for any comedian or artist, as it challenges them to focus on something beyond the lowest common denominator. “Perhaps focus that energy back on yourself and make a joke about yourself first,” she said. “Like with everything, start within. It's the same in comedy.” Over the years Handler has created a wide variety of content, allowing her to really nail down the type of art she likes to create and the means with which she creates it. “I don't like to be, having to be in the same place every day,” she told Hosking. “I like to be around the world and like, you know, I do my podcast from Majorca, I can do my podcast in London, I could do my podcast wherever.” "I kind of feel like I found the best thing to live my life to the fullest.” Chelsea Handler's ‘Little Big B**** Tour' is coming to Wellington's St James Theatre on July 5th, and Auckland Town Hall on July 6th. After saving Springfield from a fire, Bart is awarded his own driver's license, leading him to North Haverbrook where he meets a teenage girl named Darcy (voiced by Natalie Portman).Meanwhile, Lisa pretends her family has Native American heritage.Honestly, the Bart story was pretty fun, especially the reversal of him now having to give others a lift.Lisa's story was harder to buy into, although it's believable that someone who's worked so hard for her academic reputation to be afraid of being caught out in a lie that has escalated beyond her expectations.Support the Four Finger Discount Network for EARLY & AD-FREE access to every show we produce, as well as 100 hours of exclusive content!
