Michael Oldroyd - Comedy Podcast

In this one, Mike talks about the recent power outage at Rockefeller Center and how it could have affect Kevin McAllister in finding his mom in Home Alone II, dressing up like Buddy the Elf and trying to get tickets for the Polar Express at Grand Central Station in NYC, and coming home for Christmas and putting on a comedy show this week at The Wildwood Pub in WIldwood, Missouri. He also talks about his experience last week doing the Los Angeles Comedy Festival for the 2nd year in a row with John Grimes and much more! Tune in for a good listen and a nice sync-up to Mike's perspective on things in the world and the latest in his journey

Leah Rudick is an actor, writer, and comedian whose Wealthy Woman character videos have earned her almost one million followers on Instagram and TikTok. Thanks to her breakout social media success, Leah is now selling out comedy shows all over the country. In these videos, a clueless woman of wealth shares her point-of-view on everyday experiences like going to Cracker Barrel, flying Southwest Airlines, renting a car, or taking the bus. I (Paul Ollinger, hoster of show / writer of episode notes) find her videos hilarious. Leah was in Atlanta last week for a sold-out show at City Winer. She was kind enough to come by the house to chat money, success, and the very odd jobs that helped her pay the bills as a struggling actress. A native of Cincinnati, Leah began performing improv in New York City after graduating from Sarah Lawrence College. Her work has taken her to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. New York Sketchfest, and the Los Angeles Comedy Festival. She has appeared on HBO's hit High Maintenance and IFC's Commuters.

Michael Oldroyd - Comedy Podcast

Mike odorlessly has verbal diarrhea into the ether. He starts with Kanye, Trump and Sanctimonious then moves to the elephant in the room (Football) - not a reference to Alabama. He talks about blocking in Gronk's car at a Christmas party, going back to Eureka High School to train and be with his team and coaches, the holiday season, the Los Angeles Comedy Festival, Deon Sanders, the bowl games, recent shows and testimonials from people that find him hilarious, OnlyFans and a girl that asked him to film content with her for her subscribers, the holidays and the power of belief! #believe

As entertainers, we usually worry if we are funny enough. And it’s understandable. Laughter is a good indication (though it is by no means the only indication) that our audience is indeed being entertained. If comedy is something you wish you’re better at, or if you simply want more tips and inspiration on how to be funny, David DeVito, who has been voted “Best Stand-Up” in the Los Angeles Comedy Festival, shares a good number of solid tips in this interview. (We’ve listed them all in the extended notes, so be sure to get a copy.) In this episode we discuss: David’s average performing week and his shows Why David says “If there are adults in the audience, you’re not doing a children’s show.” An easy way to engage the kids and make the adults laugh: Take cue from Art Linkletter’s Kids Say the Darndest Things Do you need to be funny or can you learn to be funny Tips for funnier and better shows so you can charge higher and score more bookings The anatomy of a joke The comedy technique that you can learn from Everybody Loves Raymond The importance of being willing to fail and putting yourself out there The experimental segment in David’s shows Bigger laughter = More money

“Just think about the end goal, not necessarily how your going to get there, sometimes you’ll get there in the most unexpected ways” - Naomi talking about her path and consciousness. Naomi Grossman holds the distinguished honor of playing the first crossover character, the fan-favorite, “Pepper” on FX’s American Horror Story: Asylum & Freak Show. She was also named one of IMDb's "Top 10 Breakout Stars" of 2014. It was then reprised at the world-famous fringe theatre festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, where it received more critical praise (4 stars: The Scotsman, Broadway Baby, Fringe Review) and a transfer to London’s West End (Leicester Square Theatre). It later went on to have a successful run Off-Off Broadway. Naomi’s first solo endeavor, Girl in Argentine Landscape, also received critical acclaim (LA Weekly, “Pick of the Week”) and earned her an LA Weekly Theatre Award nomination for best solo performance. Naomi toured with Girl to Chicago's Single File Festival, the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival, the New York International Fringe Festival, and screened a subtitled video-version on the big screen in Argentina. A graduate of theatre from Northwestern University, as well as a former member of the esteemed Groundlings Sunday Company, Naomi has written, produced, and starred in numerous comedic shorts under her “Red Meat Entertainment” banner, which have screened at the LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival, the TriMedia Film Festival, the Connecticut Film Festival, the Dam Short Film Festival, the Faux Film Festival, the Los Angeles Comedy Festival, the Wet Your Pants Comedy Film Festival, the Action On Film International Festival, and the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival. Steve Cooper talks with writer Peter Mehlman. Peter's first job out of college was as a writer for the Washington Post. He slid to television in 1982, writing for SportsBeat with Howard Cosell. From 1985-90, he returned to forming full sentences as a writer for numerous national publications including The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Esquire, and a multitude of women’s magazines. In 1989, he moved to Los Angeles, where he bumped into Larry David, whom he’d met twice in New York. David, developing Seinfeld, invited him to submit a sample script. Having never written one, Mehlman sent a humor piece he’d written for the Times Magazine and got an assignment, which became the first Seinfeld freelance episode, The Apartment. Over the eight-year run of the show, he rose to executive producer and coined such Seinfeld-isms as Yada Yada, spongeworthy, shrinkage and double-dipping. In 1997, he joined DreamWorks and created It’s like, you know… a scathing look at Los Angeles. In recent years, he has written screenplays, a novel, and humor pieces for NPR, Esquire, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times, several of which were published in his collection, Mandela Was Late. In addition, he has also appeared on-camera for TNT Sports and the Webby-nominated Peter Mehlman’s Narrow World of Sports, while also starring in his short film BLANK, for which he won best writing at the Los Angeles Comedy Festival.
