“It's not going to be perfect, but nothing is perfect. The hardest thing about making music is finishing music.” How does the multi-hyphenate differ from coast to coast? On this episode of Dear Multi-Hyphenate, dj-choreographer-producer-performer, wasn't originally drawn to the word multi-hyphenate or “Renaissance Woman”. But in 2021, Penny Wildman, who also goes by PENNYWILD, resonates with the phrase as she no longer waits for permission to tackle her avenues.  Are we in a new era of Artist's Guilt and has it flipped on its head? Where an Artist's Guilt is usually born out of an artist feeling they aren't creating enough… in a response to a pandemic, is it the guilt now is a response to creating too much, especially in a world where so many people are less inspired to create.  PennyWild is always finding the balance in, you guessed it, social media - especially TikTok. The app can change lives, but is the Russian Roulette gamble worth it? What does growth actually look like and how can we get from point A to point B. Like PennyWild says, sometimes we are just flying by the seat of our pants. Sometimes it just takes ONE moment to hit us in the “pleasure center” to disenroll from our college courses and switch gears. People may think it's weird, but when we find paths for artistic opportunities - it can create a beautiful orb of work. It may not make sense on paper, but it's a beautiful thing. “Nothing in life is black and white. It's all very nuanced. It's all very complicated and that really checks out with this year.” Penny Wildman is a Music Producer, DJ, Director, and Choreographer living in Los Angeles by way of New York City. She has choreographed/directed for the likes of Zedd, Rich The Kid, Laidback Luke, Enrique Iglesias, Marian Hill, Weird Al, Gucci Mane, amongst others. Theatrical Choreography credits include Ryan Murphy's FEUD: Bette & Joan (FX), ANNIE at The Hollywood Bowl (Associate), Merrily… at The Wallis Theatre (Associate), The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Boston Conservatory, Little Miss Fix-It at PACE University, etc.  As PENNYWILD, she has performed at globally renowned music festivals such as Coachella, SXSW, Lightning in a Bottle, BUKU Arts Festival, HARD Summer etc. She released her 1st single on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records, followed by her debut EP on Dome of Doom Records in October 2020. Her sophomore EP will be released Summer 2021.  Penny appeared on London's prestigious West End in the iconic Broadway musical West Side Story and toured with the production throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. This week, two Emmy nominated heavy hitters. First up: Alfred Molina. Talk about auspicious starts: Alfred Molina's first American film role was as the "Throw me the idol, I'll throw you the whip" guy in the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Since then, he's had over 150 parts. That includes unforgettable roles in movies like Coffee and Cigarettes, Boogie Nights, and yes - even Spider-Man 2. He just got an Emmy nomination for his role on Feud: Bette and Joan. Then, Louie Anderson, the legendary standup and former TV host. His role as Christine on the FX show Baskets just earned him his second Emmy nomination. When he plays Christine, he's in drag, sort of, but there's no camp to it, no winking at the camera. He takes the part seriously, plays Christine funny when she's funny, plays her sad when she's sad. He says that's due in part because the role is played in tribute to his own mother. Finally: Faye Dunaway. Steve McQueen. Sex chess. These are a few of Jesse's favorite things... in the 1968 film the Thomas Crown Affair.

Waters talks about the freedom of writing across multiple media, film critic Parker Tyler, his early days abusing zoom lenses and getting arrested for Mondo Trasho, and how his bad taste movement has been folded into the mainstream, from reality television to raunchy Hollywood comedies, to the current occupant of the White House. Waters called in from his home in Baltimore (where there's a special word tailor-made for the likes of Trump).

In our first Emmy podcast of the 2016-2017 Emmy season, Chris Pepper and I focus on the Limited Series and TV Movie categories. Starting with Supporting Actress and Actor, we debate if American Horror Story can still muster nominations for Emmy winners Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson or will Ryan Murphy's new venture, Feud: Bette and Joan, gobble up those spots for Judy Davis and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Category placement is still up in the air for many performances right now so we could see a different lineup in the coming months.  Lead Actor is next with debate about Ewan McGregor in a double role for Fargo making it in or possibly getting the Patrick Wilson treatment. And, are both Riz Ahmed and John Turturro (The Night Of) getting in? We hit the top categories, Limited Series and TV Movie, which feel much more locked than they should be at the moment.  We end on the most competitive Emmy category in many years, Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie. Jam packed with Oscar winners and nominees, this category has 10 legitimate contenders vying for six spots. Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer, Carrie Coon, Felicity Huffman, Regina King, Oprah Winfrey, and Viola Davis will battle it out here. There will be snubs.  Intro music: Opening theme to Feud: Bette and Joan by Mac Quayle Outro music: Opening theme to Big Little Lies: "Cold Little Heart," by Michael Kiwanuka

Now much like the anthology that is American Horror Story, each season focuses on one story and the series strings together on a familiar theme – bitter real-lift rifts and historic feuds. And the first season is off to a raving start focusing on the most notorious cat fight in Hollywood history. This inaugural season takes us down the rabbit hole that was the war between the original Screen Queens, Bette David and Joan Crawford. I admit I was so excited when this show was originally announced, it gave me more goosebumps then when I found out they were remaking Godzilla vs. King Kong. “Feuds are never about hate — feuds are about pain. They’re about pain.” With those foreboding words, softly cooed to camera by Olivia de Havilland portrayed by Catherine Zeta Jones — a contemporary of both Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, in the midst of an interview about the two stars — and we’re off on the sordid tale about one of the most epic feuds in Hollywood… As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of old Hollywood, and Bette Davis is one of my favorite actresses of all time, so you can imagine I was front and center for this ingenious new show. For those of you that don’t know the feud that was Davis vs. Crawford, you’ll need to know this: their feud was incredibly delicious and so very publicly played out so much so that the subject was ripe for this brilliant dramedy; add in brilliant portrayals by Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange – Bette and Joan respectively – well it set the bar pretty high before they were even out of the gates. In truth, either this would have been an incredible failure or something so delightfully decadent that it would soothe the souls of us purists. Lucky for us… it’s the latter, and I don’t make that statement lightly. So let’s jump right into it.

Booth One continues its string of lively guest co-host episodes with our good friend Paul Stroili, actor, writer, director and filmmaker, sitting in the hot seat for still-recuperating Roscoe. Who has, by the way, rented a Barca Lounger to watch movies from for his convalescence. We're going to need a photo of that. Frequent Booth One listeners will remember that Paul has appeared on past episodes, talking about his long-running hit production of Tony n' Tina's Wedding and just being his hilarious, Booth One type entertaining self. He's working on writing a sequel to that outstanding piece of audience interactive theater. We can't wait! Gary and Paul take a look at the current Broadway season, highlighting Glenn Close as Norma Desmond in the new revival of Sunset Boulevard. The NY Times says that her reinvented performance after 22 years "may well guarantee its status as one of the great stage performances of this century." And "one of those rare instances where more is truly more." An actor cannot win a Tony for the same role, even in different productions. Yul Brynner was given an honorary Tony when he appeared in a revival of The King and I. Could there be a "special" Tony Award in the offing for Close? Read the full review here. We also discuss the upcoming revival of Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes, featuring Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon in the roles of Regina and Birdie, directed by Daniel Sullivan at the Manhattan Theatre Club. Here's the catch - the actresses will alternate parts at select performances! Now that's something worth seeing in back-to-back seatings. We'll eagerly await the notices when this show opens in mid-April. And hope to see it ourselves. A fun fact: The title of the play was suggested by Dorothy Parker. One of our favorite theater reviewers, Charles Isherwood, is leaving his post at the New York Times for points unknown. Isherwood not only reviewed Broadway and off-Broadway fare, but he was a frequent viewer and critic of Chicago and other regional theater productions. Booth One has always enjoyed his insight and candor. There's a wonderful opportunity here for the up-and-coming new generation of cultural art critics. If you or a loved one are interested in pursuing this position, American Theatre has published the full job description. See how many of the requirements you qualified for. Who knows? We might be quoting from your review some day on Booth One! It's that time of year again....OSCAR time! Gary and Paul handicap their favorites in the major categories alongside picks received from Roscoe! Will La La Land make a sweep? Or is Hidden Figures the dark horse for best picture? Natalie Portman, Emma Stone or Meryl Streep as Best Actress? Denzel or Casey? What to say about Mahershala Ali in Moonlight! Play along with the guys by downloading your own Oscar ballot here. Judy Garland no longer rests in New York State. Her remains were recently exhumed and transferred to Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, ostensibly to be nearer her three living children. Now residing near the burial grounds of Cecil B. DeMille and Mickey Rooney, Judy's coffin is at rest in the Land of Angels. "City of stars, are you shining just for me?" Paul tells of his experiences watching films projected on the side of Douglas Fairbank's memorial in Forever Cemetery. Perhaps one day soon they will screen The Wizard of Oz in tribute to a great lady. A final tidbit of information for our listeners - check out Ryan Murphy's newest series, Feud: Bette and Joan upcoming on Sundays to FX. This latest FX anthology will no doubt thrust stars Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon, who play Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, respectively, into awards conversations for next year. Kiss of Death David Shepard - Film Preservationist Shepard began accumulating old films at age 12, buying them reel by reel with money he earned from his paper route. Over the years,
