I'm thrilled to share with you some exciting insights from my conversation, where I had the pleasure of interviewing Jana Short, the inspiring editor-in-chief of Best Holistic Life Magazine. Jana Short is not just the editor-in-chief of a magazine with over 1 million subscribers, she is a woman of purpose. Despite her busy schedule, she joined me on my podcast, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Jana's work has earned her numerous accolades, including being named one of the Los Angeles Women of the Year and the top influencer by Los Angeles Entrepreneur Magazine. The Power of Holistic Living: Jana's journey into holistic health began when traditional medicine failed her. She discovered a world of holistic approaches that brought her hope and a new perspective on life. Despite her medical diagnosis, she found a way to thrive and create meaningful memories. She emphasized the importance of mindset and the power of choosing happiness, regardless of external circumstances.Spirituality vs. Religion: Jana distinguishes between spirituality and religion, stating that she is spiritual rather than religious. She believes that spirituality is about how we show up in the world and the positive energy we project. The Importance of Self-Care: Jana shared her insights on self-care and the importance of saying yes to oneself. She believes that when we say yes to ourselves, we are actually saying yes to everyone else because we can only pour from a full cup. By caring for ourselves, we can show up better for others and make a greater impact in the world.Redefining Success on Social Media: Jana shared a valuable tip she implemented on the magazine's Instagram account. She removed all likes and comments because she wanted to focus on opening up conversations and connecting with her audience more deeply. This change relieved her of the pressure to seek approval from others and encouraged people to reach out to her directly with their questions and thoughts.Building Confidence: Jana reflects on the importance of daily working on confidence. She shares that confidence is something she needs to work on continuously.I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have Janet on the show and for her contributions to the magazine. Today's guest is Jannica Olin. You may remember her from a bonus episode back in Season 1. I am so glad to have her back, talking about an exciting opportunity where she will perform her one-woman show, (IM) Perfekt next week in NY City. Jannica is a Swedish born actress and TEDx speaker, and is known as Hollywood's Bald Blonde. I'm super excited to share this interview with you, and to have you learn more about all Jannica is doing to encourage her audience to examine disempowering thoughts about identity, beauty and labels. *More About Jannica - A graduate of The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, Jannica has worked extensively in theatre, film, commercials and music videos in the US, UK, Australia and Sweden. In 2014, Jannica lost all her hair to Alopecia and went on an inward journey of finding her place in the world again, as a woman, and as an actor. What she uncovered through that journey, led to the TEDx Talk; Welcome To My New Normal, and centers around the idea: If I Am Not My Body, Who Am I? - when that which defines you is gone.Jannica's journey with Alopecia also inspired the one-woman show; (IM)PERFEKT which had its world premiere at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in June 2019 to sold-out houses and took home the Producers's Encore Award; the Critics' Choice Award and the Audience Choice Award, as well as a nomination for The Diverse Diva Award by The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival. (IM)PERFEKT has been invited to perform twice at Santa Monica Playhouse, and at the 28th annual Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival. Jannica received a BroadwayWorld Regional Theatre Award nomination in 2020 for Performer of The Decade and Production Of The Decade. In 2017, Jannica was nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal's Women's Summit; an event that recognizes and honors outstanding professional women who have made significant contributions to their professions and the Los Angeles community.Thank you for listening to today's episode. Naomi Grossman joins me today to talk about her journey into acting and we also talk about American Horror Story and about how she got her role as Pepper. Naomi Grossman was a 2018 Primetime Emmy nominee for “Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama” for her role in Ctrl Alt Delete. Best known as the first crossover character, the fan-favorite “Pepper” on FX's hit anthology series, American Horror Story: Asylum & Freak Show, Naomi also appeared as a new character, the Satanist “Samantha Crowe” in the eighth season, Apocalypse, as well as “Rabid Ruth” in the spin-off series, American Horror Stories. Naomi made #5 of IMDb's “Top 10 Breakout Stars” after her STARmeter skyrocketed to #1, making her the most searched in its entire 8 million person database. Huffington Post, The Wrap, Screen Rant, and Syfy all ranked Pepper among “The Best AHS Characters Ever;” MTV named her their “#1 Good Guy;” Uproxx, their “#1 Most Tragic;” Geek Insider, a “Top 5 Most Underrated AHS Performer;” and Entertainment Weekly called her being cast in the role “The Best of 2012.” Fans may also recognize her from cameos in the following feature films: Table for Three, The Chair, 1BR, Sky Sharks, Bite Me, Painkillers, The Lurker, Murder RX, The Portal, Preacher Six, An Accidental Zombie (Named Ted), and Fear, Inc. Naomi prides herself on having paved her own, albeit unorthodox path to mainstream success by writing, producing and starring in several autobiographical solo shows. Her latest, Carnival Knowledge: Love, Lust, and other Human Oddities, enjoyed a twice-extended, sold-out run and rave reviews (“Recommended” by LA Weekly). It was then reprised at the world-famous fringe theatre festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, where it received more critical praise (4 stars: The Scotsman, Broadway Baby, Fringe Review) and a transfer to London's West End (Leicester Square Theatre). It later went on to have a successful run Off-Off Broadway. Naomi's first solo endeavor, Girl in Argentine Landscape, also received critical acclaim (LA Weekly, “Pick of the Week”) and earned her an LA Weekly Theatre Award nomination for best solo performance. Naomi toured with Girl… to Chicago's Single File Festival, the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival, the New York International Fringe Festival, and screened a subtitled video-version on the big screen in Argentina. Her numerous self-penned/produced, comedic shorts have screened at nationwide film festivals and are available for view on comedy sites like FunnyOrDie. Naomi is a theatre graduate of Northwestern University, and a veteran of the legendary Groundlings Sunday Company. https://naomigrossman.net

Communication feels very different when we're working virtually. But even through we're screen-to-screen, we still need to be respectful and have expectations and guidelines around what's appropriate and what's not. We've learned from the last few years that it's easy to feel isolated when we're not in-person. So regular check-ins and conversations is essential. But what does that look like? And how do you communicate with others who don't have their cameras on?On this episode of the podcast, Lorie Reichel-Howe of Conversations in the Workplace is talking about just that. With so many different cultures in every workplace, we need to have these conversations so we can set norms that work for everyone. Lorie shares scripts you can use to start difficult conversations, what it means to host a true training around conversations, and some examples of boundaries that get crossed in both virtual and in-person conversations. What's so interesting about this interview and Lorie's presentation for SHRM is that this may not have been a conversation we had too often prior to the pandemic. It's a critical one now!About Lorie Reichel-Howe:Lorie Reichel-Howe is founder of Conversations in the Workplace. My guest this week is psychologist and author Dr. Ross Greene. Ross encourages parents to let go of unhelpful efforts to help kids who aren't meeting our expectations, such as punishment and other parent-imposed solutions. His approach focuses instead on solving problems collaboratively with our children, using a straightforward three-step method. Topics we explored together included: The importance of the lens through which we view children The belief that “Kids do well if they wanna” vs. “Kids do well if they can” The danger of missing important information about our kids by jumping to adult-imposed consequences The advantages of asking the child what’s getting in the way of meeting an expectation The messages we inadvertently give kids when we don’t take the time to listen What all kids need from their parents Good parenting as knowing and being responsive to the child’s goals, preferences, and skills “Problem behaviors” vs. “Unsolved problems” The paradox of having less control over kids by trying to impose one’s will Ross's Collaborative and Proactive Solutions approach The advantage of solving problems proactively rather than in the heat of the moment How to address parental concerns with your child Collaborating with your child to develop solutions for unsolved problems The downsides of quickly jumping to a “life lesson” with our kids The cost of being busy on having time to solve problems collaboratively Ross mentioned Tony Wagner’s books, which you can check out on Tony's Amazon page. His most popular books include Most Likely to Succeed and The Global Achievement Gap. The book Ross and I focused on is available here: Raising Human Beings; he's written other books, including The Explosive Child and Lost and Found. Greene, PhD, is adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech and adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. Our mission statement is a powerful and positive platform! If we let it be our guide as we move forward, we can make our mark and make a difference in our community and in the industry that is our passion. There is no doubt that we face some challenges. The music industry is inundated with organizations competing for people’s time and support. But, I firmly believe that if we come together in a focused and directed manner, we can harness our strengths and carve out a unique place for LAWIM in a meaningful role and with a sense of purpose. No matter the changes that we may make in the coming months ahead, the principle foundation and philosophy of LAWIM will prevail. I encourage us all to empower ourselves and each other to “find our way” and share the vision…" Other Affiliations: AFTRA, SAG, NARAS, SOS, ASCAP Website: www.leannesummers.com

Her latest, Carnival Knowledge: Love, Lust, and other Human Oddities, enjoyed a twice-extended, sold-out run and rave reviews (“Recommended” by LA Weekly). It was then reprised at the world-famous fringe theatre festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, where it received more critical praise (4 stars: The Scotsman, Broadway Baby, Fringe Review) and a transfer to London’s West End (Leicester Square Theatre). It later went on to have a successful run Off-Off Broadway. Naomi’s first solo endeavor, Girl in Argentine Landscape, also received critical acclaim (LA Weekly, “Pick of the Week”) and earned her an LA Weekly Theatre Award nomination for best solo performance. Naomi toured with Girl to Chicago's Single File Festival, the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival, the New York International Fringe Festival, and screened a subtitled video-version on the big screen in Argentina. A graduate of theatre from Northwestern University, as well as a former member of the esteemed Groundlings Sunday Company, Naomi has written, produced, and starred in numerous comedic shorts under her “Red Meat Entertainment” banner, which have screened at the LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival, the TriMedia Film Festival, the Connecticut Film Festival, the Dam Short Film Festival, the Faux Film Festival, the Los Angeles Comedy Festival, the Wet Your Pants Comedy Film Festival, the Action On Film International Festival, and the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival. Naomi has made cameos in several feature films, namely Table for Three, The Chair, Fear, Inc., Sky Sharks, and Short Stack. This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay! 1. Jovelyn D.
