Walter Reuther's name is forever linked to Detroit, Michigan, where he and his brother Victor built the United Automobile Workers -- the UAW -- into one of the largest and most progressive labor unions in American history. In Wheeling, West Virginia, where he was born on September 1, 1907, Reuther is a hometown boy who made good. Each year for the last eight years, the Wheeling Academy of Law and Science Foundation (WALS) has organized the Reuther-Pollack Labor History Symposium on Labor Day weekend. The annual event also celebrates the life and work of local stogie maker -- and union supporter -- Augustus Pollack. LHT producers Chris Garlock and Patrick Dixon drove out to Wheeling last Friday to cover the symposium, which included presentations by “Shift Happens” author J. Albert Mann, labor journalist Hamilton Nolan, West Virginia Mine Wars Museum co-founder Lou Martin and the Pittsburgh Labor Choir. We'll be sharing audio from those presentations in upcoming shows. West Virginia historian Hal Gorby led a walking tour on Saturday to statues of both Reuther and Pollack in a park along the Ohio River in downtown Wheeling. The noontime walk was interrupted by an intense but thankfully brief mountain thunderstorm, so you'll hear the rain and thunder in the background as we took shelter and the intrepid Dr. Gorby continued his local history talk beneath his oversized umbrella. On this week's Labor History in Two:  the year was 1921. On that day the “Battle of Blair Mountain” raged in Logan County, West Virginia.  Questions, comments, or suggestions are welcome, and to find out how you can be a part of Labor History Today, email us at LaborHistoryToday@gmail.com Labor History Today is produced by the Labor Heritage Foundation and the Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor. @FoundationWals @hamiltonnolan @JAlbertMann @WarsWV @UAW_Archivist @ReutherLibrary #LaborRadioPod #History #WorkingClass #ClassStruggle @GeorgetownKILWP #LaborHistory @UMDMLA @ILLaborHistory @AFLCIO @StrikeHistory #LaborHistory @wrkclasshistory

Sponsored by the IAFF Financial Corporation | www.iaff-fc.com   In the early 1900's in the coal fields of southern West Virginia, miners faced desperate circumstances. Below ground they withstood some of the worst working conditions in America. Above ground they dealt with brutal mine guards and a mine guard system that controlled the politics and economy of the region. Very few people know of the struggle that took place in these mountains, in this place, and the rights that miners fought for between 1900 and 1921.  Mark and Doug sit down with Lou Martin, Secretary of the Board for the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum, and Dave Coker, IAFF Strategic Organizer and Greensboro NC Local 947 president, to tell the story of what these miners went through, how it correlates to today's labor movement and a special fundraiser Dave is hosting to get the word out about this not so well known time in American history.   Visit the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum Website   Dave's Fundraiser

Originally from Los Angeles now resides in Ireland, Spirit Talks With Lou Martin, a Spiritual teacher & Spirit channeller, had three life-changing events which pushed him towards his Spiritual path. At the tender age of 16, Lou Martin was fortunate to spend time wth Krishnamurti, philosopher, speaker & writer, regarded globally as one of the greatest thinkers and religious teachers of all time, learnt that there was much more to life that what he had seen up to date. At 18 years old Lou had found that his father was sadly murdered, this traumatic event opened him up further to more soul searching and the willingness to connect with spirit to heal his ongoing grief. What the Yogi’s call a spontaneous Kundalini Awakening, at 30 years of age during a meditation Lou was showed to him that what he’d been dreaming about, living his life as a spiritual adventure was now possible to him, discovering during this experience, that Spirit is Real. Lou runs a Youtube channel amongst a few social media groups & pages all helping others connect to Spirit and the infinite wisdom of the universe. https://www.facebook.com/groups/353859478007362/ https://www.facebook.com/lightheart2012 http://loumartin.eu/

Lou had three life-changing events which got him on this Spiritual Journey. The first was by sitting with Krishnamurti when he was 16 years old. His presence, (and later his books) were profound and told him there was much more to life than what he’d seen. Secondly, when he was 18, his Father was murdered, which although terrible at the time, his death opened him up to a lot of soul-searching and willingness to connect with Spirit to heal his grief. Thirdly, he had what the Yogi’s call-a spontaneous Kundalini Awakening during meditation before he turned 30, which showed him that what he had been dreaming about- living his life as spiritual adventure-was now possible as Spirit is Real!

Awake 2 Oneness Radio with spiritual intuitive Lou Martin on Friday April 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM EDT. This show will be prerecorded. Lou had a spiritual Kundalini Awakening during meditation in 1987 which changed his life. That opened him up to work with the conscious energy of spirit guides and his higher self. After studying with spiritual teachers for many years he unexpectedly began channeling his own spirit guides. Lou studied spiritual counseling at Agape Center under Rev. Michael Beckwith. He has done hundreds of intuitive and channeled teachings since 2006. He offers classes and healing sessions throughout U.S., Canada and Europe.  He is a Spiritual Life Coach helping others to remember the within them. "Life is a gift. It opens from within!" Lou’s  path is inspired by his own experiences with spirit over 26 years and studying  the works of many like Abraham-Hicks, Gregg Braden, Eckhart Tolle, David Icke, David Wilcock, Louise Hay, Doreen Virtue, and Rev Michael Beckwith to name a few. I had three life-changing events which got me on this Spiritual Journey. I've spent the last 28 years studying Spirit and studying with Spirit through my many teachers, including Lazaris, Orin, Dr Peebles, Bashar, Drunvalo  Melchezadeck, Rev. Michael Beckwith, John Cully.  In 2006 I moved to Ireland and found my Spiritual Home and have been doing groups and sessions in person and online for last 8 years here. I've done hundreds of private readings and channeled groups which are my great joy and passion. I'm honored to share the love and wisdom that i learn from my guides every day. http://universalcorewellness.com/ ________________________ Awakenings With Michele Meiche is Your place for tips and insight to live a more fulfilling life, and your relationships.
