In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Raj and Stu relive the rollercoaster ride that was the 2025 ICC World Test Championship Final, which saw South Africa crowned champions as they defeated Australia by 5 wickets at Lord's. We start the show with our thoughts, feelings and emotions from a game that swung back and forth and up and down across the three and a bit days of cricket. We talk South Africa's reaction, the mood after the first couple of days and the pitch conditions for this showcase event. As the discussion continues, we focus on the standout contributors, such as Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Temba Bavuma, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. We also look ahead to the next WTC cycle to ponder the big questions facing Australia and whether this title will propel South Africa to more and more success over the coming years. We'll be back in your feed very soon with a full preview of the India v England Test series, and then regularly as that series progresses alongside Australia v West Indies and other news. Jonathan Agnew is joined by Sir Alastair Cook, Firdose Moonda and Jim Maxwell after the second day of the World Test Championship Final at Lord's. 14 wickets fell for the second day in a row to leave the contest in the balance. Adam Peacock, Alyssa Healy, and Brad Haddin are back to look ahead to the upcoming WTC Final in England. Haddin names his XI and reveals who he thinks should be opening the batting. Is there a world where Nathan Lyon misses out due to four seamers? Marnus has had two misses in County cricket, and Cam Green is absolutely flying. We look at the IPL, as Hadds' Kings are on a roll heading into the playoffs, while Delhi can't buy a wicket without Mitchell Starc. Plus, we head to Sundries to check out Steve Smith's New York holiday, and Heals gives us an insight into the Australian women's team camp in Darwin next week. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Jamie, Baldy and Stu discuss an eventful week, which saw the return of the IPL but not all its players, the Test cricket retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, squad news galore and some potential candidates emerge for the Black Caps coaching role. We start by talking about the IPL's resumption and the players such as Jos Buttler and Mitchell Starc who have decided not to return or will need to depart for the playoff stages as the international calendar fills up again. Does previous form go out the window? And how will teams manage the disruption? Next we discuss the Test Cricket retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Was it the right time? What legacy have they left? How will they be remembered? Who will replace them? And does their departure put Test cricket in danger? We round out the show by bouncing around a couple of upcoming Test matches - England's first match of the summer, against Zimbabwe, and the World Test Championship Final between Australia and South Africa - as well as the latest reports emerging about the Black Caps' coaching search. We'll be back in your feed next week with more cricket news as the IPL playoff picture takes shape and England take on Zimbabwe. In this episode of the show, Raj, Baldy, Binksy, Jamie and Stu look back at week 4 of IPL 2025, which saw a host of close matches, a few low scores, highlights from Jos Buttler, Mitchell Starc, Yuzvendra Chahal, a debut for 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and plenty more. We start this week by talking about the remarkable debut of Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the Rajasthan Royals. There's talk about what we were doing at 14 and the confidence of youth, but also about what a missed opportunity this week was for RR to get themselves back into the tournament now that Yashasvi Jaiswal is firing. From there, we bounce around from the chances of the Mumbai Indians to go on a winning streak, CSK doubts, super overs and close games, Mitchell Starc yorkers and RCB's Josh Hazlewood tactics. There's also praise for Jos Buttler and the way he's adjusted to life at the Gujarat Titans, excitement from the Auckland studio about wrist-spinners and Yuzvendra Chahal in particular, before we start yelling at clouds about robot dogs, obscure applications of the laws of cricket involving Heinrich Klaasen's wicketkeeping gloves and we update our tournament winner predictions as the tournament passes the halfway mark. Mitchell Starc has been kept his spot despite injury concerns with both Alex Carey and Pat Cummins backing the quick to be on top of his game at the SCG. Former Queensland and Australian fast bowler Carl Rackemann, who played 12 Tests for Australia, told Jason Matthews on 4BC Wide World of Sports, "I'm a big Mitch Stark fan and if he's 100% good to go, that's good news for the Aussies." Australia India Daily, 3rd Test, Brisbane Day 4: God bless the follow-on! What could have been a fairly dull day of cricket between rain delays became a wholesome and delightful one thanks to one simple thing: a team trying to finish fewer than 200 runs behind another team. Whoever came up with that plan, a blessing on your head. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins took on a huge job after Josh Hazlewood went down injured, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja did the spadework, then it was all down to Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep. Two big Tests to talk about on this week's episode of The Cricket Podcast. England were taking on New Zealand in the second of three matches, and they came up good again. Joe Root and Harry Brook scored the runs, prompting a conversation about who really is the world's best player. On the bowling side Gus Atkinson took a hat-trick and Brydon Carse ran riot again. AND! In Australia, the Aussies fought back to level the Border Gavaskar trophy at 1-1. A stinging defeat for India in this one thanks to Mitchell Starc and Travis Head's excellent performances. My thoughts on a riveting first day of the Adelaide Day/Night Test Match as Mitchell Starc provides a career-best moment against the touring side, before Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney grit through the night session against the ever-threatening Bumrah. A magnificent day of Test cricket.
In this episode of the show, Baldy & Stu look back with contrasting emotions at the week (or three days) that was after Australia's convincing win against India and New Zealand once again collapsing against England. We start the show on a happy note for Baldy by discussing a turnaround in fortunes for Australia during the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. Scott Boland picked up where Josh Hazlewood left off, Mitchell Starc's radar was on from ball one and Pat Cummins also played his part in a dominant performance from the Aussie quicks. We also saw valuable contributions from Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney, a hundred from Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy continue to look very comfortable at Test level. There's also discussion about why batters are struggling so much at the moment when the ball moves around, and the topsy-turvy nature of Test cricket results all over the world. In the second half of the show, it was rinse and repeat for England as Harry Brook and then Brydon Carse took centre stage again and the Black Caps crumbled under the pressure. In fact, England were so dominant we didn't even mention that Gus Atkinson took a hat-trick! There's praise for Joe Root, Jacob Bethell & Nathan Smith, Tom Blundell's return to form, a conversation about England winning the tactical battle, and unfortunately more selection questions for New Zealand with Tim Southee and Devon Conway in particular under the spotlight. We'll be back in your feed again next week with more news and views from both these exciting series. Australia India Daily, 2nd Test, Adelaide Day 1: Goodness. Australia came into this game with an advantage in pink-ball cricket, and they needed somebody to take it. Well, Mitchell Starc did. But that was only half of the equation. Could the Aussies withstand Bumrah with the ball? Well, kinda. In this episode of the show, we look back at the latest four games of the Super 8 stage at the Men's T20 World Cup, which saw India all but book a semi-final berth while all other sides fight for their tournament lives. We start the show by discussing Afghanistan's historic win against Australia. Captain Cummins got another hat trick, but it was first Gurbaz and Ibrahim and then Gulbadin who flexed their muscle and secured a famous victory. Was it a mistake to leave out Mitchell Starc? And could this win propel Afghanistan all the way to the title? From there we move to India's game against Bangladesh, which resulted in a fairly comfortable win and India putting one foot in the next round. There were positive signs for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shivam Dube, wickets for Kuldeep Yadav and even positives for Bangladesh to take from the performance of Rishad Hossain throughout this tournament. Third up in our match review was South Africa's win against England. Quinton de Kock looked like he was batting on a different pitch than everyone else, but it was a game that went right down to the wire and looked like it could go either way when Ottniel Baartman was bowling full tosses and Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook were hitting them over the rope. In the fourth and final game covered, we discuss the impact of the West Indies' big win against the USA, and how it has set up a potential knockout game against South Africa in the final round of the Super 8. There's also praise for both Shai Hope and Darren Sammy as this comprehensive victory rounds out the show. We are planning to record regularly throughout the next phases of the tournament, so expect to be in your feed every few days through to the final match - our next show will be a preview of the semi-finals, on Tuesday night NZ time. Season 16, Episode 17: India, the UK and the USA are all heading towards national elections, in the same year that the USA, England and India will all be prominent in cricket, starting with the gathering for the T20 World Cup. For that to arrive, the IPL had to finish, after a campaign as long as any election, and this time Mitchell Starc went from first gear to seventh with exactly the right timing, as did Team USA to down a Full Member nation in a series for the first time. Meanwhile, the ICC still has mates with a (digital video of a) bridge to sell you. It may be touted as the big bucks battle, read Rs 20.50 crore vs Rs 24.75 crore. But more than Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, the IPL 2024 final between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders - a repeat of top two teams yet again clashing twice in IPL Playoffs - will possibly be decided on the tactics employed by the captains. Will Shreyas Iyer lift his first IPL trophy? Or will Pat Cummins lift his second coveted title on Indian soil in six months? Let's preview the IPL 2024 final, with Amol Karhadkar, The Hindu's sports journalist, joining Sports Katta's Amol Gokhale and Aditya Joshi.
Mitchell Starc was in form early for Kolkata Knight Riders as he took 3 wickets in his first 3 overs to blow Sunrisers Hyderabad's top order away. After posting a modest total, SRH were crushed as KKR marched into the IPL 2024 final. Season 2, Ep 2: Reloading lost episodes from the early Final Word. In 2015, the deadest WACA track in history made Mitchell Johnson retire on the spot. Dave Warner belted a million while wearing a WWII moustache, then Ross Taylor went back before WWI to take down the ancient record of Reginald Tip Foster. Kane Williamson was perfect, Brian Lara was in touch with Usman Khawaja, and if Mitchell Starc really bowled 161 kilometres an hour, does that mean Tim Southee clocked 146? Also... oh Christ... of course they announced bringing back Shaun Marsh. This season was originally recorded for the ABC. On this episode of The Cricket Podcast we continue with our IPL 2024 Team Previews. This episode is a big one, featuring three of the biggest franchises in the Indian Premier League: Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. Are any of them contenders for this year's IPL title. Chennai Super Kings go into this year after winning the tournament last year. MS Dhoni is still in charge and with players like Jadeja, Chahar, Moeen Ali, the Dube and more backing him up they look like they could be a threat to win the IPL again. Can they secure another championship or might this be one tournament to far for the legendary Dhoni? Royal Challengers Bangalore made a big trade before the auction, picking up Cameron Green to bolster their batting. Along with the acquisition of Alzarri Joseph they seem like they could have improved for this year's IPL. However, there are weaknesses in other areas of the team and their bowling, in particular, looks like it could come under pressure. Will RCB be able to pull it together and finally deliver Virat Kohli the title he wants? Finally we talk Kolkata Knight Riders. They feature an exciting batting line up with Rinku Singh, Andre Russell and now Phil Salt providing serious firepower to their batting card. Backed up by a spin trio lead by Narine they could be a real handful with the ball too, especially if we see Mitchell Starc hit his stride. Could they be the dark horses for the IPL title? New Zealand v Australia, Christchurch Day 1: Win the toss and bowl. It is becoming a Pat Cummins signature, and the move looked pretty good with Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc to back him up. But New Zealand are having a Hot Matt Henry Summer, and he had something to say as well. World Cup Daily 2023, Day 12: Two World Cup finals have involved this pairing, and two World Cup campaigns this year depended heavily on this result. Both teams were winless heading into it, and Kusal Perera joined with Pathum Nissanka to give Sri Lanka a dominant start, before Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc made their presence felt after Pat Cummins and David Warner opened things up. Then it was down to Dilshan Madushanka in a blistering new-ball spell - would it be enough?
