Un 31 de agosto de 1795 fallecía en Londres François-André Danican, conocido como Philidor, compositor del clasicismo francés, quien es recordado por haber sido considerado el ajedrecista europeo más notable de su tiempo. Proveniente de una familia de larga tradición músical en la corte francesa, en 1731, con seis años de edad, André entró a formar parte del coro de Luis XV, donde aprendió a jugar al ajedrez en los ratos de inactividad viendo jugar a los demás músicos. Hacia 1740 siendo visitante habitual del café de la Régence conoció a Kermur de Legal, mejor jugador de la época, quien le tomo como alumno, poco tiempo después superó a su maestro y se convirtió en el mejor jugador conocido. Como músico, durante nueve años fue administrador de la Ópera Cómica, en la que se estrenaron varias de sus obras. Produjo veintiuna comedias musicales y una opera, pero cuando sintió que estaba siendo sobrepasado por otros compositores se centró en su carrera ajedrecística. En 1749 publicó "El análisis del juego del ajedrez", obra que encierra todos los principios básicos de su concepción del ajedrez y por primera vez introduce comentarios sobre cómo conducirse en el medio juego. Hoy escucharemos de este músico y ajedrecista la primera parte de su Sinfonía 1 en Sol menor de su obra El arte de la modulación, interpretado por el ensamble Les Délices.

In addition to his day job, in which he maintains a senior leadership role at Shell Oil, FM Michiel Abeln is a chess trainer and a chess journalist. Late this year, he and Quality Chess Publishing released his book, The Anand Files: The World Championship Story 2008-2012. From “America’s Got Talent” in 2011 to the final season of “American Idol” in 2016 – after auditioning for the latter show six times – this Tampa, Florida-based singer, songwriter, guitar player just released her album at the end of last week, having self-produced the ten-song CD. Among other venues, she performs regularly with her band at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and also is a DJ (did an NHL party) and model (did a Nike ad). Plus, she even did the design work for the cover of her CD.
