In this week's episode the crew gets together to discuss #Stayclose, a #Netflix original #movie. Megan Pierce (Cush Jumbo) heads out for her hen night with her friends and on her way back she receives a card addressed to ‘Cassie' and some champagne to congratulate her. The next day while she's at her daughter's tennis tournament, she catches a glimpse of someone from her past. That person is Lorraine Griggs (Sarah Parish), who knew Megan back when she used to go by the name ‘Cassie' and worked as an exotic dancer at a club called Vipers. She tells Megan that a dangerous customer from her past, Stewart Green, has returned 17 years after he went missing. Megan had run away back then to start a new life, something she was successful in doing. Del Flynn (Ross Boatman) enlists the help of the police when his son, Carlton (Connor Calland) goes missing on the night of the carnival. Detective Michael Broome (James Nesbitt) and detective Erin Cartwright (Jo Joyner) are put on the case by their superior, Brian Goldberg (Jack Shalloo). Broome had also worked on the case of Stewart Green's disappearance all those years ago, and a light goes on in his head when he realizes that Carlton disappeared in the same area as Green on the exact same date. He is convinced that the two might be connected even though he does not have a lot of evidence. Ray Levine (Richard Armitage) is a photographer who does low-level gigs to pay the bills. He's headed back to his car after one such gig when a hooded figure hits him on the back of the head and steals his camera. Later on, when he checks on the photos that he had back up, he finds some dark pictures taken in the ruins near Vipers with one of them showing Carlton Flynn. Now, he and his administration are being attacked for a covid cover up. They are accused of under reporting the number of nursing home deaths. You probably know that his administration sent covid positive patients to the nursing homes. What you probably don't know… the very day that he sent out that memo insisting this would be the new policy, a whistle blower called Mark Levin's radio show to provide warning. And supposedly, what we are being told, is that while the nursing home deaths exploded, his office began counting many of those nursing home deaths as hospital deaths. Why would they change the reporting on where the deaths came from? If this is true and it did happen, one can only guess it was to make it look like his March 2020 decision to send COVID positive patients into nursing homes wasn't nearly as deadly. Let's be honest. In the middle of a pandemic, it is hard to release a book about how great of a job you are doing, if your policies are leading to the deaths of your constituents. That is right. While people were dying, Coumo was patting himself on the back writing a book about his pandemic response. He told the press his administration didn't have the time to properly plan for vaccine distribution, but he had time for a book. He had time to accept an Emmy for his news conferences. Let's not forget that. And while all of these accusations, if true, speak to his inability to be leader… it is the recent allegations attacking his personal actions that are more disturbing. Over time we will get more information on the sexual harassment allegations brought against Coumo by his former economic advisor Lyndsey Boylan. If they are true… then my earlier assessment is accurate, he is a scum bag. Since he now, could be, joining the likes of Pill Cosby and Harvey the rapist Weinstein, maybe he will do more softball interviews with his brother Chris from prison. Thanks for joining.
