Host: Michal Charles aka MMC13 Guest: Jonathan Schwartz In this episode of Sobertown Podcast, host Michal interviews Jonathan Schwartz, former Hollywood financial advisor turned addiction advocate and sober warrior. Jonathan shares his journey from managing the wealth of celebrities like Beyoncé, Linkin Park and Alanis Morissette to battling his own addictions with gambling and drugs, which led to embezzlement of millions of dollars and eventual imprisonment. He discusses his childhood trauma, the impact of addiction on his life, and his path to redemption through recovery. Now a licensed therapist, Jonathan focuses on helping others overcome addiction by connecting with their emotions and resolving past traumas. He emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, accountability, and community support in achieving and maintaining sobriety. Jonathan Todd Schwartz, once a towering figure in Hollywood's elite financial circles, lived a life that many could only dream of. As a power entertainment business manager at GSO Business Management, Schwartz was entrusted with managing the wealth of some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Alanis Morissette, Linkin Park, Halsey, and Gwyneth Paltrow. His reputation as one of Hollywood's most "trusted" financial advisors earned him the moniker "diva whisperer," a reflection of his ability to cater to the unique needs of his high-profile clients. However, beneath the surface of this seemingly perfect life, Schwartz was hiding a dark secret. Consumed by a monstrous drug habit and an uncontrollable gambling addiction, Schwartz began to embezzle millions from his clients to fund his destructive lifestyle. His double life was a carefully constructed house of cards, built on lies and deceit, which ultimately came crashing down in 2016 when Alanis Morissette discovered that Schwartz had stolen over $4.7 million from her accounts. The fallout was swift and brutal. Schwartz's crimes were exposed, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction. The once-celebrated financial guru was now a disgraced criminal, reviled by the very industry that once revered him. His actions not only ruined his own life but also brought significant financial losses and reputational damage to GSO Business Management. But Schwartz's story doesn't end with his fall from grace. Since his release from prison in 2020, Schwartz has embarked on a journey of redemption. Sober and a co-chair of his local Gambler's Anonymous, he is determined to make amends for his past wrongdoings. Schwartz is now dedicated to proving that he is no longer the "defrauding monster" he once was, and is desperate to clear his name, particularly with his ex-wife and children, who continue to harbor doubts about his sincerity. Schwartz's life is a tale of extremes— from the heights of Hollywood success to the depths of criminal infamy. It raises the question: Can Jonathan truly change, or is this just another act in a long-running con? Schwartz's story is a compelling exploration of human nature, redemption, and the thin line between good and evil. In his own words, Schwartz acknowledges his flaws and the damage he has caused, but he remains committed to telling his story, hoping that it will serve as a cautionary tale for others and perhaps, one day, lead to his own redemption. His story is a modern-day parable, echoing the themes of the latest viral scammer tales like Inventing Anna, Tinder Swindler, and Bad Vegan—a once-in-a- lifetime narrative that promises to captivate and dominate public consciousness. Interview with Vanbur - In this episode of Sync Music Matters I'm chatting to Vanbur aka Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish. We'll be chatting about their work on One Day, the Netflix adaptation of the novel by David Nichols which interestingly, seems to resemble their story. We'll also be digging into their creative process, the power of collaborating and the liberating power of restricting yourself creatively. We also chat Jaffa cakes... again! Vanbur is the artist project of composers Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish. Their sound can best be described as ethereal vocals floating on a bed of contemporary and haunting cinematic score. They recently worked alongside Anne Nikitin on the score for Netflix's One Day and also had a number of their Vanbur tracks featured as part of the soundtrack. Independently they've worked on shows like the long running comedy drama series Brassic, Netflix's true crime show American Nightmare, Tinder Swindler and Jimmy Saville: A british Horror Story They are also working on a new album due out at the end of 2025. On this episode of Wife of Crime I'm telling Russ the controversial case of Gable Tostee and Warriena Wright. In 2014 Warriena was visiting Gold Coast for her friend's wedding. She decided to get on Tinder and she matched with a handsome 28 year old local named Gable Tostee. Their date started off pretty typical but sadly hours later it would end in tragedy. The case seemed open and shut at first but as it unfolded it sparked a lot of controversy among the public leaving many to question, was this just a terrible accident or was this murder? Here they kick off a new batch of episodes devoted to con artists getting their just deserts. Welcome to Double Identity Month. Open wide, bastards! Hell hath no fury like a woman conned. That's certainly the case in THE TINDLER SWINDLER, a popular Netflix documentary that forces us to answer the question, if a handsome stranger invited us to hop on a private jet to Bulgaria at the end of our first coffee date, would we go? By the end of this delicious serving, Eric coins a new phrase, “Don't **ck with Dutch women!” Listen to find out why.

Financial fraud is something we hear about ALL the time. It feels like there's a new headline about losses stemming from a hack at a financial institution constantly, and we've all seen shows like The Tinder Swindler where scams of individual consumers can have huge consequences. The problem with most fraud prevention? It's backward-looking. By the time you solve one problem, criminals have found a new way to steal your money. We sat down with Greenway Solutions, a firm working to revolutionize the space not only for financial institutions, but also for their customers, via the use of "red teams". These red teams can at times sound like complex spy operations --- yet at other times are deceptively simple in their approach. We talk about the (terrifying!) magnitude of the financial fraud landscape, how it is changing in the face of AI and deepfakes, and some of the most surprising ways that fraudsters are staying ahead of conventional security measures. In 2015, a young California couple, Aaron Quinn and Denise Huskins, was awakened by a home invasion, drugged, and blindfolded; Denise was kidnapped. But that isn't the only disturbing horror at the heart of the harrowing Netflix docuseries “American Nightmare”. Sensitively and imaginatively directed by Felicity Morris and Bernadette Higgins (“The Tinder Swindler”), this true crime drama focuses as much on the local police department's disturbing disregard for the couple, and for the facts of the case, as it does on the original crimes. Joining Ken on the pod, Felicity and Bernadette describe how their approach to “The Tinder Swindler” and “American Nightmare” avoids the tropes and traps of the standard true crime formula, resulting in documentaries that feature the victims as the primary storytellers. From their choice of lighting and interview staging, to how the series is structured, every element of the production supports the directors' vision and gives power back to Aaron and Denise — one more step in the couple's journey to awaken from their American nightmare. “American Nightmare” is streaming on Netflix. The Netflix documentary 'The Tinder Swindler' is a mind-boggling case of so-called 'romance fraud' in which a charming, handsome - and apparently very rich - man meets women on a dating app - gets them to fall in love with him - and then cons them out of lots of money. Cecilie Fjellhøy is the Norwegian woman at the centre of the documentary whose life was torn apart by the actions of a conman. A survivor of romance fraud on a grand scale, she now advocates for the rights of, and support for, others who find themselves in similar grim circumstances. We also hear from Sean Doyle, who works at the World Economic Forum's Centre for Cybersecurity, on just how widespread romance fraud really is, why it's a multinational, multi-billion form of cyber crime, and what is being done to combat it. Welcome back as our WTF! Women Talk Finance hosts, Candace and Jackie, present shocking financial crimes. Our hosts, who love true crime so much they have been inspired to delve into true financial crime. In today's episode, Candace takes us back to the summer of 1980's and to Lake Tahoe, specifically to Harvey's Resort Hotel in South Lake Tahoe, NV. Several men masqueraded as photocopier deliverers and were able to plant an elaborately booby-trapped bomb containing 1,000 pounds (450 kg) of dynamite within the front offices of Harvey's Resort Hotel. Candace walks us through this wacky escapade of our inept true-crime criminals. Then Jackie brings us a historical crime from the 1700's, not only that we have a female fraudster (nicknamed “Golden Booze”) at the heart of our story. Beware! Confidence scams have been around for a long time, and they are STILL happening! While we take a lighthearted look at crimes from the past, we understand crimes like these are serious. For a good example, take a look at this keynote address from Ayleen Charlotte titled; “Breaking Down the Shame and Taboo of Fraud.” Ayleen was the subject of the 2022 Netflix documentary, “The Tinder Swindler,” watched by people across 200 countries around the world. Thanks for listening to WTF Women Talk Finance-Financial Crimes Part 2!

Investigative journalist Erlend Ofte Arntsen of Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang joins the podcast to discuss his work on the Tinder Swindler story, adapted into a Netflix documentary. Erlend and his colleagues broke the story of Shimon Hayut, an Israeli con man who found women on the dating app, impressed them with private jets and bodyguards, concocted stories about being in great personal danger and then drained their bank accounts and left them with extraordinary credit card debt. This episode originally aired on February 15, 2022.
Embark on a journey through the twisted narrative of Simon Hayut, a man who donned the alias Simon Leviev to execute a series of heart-wrenching swindles. My exploration into the life of the Tinder Swindler reveals the stark realities of love's digital battleground, where charming facades mask fraudulent intentions. As your guide, Rhonda, I'll bring you face-to-face with the sinister charm and faux opulence that led numerous women down a path of emotional and financial despair. You'll gain invaluable insights into the red flags that fluttered unnoticed in the whirlwind of romance and the critical importance of trusting your gut instinct. This episode doesn't just recollect tales of deceit; it serves as a wake-up call to the veiled dangers within the realm of online dating. Delving into the psyche of a modern-day Casanova, we dissect the manipulative prowess that blurred the lines between conman and victim, making a mockery of the justice system's attempts to keep pace with emotional fraud. Through the heartaches of those ensnared by Hayut's grandiose lies, we uncover a powerful narrative of resilience, sending out an urgent plea for vigilance and wisdom in our pursuit of love amid the enchanting yet perilous world of virtual courtship.Support the showhttps://chat.openai.com/g/g-8E47AuJfB-life-points-assistanthttps://FaceBook.com/Lifepointswithronda1https://youtube.com/@lifepointswithronda2968https://TikTok.com/@lifepointswithrondahttps://Instagram.com/@lifepointswithrondahttps://Patreon.com/@lifepointswithrondahttps://Lifepointswithronda.com

On today's episode, Wes sits down with a woman who has dedicated her life to finding ways to protect retirement assets. As the director of victim support for the AARP Fraud Watch Network, Amy Nofziger has nearly two decades of experience in fraud prevention and victim support. A certified fraud examiner, she's worked with the Wall Street Journal, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and Dr. Phil, among others, to shed light on consumer exploitation. The heinous nature of fraudsters is matched only by their cunning methods. Amy's seen everything from business impersonators to LinkedIn scams to Crypto gift cards. There was even a guy named the Tinder Swindler who used romance to con unsuspecting women. Amy says fraud happens to people of all ages, but because older folks tend to have more money, they are bigger targets. $8.8 billion was reported lost last year, and due to underreporting, that number might be ten to twenty times higher. Sadly, most people never see their money again. Our best weapon to protect our finances is awareness. Learn from Amy so you can protect yourself and your loved ones. Learn more about your ad choices.
