Welcome to another episode of Reckless A-Talk, our TTRPG interview show where we sit down with some of our favorite writers, players, GMs, and streamers to get to know a little bit more about what makes them who they are.I am as always your host GM Nathan I use he/him pronouns, and this week we got to talk to the amazing game designer and artistic person in general Viditya Voleti. He is a game design educator who has been releasing games for several years now as both a prolific indie designer and freelancer for places like Paizo, Possum Creek Games, Evil Hat Productions, and tons more.He is also a very fun, funny, and thoughtful former art student whose preferred genre of game appears to be “all of them.”All this wrapped up into a really fascinating and inspirational and aspirational conversation about learning to fail, knowing who you are making games for, the concept of artistic studies in game design, and I think most crucially the attitude that when you make something, you're always taking a step forward. His latest game, A Land Once Magic, is a worldbuilding deck and conversation piece that is crowdfunding right now.We have links to the crowdfunder and all the other things Viditya and I talk about in the show notes. Jay & Grub from Possum Creek Games are back! I'm super stoked to have my first repeat guests on the show from all the way back in episode 13. If you are not familiar with Possum Creek Games, then you might have heard of a little game called Wanderhome that Kickstarted during the height of Covid. I interviewed Jay & Grub both on my blog and on this show about Wanderhome, and now, today, we are talking about their latest game, Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast. Yazaeba's just came out on pdf and with their super cool virtual tabletop, One More Multiverse, so it was pretty fitting to bring them back on to talk about how the last two years have gone. If you've been with the show for a while, you know that I love these two so much and have had a lot of guests from Possum Creek over the last two years. This episode was edited by Sam Atkinson.Find Possum Creek Games at:WebsiteYazeba's OnlineWanderhomePossum Creek TwitterJay TwitterRuby TwitterPossum Creek PatreonFind Roll Play Grow:Show PagePatreonLightheart Adventures WebsiteLightheart TwitterLightheart InstagramSupport the show

Today, we're sharing an interview with Jay Dragon and Mercedes Acosta, two of the developers, designers, and writers behind the brand new TRPG Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast which, as of today, is officially available to support on Indiegogo! We had a really lovely conversation about sanctuary, refuge, transgender characterization, seeing elements of yourself reflected back at you in your writing, twitter beef, drama in leftist milieus, and the joy of finding community together. I'd strongly encourage you to visit the campaign website and support their game. I've had a peak behind-the-scenes and think Yazeba's is truly something special. Ben, Craig, & Special Guest Terry attempt to get to grips with the “pastoral fantasy” RPG Wanderhome, and probably succeed, in our first approximate actual play episode. Wanderhome, by Jay Dragon, can be purchased from Possum Creek Games. Wanderhome is a pastoral fantasy role-playing game about traveling animal-folk, the world they inhabit, and the way […]
Today's guest is Aster, an incredibly talented game and comic artist from Mexico City. I found Aster by looking for an artist to draw my dog, Bowser as a Ranger in a few pieces. As you may or may not know, I am working towards opening an Etsy shop soon for D&D-themed pet merch like bandanas, bowties, and collars. I decided I wanted Bowser to be my mascot, and I needed someone who could draw him as a D&D character. Ruby from Possum Creek Games recommended Aster to me, and I fell in love with his art style. Three AMAZINGLY adorable pieces later, I am a fan of Aster for life. Aster tells the wild journey he's gone through: everything from an abusive boss at 17 to working on Cartoon Network game animation to comics and commission work. Aster is one of the artists working with Possum Creek Games, and you can see his work in the upcoming Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast, which we heard about in last week's episode. We discuss balancing full-time work with freelance commissions, finding clients, finding what art mediums make you happy, and so much more. I am in such awe of Aster, and I cannot wait for you to hear about his journey. If this is your first time tuning in to Roll Play Grow, welcome. This podcast is a part of Lightheart Adventures, which is a small company I co-founded with my husband. We offer a weekly blog on our website where you'll find tips for running games, free monthly one-shot adventures, product reviews, and more. You'll find that blog at lightheartadventures.com. Brenton also creates beautiful dungeon maps, both on DM's Guild and on a commission basis. He is currently working on the third in a series of map packs for Wild Beyond the Witchlight. There will be 5 packs total, one for every chapter, and they offer a look at some additional locations in the adventure. You can find all of those by going to DM's Guild and searching for Lightheart Adventures as the author, or by going to lightheartadventures.com/shop to find all of our DM's Guild and DriveThruRPG publications in one spot. Some other ways you can support us and this show are by subscribing to the show and leaving a review. M is a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed getting to know zer more. If this is your first time tuning in to Roll Play Grow, welcome. This podcast is a part of Lightheart Adventures, which is a small company I co-founded with my husband. Our guest today is a very talented indie ttrpg designer with over 40 titles on itch.io: Jamila R. Nedjadi. He also has a Kickstarter for the second edition of Our Haunt that just launched a few days ago through a partnership they have with Possum Creek Games. Our conversation covered everything from all of the lessons they've learned and how they've refined processes over the last few years, to digging into how he's updating Our Haunt to a new version for this Kickstarter. Jammi is incredibly talented and has a lot of wisdom to offer about game design. We'll have a few more interviews in the coming months with folks who've been working with Possum Creek Games, and I know you'll enjoy all of them. If you aren't familiar with this company, you might recognize game titles such as Wanderhome or Sleepaway. I interviewed Jay Dragon and Ruby Lavin about founding Possum Creek back in episode 13, so if you're interested in learning more, I'd recommend checking out that episode after you listen to this one!Follow us on Twitter at LightheartADV to keep up with all our map pack releases, and you can find all of our map packs by either going to DMsguild.com and searching for Lightheart Adventures as the author, or you can go to lightheartadventures.com/shop to find all our DM's Guild and DrivethruRPG publications in one spot. Some other ways you can support me and this show are via our Patreon page, which has a few different tracks depending on whether you'd like maps and adventures or tailored content for this podcast, including contributing questions for upcoming guests, a spotlight on our website and even a shoutout on this podcast. I recently sat down with Jay Dragon, lead designer behind Possum Creek Games and developer of the new tabletop roleplaying game, Wanderhome. The two of us proceeded to have quite a lovely conversation that I'm so excited to share with you today. Jay is wonderful and the insight, passion, and heart Jay brought to this dialogue was beautiful to behold. Jay and I talk a lot about the mechanics behind Wanderhome, discuss the “GM agnostic” systems of Wanderhome, get into the weeds of the different philosophies behind game design, discuss the pastoral, gentle adventures of player-characters in the world of Hæth, and speak at length about queerness in the tabletop gaming space. I cannot recommend Wanderhome enough, regardless of whether you're a veteran TRPG player or a total novice! Visit Possum Creek Games' website and pick up a copy of Wanderhome today! Hello & welcome to Episode 13 of Roll Play Grow, the podcast for tabletop entrepreneurs, creators, and fans. I am Courtney Stover of Lightheart Adventures, and in this podcast, we talk to the creators behind the brands in the tabletop role play gaming space about who they are and how they are turning their passion for gaming into a career. I have been looking forward to today's interview for SO long. Last fall, we funded a Kickstarter that was WILDLY successful for a little game called Wanderhome, and I actually did a blog interview with the two people spearheading the project. I'll link that blog post in the show notes, and if you want to learn more about Wanderhome, I highly recommend you go check that post out. Check out the blog interview here! But today, I got to talk to those same two wonder people, Jay Dragon and Ruby Lavin about so many things. We talked about all the logistics of running a successful Kickstarter, everything they've been doing since the campaign ended like setting up Possum Creek Games as a LLC, all of the logistics they've had to manage with artists, layout, printers, merch fulfillment, setting up on online store--y'all there is a gold mine of information in this episode, and also, they are just SO FUN. I know that y'all are going to love learning from the two of them. I know this episode is a bit longer than what I normally strive for, but again, it was just such a good conversation, I couldn't cut it off early. Before we jump into today's episode, it's business time. First up, we do have a Patreon for Lightheart Adventures and Roll Play Grow. It's a pretty cool place, and you have options on whether you'd like to follow the adventurer track, which will get you maps and adventures, or the merchant track, which gets you some fun bonuses around this podcast. If Patreon isn't your jam, you can also support the show by subscribing, sharing with your friends and leaving a review! Reviews are super important for this show to be able to grow, so if you've been hanging out and you like what you're hearing, please drop me a review on your podcast platform of choice.
