For this episode of Disrupt, Home Health Care News caught up with Randy Klein, the CEO of Vesta Healthcare. During the conversation, Klein walks listeners through Vesta's unique business model, including what Klein felt was missing in the market before Vesta Healthcare appeared on the scene.
JOAN ROSS SORKIN is a playwright, musical theatre bookwriter and lyricist, opera librettist, and screenwriter. Her two most current musical projects are Black Swan Blues with Randy Klein, and Bordello with Barbara Bellman and Emiliano Messiez. Black Swan Blues had a staged reading in October, 2022 as part of The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series, and Bordello is scheduled to have the same in December, 2023. Joan's family musicals include Dandelion, with Mary Liz McNamara, with its world premiere at Playhouse on Park, W. Hartford, CT in April, 2023, and the award-winning Isabelle and The Pretty Ugly Spell with Steven Fisher with productions at The Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre, Coral Gables, FL (Winner, National Children's Theatre Award), NYMF (Outstanding New Family Musical), and Vital Theatre; and Go Green! Prince Charming's Quest for Love and Ecology in NYC with Mary Feinsinger, presented in the very first New York Children's Theater Festival. Randy Klein is a multi-award-winning composer, pianist, record producer, author and music educator. He is the composer of For My People, a song cycle featuring the poetry of American author, Margaret Walker. For My People was featured at the Furious Flower Poetry Festival at James Madison University and the University of Kansas. The music premiere of the renowned poem by Margaret Walker ‘For My People' was April 2, 2011 at the Forbes Center for the Arts, James Madison University, VA. His compositions, Facing It and Dear John, Dear Coltrane, based on the poetry of Yusef Komunyakaa and Michael Harper premiered at the 2014 Furious Flower Poetry Conference featuring the combined James Madison University and Morgan State Chorales. His musical, Black Swan Blues, in collaboration with Joan Ross Sorkin, bookwriter and lyricist, inspired by the ballet “Swan Lake,”. Black Swan Blues explores white privilege and racism in America in the South in the early 1960's. Set in New Orleans, a rich, idealistic journalist and a poor, vulnerable blues singer's true love is challenged when secrets from their tangled past involving race, murder and the Ku Klux Klan are revealed. Only through the magic of voodoo do they find eternal love. The score is timeless and contemporary evoking the period.
Walking into Whiskers Holistic Pet store in 1992 transformed my understanding of pet food and eventually (2005) my career trajectory. I had no preconceived notions of what was good or bad in pet food - there was NO internet - no NOISE from brands and bloggers and influencers. It was me, a type 1 diabetic who understood the impact of food on EVERY aspect of my life, and my ex-husband who as a singer, claimed that everything he consumed impacted the condition of his voice so bringing home a pet from the shelter and having been handed a bag of Iams kibble seemed a bit odd to me - I didn't understand how an obligate carnivore could digest and be 'ok' eating cereal (I added chicken broth to the kibble the first week because I really thought it was meant to be moistened and made into mush - I very quickly switched to Pet Guard and Halo canned food - Remember those brands?;) I am grateful to Randy & Phil Klein for being innovators in the field of holistic pet nutrition and retail. As they continue to help thousands of pet owners/pet parents with education and guidance every single day, we, pet owners, distributors, and brands should support Whiskers so that they continue on this amazing path. NYC and its boroughs are full of stores but very few, can compete with the knowledge and support Randy & Phil have brought to pet owners... *The views, information, or opinions expressed during The Petropolist podcast or youtube video series are solely those of the individuals involved and do not necessarily represent those of the host or the employees of The Petropolist. A few updates: 1st meeting of The Indy Pet Community Advisory Group (NO THERE IS NO WEBSITE for a reason;) is going to take place in late September. If you are going to Super Zoo and want to find out about the Indy Pet Community Advisory group (or my new line of Catazztic Cat treats) send me a note and let's connect and make sure you are subscribed to THE PETROPOLIST PODCAST because you will want to get a reminder when my next episode (#83) is out - My guest will be with Randy Klein, CEO of Whiskers holistic pet store in NYC which has been around since before some of you were even a speck in your parents' eyes. We all know how talented the pet food sector is when it comes to making shit up to create the perception of being do-gooders or creating a "new & improved pet industry sustainable model" without really doing much different than they have been doing for the last 20 to 40 years. As a collective, pet food manufacturers have created layers to insulate their bad behavior, like new organizations that make it seem like they're recycling the big bad unrecyclable kibble bags or that they need to be applauded for their efforts in being sustainable through the use of peanut shells as a source of fiber or their use of dead or diseased animals that suffered and didn't quite make it off the crammed truck to their proper slaughter session...yeah a little bit of greenwashing takes those big brands a long way financially and perhaps we shouldn't forget that they science the shit out of it all. These very companies are incredibly active in pursuing, learning, and making investments in companies and products that are innovative and may one day be their competition or their goldmine. This episode is kinda sorta about asking ourselves the question: How do we feed our pets without harming the environment and other animals? Are lab-grown meats the answer or will The Big AG Bullies and Lobbies continue to work their magic and keep Americans in the Dark using their might with political and media influence? Check out Nancy F. Huehnergarth's article I linked here. My guest today is SCIENTIST, Shannon Falconer. Shannon holds a Master's degree in Biochemistry, a Ph.D. in Chemical Biology, and worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at Stanford University prior to co-founding Because Animals in 2016 Will the answer to these problems be Because, Animals.? god I hope so!!! *The views, information, or opinions expressed during The Petropolist podcast or youtube video series are solely those of the individuals involved and do not necessarily represent those of the host or the employees of The Petropolist. The pandemic forced us to confront many previously unacknowledged societal issues, including the lack of infrastructure we have to support those who need care and those who give it. As COVID-19 deaths near one million in America, the time has come to address the caregiving crisis in this country. There are nearly 50 million unpaid family caregivers and 4.5 million paid home care aides in America, yet they remain largely invisible. Andy explores that dichotomy with Ai-jen Poo, Executive Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Caring Across Generations, and Randy Klein, CEO of Vesta Healthcare. They discuss why this work is historically undervalued and what we can all do to help change that. Plus, how to plan for the care you will likely need or give in your life, and what Build Back Better could do to support caregivers. Keep up with Andy on Twitter @ASlavitt and Instagram @andyslavitt. The ways that we manage (or fail to manage) our impacts on the land have left many rivers and creeks without enough water year-round to sustain fish and other wildlife. Randy Klein is a hydrologist who has studied North Coast streams for over 40 years. His research on flooding, erosion, and sediment dynamics in Redwood National Park helped identify the best ways to manage heavily-logged watersheds for stream health. More recently, he has focused on the solutions to low summer flows on the Mattole River in Southern Humboldt.

9 May 2011 Christian Reilly, Randy Klein. Voice of Americans! We resume after a three week break for Bank Holidays - who knew when we accepted this time slot we would be able to have the Mondays off so often? Not that we had much choice of time slots! This Voice of Americans show is gorgeous! It comes right after Osama bin Laden and Kate Middleton Wales were all over the press and Lisa and I were well rested. Our special guest, Musician and comic Christian Reilly, ticked a few boxes - worked with Rich Hall, the funny American comedian and the most famous American comedian working in the country today, as Ruby Wax has waned a bit. He is a musician and sang a leftwing type song, which is sure to make many of our listeners feel smug, and he is a comic who has seen me perform my one man show at the Source Below [11 Lower John Street, Soho W1F 9TY, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 PM (God willing) - reservation information at www.lewisschaffer.co.uk or www.sourcebelow.com]. We neglected to ask him what I need to help my comedy career Download V_of_A_9th_May_2011.mp3 -this was Chris Dixon's idea, and a good one. We shall do it next time. But we did discuss the royal family, and only in Britain could we say not so nice things a country's monarchy and get away with it (we hope!). God Bless Britain for being so accepting. Chris wasn't here, except for a brief visit toward the end. Leanne Bower ably womanned the deck at our Borough High Street studios. A lovely, lovely show and one we are proud of! ENJOY!!!! See Lewis Schaffer Live in "Free until Famous" at the Source Below, 11 Lower John Street, Soho W1F 9TY, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 PM (God willing) - reservation information at www.lewisschaffer.co.uk or www.sourcebelow.com!
I don't want to judge this show, but Lisa Moyle, my lovely Co-Host, came into the show a bit tipsy, and it threw me. Coming from a family where both my grandfathers were drinkers (I know, you're saying "But Jews dont drink?!" Both my grandfathers drank which is maybe, just maybe, why I am the way I am?). Download Voice_of_Americans_11th_April_2011.mp3 Anyway, I am hypersensitive to decisions made under the influence. Irony is that I am involved in a business which relies on the customer (the audience) buying and consuming alcohol! And also moved to a country which loves their alcohol! The Show was still lovely, as we had the first appearance of Nunhead Comedian Liam Mullone, who used to work at the Times, and lives right near Randy Klein in Nunhead Heights. He may have an immigrant name but he is very, very English and very, very funny. Making a return appearance was Near-Nunhead American and Musician David Randall-Goddard, who is sooo American, compared with Lisa and my New York-types, and also was good for some funny banter. He played us his new single from his band Widescreen and it was very, very spicy! Recommended. Chris Dixon got us started with the introductions, then Leanne Bower took over the tech side. My show is 8 PM every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday [God Willing] at the Source Below in Soho, 11 Lower John Street W1F 9TY. "Free until Famous with Lewis Schaffer".
The Voice of Americans with Lewis Schaffer of Nunhead, the only radio program for Americans living in Nunhead, the Capital of Southwark Water Supplies and Human Burial Services, welcomes back two of our favorites: Michael Holland, the dude who wrote the Southwark News article about our show calling what I say "often cow crap" is back to talk about his new film on successful Nunhead American artist and friend Randy Klein. Randy speaks of working with Michael and Randy offers his services as a life coach to Lewis Schaffer and the show. We try to save the Honor Oak Recreation Ground and talk about how Reg Varney filmed "On the Buses" in Nunhead. Or part of it. And what is the correct pronunciation of Nunhead? Nun-ed or Nun Head? Co-host Lisa Moyle is brilliant, as always, and I mean that without irony. She is a natural and if she gets any better, I am going to have to pull a Tony Hancock on her Syd James [God, I have lived in Nunhead too long - our foreign listeners won't know what I am talking about.] Leanne Bower (with no "S" as she is unique) is ably handling the tech side while amazing Chris Dixon away on 'assignment', not forgotten and definitely missed. Enjoy. See Lewis Schaffer Live and Free every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Soho, London. Info and Reservations at www.sourcebelow.com. Download Voice_Of_Americans_14-3-2011.mp3
