News: Star Wars Celebration Japan just wrapped up and there were some new details about changes coming to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Starting on May 22, 2026, guests will have more control over their experience piloting the Millennium Falcon. Crews will be in charge of the destination that they travel to. New locations like Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor, or Coruscant will be options. The engineers will also be able to communicate with Grogu. These additions will coincide with the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/the-mandalorian-grogu-and-new-crew-controls-coming-to-smugglers-run/ https://blogmickey.com/2025/04/new-locations-smugglers-run-mandalorian-update-2026/ April is Earth Month, and this year Disneyland is doing something unique. Guests are being encouraged to participate in the Food Scraps program. The program takes uneaten food and turns it into nutrient-rich feed for farm animals. Galactic Grill, Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, Cafe Daisy, Pym Test Kitchen, Flo's V8 Cafe, and Cozy Cone Motel are participating. Guests are given a green food scraps container to place leftover food into, which can then be emptied into a green food-only receptacle. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ An unexpected, but fun activity appeared in Toon Town this week. Signs for a missing churro have been posted around the land, with a phone number to call. When called, Donald Duck picks up and talks about his missing churro. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ Fans of the Disneyland Starbucks tumblers have a new variation. This tumbler comes with one of two mystery pins. The tumbler itself is brightly colored with graphics depicting Disneyland attractions like the Tiki Room, it's a small world, Haunted Mansion, and more! – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ https://disneypinsblog.com/starbucks-tumbler-with-mystery-pin-pouch-at-disney-parks/?srsltid=AfmBOopOzc7lOklM6rS3y2mYUX5rGfb_HfVZ_C2MA-l8dLMuGyn_ghAh With the recent uncertainty from international travelers from outside the United States, Disney has created some hotel and theme park ticket deals. Currently, there is a SoCal Resident Ticket offer through May 15th, and a Disneyland Anniversary 4-day Ticket valid from May 16th through August 14th from $100 per day. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ The fires at the beginning of the year in the Southern California area were tragic, and impacted so many. Disney committed $15 million to the effort back in January. Disney has added “Disney Field Days” where they go and bring carnivals with characters, games, activities, and more to locations impacted. Recently, two schools in Brentwood, Disney cast members and VoluntEARS put on these events – to over 900 students. Two people who lost special items in the fires got a version of them back. One eight-year-old lost her giant stuffed Tigger in the fire, Disney replaced it with one that had traveled around Disney's Animal Kingdom. A teacher, who lost her Disney-themed classroom in the fire, including her collection of mouse ears, was presented with over 50 ears from Disney Parks, stores, and VoluntEARS. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/la-fire-relief-efforts-how-disney-helps-the-communities-we-call-home/ SnackChat: New Sweets – https://www.instagram.com/p/DIwawmMx3iH/?img_index=7 Discussion Topic: Michael Holland host of From Out of the Past Podcast https://www.instagram.com/fromoutofthepastpodcast/ https://linktr.ee/hollandimaginarium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK7GRiUhhB8 https://www.youtube.com/@AlextheHistorian

Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Alan Minskoff discuss this immersive novel set in Oakland that makes for a powerful listening experience. Among the segmented novel's stellar performances, Charley Flyte's reading of Victoria Bear Shield's dramatic monologue to her unborn daughter is a tour de force—a haunting performance with an expressive tone and intimate voice. Alma Cuervo portrays Jacquie Red Feather and Victoria—the unborn infant, now a grandmother—with candor, compassion, and a thoughtful pace. You're a better podcaster than us, Michael Holland. That's right, the City of Angels' very own boy wonder is back to take Paul and Arlo to film school. The That Was Then classic gracing our screens this time is George Stevens' 1939 adventure film Gunga Din, starring Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. The gang discusses the film's connection to William Goldman, the subject of the first season of Michael's podcast From Out of the Past; why it represents a milestone in action-adventure cinema; its surprising, or refreshing, lack of plot; and why Paul and Arlo had such a hard time watching this 85-year-old film for the very first time. Around and around we go, where we'll stop–only Arlo knows! For this month's Four-Color Flashback, Gobbledygeek's enfant terrible has chosen Junji Ito's 1998-99 horror manga Uzumaki. Will Paul ever forgive him? On hand to find out is The Deli Counter of Justice co-conspirator Eric Sipple, who will be appearing on FCF episodes for infinity. The gang discusses Ito's beautifully grotesque imagery, the book's at times confounding narrative, their (in)experience with the manga form, and snails. Plus, Arlo has been dabbling in other East Asian art with more Godzilla movies and Edward Yang's Taiwanese masterpiece Yi Yi; and Paul cannot hold back his rage when it comes to X-Men ‘97. NEXT: where you been, Gunga Din? Hollywood's own Michael Holland joins us to discuss George Stevens' 1939 classic. For the next installment in our That Was Then series, Paul and Arlo cast their minds back to 1964–a year that predates both of them, though the era's Beatlemania might as well be Arlo's spiritual birthplace. This time, they're popping paisley parasols for Jacques Demy's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, a sung-through opera told in the style of a Hollywood musical with some of the most stunning colors you'll ever see. Hollywood extraordinaire and From Out of the Past host Michael Holland is on hand to help the boys discuss how the film defies romantic conventions while adhering to them, the magic of Jean Rabier's camerawork, the way Demy uses color to convey feeling, and why the film deserves to be mentioned alongside classics of the French New Wave. In 2015 Michael Holland, the LA City Archivist, dug into his files to explore how the city reacted to the 1919 flu epidemic that killed millions around the world. Michael was inspired to explore the topic by a measles outbreak, but no matter, the parallels between 1919 and today are eerie and fascinating. Masks in theaters? Music in restaurants? It's all there, more than a hundred years ago.
Grieving the loss of your child is very personal—and private—until your loss becomes part of a national tragedy. Deb Roberts shared her grief with people around the country, as we held our collective breaths waiting to hear the fate of the 33 crew members aboard the SS Elfaro in 2015. Her son, Michael Holland, was among the heroes lost at sea. In this, our final podcast of 2022, Colby and I have a very moving conversation with Deb about her experiences with grief, knowing she can never bring her son home. Now, now, get your mind out of the gutter–we're talking Dick's, the iconic Seattle burger chain. On the podcast today, we speak with the newly elected Member for Bega, Dr Michael Holland on what were the circumstances that led the electorate to change hands for the first time since the inception of the seat.
Conversations with Dead People is back, and with hardly any time at all between episodes! Seriously, for all you could tell I recorded this episode the same night as our last one. Seamless! Hollywood hotshot Michael Holland is here and we share a few words about the Apple TV+ series The Afterparty, which debuted recently and for which Michael served as Post-Production Supervisor, before continuing our journey through Angel Season 2. “Untouched” introduces us to writer Mere Smith, who will go on to pen some of the finest episodes of the series, and here considers sexual agency and trauma from the angle of two different Wolfram & Hart “special projects.” Then, in “Dear Boy,” the Boreanaz and Benz chemistry boils through the subterranean convent roof. And lastly, “Guise Will Be Guise” as Angel goes to therapy and Wesley bluffs his way into Virginia. NEXT: our very own voice of the Watcher Council, the exceedingly British Wesley “Wezzo” Mead joins me to talk about episodes 207, “Darla,” 208, “The Shroud of Rahmon,” and 209, “The Trial.” BREAKDOWN 00:00:55 - Intro / Guest 00:21:41 - Main Topic 01:33:22 - Outro / Next MUSIC “Conversations (feat. Wesley Mead)” by Azura (2017) “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” by Wang Chung, Mosaic (1986)
On The Alphabet Show, Theo Hooper guides you through a broad and brilliant mix of music, all connected to a specific letter – which this month is V. Michael Holland, Holland & Company President, says to beware the bond market. Matthew Luzzetti, Deutsche Bank Chief U.S. Economist, doesn't expect Biden's Build Back Better plan to have a material impact on the Fed's path. Jane Foley, Rabobank FX Strategy Head, says the move up in the dollar may not last. Jodie Guest, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health Department of Epidemiology Vice Chair, stresses the importance of improving Covid testing. What if…you listened to a podcast about What If…? In a universe of infinite possibilities, Michael Holland (currently post-production supervisor on The Peripheral for Amazon) finds himself once again teaming up with Paul and Arlo for a discussion of MCUTV. This time, it's the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first animated series, the multiversal What If…? Ostensibly an anthology series, the show ponders the ways in which our heroes' lives could have gone very, very differently. For their part, the gang ponders the series' relationship to the classic comic book of the same name, how the 2.5D animation allows for greater freedom than live-action, how voice acting is not the same thing as physical acting, and how–of course–everything is connected. NEXT: we bid farewell to 2021 with the comfy, cozy The Muppet Christmas Carol. BREAKDOWN 00:00:30 - Intro / Guest 00:04:06 - What if…there was a comic book series called What If…? 00:20:04 - What If…? “And cast ye the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” So says Matthew 25:30, and in John Layman and Afu Chan's Outer Darkness, there is plenty of weeping–and so, so much gnashing of teeth. For their last Four-Color Flashback of the year, Paul and Arlo discuss Layman and Chan's 2018-19 Image/Skybound series, which imagines a far-flung future where spaceships need exorcists onboard and the dead can be resurrected so long as you cast a net wide enough to catch their souls. The boys discuss the book's ingenious mash-up of space opera and supernatural horror, how Layman & Chan expertly juggle a number of timelines, why the visceral splorches of Chan's art are so satisfying, and the depressing realities behind the series' cancellation. NEXT: what if…we did another MCUTV episode with Hollywood's own Michael Holland? We'll be discussing, you guessed it, the animated Marvel series What If…? Melanie Scala joins me for her first Angel outing, picking up the pieces left in the aftermath of the Season 1 finale as we discuss a slightly uneven but ultimately pretty great three-episode launch for Season 2. Episode 201, titled (appropriately) “Judgment,” and episode 203, titled (also appropriately) “First Impressions,” lay down the important themes of recognizing our prejudices and not making assumptions about people, or demons. The former also introduces two of the most important things in all of the Angel canon: the yet-to-be-named Lorne, known as The Host, and the song “Mandy.” The latter introduces… not really much of consequence. But of course the REAL treasure here is episode 202, “Are You Now or Have You Ever Been,” with its homages to Classic Hollywood, and the truly haunting evocation of HUAC and the McCarthy era. BONUS: Your humble host is mercilessly called out for his hypocrisy. Good times. NEXT: Speaking of Classic Hollywood, Michael Holland is back! We'll be discussing episodes 204, “Untouched,” 205, “Dear Boy,” and 206, “Guise Will Be Guise.” Should be ACTUAL good times. BREAKDOWN 00:00:55 - Intro / Guest 00:06:43 - Main Topic 01:26:30 - Outro / Next MUSIC “Conversations (feat. Wesley Mead)” by Azura (2017) “Mandy” by Barry Manilow, Barry Manilow II (1974)
