Robert Morgan, Associate Pastor of World Outreach Church, shares that America's founding was deeply shaped by Scripture, reminding us that God still calls us to build our lives on the unchanging foundation of His Word. Long before the Declaration of Independence, pastors were preaching from Scripture and shaping the ideas that would become the foundation of a new nation. Seven key Bible verses played a remarkable role in American history, from Deuteronomy 1:13 inspiring the first colonial constitution to Acts 4:12 being spoken over a dying Alexander Hamilton. George Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and others drew deeply from the Bible in their leadership and decision-making. The Constitutional Convention itself was rescued from collapse when Franklin quoted Psalm 127:1 and called the delegates to prayer. These stories have been quietly removed from textbooks, but they are real and they matter. The same God who guided a fledgling nation through impossible odds is still at work today, and the question for each of us is whether we will build our lives on His foundation.Verse References:Deuteronomy 1:13 inspired pastor Thomas Hooker to argue that people have a God-given right to choose their own leaders. His ideas led directly to the Connecticut Constitution, the prototype for the U.S. Constitution.Romans 13:1 was the text of a 1750 sermon that John Adams later called the catechism of the revolution, preached by Jonathan Mayhew more than two decades before the first shots were fired.Psalm 35:1 was read aloud at the First Continental Congress at a moment of crisis, and the delegates felt as though it had been placed in the Bible just for them.Joel 3:19 was the text pastor Jonas Clark preached after seven members of his congregation were killed at Lexington Green, the opening battle of the Revolutionary War.1 Samuel 7:12 was the passage Washington's chaplain preached after the impossible victory at Yorktown, calling the soldiers to remember God's providential help throughout the war.Psalm 127:1 was quoted by Benjamin Franklin at the Constitutional Convention when the entire process was on the verge of collapse. Washington then led the delegates to a nearby church to pray, and they returned to produce the Constitution.Acts 4:12 were among the last words spoken over Alexander Hamilton as he lay dying after his duel with Aaron Burr. He humbly acknowledged his sin and trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Robert J. Morgan joins Michael Easley for a powerful conversation about the history, theology, and enduring influence of Christian hymns. Why have these songs lasted for centuries? What are we losing when churches abandon them? And how can we recover the richness of hymnody without rejecting modern worship? Drawing from his book The Origin of Hymns, Morgan traces the story of congregational singing from the song of Moses in Book of Exodus, through the golden age of English hymnody with writers like Isaac Watts and Charles Wesley, to the modern era. He shares the powerful backstory behind “It Is Well With My Soul” by Horatio Spafford, and how that hymn connects to the film I Can Only Imagine 2. This episode challenges pastors, worship leaders, and believers to rediscover hymns not as nostalgia—but as theological formation. Hymns teach us how to worship, how to suffer, and how to endure. He was a caregiver for his wife, Katrina, who battled MS and went home to be with the Lord in 2019. He is the author of numerous books including The Red Sea Rules, Then Sings My Soul, The 50 Final Events in World History, and 100 Bible Verses That Made America. His most recent book is titled God Hasn't Forgotten You in which he presents "24 Remarkable Ways God is Working in You and Through You." Have you ever felt abandoned by God? Perhaps you've gone through a time of depression, discouragement or despair and wonder, "God where are you?" Perhaps you have felt all alone and isolated thinking that God doesn't care or doesn't remember you. You may feel He is unaware of the circumstances you're going through which causes you to feel that you've been abandoned. If that's the case, you're not alone. In the Scriptures we learn of people like Job who experienced great suffering and loss. He no doubt felt abandoned. Here's what is said in Job 30:20: "I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not." At times Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, felt abandoned by God. Then there was Elijah who had a great victory on top of Mt. Carmel against the prophets of Baal. But after Jezebel threatened his life, he was discouraged and ran and said as recorded in I Kings 19:10b, "I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away." In each of these cases God let them know that they were not abandoned by Him.

Maintaining strength and mobility isn't just about looking fit—it's about preserving independence, health and quality of life as we age. This week, the numbers man is back and this time he's brought his brother, as we go back to our roots by revisiting the brand new sequel for a movie we first covered nearly three years ago! It's 2025's The Accountant 2, directed by Gavin O'Connor and starring Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, J.K. Simmons, Daniella Pineda, Alison Wright and Robert Morgan. Anna Kendrick does not return for this one, but the movie aptly fills the void left by her absence by letting the Wolff Boys bro out for the bulk of the run-time this time around, and Bernthal is particularly outstanding in what is pure, uncut Dudes Rock cinema. Does the story make sense? Does it even matter? As the original found second life on TV and streaming, this nine-years-later sequel has been built to fill a three-hour programming block on cable in the not-so-distant future. The plot is needlessly complicated and hard to follow, but frankly none of that matters and the film is still fun as hell. Plus: we catch up on some recent theatrical outings, including Thunderbolts*, Bring Her Back, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Friendship and Clown in a Cornfield. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, The Accountant 2 is already available to stream on Amazon Prime despite the fact that it dropped in theaters a month and a half ago. Other works discussed on this episode include Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Dick Tracy, Top Gun, The NeverEnding Story, Crimes of the Future, Talk To Me, Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Hot Fuzz, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, Dog Man, Point of No Return and many more! We'll be back before too long, but we don't know when or what movie we'll be talking about, so keep your eye on our Instagram and BlueSky feeds for more. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
