In this gripping two-hour episode, we pull back the curtain on misinformation campaigns targeting carbon projects in Kenya's Northern Rangelands. Through interviews with local leaders—including Mohamed Shibia, director of the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) carbon program, and elders Peter Lekurtut of the Samboru people and Peter Kilesi of the Maasai—we hear firsthand how traditional grazing systems are being revived and enhanced, not imposed or destroyed.
“When I was growing up, my family was never really much involved in parish life other than attending Mass on Sunday and Holy Days. As kids, we attended Religious Ed – back then it was called CCD.“As far as living out a life of faith in the context of service, I don't recall doing much of that. Things were different back in the 60s and 70s. It was only after I had a re-conversion to my faith in the early 1980s, did I come to the realization that service was at the heart of my baptismal call.”This video is part of Bishop Robert Gruss' Lenten series on six spiritual practices that will deepen our relationship with the Lord, helping us to live more fully the life the Lord seeks to give us – as a way of personal encounter. Effectively and efficiently responding to humanitarian crises is one of the things the United Nations and its partners in the NGO community do best. Over the years, they have gotten very good at saving lives. This system is now under unprecedented strain due to the Trump administration's decision to freeze foreign aid and dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development. These cuts are being felt across hundreds of NGOs. So, for today's episode, I wanted to dig deep into what these funding cuts mean for one long-standing humanitarian organization: the NGO Relief International. I'm joined by Relief International's CEO, Craig Redmond, who explains the difficult choices his organization is making as it responds to massive funding cuts. He details how these cuts are impacting not only the people Relief International serves and the organization itself, but also the broader global humanitarian system—of which NGOs like Relief International are a key part.

From visiting unfamiliar locations to speaking directly with locals, nothing beats experiencing key elements of your story firsthand. When possible, this kind of immersive research can make the difference between a good book and one that truly transports readers. In today's episode of Fully Booked, Craig and Roland sit down with award-winning author Dr. Randy Overbeck to explore how direct, on-the-ground research enhances storytelling. Overbeck, a former educator turned award-winning mystery author, shares how traveling to real settings, consulting experts, and even participating in activities like sailing or dune buggy rides has helped him craft compelling, authentic narratives. As Overbeck explains, firsthand research does more than just help set the scene—it strengthens character development, enriches historical details, and adds depth to complex social themes. He has spent years refining his approach by connecting with local experts, securing permissions for real-world references, and weaving his findings into gripping mysteries. But not every detail can be uncovered in person, and even Overbeck relies on traditional research methods to fill in the gaps. By blending fieldwork with more conventional research, authors can create immersive, believable stories—whether they can visit their book's setting or not. In this episode, host OP Almaraz guides listeners through firsthand accounts of a recent, chaotic wildfire event. His guests/staff, Erika and Ally, share their experiences working on the frontlines during the crisis. They discuss the intense days following the wildfire—from the initial panic on Tuesday through the exhausting days of Wednesday, Thursday, and the weekend—when they received frantic calls from homeowners desperate for wildfire protection. Key themes include: Wildfire Response Realities: Erika and Ally explain how homeowners, overwhelmed with anxiety, often expected a firefighter-like response. They clarify that while their role is to protect properties by managing vegetation and applying fire retardants, they do not stay on-site to monitor homes continuously during an active fire. Community Connection & Education: Amid the chaos, many clients expressed genuine gratitude for the calm and informative support they received. The conversation highlights that wildfire prevention is a year-round effort, emphasizing proactive measures over last-minute responses. Behind the Scenes Challenges: The episode provides insights into the "war room" environment where the team juggled high call volumes, coordinated limited crew resources, and navigated logistical hurdles. Anecdotes, like Edwin's fire-retardant-covered boots, showcase both the physical and emotional demands of the work. Looking Ahead: With the immediate crisis transitioning to post-fire challenges such as smoke management and concerns over toxic residues, OP Almaraz, Erika, and Ally stress the importance of preparation. They urge homeowners to treat wildfire prevention like a “seatbelt”—an essential measure that provides an extra layer of safety. In a groundbreaking development, Allied Disaster Defense is now franchising its wildfire defense expertise, signaling a new era for an industry poised to become one of the most in-demand in the coming years. Usually Thomas as a pastor, was the one who had speaking engagements at various seminars and events. But this time, because I worked with the women's Aglow group in Munich, we were both invited to speak at one of their meetings in West Berlin. The main purpose was to tell our story of how we found faith in Jesus. An important part of the meeting, was singing modern choruses, which we called “praise and worship”. Of all the places we had been that year, this was the most important. It was an opportunity, to get back to our roots, and share the gospel with people in Thomas' home town. Thomas' mother Nadja, was also a part of the Aglow teamin Berlin. She had given her testimony at one of their meetings and told how her son had led her to the truth. So the ladies were interested in hearing his side of the story. This was out of the norm, inviting a man, but they liked theidea of hearing from both of us, and how all of us ended up in California. Today I will take you back to the beginning of our story, as we told it when we were 31 and 32 years old.

Time Magazine, CNN, Media Images & Reporting Reflect the Colors of Change. This Week I Take Time to Reflect & Just Breathe. Also Reflect of Things Happening in Our World. In Remembrance of Jimmie Lee Jackson & The Late Honorable John Lewis (D,GA).In 2025, We are STILL Fighting the Good Fight for Voter's Rights for ALL.I have been Blessed to Meet, Learn, Train & Work along side of Several Civil Rights Icons. On of them was the Late The Honorable John Lewis (D,GA) who Fought & Marched in 2020 to the Very End!!I have attended events Remembering the History, People & Sacrifice. The Fight for Justice Continues Today in 2025 as People Take to the Streets to Voice their Opinions to Help Bring About Change. My Guest this Week was asked to join the Selma March in Alabama in 1965 by Dr. Martin Luther King. His name: Joseph Cooney Esq., then a newly ordained Priest. He also worked with SCLC in the Voters Registration Summers of 1966-67.In 1965,State Troopers Clashed with Citizens marching to Montgomery, Alabama to petition the state for African-American's Right to Vote. Many lives would change in this fight. Some lives both Black & White lost. The March from Selma to Montgomery was inspired by the death of Jimmie Lee Jackson was a civil rights activist in Marion, Alabama, and a deacon in the Baptist church. On February 18, 1965, while participating in a peaceful voting rights march in his city, he was beaten by troopers and shot by Alabama State Trooper John Bonard Fowler Jackson was unarmed and died eight days later in the hospital. His death was part of the inspiration for the Selma to Montgomery marches in March 1965, a major events in the American Civil Rights Movement that helped gain Congressional passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This opened the door to millions of African Americans being able to vote again in Alabama and across the South, regaining participation as citizens in the political system for the first time since the turn of the 20th century, when they were disenfranchised by state constitutions and discriminatory practices.© 2025 Building Abundant Success!!© 2025 All Rights Reserved Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBAS Spot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Firsthand: How I Solved a Literary Mystery and Learned to Play Kickass Tennis While Coming to Grips with the Disorder of Things (U Michigan Press, 2024) is an exploration—both suspenseful and comic—of the creative process in research writing. The book takes the reader through the ins and outs of a specific research journey, from combing through libraries and archives to the intellectual challenges involved with processing information that contradicts established ideas. More fundamentally, it addresses the somewhat mysterious portion of the intellectual process: the creative and serendipitous aspects involved in arriving at a fruitful research question in the first place. Keith Gandal is Professor of English with a Joint Appointment in American Studies and Creative Writing at The City College of New York. Keith combines this scholarly detective story with a comic personal narrative about how a midlife crisis accidentally sent him on a journey to write a research monograph that many in his profession—including at times himself—were dubious about. While researching how Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Faulkner faced their forgotten crises of masculinity, Gandal discovers that his own crisis is instrumental to his creative process. Incorporating stories from Gandal's comic romp through the hyper-competitive world of middle-aged men's tennis, adopting pitbulls, and discussing Michel Foucault, Firsthand gives readers an inside look at how to acquire accurate knowledge—about the world, about history, and about oneself.
