Launching a podcast was unchartered territory. So was deciding to be an Actor. But both have led to new, surprising experiences, relationships and opportunities that were nowhere in sight at the start. In this short, solo episode Matt discusses the benefits of taking a leap and the number one takeaway of the entire show. SHOW NOTES: "No matter what happens to you... the gig of being a human is you need to choose to not be a victim and to see everything that happens to you as an opportunity to grow, (8:15). It's okay to wallow in it for a little bit, but eventually you have to move away from anger and self-pity, (11:22). “How do I train myself to use everything to help me grow as opposed to shutting me down?”, (11:58). People are craving leaping off and going to do something, and if you're one of those people, take the leap," (17:10). "Does it get you more excited to wake up in the morning? Or does it stress you out? Let that be your guide", (17:42). Show Notes: No one is ever a pro right in the beginning. All of us have to start somewhere, so don’t feel pressured to be a beginner in the industry that you want to pursue, because there are a lot of ways to learn and get help for ourselves – just like mentoring! For this episode, I’d like to talk about one of the topics that I value the most – mentoring in general, finding a suitable mentor to work with, growing your relationship with them, and reciprocating their efforts. Not only that you’ll have an honest and reliable opinion on your decisions, but your friend list will definitely grow as well! Transcript: Hello, and welcome to The Traveling Introvert! Today, I’m going to talk about mentoring. I think mentoring is something that is very important and often overlooked when people are out thinking about their careers. You are in charge of your own career, and as part of that, you should have a plan. While it’s an idea of where you want to go, and if not getting outside your views and help, and mentors can help you in while doing that. While beefing up your career skills, mentoring is proven to be essential for your career success. Several mentors to utilize range from CEOs to CMOs to college professionals. There’s no one set thing that a mentor should be as far as job title is concerned. But these people are instrumental to your career growth and success. They will offer their time, care, and commitment to improving your skills. Great mentors have the knowledge and experience to guide you, your men, as a mentee. Mentors are valuable because they guide you on your career path whether you are an experienced professional or recent college grad, mentors are a valuable asset in your career toolkit. And how do you get started with creating a relationship with your mentor? Well, you should determine your mentorship goals before you seek out a mentor. [Right now], all your expectations and the role that you would like to mentor to play in your life. Do you want a mentor who can help you with installing network attempts? Or would you like a mentor who can assist you in learning more about a particular industry? Or do you want someone who can provide guidance on how to be a successful entrepreneur? There is a specific experience or skills in your career that might need further improvement. It’s crucial to determine your set of objectives and goals because this is what you and your mentor should be achieving together. Then you have to recognize what is a good mentor. While trying to discover a good mentor, you may look for someone that can aid your personal growth, but in addition, you need to find someone who’s truly brilliant and has found success in many areas. The most obvious mentor candidates are your current or former bosses, colleague, or college professors because you already have a good relationship with them and they are leaders that can help you beef up your career skills in almost any field of work. During the entire process, however, bear in mind you are not limited to a single mentor. You can choose to have a mentor for each stage of your career or different areas of your career. There are multiple mentors who will specialize in different areas, so just think about that. Don’t feel you just have to have one mentor, and then like how do you request the mentorship? So, it’s easy to approach a mentor candidate if you’ve known the person for a while and have a pre-existing relationship with them. You can easily ask them for a meeting at a coffee shop or an office environment, so that’s okay. If it’s someone that you don’t know, sending out an email or connecting with them on LinkedIn is the first step. And then, showing interest in what they do and then proceeding from there. Communicate all of your career goals and identify some of the areas that you want to improve in. Explain that you have high regard for that specific leadership or experience and skills and you would like to take the opportunity to learn from them, and there’s nothing wrong with asking for a person to be their mentor. But remember, they are giving up their time, so be very clear and specific about what you’re looking for. You could ask for a mutual friend to be introduced to someone else as a mentor. There are other places you can reach out on social media like Facebook. You can be persistent, but don’t be annoying, and have a couple of people in mind, because like I said, it might just be the wrong time. Explore different ways of crossing path with your mentor. If your mentor is an online influencer or professional organization member, maybe you could attend one of their events. Don’t stop them but be proactive about the opportunities where you can meet them in an outside setting. So, show admiration for things that they do and show enthusiasm for growth. Now, the next part is actually being a mentee. As I said before, people are extremely busy and they consider their time to be valuable. Therefore, when a person has agreed to mentor you, you need to realize this is a privilege and an honor and give the respect and time to the mentor by being prepared before you go out and meet them. Be careful in planning the questions and topics that you want to address. This must be done beforehand so that when you meet you will have a focused meeting. Ask suggestions but in moderation. Don’t reach out for suggestions all the time because that could be seen as too much work for your mentor. Reach out only for advice on career decisions, not little challenges. Make sure you listen. Mentors are dispensing an advice. You might not always take the advice, but you should at least listen to it and you should be able to explain why you did something different and share your development. Show, you know, what you did that’s changed and show your gratitude. Just saying thank you or sending a card is a really great way to let them know that they’ve made a difference in your life and you can keep in touch with them later on even if they’re not your mentor anymore. So that was just a quick episode on mentoring and it’s something that is close to my heart. If you have any questions, please email me at janice@thecareerintrovert.com. Thank you for listening, and I look forward to helping you with your career and your business moving forward.

Show Notes: No teenager lives in a perfect home! Why? Because homes are made up of humans, and no human is perfect. If there was a perfect home, the moment you joined it, it would no longer be perfect! Teens, your home isn’t perfect, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a great home life! So I would like to biblically address how to live like a New Creation in an imperfect House. Living in a Single Parent Home In today’s world, this is fairly normal! It is estimated around 50% of children will grow up in a single parent household! That means half of you live in a home with only one parent! This brings with it a host of challenges! Sometimes teens resent their parents for splitting up, sometimes you feel guilty like it's your fault! Sometimes teens lose interest in schooling and friends… Sometimes teens are ashamed that this would happen in their family and so they are embarrassed. (Dan's Story From Josh McDowell's Handbook for Counseling youth p 210) Living in a single parent home does come with its challenges… but it is possible to thrive as a Christian in a single parent family. You don’t have to go the way of Dan. But how? 1. Fully forgive both parents. Realize that both of your parents are hurting during this time and are trying to figure things out as well. Bottling up your emotions can lead to resentment. That is bad for you! You must come to the point where you forgive your parents for splitting up. You must forgive them for leaving you. And you can only do that as you realize that how much you have been forgiven, and what that feels like. 2. Support the Parent who is raising you. Your single parent will have to do 2x the parenting now. Understand that and help out. If your mom is raising you, don’t rebel because she can’t force you to obey. Submit, because God asks you to. 3. Obey the highest standard. When in a single parent or even a blended home, often you will spend time with the other parent as well. This can get confusing when both parents have different rules and regulations for you to follow! The 1st rule here is to obey the highest standard. Example one parent says you can’t watch anything above PG-13 the other says PG… when you obey the highest standard you take care of both. This can get awkward though when the PG-13 parent wants you to watch a PG-13 show with them! What then? -Have a pre-made plan with your (PG parents) in place for when these situations arise. Follow that plan (in this case say that you would rather not watch it, or that you would rather watch “suggest another title.” If they are watching it and don’t care whether or not you watch it, do something else, read, go for a walk, anything! When you follow the plan, it eases your conscience and gives you liberty to love and honor both your parents. Text your PG parent what you are up to and ask for advice where needed. 4. Realize that God is the Perfect Parent. Ps 68:4-5 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. Ps 27:9-10 Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. God will never leave you. Believe that! He will be to you the perfect parent that you are missing. He will teach you, nurture you, raise you to be the young man or young woman He intended for you to be. Growing up in a single parent family will not stop or hinder God from making you exactly what He wants you to be! Engage more deeply in the youth group and church. Study your Bible for yourself and develop a strong prayer life. You are not worth less than someone coming from a two parent home. God will still make you what He wants to make you.

Busyness can be super stressful so let’s tackle it now to live easy later. You got this! // Show Notes // “No one is too busy to tell you how busy they are.” - unknown We love busyness because we learned to love it. Somehow as we get older we shift into this mold where we equate busyness to success. But have you ever stopped to ask yourself why? Why am I doing this? When will it be too much? We live for weekends and vacations but here’s the thing…busyness is a disease that follows. It will continue to follow you until you learn to let it go. Our need to achievement can blindside our judgement. Sometimes instead of prioritizing the right things we prioritize just getting stuff done. But friends, there will always be more things to do. And those things create an urgency even if they are not urgent. ➡️PRACTICAL LIFE TIP! Batch tasking: Give yourself an hour to do all the crappy to do’s you don’t want to do. "Our job on this planet is to perpetuate love." Today's guest is the host of ESPN's Sports Science show, has won 6-emmies and wrote the New York Times bestseller The Perfection Point. John Brenkus realized early in his college career that he wanted to be in the entertainment industry. With this as his singular focus - and without any connections in the field - he took a personal oath to learn the ins and outs of of producing entertainment himself... and just started. In his parents' basement. "I had to have persistence, stubbornness d+ belief to stick around when I was just scraping by. I was just scraping by for a long time." He had success partnering with the Discovery Channel which led to FOX Sports, National Geographic and others. Today, more than ten years later: He is still doing what he loves. Producing shows that are positive, entertain and educate. Today we get to take a lesson on living inspired from a man who works hard to share positive stories in the media AND has gleaned what it takes to make his professional dreams come true. SHOW NOTES: No matter what you hear, consider the source. Whatever it is you want to do in life, learn how to do it yourself. This will help you learn what you love and what you are good at. This will help you understand what you can do yourself and who you need to hire. The journey everyone takes, the timeframe, is different for everybody. It took us a decade to get our footing. We had to have persistence, stubbornness and belief to stick around when we were just scraping by. We were just scraping by for a long time. What motivates me and always has is spreading positive energy. I don't want to only entertain but to educate too. Sports Science is an incredibly positive show. Now we are moving into putting this same energy into a new podcast, The Brink of Midnight which focuses on the moments in life where everything changes. In life, our "outer ring" is unstable. Look for intangible things that fill your outer ring + make you complete. Our job here on the planet is to perpetuate love. Prayer doesn't change God; it changes you. JOHN BREANKUS' LIVE INSPIRED 7 1. What is the best book you’ve ever read? The Great Gatsby is my favorite fiction about a man who has everything except the one thing he wants. My favorite nonfiction is Under the Banner of Heaven. It gives you a good look at how religions evolve. 2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do with it? 3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be? My prayer book my mother gave me when I was 7-year-old for my first holy communion. It travels with me everywhere I go that I put on my night stand no matter if I'm at home or traveling. 4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be? I'd want one person on each side! Thomas Jefferson, how in the world did you guys have the vision that the country would be what it has become. Pope John Paul II, to talk about how he spread the message of love for all. 5. What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Stephen Soderberg telling me: Do everything yourself. That really sunk in for me. To learn, you gotta figure it out somehow. Learn the whole process. From my wife: Take three breaths look at the positive side. Although you are upset, look at all the things you have to be grateful for an realize the thing that is making you upset at this moment is going to dwindle. 6. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself at age 20? I was rash and bold. I was unprepared for really respecting who really know what they are doing. Be willing to give up control on something because you know you are putting it in good hands. I am so much better at delegating now. 7. It’s been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read? Good is a word you use when something is not great and he strived to be great. *** If you enjoyed today’s episode: Subscribe (automatically get new episodes), rate & review (help spread the word!) this podcast wherever you get your podcasts. Wayne hosts another Gamefest for all of his friends, but he breaks the show while running it. Ken is very patient as Wayne tries to fix everything live on the show. First he keeps everyone from listening to himself, then he forsakes the video watchers with their audio. Finally after about 20 minutes he gets everything together and they start a show. Ken and Wayne are joined by El Camp-0, La Camp-Et, Jon Wasik, and Kur0 to discuss what they did at Gamefest. Ken is back to WoW yet again, he has been travelling so he can't spend time to play real games. He did manage to go watch the new Tarantino film, Hateful 8, which he highly recommends. Gamefest does its usually damage to everyone with no real sleep available, limited nutrition, and lots of alcoholic consumption. Especially Da Biebs... Who's youthful exuberance got him completely blitz to the point of speaking in tongues. Lt Fork continues to confuse the guys with how she is able to play FPS games so successfully with a controller instead of the keyboard and mouse. Games that were played this Fest included Rainbow Six: Siege, League of Legends, Supreme Commander 2, Star Citizen, Unreal Tournament Pre-Alpha, and Diablo 3. They also had the chance to play a lot of the beta for Tom Clancy's the Division. All of the group really enjoyed their time with it. They were impressed with the hybrid 3rd person shooter feel, the adventure, missions, and overall story. The audio and visuals are fresh and add a lot to the immersion of the experience. It looks like a game that everyone at Gamefest will likely be purchasing. La Camp-Et also got to play some games older than her back at the Grampa Camp-0's house. She played the original Zelda and Kid Icarus which led us all down a path of nostalgia for gaming.
