Final Fantasy VI - Episode 8 This Week: Go back to Mobilzgo to Triangle Island, get eaten by the Zone Eater, explore the Zone Eater's tum-tum and find a new friend. This new friend is special. He mimics whatever the person before him did. He can also do the special attacks of a ton of other characters, but you have to go to set him up correctly. To do that, go to Status and Set Commands. Choose whatever you want, Tools, Blitz, Steal, Throw, the world is your oyster! Fly to the pentagon shaped mountain (this is the phoenix cave, go check it out.) Investigate Narshe, bring Locke. Pick up Mog and Mog's friend while you are there. Bonus things to do:Return to Sabin's Cabin and get his ultimate Blitz (this takes five minutes and makes Sabin good.)Return to Doma Castle and make Cyan Great Again (as long as he has haste.) Climb the Cultist's TowerCleanse the Cursed Shield (this isn't as difficult as it seems. Just go to the sad island Celes was on and give the person with the Cursed Shield a ribbon and then let monsters die 250 times.) Explore the Ancient Castle (take a ride on Figaro Castle and when it gets stuck, hop out and go through the entrance you used in the prison cells of the castle.)Go fight a dagron at the Opera House. Kill Deathgaze. Next Week: Raid Kefka's Tower and finish the game What's a video game book club? I played through Mixtape via Xbox Game Pass and I enjoyed it - but it's not going to be my GOTY and it didn't really reflect on my personal experience growing up in that time period. But you can wait for a sale - Mixtape's music licenses were agreed to in perpetuity, so the game will not be delisted. I then talk a lot about Forza Horizon 6, and how we've started to enter the roster update phase of one of my favorite game series. (But I'm still loving it) A bill in California has passed committee that will make it illegal for games to be sold that will be unplayable when the publisher shuts down online servers. Then we talk to Brad from OLR IIDX about Forza Horizon 6 and how it scales its difficulty levels.

“When I started on the project of Necesse, we had maybe thirty sound effects. I've made around 400, 350 sound effects, so it's become much more immersive. You can hear animals when you wander around in the different environments. I would so appreciate that.(00:00) – Growing Up in a Musical HomeOur conversation starts with the movies and music that inspire Rune's career in sound. “I clearly remember watching Star Wars,” he recalls, “and all of the soundscapes that are in, you know, just that huge universe, [with] TIE-fighters flying by and Darth Vader, that scary sound.” He shares his memories of growing up in a home that doubled as a music studio, and of studying classical music from a young age. “When I went to this special school in Denmark that is only for classical music,” he says, “and being there, being part of that, I played the French horn. At this time, I started to have ear training and music theory and all of that, which kind of led me on a path to try to make my own.”(15:00) – From Classical Music to Video GamesThe discussion turns to his work in the video game industry and how he got his start in composing video-game soundtracks. “I showed up at this incubator with game companies,” he tells us, “and I was, like, ‘This is me, I do music, I want to do music for games.' And then some of the guys there, they said, ‘Hey, we want to work with you.'" Rune gives us a behind-the-scenes look at game development and recalls his sound work on MineRalph, a game where the soundtrack had to keep pace with the action. “So, because you gain speed if you're, like, going down a hill or something like that, or down a hole,” he explains, “if you have high speed, the music will change into different adaptive layers.”(21:40) – Creating Immersive Gaming SoundscapesAs the first half of our talk comes to a close, Rune tells us more about his work with video games and shares another memorable project that took some outside-the-box thinking. “That was like a dystopian world sci-fi thing,” he recalls, “and that was actually mainly symphonic music. Final Fantasy VI - Episode 7This Week: Follow the pigeon. Fight in the Veldt with only three people in your party. Go to the cave on the Veldt, go to the Dragon's Neck Coliseum and bet the Ichigeki. Go to Jidoor and explore the giant mansion. Go to the Cultists Tower. Head to Thamasa and then to Ebot's Rock.  Next Week: Go back to Mobilzgo to Triangle Island, get eaten by the Zone Eater, explore the Zone Eater's tum-tum and find a new friend. This new friend is special. He mimics whatever the person before him did. He can also do the special attacks of a ton of other characters, but you have to go to set him up correctly. To do that, go to Status and Set Commands. Choose whatever you want, Tools, Blitz, Steal, Throw, the world is your oyster! Fly to the pentagon shaped mountain (this is the phoenix cave, go check it out.) Investigate Narshe, bring Locke. Pick up Mog and Mog's friend while you are there. Bonus things to do:Return to Sabin's Cabin and get his ultimate Blitz (this takes five minutes and makes Sabin good.)Return to Doma Castle and make Cyan Great Again (as long as he has haste.) Climb the Cultist's TowerCleanse the Cursed Shield (this isn't as difficult as it seems. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Pokémon, aka Pocket Monster (Poketto Monsutā). From games and cards to television and movies, Pokémon has defined generations and inspired the entire world. It is more popular today than ever. People steal the cards in major heists, which have gone global, and others use the cards for money laundering. Those of us growing up with this type entrainment, including general anime and manga, were probably told it was stupid and a waste of time and money. But the Japanese beg to differ. These things are an expression of their culture, one that is so influential it has touched the entire world in profound ways. The current Prime Minister quotes Attack on Titan and the government as a whole has decided to help boost these industries, including video games, with 500-billion yen over five years, not because they are failing but due to the fact they are such a key component of the culture — to help spread them while they are already on fire. From storytelling to artwork, and from pushing the boundaries of free speech and creativity to the fantasy and imagination outlet they provide for adults and children. Naturally there are some that despite anime, manga, and video games. They attempt to adulterate them, poison them, and even ban them. Legislation in Texas seeks to ban this part of Japanese culture while various Christian and Jewish groups have over the years argued for the same. Why? Certainly because of religious bigotry, and due to misunderstandings of culture. But could there be more to the story? Perhaps the hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine characters, the archetypical storylines, and the very issue of pushing the boundaries of censorship are highly offensive to a particular agenda. Hentai, for example, sits at the top of most major porn searches naturally and clearly interferes with the artificial propping up of abuse, incest, and LGBTQ content. The same goes for the JAV industry. The pedo argument against anime and manga is popular, but fails to account for key details: the drawings are not human, these things are not just things for kids, the kawaii aesthetic is not understood, fantasy is seen differently, and women make up a signifiant portion of the industry. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on femininity and beauty in Japan whereas ruggedness fills that role in the U.S. Besides, which country has more pedos and more domestic violence? It's not Nippon. Others argue that this kind of entertainment is not productive, despite the Japanese being considered some of those productive people in the world. Meanwhile, America is seen as increasingly lazier. Perhaps the issue is and what these forms of entertainment inspire people to do. Numerous cases exist internationally of people helping others because they were inspired by fictional manga and anime characters. While most of these so-called cartoons can inspire people to do good things, role models in the west often include lowlife degenerates.
