How do you take the chaos of DeFi and turn it into a simple, secure, one-click experience for both retail and institutional users? In this episode recorded live at Token2049, I talk with Steven Pack, co-founder of RockSolid. Steven's journey from high-frequency trading to leading product at Mina Protocol to now simplifying DeFi is nothing short of inspiring. We dive into how RockSolid is helping protocols like Rocket Pool offer real yield through vaults, how they're solving “DeFi complexity” for institutions, and why decentralization still matters. If you're a builder, founder, investor, or just DeFi-curious — this one is for you.
Here's the thing. Payments only look simple from the outside. In this Tech Talks Daily episode, I sit down with Roberto “Reks” Kafati, CEO and co-founder of DEUNA, to unpack how a scrappy one-click checkout idea grew into an intelligent payments infrastructure that now touches a large slice of Mexico's online economy. Reks explains why Latin America's high decline rates aren't just an inconvenience but a growth killer, and how DEUNA's early focus on orchestration and checkout opened the door to something bigger. When a region routinely sees more than four out of ten online transactions knocked back, the bar for reliability sits in a different place. That practical problem set the stage for what came next. Athena, Real-Time Decisions, and 638 Signals per Transaction DEUNA's pivot point came when merchants asked a fair question. With all this payment data flying through the system, what should we do with it? The answer is Athena, DEUNA's AI-powered layer that watches every transaction and feeds merchants real-time insight, routing choices, and suggested actions. It is not another dashboard you promise to check and then ignore by Friday. It is a reasoning engine that sits on top of 638 data points per transaction and turns mess into movement. That is how you recover revenue without punishing good customers with extra friction, how you avoid surprise fees from networks, and how you protect recurring revenue when a processor wobbles. Reks walks us through results that speak plainly. Ramped merchants saw conversion lift from the original one-click experience. The infrastructure tier recovers meaningful GMV and trims fees. Enterprise clients report double-digit ROI and stick around for the compounding effect. Building Through Adversity and Betting on the Right Layer What resonated most was the human story behind the metrics. DEUNA was born in the first months of the pandemic, shaped by the shock that hit real-world businesses when revenue fell off a cliff and marketplaces became a lifeline with strings attached. Reks shares an unvarnished look at a tough 2023, the kind of year founders rarely talk about on record. Revenues dipped, deals went sideways, life got complicated. The team chose resilience and doubled down on a two-year vision. That bet is paying off. Over the past twenty-four months the company has grown at a pace that would bend a chart, and the focus has shifted from commoditizing orchestration to productizing intelligence. Put simply, earn trust at checkout, then make the data work for the merchant in real time. Agentic Commerce, US Expansion, and What Comes Next We also look forward. If chat interfaces begin to mediate more buying decisions, merchants will need infrastructure that can think, not just connect endpoints. That is the territory DEUNA calls intelligent infrastructure, and it is where Athena operates every day. The company is now in active conversations with major US retailers, confident after winning head-to-head enterprise evaluations. Reks frames the opportunity without hype. If you can see acceptance trends by processor, by country, by card type, and act in the moment, you keep customers, protect margins, and avoid death by a thousand false declines. If you cannot, competitors will gladly welcome your frustrated shoppers. If you care about the real mechanics of growth, this conversation is for you. We talk conversion lift, recovered revenue, and the gritty bits of building a payments company that merchants actually rely on. We also talk about the days that test your resolve and the tenth day that reminds you why you started.

AI-generated “brain rot” videos are popping up all over the internet and getting a lot of attention. Currently gaining traction among younger users, these clips feature wild characters, like a shark wearing sneakers and a ballerina with a cappuccino for a head. One startup driving this trend is OpenArt, founded by two former Google employees in 2022. It touts around 3 million monthly active users. In other news, OpenAI astounded the tech industry for the second time this week by launching its newest flagship model, GPT-5, just days after releasing two new freely available models under an open source license. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman went so far as to call GPT-5 “the best model in the world.” That may be pride or hyperbole, as TechCrunch's Maxwell Zeff reports that GPT-5 only slightly outperforms other leading AI models from Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and xAI on some key benchmarks, and slightly lags on others. Alexandria “Lexi” Lutz is a privacy attorney and the Founder of Opt-Inspire, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors and youth build digital confidence and avoid online scams. By day, she serves as Senior Corporate Counsel at Nordstrom, advising on privacy, cybersecurity, and AI across the retail and technology landscape. In this episode… Online scams are becoming more sophisticated, targeting older adults with devastating financial consequences that often reach tens of thousands of dollars with little recourse. From tech support fraud to AI-driven deepfakes that mimic loved ones' voices, these scams prey on isolation, fear, and digital inexperience. Many families struggle to protect their aging parents and grandparents, especially when conversations about digital risks are met with resistance from loved ones. How can we bridge the digital literacy gap across generations and empower seniors to navigate these evolving threats? The urgency is real. In 2024, seniors lost nearly $5 billion to scams, a 43 percent increase from the previous year. Scammers are using voice cloning, fake emergencies, and fear-based messaging to pressure people into giving up money or sensitive personal information. Education can be a powerful defense, and that's why Opt-Inspire delivers engaging, volunteer-led workshops tailored to senior living communities, teaching practical skills like recognizing fake emails and enabling two-factor authentication. Protecting aging loved ones against technology and AI-driven scams requires proactive and hands-on education. Opt-Inspire equips seniors with the tools and knowledge to stay safe online through engaging, community-based seminars. The nonprofit delivers in-person and volunteer-led workshops tailored to senior living communities, addressing both technical literacy and emotional manipulation tactics. Through scripts, visuals, and a "Make It Personal" toolkit with conversation starters, Opt-Inspire also equips families with resources to discuss digital safety with loved ones in a constructive and relatable way. In this episode of She Said Privacy/He Said Security, Jodi and Justin Daniels talk with Alexandria (Lexi) Lutz, Senior Corporate Counsel at Nordstrom and Founder of Opt-Inspire, about building digital confidence among seniors. Lexi shares how a personal family experience inspired her to launch a nonprofit focused on preventing elder fraud. She delves into the most common scams targeting older adults today, including government impersonation, romance cons, and AI-generated deepfakes. Lexi emphasizes the importance of proactive education, enabling two-factor authentication, and weekly family check-ins. She also offers practical advice and resources for privacy professionals and family members alike who want to make a positive impact.

What if you could translate any video into any language—instantly—and make it look like the speaker was really speaking it? In this episode of Eye on AI, host Craig Smith sits down with Jeff Liu, founder and CEO of Akool, to explore how AI avatars and real-time video translation are eliminating global language barriers. With a background at Apple, Google, and Stanford, Jeff is leading Akool to the frontier of generative AI: cloning faces, voices, and emotions in live video streams. We dive into the technical architecture behind Akool's real-time avatars, the role of large language models in translation latency, and what the future looks like when the need to "learn languages" may disappear. Is your podcast audio hurting your credibility? Listeners judge you in seconds. And if your audio sounds off, you might be losing them—and their trust—before you even get to your content. In this episode of Just One Tip from Your Podcast Performance Coach, I'm digging into how AI audio tools can help you clean up your podcast recordings without making you sound overproduced, robotic, or untrustworthy. Because here's some hard truth: If your podcast is part of your business strategy, sound quality matters. It's not just about polish—it's about how your brand is perceived. And if you want your show to build authority, generate leads, and convert listeners into clients, then you can't afford to ignore how you sound. I'll share two AI tools my clients (and I) are using right now to quickly improve their podcast audio: Riverside's Magic Audio: A one-click sweetening tool for interviews and solo episodes. Adobe Podcast Enhance Speech (v2): A more customizable option that gives you control over voice clarity and background noise. But this episode isn't just about tools. I'll also walk you through: How AI audio sweetening actually works (and where it sometimes goes too far) What the “auto-tune” effect has to do with your podcast authority Why relying too much on AI can erode trust instead of building it The most important step to take before hitting record (hint: AI can't fix everything) What high-quality sound tells your audience about you, and what bad sound says, too If your goal is to use your podcast to grow your business, attract clients, and establish your authority in your space, then you have to sound the part. I've been in audio production for over 30 years, and even I've made the mistake of thinking gear or tools could replace preparation. (Yes, I share that story, too.) Want your podcast to actually drive leads and support your business growth? Check out the Podcast Tune-Up — a 6-step system to get your show aligned, optimized, and performing like a true marketing tool. You can go through it on your own or work with me directly. Managing medications shouldn't be this hard. For millions of people, it's a daily struggle—juggling prescriptions from multiple doctors, refilling at different pharmacies, and trying to keep track of what to take and when. Copays are confusing, refill schedules don't align, and the stress of managing it all often falls on caregivers. This isn't just an inconvenience—it's a crisis. Missed doses, medication errors, and the sheer administrative burden can lead to worse health outcomes and unnecessary stress for families. This is the problem Laura Jensen has spent her career tackling. Laura is the Director of Manufacturer & Provider Business Development at Amazon, where she worked to make pharmacy care more transparent, affordable, and accessible. Her journey began at PillPack, where she helped pioneer a model that brought the best of long-term care pharmacy into the homes of everyday patients. At Amazon Pharmacy, she built on that foundation to create a seamless, patient-centered experience that leverages technology to simplify medication management. She continues to drive innovation in healthcare, building on her deep expertise and passion for patient advocacy. In this episode, Laura shares her journey from PillPack to Amazon Pharmacy, the challenges of rebuilding pharmacy systems from the ground up, and her vision for a future where accessing medications is as easy as clicking “buy now.” She also opens up about how her upbringing as the daughter of a nurse shaped her perspective on healthcare and why patient advocacy is at the heart of everything she does. This is a conversation about innovation, empathy, and the power of technology to transform lives. Whether you're a healthcare professional, a caregiver, or someone who's ever struggled to manage medications, Laura's insights will inspire you. Slide, a new backup and disaster recovery appliance designed for managed service providers, was introduced by former Datto founders Austin McCord and Michael Fass at the right-of-boom cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas. The appliance, which is slightly larger than an Apple Mac Studio, boasts a storage capacity of up to 16 terabytes and operates at speeds capable of saturating a 10-gigabit network connection. McCord emphasized the appliance's speed and efficiency, claiming it is significantly faster than existing market solutions. The founders aim to foster a culture of connection and support, allowing users to easily cancel their service with a single click, which they view as a reflection of a customer-centric philosophy.Apple has unveiled its first in-house cellular modem, the C1, which will debut in the iPhone 16E, marking a significant step away from reliance on Qualcomm chips. The C1 modem is touted as the most power-efficient modem ever included in an iPhone, promising reliable 5G connectivity. While the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro will continue to use Qualcomm technology for the time being, Apple is strategically testing the C1 modem in a budget model to assess its performance without risking issues for premium users. This move aligns with Apple's broader goal of controlling its hardware stack and optimizing performance across its devices. In the realm of artificial intelligence, xAI has launched Grok 3, a new model that boasts enhanced capabilities and has been trained on a significantly larger dataset. The company plans to open-source Grok 2 to address previous criticisms regarding biases, while also introducing a new subscription plan for Grok 3.Lastly, the podcast discusses potential acquisition talks surrounding Trend Micro, a Japanese cybersecurity firm, which is reportedly valued at approximately $8.54 billion. The discussions involve several private equity firms, and if the acquisition goes through, it could lead to significant changes in Trend Micro's product roadmap and support structure. Additionally, Sophos has announced a partnership with Pax8 to streamline security management for service providers, indicating a trend towards consolidating vendor relationships in the cybersecurity space. This partnership aims to simplify access to a wide range of security solutions, although it remains to be seen whether Sophos can effectively compete with existing offerings in the marketplace.
