On this week's episode, I'm joined by Brandon Wainerdi to discuss DK's hefty and handsome new reference book, Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy. We discussed how he broke into writing about Star Wars, researching his entries for the book, and why so much of what we obsessives know about Star Wars comes not from the films but the surrounding products. Brandon's interview podcast, Talking Bay 94, is a must-listen if you're a fan of the series. I'll just say, on a personal note, that this is a really beautiful book: lots of illustrations, tons of information. If you have a precocious tween who loves Star Wars in your life, you could do much worse than this as a gift for them this Christmas. And if you enjoyed this episode, I hope you share it with a friend!

Welcome to a short but fun episode! We were very lucky to be able to participate in a roundtable interview, along with other great content creators, with the legendary DEE BRADLEY BAKER! His status as Star Wars royalty is undisputed, having voiced a plethora of characters in The Clone Wars along with all of the Batchers in The Bad Batch! Millennials might also recognize him as the voice of Olmec in Legends Of The Hidden Temple among so many other credits! Today we chat with Dee about his latest Star Wars project: Young Jedi Adventures! In it he plays the fan-favorite NUBS! It is definitely a 180 from the darker characters he has been voicing lately. This was definitely a great one, Dee is kind, and engaging and his answers are joyful and thought provoking! Thanks again to Lucasfilm for the opportunity! On this episode of Skytalkers, we join other Star Wars creators to talk to the director behind El Guiri's short in Star Wars Visions, “Sith,” Rodrigo Blaas. Charlotte asks Rodrigo about the droid design in “Sith” — plus she asks Rodrigo if he has any thoughts about how Lola's story continues after the short. Huge thanks to Lucasfilm for the opportunity, and to the other Star Wars fan creators for their great questions: Triad of the Force, Talking Bay 94, The Resistance Broadcast, Ahch-To Radio, Fantha Tracks, and Full of Sith. We are still thinking about Star Wars: Visions Vol. 2! All of the episodes were phenomenal, but El Guiri Studios' SITH definitely stands out to us as one of the stories we enjoyed the most. Today we're so very excited to present to everybody a roundtable interview we were able to participate in, where we talk with Rodrigo Blaas, the director of SITH! We were so lucky to be able to be a part of this, massive thanks to Disney and Lucasfilm for the opportunity. Everybody had some very interesting questions for Rodrigo, and he had some very insightful answers for us that really deepen our view of this episode. We hope you enjoy this interview! Let us know what you think of SITH! We were very fortunate to share the round-table with some of our community friends, among them: Talking Bay 94, Skytalkers, Ahch-To Radio, Full Of Sith, and Fantha Tracks. *Disclaimer: The audio of the interviewers asking their questions is not the best quality because it was recorded off of Rodrigo's mic, and not our own audio source. I attempted to edit the audio to have it be more intelligible with questionable results. If the questions' audio is not clear, I'll provide transcripts of the questions.* TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 Theme Music 0:16 Intro 3:54 Triad of the Force (first question) 7:32 Skytalkers (first question) 9:33 Talking Bay 94 11:31 The Resistance Broadcast 13:28 Ahch-To Radio 17:15 Fantha Tracks 20:31 Full Of Sith 22:37 Triad of the Force (second question) 25:29 Skytalkers (second question) 27:33 Ahch-To Radio (second question) 29:36 Outro • • • Triad of the Force is a channel which was featured on the Podcast Stage at Star Wars Celebration 2022 and 2023, featuring Nani, and Gus, lifelong Puerto Rican friends who after years of discussing the media they love, came together and created their show. Brandon Wainerdi is a journalist and podcaster. His podcast, Talking Bay 94, is beloved by Star Wars fans around the world for his unique conversations with people who MAKE Star Wars. From his website: TALKING BAY 94: A STAR WARS PODCAST Like seemingly every Star Wars fan out there, I started a podcast four years ago.I wanted to show my love of how these movies were made, while doing my part to preserve the stories, by recording an oral history of people who worked on them. It's been hard work and long nights, but over 130 episodes later, it has been worth it, cultivating a vibrant social community and tens of thousands of listens a month. The show features interviews with the cast, crew, and creators of Star Wars, including the winners of over 30 Academy Awards, and spanning all movies, TV shows, novels and comics. And, in May, it was showcased by Apple Podcasts as one of the “Top Star Wars Podcasts”.The Streaming Star Wars Network brings content to #StarWars Fans of all ages and generations. With Around the Galaxy, we bring you that magic moment when Star Wars fans meet for the first time. On Podcast of the Whills, we take a deep dive into the canon or a particular aspect of the saga. The band was formed in 2012 when a few longtime friends and high school classmates got together in a basement to cover their favorite songs. As the band grew and evolved they traded covers for original music and began to develop a live improvisational chemistry that would come to define their sound. They released their debut self-titled EP in January 2015, a blues and garage-rock influenced set that compiles four highlights from the band's early material. After the EP's release, the band took a drastic sonic turn, opting for more lush, mellow, and psychedelic textures. So get “On-Program” and join us as we share our current thoughts on episode 10, as well as a hugely informative roundtable interview with Andor's production designer, Luke Hull, and costume designer, Michael Wilkinson. Why the white on white color scheme for the prison? Luke Hull's production design sketches: We have our other Roundtable participants to thank for some amazing questions beyond our own: Jedi News; Fantha Tracks; Triad of the Force; That Gay Jedi; Star Wars Explained; Skywalking through Neverland; Talking Bay; Around the Galaxy; Ahch-To Radio. We're joined by the inimitable BRANDON WAINERDI, best known for his podcast TALKING BAY 94 (www.talkingbay94.com), to talk about the role MARCIA LUCAS played in the creation of the original Star Wars trilogy, her contributions to the New Hollywood of the 1970s, and her conspicuous absence from the popular narrative of both. And we speculate what may be behind her newfound willingness to talk about her work in public. Brandon's podcast is second to none for behind the scenes info on Star Wars featuring original interviews with those involved both behind and in front of the cameras. We had a blast talking about why Marcia Lucas has decided to emerge from the wilderness to tell her side of the story, most recently in her first on-camera interview in the recent Vice documentary ICONS UNEARTHED. What do I, Josh, have in common with Darth Vader and Mace Windu? It ain't my lightsaber skills, I'll tell you that much. Part of the concept of this podcast was to chart a personal journey through Star Wars, the ways my friends and I grew up with it and how it's intersected and shaped our lives. Our mental health episode was probably the most personal we've gotten so far, and probably paved the way for this week's installment. Fair warning: There's less overt Star Wars talk than usual, but we bring it back. Promise. I'm honored to be joined by guest MAYA CHUPKOV, whose podcast PROUD STUTTER literally gave me the confidence to keep doing Trash Compactor. We have a fascinating, vulnerable, and hopefully illuminating conversation about hidden challenges we all face and how we make them a part of ourselves. I hope you enjoy this one. Talking Bay 94 host Brandon Wainerdi joins us to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Shadows of the Empire! Shadows of the Empire, the 'movie without a movie' that returned Star Wars to the public consciousness a year before the release of the Special Editions, began to be rolled out 25 years ago this month. The multimedia blitz included an iconic N64 game, as well as a book, a comic, a toy line, a soundtrack and more – and we're exploring all of it this episode! From our memories of 1996 to our picks for a live-action Dash Rendar, this is a heartfelt celebration of an ambitious experiment that continues to impact the franchise today. Today is our 100th episode of Talking Bay 94, and I’m talking to the legendary Tony McVey: model maker, sculptor and character designer, who has worked on three generations of Star Wars. The designer of Salacious Crumb and sculptor of Sy Snootles, the Rancor and Gamorrean Guards for Return of the Jedi, Mr. McVey returned to bring Jar Jar, Geonosians, and Yoda to three dimensions for the prequels, and then once more to The Mandalorian, to help design already-iconic creatures like The Child and Kuiil. I can think of no better person to be our 100th interview. For a more in-depth look at his process and creations, definitely go to his Facebook page, which is jam packed with incredible models and sculptures: https://www.facebook.com/tony.mcvey.777 And so yeah, that is our 100th episode. I cannot believe that we’ve gotten to this point and to this milestone. I want to take this time to thank so many people: our guests, who have been so generous and gracious, our partners, who have helped make a lot of these interviews possible, and, of course, all of you, our fans, for supporting the show, listening every week, telling friends, reviewing us on Apple, and buying the merch. I, Brandon, want to especially thank Jason, the producer of this show, who tirelessly works behind the scenes with recordings and video call set ups and all the incredible graphics you see every week. He was the first person I texted with this idea, way back in 2017, and I am so grateful that he’s been on this journey with me ever since. It has meant much to hear from you all and to be welcomed into the Star Wars community with such open arms, over the past 3 years. And really, I just can’t wait to see what happens next. Today is Talking Bay 94 … Episode 94. So I wanted to do something special, especially after the announcement of The Book of Boba Fett series, as well as the very sad news of Jeremy Bulloch’s passing last week. Over the past few years of this show, we’ve been able to interview a lot of cast and crew members, who have put on the Mandalorian armor, who have helped design it, or who have brought it to life in other ways. What follows is a brief, chronological look at bringing Boba Fett to the screen for the Original Trilogy, from 1978 to the 1997 Special Editions, using clips from our past 94 episodes to do so. I’ll be introducing the people who will be talking beforehand, and there will also be some select archival clips from people we may not have been able to interview. If any of these seem interesting, definitely go back through our episode library to hear these full stories. Let’s all just buckle up, then, and listen to these talented people talk about their experience with everyone’s favorite Bucket Head. It is always so appreciated if you can leave a 5-star review of the show right here on your favorite podcast app, or on Podchaser: podchaser.com/TalkingBay94 Unedited transcripts of previous episodes are now available over at talkingbay94.com. Industrial Light & Magic digital artist and compositing supervisor Todd Vaziri has worked on every Star Wars movie since 2002, beginning with Attack of the Clones. Whether for the prequels (including the final duel on Mustafar), the sequels (figuring out the feel of a modern Star Wars movie), the spin-offs (helping to bring Tarkin and the Kessel Run to life), theme park rides (including Star Tours and Rise of the Resistance), or Stephen Colbert’s Green Screen Challenge, Mr. Vaziri’s passion for movie-making is evident in his every shot, and in his every answer on this episode, I’ve wanted him to be a guest on Talking Bay 94 for such a long time, and man, it was so worth the wait. Make sure you are following him on Twitter: @TVaziri … he is truly one of the best people to follow, period, on that app. This Friday, at 7:30 PM Central, we will be live again on Scener.com, breaking down Episode 4 of The Mandalorian Season 2. As an incredibly special Thanksgiving treat, today I am talking to Academy Award winner Craig Barron, who not only worked on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but has been a visual effects pioneer for decades, beginning with his start at Industrial Light & Magic as an 18 year old. This is the 50th episode of TALKING BAY 94 and, to celebrate accordingly, we’re talking to one of my heroes, one of the people who has been at the very top of the list to have on this show from the very beginning ... two time Academy Award winner, the legend: Phil Tippett. From the Cantina reshoots to the Dejarik chess table to the AT-AT stop motion to the ILM Return of the Jedi creature shop, Mr. Tippett was one of the driving forces of, not only the Star Wars world we know and love, but also the visual effects landscape as a whole. It is really an honor to have him on the show. I haven’t stopped smiling since. It was literally a dream come true. Be sure to visit MadGodMovie.com for information on how to watch his latest project and be sure to seek out Mad Dreams and Monsters, the new documentary about him, coming soon. It’s been fifty episodes and I am so grateful to you all for the listens, support and love. This has been an incredible journey with you all and, really, we’re just getting started. It was a real treat talking to today's guest: Nick Gillard, stunt coordinator for the Prequel Trilogy and father of the modern lightsaber technique. He is one of the unsung heroes of the making of these Star Wars movies. Mr. Gillard was so humble and so gracious, literally pulling over during a long car ride to talk to Talking Bay 94. During our short conversation, we get into a lot, from the skill of Ray Park to the twelve minute uncut version of the Mustafar fight to some of the lost duels which were never even filmed. This is it. After almost six months of recording and researching, this is the first ever episode of Talking Bay 94. This is a Star Wars podcast featuring the people who actually made Star Wars happen. This is a Star Wars podcast, simply, that interviews the people who were in Star Wars, who wrote for Star Wars, who lived Star Wars. Depending on when you listen to this, we’re releasing this on an important day in Star Wars history. May 25, 2018 marks the 35th anniversary of Return of the Jedi. Besides a few small pieces of Disney Store memorabilia, Lucasfilm has been surprisingly quiet surrounding the milestone. Especially amongst the rest of the movies, Jedi feels often overlooked. So the first few episodes of the podcast will be a mini-season of their own, interviewing some of the cast and crew from Return of the Jedi, celebrating that 35 years ago they were in a dimly lit studio in London that doubled as Jabba’s Palace or suffering through the scorching heat of the Yuma desert as creatures on Jabba’s Sail Barge. Our first and second interviews, released today, are a nice complement to each other: Corey Dee Williams and Stephen Costantino were bandmates in 1982, traveling together to the sail barge set in Arizona and ended being a part of the Star Wars universe. Their stories are unlike anyone else’s who were in Star Wars: fish-out-of-water tales, focused on friendship. If you have George Lucas’ email address, send it along. Otherwise, we’ll be plotting a course and figuring it out along the way. Thanks for tuning in and may the Force be with us! For more behind-the-scenes stuff, as well as a link to some of our other in-depth interviews, check out: Website: www.TalkingBay94.com Twitter: www.twitter.com/TalkingBay94 Our theme music is composed by Austin-based Michael Meadows.
