In this exploration of backstage food, Jaega Wise meets actors and musicians to find out how they eat to fuel their performance. The journey begins backstage at the Criterion Theatre in the West End, to meet stars of the hit musical Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) Dujonna Gift and Sam Tutty. From there Jaega chats to baker Stacy Donnelly who's provided thousands of real-life pies for Waitress the Musical on broadway, and gets advice from nutritionist and dietician Jasmine Challis on the best diet to fuel dancers. She also heads to Joe Allen's in Covent Garden, which is renowned for feeding Hollywood stars, and chats to author of “My Family and Other Rock stars”, Tiffany Murray, who's written a memoir about watching her Mum Joan acting as chef for performers of the 70s such as Queen, Black Sabbath and David Bowie. And finally she'll be getting to know popstar couple Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Richard Jones, to talk riders, eating on tour, and the breakfast Sophie can't do without.Presented by Jaega Wise and produced for BBC Audio Bristol by Tory Pope.

Tiffany Murray in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.hachette.co.uk/titles/tiffany-murray/my-family-and-other-rock-stars/9780349727530/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Family-Other-Rock-Stars-groundbreaking/dp/0349727538 It's the late 1970s and Tiff lives with her mum, Joan, at Rockfield, the iconic recording studios. This place of legend, where some of the most famous rock albums of all time were recorded, is the background to a freewheeling, ever-changing whirlwind of a childhood. Tiff's days are spent running around the farm, making friends with local wildlife and helping out with the endless array of dishes her mum creates to keep the bands fed. She's looking for a dog, she's looking for a father; but the one constant throughout is her and Joan, building an unconventional family in the most unlikely of locations. My Family and Other Rock Stars is Tiff's remarkable, truly unique story of growing up in a rural idyll, of Cordon Bleu cookery and of a childhood where the chances of bumping into Freddie Mercury playing piano, or a group of Hell's Angels turning up to record for Lemmy, or even the hope of David Bowie appearing, were as normal as hopscotch and homework.
Ever wondered what David Bowie liked to eat for dinner, or how the members of Queen wrote and rehearsed their famous “Galileos”? Tiffany Murray's new memoir invites us into the lives of 1970s rock nobility. Set at two recording studios, including the legendary Rockfield Studios where she was raised, her mother Joan was a chef for the likes of Black Sabbath and Motörhead. Georgina Godwin speaks to the author about Freddie Mercury's love for the family's great dane, her first encounter with drugs and vengeful neighbouring farmers in this enchanting account of the rural recording studio. Tiffany Murray joins Ray to share her unique upbringing which saw her in the company of some of the world's biggest rockstars. The Horslips were among them and Jim Lockhart & Barry Devlin from the band pop in for a bit of a reunion with Tiffany.
Clive is joined by impressionist Jan Ravens (who brings along Liz Truss and Theresa May) chatting about the challenge of developing an impersonation and what happens when the politician who forms part of your act gets the boot... Award-winning novelist Tiffany Murray describes her unusually starry childhood at the residential recording studio Rockfield. It includes a childhood visit from David Bowie and being woken by Freddie Mercury singing "Galileo" - as revealed in her new book My Family and Other Rock Stars. Viv Groskop chats about her One Ukrainian Summer a memoir about falling in love and coming of age in the former USSR. The Will Barnes Quartet and Aleighcia Scott provide the music. Call center workers employed by Maximus went on strike at four locations—in Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Virginia—this Tuesday, November 1. Maximus is a federal contractor, and during the open enrollment period workers there handle a non-stop stream of high-stakes calls from people trying to navigate the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid systems, but they have been pushed to their limit. As stated in a Twitter thread posted by Call Center Workers United, "We've been saying for years: during ACA open enrollment, we're dealing with constant back-to-back calls. Some frustrated callers become abusive and subject us to racist and sexist slurs. We're paid wages so low it's nearly impossible to support a family. We've had enough. We're striking for THREE SIMPLE DEMANDS: 1) $25/hr starting wage, 2) Time to breathe between calls, 3) Meaningful protection from abusive callers." In this urgent mini-cast, we talk to Tiffany Murray, a worker at the Maximus call center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, about the conditions that have pushed her and her coworkers to hit the picket line, and about what others around the country can do to help.Post-Production: Jules TaylorHelp us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer: Donate: https://therealnews.com/donate-podSign up for our newsletter: https://therealnews.com/newsletter-podLike us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/therealnewsFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/therealnews

There's a lot of talk these days about the "Mental Load" that mothers take on in modern society, but unfortunately not a lot of discussion around practical strategies to lessen the impact of this issue. Which is why it was such a delight to interview Tiffany Murray for this week's podcast episode. When I first met Tiffany earlier this year at a women's business conference, I was immediately drawn to her bubbly, confident nature, and oodles of natural charm. But it was when she started talking about the "wife" she hired to support her in running the family and household that my interest was really piqued. In this interview we chat about how it was that Tiffany (who also has an actual, legal husband) came to realise that she needed her own "hired wife" to support her, and how this arrangement works for her, her family, and her business. ps: I'll also be talking about the "mental mother-load" in next week's episode, and sharing my top tips for practical and sustainable ways to manage and reduce the mental load and its impact on our wellbeing.
