W/C 6th May 2024I love this song, and it is worth the slightly disjointed crowbarring to be able to share it with you this week.TBH I am becoming quite a Tears For Fears fan, they are seriously under-appreciated in the way that say Aha are. Maybe it is something to do with the early pop success that both had, but in both cases there is some serious creative stuff going on.Anyway have a listen and see what you think, I think it's a belter.Stay safe.P.S After the BBC News Theme tune the second best thing at the moment is the return of Dead Ringers on Radio 4 - if only for the Liz Truss impersonation that Jan Ravens absolutely nails...Break It Down Again - Tears for FearsBBC News Theme
Satire has been pronounced dead more times than disco. As the political world has lurched into chaos, satirists have struggled to match the absurdity of the figures they mock. But what happens if politics gets boring? Andrew Harrison is joined by Jan Ravens to find out how satire can survive beyond the next general election. • “Liz Truss's tragic flaw is that she hasn't grown up. She is still a little girl expecting approval.” – Jan Ravens • “Satire can't bring down the government, but it can attach an idea to people that they can never shake off.” – Andrew Harrison • “I'm very happy to do without my Liz Truss impression if it means we can do without her in any position of power whatsoever.” – Jan Ravens We are sponsored by Indeed. She recalls the way mental illness (and the stigma around it) shaped her family life, and reveals how working with others gave her back a sense of control after the strange end of her first marriage.
