Tom Condon, CT mirror. Discusses his piece, CT Transit bus ridership is recovering, in part because of free fares. What does this mean for long term sustainability. 

In April, when Connecticut's free fare program began, bus ridership was back to 70-75% of pre-COVID levels in Hartford, New Haven and Stamford. By the end of May, weekday ridership in the three cities reached nearly 90% of pre-COVID levels, with weekend numbers even higher, in part due to additional weekend service. In Killingworth, environmentalists and public officials are trying to stop the Boy Scouts of America from selling its wooded 252-acre Deer Lake Scout Reservation to a developer. The situation, including a lawsuit, is another example of the whack-a-mole approach conservationists are often forced to take to save some of the state’s dwindling supply of open land. In September, Gov. Ned Lamont announced that the White House would ask Connecticut to accept “as many as 310 Afghan refugees for resettlement in Connecticut.” The effort has gone better than expected. As of March 18, more than 700 Afghans had come to live in the state, more than double the original target, thanks to a well-coordinated public-private partnership created by Lamont and strong public support. Last fall Margaret Miner was skimming a New York Times article about how the University of Wisconsin had changed the names of two university theaters, in Madison and Oshkosh, because they had been named for an alumnus associated with the Ku Klux Klan. The name that had been removed from the theaters brought her up short: the renowned actor Fredric March. New research over the last few years has helped reduce racial disparities in traffic stops in several communities in Connecticut -- while also improving police effectiveness. That has been accomplished by encouraging police to focus almost entirely on roadway safety and not use traffic stops as a pretext to address other issues. In addition to reducing racial disparities, the system now could lead legislators to consider a significantly different approach to traffic stops. Sporting Limerick's Jack Neville caught up with one of Knockaderry GAA's finest and LimerickGAA stalwart Tom Condon to talk about his career and some of the best he has played with and against.

It’s no secret the pandemic has hit Connecticut’s economy hard. It’s also no secret that the Covid shutdown has hit the state’s black and latino communities the hardest. Pre-Covid, there were some more signs of life in Connecticut’s cities, especially in downtown areas. But those gains weren’t always felt in the neighborhoods. City residents have been saying this to political leaders for decades, and still, little was being done. The CT Mirror’s Tom Condon, a veteran reporter, has been exploring the different ways the state could make recovery more “inclusive.” This means everything from transportation and infrastructure improvements, to finding ways to get private investment into neighborhoods. The idea is called “inclusive growth,” and Tom has charted how it’s helped cities like Cleveland, Minneapolis, and Oakland. Since Jerry Maguire the idea of becoming an agent has grown massively in popularityThere are about 830 agents certified by the NFL Players Association — more than one for every three players in or around the league. Roughly 75 percent of NFL players are represented by just 17 percent of all certified agents, according to NFLPA statistics.The Super Agents rep about 75% of the NFL, then the rest battle it out for who is left.Guys like Tom Condon – who represents Drew Brees, Eli Manning, JJ Watt and Matthew Stafford amongst others – accounts for 1.4 billion in contracts alone.That is insane.But, that doesn't mean the business is closed out for people trying to break in. These super agents don't work alone, they have huge agencies. There are Undrafted free agents, like Patriots Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler who is represented by little known Derek Simpson. There are ways to make a name for yourself in this side of the sports industry if you truly want it.But how? What is the answer? What should you learn? What should you focus on? How do you land clients?Well, I have just the person to answer that for you. Jack Mills from Capital Sports Advisors – don't know Jack? Well, you should. He's the agent for #1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft Baker Mayfield. Or more of a CBA / contract negotiation job?4: You and I were connected by a mutual friend Zach Gross, and I give Zach a lot of credit, you were a panelist at the Sports Management Worldwide NFL Combine Career Conference and he identified you as someone he wanted to meet, and he struck up a conversation and has built a relationship with you since. How vital is it to be that personality type, the aggressive fearless, talk to anyone type, to be a successful agent?

With the NFL quarterback market starting to settle, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is set to agree to a hefty new contract extension with the team that will likely average just under $30 million dollars per year. Ryan's agent, Tom Condon, who had a deadline while working on a deal for New Orleans' quarterback Drew Brees, is now free to shift over to Ryan's deal. Ryan has all of the team's quarterback records and has been only the second quarterback to guide the franchise to the Super Bowl.
