Cuban exile turned CIA operative Ricardo “Monkey” Morales justifies his moniker by orchestrating decades of chaos in the world of international espionage. The legend of Cuban exile turned US government operative Ricardo Morales Navarrete has been known in espionage circles for decades. Dubbed “The Monkey” for his disruptive and unpredictable escapades, Morales grabbed headlines for decades as tales of his bombings, arrests, assassination attempts (both those he executed and those he suffered), and testimony constructed a real-life spy adventure unlike anything brought to page or screen. His story delves into diverse aspects of American history, including our nation's conflict with Cuba, our anti-communism military support overseas, JFK's story before and after the Bay of Pigs, and the explosion of the illegal narcotics industry in 1970s Miami. Morales was a contract agent for the CIA and a valuable asset for the FBI; he even shared how he'd met Lee Harvey Oswald at a CIA camp in Florida before JFK's assassination. Morales's counterintelligence skills-for-hire were also a prized utility for Cuban drug kingpins in Miami, many of whom were discarded ex-CIA operatives.Monkey Morales blends James Bond, Rambo, and Scarface—a concoction of danger, politics, and family drama told in its entirety for the first time by authors Sean Oliver and Morales's son, Ricardo Morales, Jr.https://amzn.to/48fcltTBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Send us a textWelcome to The Oncology Journal Club Podcast Series 3Hosted by Professor Craig Underhill, Dr Kate Clarke & Professor Christopher Jackson | Proudly produced by The Oncology NetworkWelcome to Episode 6 of The Oncology Journal Club podcast. This is where we take a famously different approach to oncology research.Has non-operative management finally found its place in treating certain cancers? This episode unpacks compelling new data that might challenge the surgeon's traditional role for some patients with mismatch repair deficient tumours. While rectal cancer patients show remarkable complete response rates to immunotherapy, the story gets more complex across different cancer types – raising fascinating questions about tumour biology, patient selection and the future of organ preservation. We explore the delicate art of discussing immunotherapy outcomes with patients, navigating that narrow path between hope and realism. When treatments occasionally produce dramatic responses but more commonly offer limited benefits, how do oncologists communicate effectively without creating unrealistic expectations? Our hosts share practical strategies for these challenging conversations, emphasising that truly patient-centred care requires ongoing dialogue about prognosis. The oncology research world is evolving too, with updated CONSORT and SPIRIT guidelines transforming how clinical trials are designed and reported. These frameworks now mandate greater transparency, clearer safety reporting and increased patient involvement in study design – potentially leading to more trustworthy and applicable research outcomes.Plus, we examine an intriguing Chinese trial showing remarkable survival benefits from low-dose continuous capecitabine combined with aromatase inhibitors for metastatic breast cancer – a potential game-changer for resource-limited settings. From this year's AACR meeting, we highlight what might be the first change in standard of care for locally advanced head and neck cancer in two decades, along with promising targeted therapies for specific molecular subtypes of lung cancer. Join our expert hosts Professor Craig Underhill, Dr. Kate Clarke and Professor Christopher Jackson as they navigate these developments with their trademark blend of critical analysis, clinical wisdom and humour. Would you like to be better at getting yourself to move? When you have an overall desire, but find yourself struggling to take the first step and just get going? I think we all do in certain areas of our lives and from what I experience it is getting worse. So I've brought on an expert and we're going to exaggerate the point to help us better conceptualize what is happening when we don't move and progress, and some different ways to go about it. Michele Rigby Assad was a normal person like everyone else. But through some circumstances you're about to hear of, she became a CIA operative and spent a decade working in the Middle East. She took part in the high-stakes missions you would expect from working in the CIA, where your life or other's lives are literally on the line. The place of danger they referred to as the X, and their training was that no matter what, they had to be able to get off the X. Michele has outlined the concepts with some intriguing stories, in a new book titled, Get Off The X: C.I.A. Secrets For Conquering Obstacles And Achieving Your Life's Mission. In this conversation, we don't spend time talking about the CIA, if you want to view that, she says go watch Homeland or The Agency. We talk about how the concepts of getting off the X relate to all of us. We live lives that feel high-stakes for us, and we need to…move. Progress. Get off the X's we are stuck in. I found Michele's guidance helping me not feel I needed more motivation or inspiration, I just needed to have some pragmatic tools and perspectives to employ.
