What if spy skills like influence, persuasion, and reading people could transform your life? Ex-British intelligence officer Julian Fisher joins Spybrary to reveal the 9 essential spycraft skills anyone can learn. In this revealing and thought-provoking episode of Spybrary, former British intelligence officer Julian Fisher joins Shane to discuss the central thesis of his new book, Think Like a Spy: that spy skills can be taught and used in everyday life. From mastering influence and reading people to building trust and understanding motivations, Fisher makes the case that espionage tactics aren't about deception—they're about deeper human connection. Along the way, Fisher shares his personal journey, including his principled resignation over the Iraq War, insights from his time in both public and private intelligence, and his take on what popular spy fiction gets right (and wrong). In this episode of the Very Dental Student Podcast, host Mohamed Abo-Basha and Dr. Alan Mead discuss his journey through the fall semester of his D4 year. We discuss Mo's recent experiences with dental boards and externships as he approaches graduation. Mo shares that the dental boards have recently changed, moving away from live patient exams to mannequin-based clinical testing (Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontics already completed, Operative to follow) and computer-based written boards. He expresses that this change is a positive step ethically. Clinically, Mo is nearing completion of his requirements, only needing a few more Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) cases. He also details his externships, which provided valuable experience in high-volume operative and extraction procedures at a low-fee clinic and a mobile unit, significantly boosting his speed and confidence in procedures like administering anesthesia and performing quick, effective patient exams. Looking ahead, his final semester will primarily involve a Surgical Implantology class and serving as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for first-year operative students, which he anticipates will be a rewarding experience. Craig Unger explores rumors of an "October Surprise"—a Republican deal to delay the hostages' release—which gained credence when former NSC official Gary Sick published an op-ed. Unger spoke to rogue Israeli operative Ari Ben Mashi, who alleged Bill Casey met with Iranians in Madrid in July 1980. Ben Mashi claimed Casey violated the Logan Act and an arms embargo by offering weapons in exchange for a delay in the hostage release until after the election. Ben Mashi also alleged Vice Presidential nominee George H.W. Bush attended a subsequent meeting in Paris in October 1980 to finalize the agreement. Unger's published findings in Esquire led him to join Newsweek to continue the investigation. Guest: Craig Unger.
Explore expert tips for post-operative ACL rehab, including avoiding pitfalls like lacking extension & recommended biofeedback units. Q: What is your favorite phase of post-operative care for ACL repair? A: Phase 2 is a favorite because the athlete is getting off the table, which is exciting both mentally and physically. During this phase, significant gains are made, and progress continues toward returning to running. Q: What is your biggest tip to avoid pitfalls, such as lacking extension, in post-operative care? A: Consistently checking and actively feeling for extension daily is crucial. Make it a habit and an integrated part of the treatment flow to catch any issues early. Even a little bit of load when athletes start doing more of their daily activities can affect extension, so early detection is key. Q: Is lacking extension from one treatment to the next a red flag? A: It is not necessarily a red flag, but it should definitely be noted. This observation prompts consideration of what might have changed between sessions that could have caused the lack of extension. For example, it might indicate that too much activity was introduced. Q: Should fibular head mobilizations be immediately used for lacking extension? A: No, one should not immediately jump to using fibular head mobilizations. However, they can be a successful intervention in certain cases. Q: Can this ACL rehabilitation program be used for other surgeries? A: The framework of this ACL rehabilitation program can definitely serve as a guide for other knee surgeries. However, modifications are necessary based on the specific structures that have been surgically altered. For example, a meniscus repair would require avoiding weight-bearing, unlike an isolated ACL reconstruction. Q: What biofeedback units do you recommend? A: I recommend Mtrigger. It's an app-based unit with an easy setup, and it can be used more functionally beyond just table exercises. Additionally, it is versatile and can be applied in various other post-operative cases.

In our last episode, author Stuart Reid peeled back the curtain on 'The Lumumba Plot,' the CIA's plan to assassinate Patrice Lumumba, the first democratically-elected Prime Minister of the Congo. Station Chief Larry Devlin was central to the CIA's 1960 assassination plot. He never had to carry it out, but Lumumba was later killed in another plot that Devlin knew about, according to diplomatic cables released in 2013. Today, we'll share more of our conversation with Stuart Reid. But first, we're going back into our archives to bring you Devlin in his own words. In 2007, a year before he passed away, Devlin sat down with the International Spy Museum's Founding Director Peter Earnest to talk about his time in the Congo. Freemasons at the highest leadership levels are deeply involved in running UFO related programs in the US military and corporate contractors, according to Daniel Morris Salter who worked for over a decade with the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). At levels above 33rd degree, Freemasons are compromised by Satanism which Salter claimed in a 2001 Disclosure Project video interview is “the greatest threat that the American people face at this time."Salter worked for over 20 years with the US Air Force before joining the NRO in 1968 due to his expertise in electronic communications and tracking UFO activity. He was part of a team of covert operatives whose task was to persuade witnesses not to talk about their UFO-related experiences. After completing his NRO career, Salter decided to go public in 1997 with what he had learned. His grandsons, Daniel and Derek have spent the past 20 years or more searching for the truth about their grandfather's involvement in the military, his message regarding UFOs and our human interaction with advanced civilizations throughout our universe, and throughout time (past, present and future encounters).Daniel and Derek's YouTube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/@clrthought3341/
3. Learning Tradecraft on the Job: Heidi August's Rise from Clerk to Operative Liza Mundy Book: The Sisterhood: The Secret History of Women at the CIA Heidi August proved her competence in Africa, learning tradecraft such as making dead drops. While working in Europe for David Whipple—an eccentric and anti-feminist mentor—she continued to develop her logistical skills, often running operations and handling people being exfiltrated from Soviet-occupied countries. Although Whipple preached against "women's lib," he recognized Heidi's capabilities. Unlike male case officers (the "fighter pilots of the CIA") who received prestigious training at "the farm," Heidi, hired as a clerk, learned her skills on the job. She eventually demonstrated the skills of a recruiter when she initiated a recruitment against Whipple's initial rejection, targeting a woman clerk from another country. She used elicitation skills to identify the target's vulnerability—a desire for revenge against her bosses—and successfully obtained critical communications technology, cementing her reputation as a capable officer.

We love getting requests from listeners for podcast topics. This request came from geriatricians we met at the annual American Geriatrics Society meeting in Chicago. They wanted to know more about what a geriatrician should do in a pre-operative risk assessment. So we invited Vicky Tang and Houman Javedan, two geriatricians and leaders in the pre-operative assessment and prehab space, to talk with us. As is our style, we backed up to some bigger questions, including: -Why do patients need a geriatric assessment pre-operatively?-Why are our surgical colleagues asking us? Is it due to liability concerns? -Why do we do them? Recognizing we may have different motivations than our consultants (hint: stealth geriatrics) -How does the comprehensive geriatric assessment fit int? Do the 4Ms fit into pre-operative assessment if at all? (an entertaining disagreement ensued) -Must a geriatrician do this? -What is the Geriatric Surgery Verification Program? -What's the most important part of Many links from our guests below.
