Christmas is coming, and so is the unhinged consumerism. Jemma and Marina kick off with Quality Street meltdowns, £9 hot chocolates and the most pointless gifts known to humankind, before swan-diving into the real seasonal horror: politics.Meanwhile, across the pond, Trump's week has been a carnival of chaos. From Oval Office rants and sexist jabs at reporters, to killing-without-trial allegations involving his newly promoted “War Secretary” Pete Hegseth, and a wildly hypocritical pardon, your jaws will be left on the floor. Then it's Venezuela, airspace brinkmanship, and a potential war brewing while MAGA pretends everything's fine. There are billionaire bros at the Ukraine-Russia peace table, a leaked “peace plan” which looks like a kleptocrat's wish list.Crazy geo politics, Christmas rage, capitalism on steroids, Vogue's worst recipe crime and an Underrated of the Week that'll make you cry-laugh.Another wild week. It's been a week of karaoke meltdowns, pleather-skirt floor-crawling and a rusty saw nightmare… and yet Marina and Jemma are more determined than ever to get behind the mic to discuss the latest batshittery from the world of news and politics. They dive into the spectacular chaos of Your Party, and ponder the finally-we're-saying-it-out-loud national acceptance that Brexit is absolute dogshit, before analysing an absurd week of headlines that prove the tabloids are still going for Rachel Reeves with pretty vicious vengeance. There's also some tree-surgeon flag-shaggery, Reform UK chaos and the delicious irony of David Coburn shouting about sovereignty from his French château. Plus: Jonathan Gullis has swapped sinking ships. It's a packed, punchy, unhinged week - so pretty standard - enjoy!Thank you for sharing and please do follow us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Marina and Jemma meet actress, Loose Woman and all round legend Nadia Sawalha. The Trawl ladies couldn't wait to chat to Nadia and to find out what it's been like using her huge Instagram platform to speak out about Gaza and to advocate for the Palestinians. They talk about juggling life as a Loose Woman whilst having a political voice, the consequences of speaking out and what her guilty pleasures are. There's relationship chat and Jemma finds out for sure, something she's suspected for a while. A warm, funny chat with a wonderful woman. In this Trawl, Jemma and Marina dive into the political earthquake shaking Reform UK after former Welsh leader Nathan Gill was jailed for taking bribes linked to pro-Russian interests. With the party insisting there's no need for an internal investigation, social media has been left... unconvinced. We pick through the online reaction, the disbelief, and the dark humour as Westminster scrambles to respond. From Farage's denials over his own past controversies to questions about transparency inside Reform, the timeline is an absolute mess and the internet has thoughts.Plus: the memes, the meltdowns, and the moments that defined a week where one conviction sets off a political chain reaction.Thank you for sharing and please do follow us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Brace yourselves, trawlers... Marina and Jemma are back and flailing through another chaotic week online. In this episode they dive into everything: Musk's unhinged Grok responses, the bot-farm MAGA fiasco, and a Musk appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast that is so painfully sad it should come with a health warning. Then it's onto the budget: the leak, the playground antics from Kemi Badenoch's and the most compelling and layman's terms summary of the whole thing you'll ever hear. There's ranting, there's cackling, and there's an incredibly moving moment from Channel 4's Go Back To Where You Came From documentary, plus Mike Graham (who now has a lot of spare time on his hands), manages to be more unhinged than ever. It's beginning to look a lot like chaos, Trawlers! In this 'starting to feel' festive-but-feral episode, Jemma and Marina wade through glitter explosions, Christmas tree catastrophes and a BBC News bauble-gate blooper before heading straight into the most unexpected love story of the season: Donald Trump going full heart-eyes for New York's new Mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani. What was meant to be an explosive Oval Office showdown somehow turned into a political rom-com, complete with cheesy poses and Trump posting Mamdani like a teenage crush. We unpack the memes, the madness and the moment Trump's ego got speared by Cupid. But don't get too cosy because from there it's back to the grim stuff: Trump resharing posts calling for Democrats to be hung, a “peace plan” for Ukraine that appears to have been written in Moscow, Europe's furious backlash, and the Kremlin fingerprints smeared all over MAGA's online army.Plus a bang-on satirical closer from Alex With Pen.It's festive, furious and fully unhinged - exactly how you like it. In episode 297 of the podcast, we look back on 25 years of Papa Roach's “Infest”.We dig into our early memories of the record, how we were the perfect age for a band like Papa Roach and this record in particular, its explosion once “Last Resort” took hold, its legacy and Papa Roach becoming massive to this day, and so much more. This record still held up for us, so we had to give it the Podioslave treatment. We start the episode with a game surrounding some of the eras nu metal titans and how they are just as relevant today as ever. Jemma and Marina are back, sifting through another load of digital debris so you don't have to. Luckily, the weekend is in sight… though Christmas is also looming, the cosi-livs crisis continues to chew through bank accounts, and the UK's politicians? Well, they're arguing amongst themselves as usual. The Trawl ladies check in on the incoming budget, beautifully skewered by Cody Dahler, before plunging into the asylum “crackdown” that many Labour backbenchers are struggling to defend. Jemma and Marina explore the prospect of refugees building 15 years of life in the UK… only to be told “tara mate, off you pop” when their home country is reclassified as “safe”.LBC's Tom Swarbrick is quite happy with what's being mooted, but the Greens are not having it. Zack Polanski blows a gasket, at Labour's “give us your jewellery” approach.Marina and Jemma talk polling, panic, the pointless race to the bottom and why none of this actually solves the inequality at the heart of the problem. Then, in true Trawl fashion, they veer sideways to a DOGE update, and a chef's-kiss Pudding from Munya Chawawa.Another week. Another avalanche of nonsense. This is Part 2 of an Epstein emails Trawl deep dive. Once again, Marina and Jemma dive into the online storm surrounding newly unsealed Epstein-related documents and the political reactions that have set social media ablaze. From Megyn Kelly's widely-shared comments to the way his most cultish followers are handling it, the Trawl ladies explore how the discourse spiralled, who said what, and why the internet collectively has lost its mind.Jemma and Marina also look at the New York Times' much-mocked headline, examine how different factions are spinning the story, and discuss what these reactions reveal about broader culture-war dynamics. It's a wild week online — chaotic, furious, meme-heavy — and The Trawl is wading through it so you don't have to.Thank you for sharing and please do follow us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This Trawl comes in TWO PARTS because there was simply too much to cram into just one episode. This episode has Jemma and Marina diving face-first into the internet's latest swamp: the Elon–Trump–Epstein–AI hell-spiral nobody asked for but everybody is talking about. From Grok's “alternative facts” rewriting reality in real time, to the newly released Epstein emails, which are lighting up X like a Christmas tree in hell, they break down the stories the press are tiptoeing around. The ones Fox News would rather swallow its own tongue than cover.Marina and Jemma look at what the emails actually show, wonder who Bubba might be and have a live 'this is two episodes' moment. There's also 'that' Piggy moment to rage at and Marjorie Taylor Greene's epiphany to discuss. It's politics, chaos and receipts — trawled so you don't have to. I had a brilliant conversation with Marina Purkiss, a political commentator known for her straight-talking, highly opinionated perspective on current affairs. Marina shared how her political journey began by simply putting out tweets, which grew into a large platform. We discussed how political apathy is a privilege , and for many, including Marina, the Brexit referendum was the wake-up call that made politics impossible to ignore. Marina opens up about the challenges of political commentary, from being threatened with lawsuits to dealing with the chilling online abuse and sexism, particularly the vitriol directed at women. She expresses the deep rage she feels over the hypocrisy and incompetence of bad actors in politics. We also delve into the necessity of women bringing their true selves to power, and the importance of community and catharsis—like that found in her podcast, The Trawl—to manage the mental toll of being engaged in an overwhelming world.
Mark is joined by Marina Purkiss and Jemma Forte — the outspoken hosts of The Trawl — to talk about the state of British politics, why humour is a vital weapon against despair, and how compassion got lost in the shouting. They discuss Labour's moral drift, the Green Party's rise, and what it means to stay human in a political landscape fuelled by fear. Expect sharp wit, rage, and even a baked potato scandal involving Prince Andrew. Please do check out Marina and Jemma's podcast “the trawl” available on all platforms! In this episode of The Trawl, Jemma and Marina dive head-first into a planet-sized pile of billionaire bullshit — starting with the news that Elon Musk is on track to become the world's first trillionaire. Yes, trillionaire. As in: “bigger than the GDP of Saudi Arabia” trillionaire. They roll out a brand-new listener-made jingle for the “Trickle Down Update of the Week” and ask: What on earth is Tesla doing? internet? And as the Epstein situation develops, Trump is playing chicken with the food-stamp programme that keeps 42 million Americans fed. Payments frozen, families panicking, the Supreme Court involved, and Trump using hunger as a bargaining chip. Marina and Jemma discuss the fallout, the food-bank queues, the voters caught in the middle, and the grim Oval Office moment that shows exactly how little he cares. Then: chaos at The New York Times, where a catastrophically misjudged opinion piece sparks the question: who keeps approving this?!And finally, JoJoFromJerz delivers pudding - a clip that lands somewhere between cathartic, furious, poignant and funny.Enjoy!Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. From baked potatoes to pension raids, it's another rollercoaster week in the weird and woeful world of UK politics.Jemma and Marina pay tribute to the glorious Pauline Collins, salute a life well lived, and then plunge straight into the nation's latest highs and lows, including the latest (Not Prince) Andrew news. It involves a late night snack and what amounts to culinary catastrophe frankly. Somehow this segues into chat about Kim K's thongs with a difference, and Rachel Reeves apparently testing just how unpopular she can make saving for retirement.Throw in a Tory montage, some tax turmoil, and a side of existential dread, and you've got a trawl that's equal parts hilarious and horrifying.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This week on The Trawl, Jemma Forte and Marina Purkiss are knee-deep in the latest wave of outrage from poppy politics to a BBC in apparent crisis. As Remembrance Sunday came and went, the usual suspects found new ways to weaponise the poppy, turning a moment of reflection into yet another battle in the culture war. Jemma and Marina unpick the hypocrisy, the viral clips, and the veteran being used for clicks. Then, it's onto the Beeb: two top resignations, a leaked memo, and a right-wing press party that smells blood. Is this really about “bias” or something far more coordinated? The pair dive into how the BBC's latest wobble has been spun into a full-blown assault on public broadcasting. With new jingles (thank you, Simon Brown), the usual sound effects, and plenty of righteous rage, this is The Trawl doing what it does best — diving deep into the week's digital nonsense so you don't have to.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 295 of the podcast, we're joined by Randy Bradbury (guitars/vocals) and Cameron Webb (bass) of the SoCal punk bank 84 Days. We dig into the formation of the band, how quickly the idea came together to create a full length, their friendship throughout the years as collaborators, working with Adrian Young of No Doubt on the drums, and their stellar new self-titled album that just dropped on Double Helix Records. You can tell listening to Cameron and Randy talk that they've been a great team for years. Whether it be Cameron producing Randy and Pennywise's material, or in this new venture with 84 Days. It's a week of whiplash on The Trawl. Marina and Jemma begin with words - literally - as they find the perfect Susie Dent–style term to capture the emotional chaos of the moment. From there, it's a hard swerve into horrors too big to scroll past: Netanyahu's meltdown over leaked footage from a detention centre, the ongoing genocide in Sudan, and why it's practically impossible to absorb it all.But even in the darkness, the absurdities keep coming. Trump throws a “Great Gatsby” party (because of course he does), JD Vance gets intimate AF on stage with Erika Kirk and Marina and Jemma have a chat about the pros and cons of plether leggings. In the Under Rated section Billie Eilish restores a little faith in humanity by donating $11 million to feed the hungry. From genocide to greed, from linguistics to lunacy, Jemma and Marina trawl through a week that shows us the best and worst of what we are.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Marina and Jemma are riding a rare and glorious wave of optimism because on November 5th, New York City elected Zohran Mamdani as mayor. A progressive, principled, hope-restoring human who didn't just beat the billionaire class - he trounced them. The internet rejoiced, Fox News melted down, and various billionaires were left clutching their pearls.Marina and Jemma revel in the joy of seeing an actual adult take charge, explore the ripple effects of Mamdani's win from Mississippi to Manhattan, and ask the big question: could Britain ever have its own Mamdani moment? Over to you Zack Polanski.Plus: Prince Andrew's latest rebrand, a Piers Morgan self-own and a glorious Cody Dahler pudding.A hopeful scroll through the best kind of timeline where decency wins, billionaires sulk, and Jemma cries more than she did at the John Lewis Christmas ad.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This week on The Trawl, Marina and Jemma wade through a week so grim it makes the John Lewis Christmas ad look like a cry for help. From Rachel Reeves' gloomy pre-budget spin to Nigel Farage's bright idea that young people should earn less (apparently poverty builds character), the Trawl ladies cover it all. There's a reality check on the cost of living, a brutal look at the online reaction to the LNER train stabbings, and a dose of festive existentialism courtesy of Waitrose and a raver dad. It's politics, propaganda and pudding bowls of hypocrisy — all served with the usual mix of outrage, wit, and a few well-aimed “go f*** yourselfs”.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 294 of the podcast, we chat with Marcos Siega, director of some of our favorite music videos of all time. We dig into Marcos' roots as a NYHC kid, his start in directing with music videos, and we drill down on videos from Papa Roach, System of a Down, Blink-182 and many others. Marcos is a music nerd at heart, just like us, so naturally we loved getting the behind the scenes of some of the biggest music videos of the late 90s and early 2000s. Check out Marcos' work on Dexter: Resurrection, You, Dexter: New Blood and countless other projects. Nigel's on strike because he's not getting enough questions at PMQ'S (widdums), Reform's spending a lot of money on flags, and Trump's throwing tariffs about whenever he has a tantrum. This week The Trawl is overflowing with fragile egos, bad maths and moral bankruptcy.Marina and Jemma pick apart Nigel Farage's latest pity party, Trump's gold-plated meltdown over a Canadian ad, and the jaw-dropping Gaza “masterplan” that sounds more like a property pitch than diplomacy. There are of course moments of actual joy: Finland's women-led happiness and some cracking Under Rated's.All that, plus jokes, rage, and the sort of catharsis only The Trawl can deliver.Enjoy!Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. It's a proper shit sandwich this week, Trawlers — a little light snack, a heavy main course and a very hopeful bite to finish. Followed, of course, as ever by a delicious pudding. This episode starts with bad news for snack lovers - Penguin bars are no longer technically chocolate (cheers, climate change). Then, Jemma and Marina bite into the grim meat of it all: the racism notch in British politics. From Reform MP Sarah Pochin's rant about “too many foreigners in adverts” to Katie Lam's calls for “cultural coherence,” it's open season for dog whistles. Marina and Jemma discuss how this stuff stopped being whispered and started being cheered. Though rest assured they've also trawled away and come up with plenty of wonderful clips and takes to offset it all, because it goes without saying, millions of people do not feel the same. Which brings them onto the recent council by- election results and what happened in Caerphilly. Wonderful. Reform's balloon well and truly popped.Details of the charity art auction that Jemma mentioned are as follows - ART AUCTION FOR PALESTINE : BID FOR HOPE auction hosts @wynnesteve & @hanazidek . This week on The Trawl, Jemma and Marina wade through a global cesspit of power, propaganda and, quite literally, poo. From Donald Trump's unhinged AI fantasy, featuring himself as a crowned Top Gun pilot dropping actual sewage on protesters, to the real-life horror of leaked GOP group chats filled with racist bile, America is plumbing new depths. Meanwhile, back in Blighty, Tesco's being called out, M&S thinks it's Harrods, and the Palace is in a PR panic as Prince Andrew's name re-enters the headlines ahead of Virginia Giuffre's posthumous memoir.Thank goodness for characters like Zohran Mandami who aren't afraid to hold powerful men to account for their sleazy misdemeanours and indeed crimes. There's hypocrisy, hubris, and high-octane nonsense on both sides of the pond — plus your usual Underrated Clips and Tweets of the week. Grab your waders, Trawlers. It's a murky one.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This Week on The Trawl it's winners and losers time... and Reform appear to be losing in a rather spectacular fashion. Marina and Jemma break down the implosion: Russian ties, disappearing councillors, and a Kent council Zoom meltdown that makes Jackie Weaver look like a stateswoman. Oh, and Nigel Farage's partner? She's now reportedly embroiled in a criminal probe over alleged EU fund fraud. Suddenly it's all looking a bit spicy...Meanwhile, the Greens are quietly stacking up wins, the Lib Dems are snatching by-elections, and Reform's “party of business” can't even file VAT properly. If this is their political auditions, they're flunking hard. Then it's the Aston Villa vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv saga, where British politicians united to defend a fanbase banned for racist violence. The outrage machine kicked into action and Starmer ended up looking like a massive bell after the Israeli police banned their own fans - unless of course they're antisemitic too? Plus: Celia Imrie's viral moment, Traitors spoilers (don't worry, none here), and Tommy Robinson's baffling football pivot to Tel Aviv Yellow. It's football, farce, and fury - with a side of righteous indignation.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 292 of the podcast, we give MGMT's first album, ‘Oracular Spectacular', the Podioslave treatment. We're joined by friend of the pod, Kevin K. AKA “PRJCT MGR”. We dig into our early memories of the record, the production, the perfect side A, and everything in between. This record was a monster in the moment, and hold's up extremely well. Jemma and Marina begin by playing tribute to the incomparable Diane Keaton, Hollywood icon and absolute legend, who sadly died on October 11th at the age of 79.Then, the Trawl ladies dive headfirst into the political mayhem: there are some Zack Polanski clips to stir you up and news on how the Greens are seeing a surge in popularity and indeed the polls, which can only be attributed to his refreshing approach. His style of comms is best demonstrated during a moment of “Penis Chat” chaos courtesy of Piers Morgan (of course).Marina and Jemma unpack why boldness matters so much in this political moment, how one CEO proved trickle-down economics is a con, and why Farage's latest U-turn reeks of desperation. Plus: there's Russian connections, media silence, soybeans (yep), and a truly excellent pudding.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Trump really wanted a Nobel Peace Prize. Trump didn't get a Nobel Peace Prize. And we're starting this week's Trawl with that delicious fact. From his ego-fuelled reaction to the prize going elsewhere, to his grotesque grandstanding in Israel and Egypt, it's all in this episode. Trump is centre stage of course, having engineered a ceasefire and subsequent deal which is now to be thrashed out by various leaders, just not the Palestinian authorities.Marina and Jemma discuss it all, the ceasefire, Netanyahu, Starmer's attempts at diplomacy cosplay, Trump forcing world leaders into awkward praise, and the very sinister undertones behind the right's rhetoric. There's even a Roman historian moment, and of course… PUDDING.Pudding is a beautiful poem by Hussain Manawar. It's called Unity - Enjoy! At time of record, the world is waiting to see if a peace deal in the Middle East has been achieved. Jemma and Marina hope with every bit of them it happens but also discuss what it might, or might not mean, in reality. Then they pay tribute to some remarkable women - Jilly Cooper, and Dr. Jane Goodall - trailblazers in their own right who entertained, inspired, and made the world better. They also touch on a very Trawly online spat featuring none other than Livia Firth, serving up some chef's kiss sass to Esther McVey.Then they wade into the Tory conference because..... someone has to. Kemi Badenoch is channelling Doge and Musk and wants to emulate ICE, Chris Philp delivers a speech that could double as a David Brent sketch, and they can't spell.Across the pond, Trump's mask slips even further as Project 25 edges closer to reality. Fascism's no longer hiding and America's veterans and voters are reacting. But with key right-wing voices starting to break ranks and Democrats finally showing some teeth, is a turning point coming? Finally, this week's pudding is a moving final message from the incomparable Jane Goodall. This week, Marina's on holiday and Jemma's steering the ship so expect one or two Trawl anomalies to have slipped through the net and, honestly, what a week to be at the helm. The Trawl ladies cover the horrific attack on the Jewish community in Manchester, Starmer's reaction, the subsequent mosque attack, and what happened to the flotillas carrying desperately needed aid that never made it through. Greta Thunberg proves, once again, she's got more moral clarity than most world leaders, while Trump and Tommy Robinson… do not.Meanwhile, Labour manage to disappoint on an Olympic scale, cracking down further on protest, while Zack Polanski reminds us what principled politics can actually sound like. This week, Jemma and Marina are asking: what if politicians actually faced consequences? Not a cosy resignation, not a fat book deal, not a pity gig on GB News - but actual jail time. A girl can dream...Sounds like science fiction if you live in Britain, but elsewhere in the world it's apparently… a thing. In Brazil, Bolsonaro just bagged 27 years in prison for trying to cling to power - proof that karma occasionally gets out of bed. In France, Sarkozy is staring down five years for a Gaddafi-linked corruption scandal (yes, that Gaddafi - the one with the all-female bodyguard squad). And in Nepal? Gen Z set fire to Parliament and voted in a new Prime Minister while ministers literally dangled from rescue helicopters. Meanwhile here in the UK, our big act of rebellion is 100,000 plus raking to the streets to protest the exact things billionaires and think tanks told them to be mad about. Across the pond, Trump has decided Portland is a “war zone” and sent in troops - only to be met with locals posting pictures of rainbow-knitted trees, therapy llamas and burrito joints. So buckle up for another trawl through political carnage: from world leaders in courtrooms, to wannabe despots in helicopters, to Britain's unique ability to turn corruption into a career move.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Jemma and Marina are back, rummaging through the week's digital wreckage and pulling out the bits that made us laugh, rage, and despair in equal measure. We start, bizarrely, with golf. Yes, golf. The Ryder Cup turned into a geopolitical soap opera, with Rory McIlroy flying the flag, throwing shade, and still finding time to get soppy about his wife. Then it's on to the Labour Party conference, a rollercoaster of highs and lows and touch upon Starmer's interview with Laura Kuenssberg which was promptly chewed up and spat out by all the usual suspects to misquote him into oblivion.Meanwhile, Reform proved once again that when they're not playing victim which appears to be their new schtick, they're busy starring in their own corruption scandal. One of their ex-leaders has pleaded guilty to eight counts of bribery. Eight. Not even Tories manage those numbers.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In this episode of The Trawl, Jemma and Marina wade through a feed overflowing with madness - from world-shifting diplomacy to unhinged Trump theatrics.Three nations, the UK, Canada, and Australia, finally recognized Palestinian statehood, prompting Netanyahu to double down on annexation and fury. Meanwhile, the US stands alone at the UN, vetoing yet another ceasefire resolution, a move Amnesty chillingly called a “greenlight for annihilation.”Over in Trump's America, the circus rolled on: Charlie Kirk's bizarre stadium funeral (complete with merch stalls and voter booths), Trump accidentally DM'ing his attorney general in public, and Jimmy Kimmel getting briefly cancelled for daring to mock Donny. Disney silencing dissent and a White House openly threatening the press. Democracy is hanging by a thread.Plus: late-night hosts fighting back, satire that hits a little too close to home, and this week's Under Rated of the Week. All the news, none of the doom-scrolling.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Trump's in town and it's every bit as grotesque as you'd imagine. From lavish royal dinners and tech-bro fawning, to unhinged speeches, salutes from GB News presenters, and Sadiq Khan becoming the scapegoat for everything wrong with Britain. Marina and Jemma pick apart the circus and wonder what Charles and Camilla must have made of it all. But the chaos doesn't stop there: while Starmer is trying to contain the Trumps, Corbyn and Sultana's “Your Party” collapses before it even gets going. So, No one's party then? Meanwhile, Reform are busy demanding more money for Andrea Jenkyns' inbox while plotting another Windrush scandal.Still, amid the nonsense, there are glimmers of hope - from the Greens cutting through to heart-warming pudding clips that remind us humanity isn't all bad.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 288 of the podcast, we're joined by Pat Cozens, vocalist of the hardcore punk band Restraining Order. We dig into Pat's come up, the formation of the band, signing to Blue Grape Music, and their awesome new album, ‘Future Fortune', out everywhere. Pat is a real one, and this new album has a timeless sound we think you'll dig. This week on The Trawl, Jemma and Marina take aim at Keir Starmer's increasingly head-scratching judgment. From brushing off genocide rulings to parachuting in Peter Mandelson (the man that keeps reappearing like old mildew), with his Epstein-adjacent connections. Meanwhile Donald Trump lands in the UK (awkward timing, given his own Epstein ties) to some not so kind welcomes, and the Royal Courts of Justice decide to jet-wash a Banksy mural off their walls. Throw in some deliciously naughty underrated tweets of the week, and you've got another episode that says the things other podcasts tiptoe around.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Gary Lineker boots Ant and Dec off their 23-year throne to win Presenter of the Year at the NTAs – and in doing so, delivers a perfectly tailored two fingers to the BBC. We bask in his glory before plunging into darker waters: the shocking murder of Charlie Kirk in Utah, the grotesque opportunism that followed, and the rank hypocrisy of those who once worshipped at the altar of “free speech.”Then to London, where Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk headline the biggest far-right rally in years – complete with MAGA hats, flag-burning and chants of “send them home.” We pick through the bile, the lies about numbers, and what this march tells us about the hollowing out of our national life. Jemma and Marina discuss at length what follows a very bleak week of news and find it cathartic. They hope you do too. Plus: Trump shows his usual lack of empathy, a US pastor nails the Kirk debate in a way few others could, and Sonny Green delivers our pudding with This Is England.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 287 of the podcast, we're joined by Ryan Zwiefelhofer (bass) and Kaylan Cloyd (guitar) of the band Acceptance. We dig into 20 years of ‘Phantoms', from their early signing to Columbia Records, its initial release, and their decision to re-record it with guest features from the likes of Teddy Swims, Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low) and many others. ‘Phantoms' is a record we hold near and dear to the pod, and it was a blast to find out the behind the scenes stories of its creation and the band breathing new life into it now, 20 years later. ‘Phantoms/Twenty' is out now on Equal Vision Records. Recorded late at night with a few glasses of wine and zero chill, Marina and Jemma are in rare form this week - extra sharp, extra silly, and absolutely savage. They dive into Nigel Farage's toe-curling testimony in the States, where Congressman Jamie Raskin delivers the kind of truth bombs that make Marina rub her knees and Jemma nearly cry with joy. From Farage's North Korea comparisons to Trump's crockery-hurling tantrums, it's a whirlwind of hypocrisy, absurdity, and late-night cackling. Expect pick-me politics, tech bro sycophancy, and a poetic ode to blankets vs. flags that somehow makes perfect sense after a few vinos. It's The Trawl at its most unfiltered - because nothing says “holding power to account” like doing it slightly tipsy.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 286 of the podcast, we're joined once again by Max Lajoie, frontman of Spite House. We dig into Max touring all over the world, leveling up as a band, Spite House signing to Pure Noise Records, and their excellent new record ‘Desertion', out September 12th, 2025. Spite House continues to be some of our favorite music we've found during the life of the podcast. Max is authentic, and it really shines through in Spite House's output. In episode 285 of the podcast, we dig into Cold's sophomore album, ‘13 Ways to Bleed On Stage'.We talk our early memories of the record, their interesting meld of sounds in this record, the all-time songs, and its legacy 25 years on. Cold, and this record specifically, continue to be underrated in our eyes, so we had to give it the Podioslave treatment. Podcast theme performed by Trawl. In episode 284 of the podcast, we're joined by Chris Teti (guitarist) and Anthony Gesa (guitarist) of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die. We dig into their come ups with the band, our mutual love of Hum, band group chats, and their excellent new album, ‘Dreams of Being Dust', out now on Epitaph Records. This was a fun one. Anthony and Chris fit right in to the Podioslave Venn diagram, and we really think you'll enjoy the record.
