In episode 292 of the podcast, we give MGMT's first album, ‘Oracular Spectacular', the Podioslave treatment. We're joined by friend of the pod, Kevin K. AKA “PRJCT MGR”. We dig into our early memories of the record, the production, the perfect side A, and everything in between. This record was a monster in the moment, and hold's up extremely well. We start the podcast talking about Kevin's new music, under the name PRJCT MGR. A new song is out TODAY, and you should definitely go spin it. It was co-produced by the multi talented Ep 280 guest Dave Gutter. Maine Gang stays on top! Check out PRJCT MGR here:IG: @prjctmgrPodcast theme performed by Trawl. Trump really wanted a Nobel Peace Prize. Trump didn't get a Nobel Peace Prize. And we're starting this week's Trawl with that delicious fact. From his ego-fuelled reaction to the prize going elsewhere, to his grotesque grandstanding in Israel and Egypt, it's all in this episode. Trump is centre stage of course, having engineered a ceasefire and subsequent deal which is now to be thrashed out by various leaders, just not the Palestinian authorities.Marina and Jemma discuss it all, the ceasefire, Netanyahu, Starmer's attempts at diplomacy cosplay, Trump forcing world leaders into awkward praise, and the very sinister undertones behind the right's rhetoric. There's even a Roman historian moment, and of course… PUDDING.Pudding is a beautiful poem by Hussain Manawar. It's called Unity - Enjoy! At time of record, the world is waiting to see if a peace deal in the Middle East has been achieved. Jemma and Marina hope with every bit of them it happens but also discuss what it might, or might not mean, in reality. Then they pay tribute to some remarkable women - Jilly Cooper, and Dr. Jane Goodall - trailblazers in their own right who entertained, inspired, and made the world better. They also touch on a very Trawly online spat featuring none other than Livia Firth, serving up some chef's kiss sass to Esther McVey.Then they wade into the Tory conference because..... someone has to. Kemi Badenoch is channelling Doge and Musk and wants to emulate ICE, Chris Philp delivers a speech that could double as a David Brent sketch, and they can't spell.Across the pond, Trump's mask slips even further as Project 25 edges closer to reality. Fascism's no longer hiding and America's veterans and voters are reacting. But with key right-wing voices starting to break ranks and Democrats finally showing some teeth, is a turning point coming? Finally, this week's pudding is a moving final message from the incomparable Jane Goodall. A quiet reminder of grace, courage and hope and a stark contrast to the political nonsense the Trawl ladies have trawled through on your behalf.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This week, Marina's on holiday and Jemma's steering the ship so expect one or two Trawl anomalies to have slipped through the net and, honestly, what a week to be at the helm. The Trawl ladies cover the horrific attack on the Jewish community in Manchester, Starmer's reaction, the subsequent mosque attack, and what happened to the flotillas carrying desperately needed aid that never made it through. Greta Thunberg proves, once again, she's got more moral clarity than most world leaders, while Trump and Tommy Robinson… do not.Meanwhile, Labour manage to disappoint on an Olympic scale, cracking down further on protest, while Zack Polanski reminds us what principled politics can actually sound like. Plus: Jemma and Marina bid farewell to national treasure Patricia Routledge. This week, Jemma and Marina are asking: what if politicians actually faced consequences? Not a cosy resignation, not a fat book deal, not a pity gig on GB News - but actual jail time. A girl can dream...Sounds like science fiction if you live in Britain, but elsewhere in the world it's apparently… a thing. In Brazil, Bolsonaro just bagged 27 years in prison for trying to cling to power - proof that karma occasionally gets out of bed. In France, Sarkozy is staring down five years for a Gaddafi-linked corruption scandal (yes, that Gaddafi - the one with the all-female bodyguard squad). And in Nepal? Gen Z set fire to Parliament and voted in a new Prime Minister while ministers literally dangled from rescue helicopters. Meanwhile here in the UK, our big act of rebellion is 100,000 plus raking to the streets to protest the exact things billionaires and think tanks told them to be mad about. Across the pond, Trump has decided Portland is a “war zone” and sent in troops - only to be met with locals posting pictures of rainbow-knitted trees, therapy llamas and burrito joints. So buckle up for another trawl through political carnage: from world leaders in courtrooms, to wannabe despots in helicopters, to Britain's unique ability to turn corruption into a career move.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Jemma and Marina are back, rummaging through the week's digital wreckage and pulling out the bits that made us laugh, rage, and despair in equal measure. We start, bizarrely, with golf. Yes, golf. The Ryder Cup turned into a geopolitical soap opera, with Rory McIlroy flying the flag, throwing shade, and still finding time to get soppy about his wife. Then it's on to the Labour Party conference, a rollercoaster of highs and lows and touch upon Starmer's interview with Laura Kuenssberg which was promptly chewed up and spat out by all the usual suspects to misquote him into oblivion.Meanwhile, Reform proved once again that when they're not playing victim which appears to be their new schtick, they're busy starring in their own corruption scandal. One of their ex-leaders has pleaded guilty to eight counts of bribery. Eight. Not even Tories manage those numbers.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In this episode of The Trawl, Jemma and Marina wade through a feed overflowing with madness - from world-shifting diplomacy to unhinged Trump theatrics.Three nations, the UK, Canada, and Australia, finally recognized Palestinian statehood, prompting Netanyahu to double down on annexation and fury. Meanwhile, the US stands alone at the UN, vetoing yet another ceasefire resolution, a move Amnesty chillingly called a “greenlight for annihilation.”Over in Trump's America, the circus rolled on: Charlie Kirk's bizarre stadium funeral (complete with merch stalls and voter booths), Trump accidentally DM'ing his attorney general in public, and Jimmy Kimmel getting briefly cancelled for daring to mock Donny. Disney silencing dissent and a White House openly threatening the press. Democracy is hanging by a thread.Plus: late-night hosts fighting back, satire that hits a little too close to home, and this week's Under Rated of the Week. All the news, none of the doom-scrolling.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Trump's in town and it's every bit as grotesque as you'd imagine. From lavish royal dinners and tech-bro fawning, to unhinged speeches, salutes from GB News presenters, and Sadiq Khan becoming the scapegoat for everything wrong with Britain. Marina and Jemma pick apart the circus and wonder what Charles and Camilla must have made of it all. But the chaos doesn't stop there: while Starmer is trying to contain the Trumps, Corbyn and Sultana's “Your Party” collapses before it even gets going. So, No one's party then? Meanwhile, Reform are busy demanding more money for Andrea Jenkyns' inbox while plotting another Windrush scandal.Still, amid the nonsense, there are glimmers of hope - from the Greens cutting through to heart-warming pudding clips that remind us humanity isn't all bad.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This week on The Trawl, Jemma and Marina take aim at Keir Starmer's increasingly head-scratching judgment. From brushing off genocide rulings to parachuting in Peter Mandelson (the man that keeps reappearing like old mildew), with his Epstein-adjacent connections. Meanwhile Donald Trump lands in the UK (awkward timing, given his own Epstein ties) to some not so kind welcomes, and the Royal Courts of Justice decide to jet-wash a Banksy mural off their walls. Throw in some deliciously naughty underrated tweets of the week, and you've got another episode that says the things other podcasts tiptoe around.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Gary Lineker boots Ant and Dec off their 23-year throne to win Presenter of the Year at the NTAs – and in doing so, delivers a perfectly tailored two fingers to the BBC. We bask in his glory before plunging into darker waters: the shocking murder of Charlie Kirk in Utah, the grotesque opportunism that followed, and the rank hypocrisy of those who once worshipped at the altar of “free speech.”Then to London, where Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk headline the biggest far-right rally in years – complete with MAGA hats, flag-burning and chants of “send them home.” We pick through the bile, the lies about numbers, and what this march tells us about the hollowing out of our national life. Jemma and Marina discuss at length what follows a very bleak week of news and find it cathartic. They hope you do too. Plus: Trump shows his usual lack of empathy, a US pastor nails the Kirk debate in a way few others could, and Sonny Green delivers our pudding with This Is England.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 287 of the podcast, we're joined by Ryan Zwiefelhofer (bass) and Kaylan Cloyd (guitar) of the band Acceptance. We dig into 20 years of ‘Phantoms', from their early signing to Columbia Records, its initial release, and their decision to re-record it with guest features from the likes of Teddy Swims, Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low) and many others. ‘Phantoms' is a record we hold near and dear to the pod, and it was a blast to find out the behind the scenes stories of its creation and the band breathing new life into it now, 20 years later. ‘Phantoms/Twenty' is out now on Equal Vision Records. Recorded late at night with a few glasses of wine and zero chill, Marina and Jemma are in rare form this week - extra sharp, extra silly, and absolutely savage. They dive into Nigel Farage's toe-curling testimony in the States, where Congressman Jamie Raskin delivers the kind of truth bombs that make Marina rub her knees and Jemma nearly cry with joy. From Farage's North Korea comparisons to Trump's crockery-hurling tantrums, it's a whirlwind of hypocrisy, absurdity, and late-night cackling. Expect pick-me politics, tech bro sycophancy, and a poetic ode to blankets vs. flags that somehow makes perfect sense after a few vinos. It's The Trawl at its most unfiltered - because nothing says “holding power to account” like doing it slightly tipsy.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This week on The Trawl, Jemma and Marina steer through a week where compassion and chaos collided. From the flotilla of medics, activists and even Greta Thunberg, risking everything to get aid into Gaza, to dockworkers in Genoa refusing to load arms shipments, there are still flashes of humanity in the darkest of times. Hugh Bonneville's rallying cry, businesses putting morals above profit, and ordinary people prepared to be arrested for protesting against genocide — proof that not everyone in the world is a hideous f@%kwit.But alas, back home… Labour descends into turmoil with Rayner out and reshuffle chaos in. Clive Lewis nails why so many think “they're all the same,” while Jemma and Marina discuss how her departure from the upper echelons of cabinet makes them feel. Meanwhile, Farage is busy lecturing Rayner on tax only to get exposed for his own questionable dealings. Quelle surprise. And then there's the Reform Party Conference. Andrea Jenkyns makes an entrance that has to be seen to be believed and heard to be horrified. Femi reminds us why the “clowns” are more dangerous than they look, and Paul Mason swoons over the lot of them. Spoiler: it's terrifyingThe Trawl ladies wrap up with Under Rated's and a Larry & Paul pudding to cleanse your palate. The good, the bad, the ludicrous — it's all in this episode of The Trawl.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. It's another wild week online including yet another internet meltdown involving a CEO. This episode begins with a new 'caught on camera' scandal at the US Open, where a paving CEO grabbed a signed cap meant for a child, sparking memes, fury, and tanked reviews for his company. Then the Trawl ladies head over to the White House Rose Garden, where Donald Trump raged about a scratch in his limestone path with more passion than he could muster for a tragic school shooting in Minneapolis. Marina and Jemma unpack the hypocrisy, America's gun crisis, and the empty ritual of 'thoughts and prayers.' And finally, there's the jaw-dropping plan to turn Gaza into a luxury resort — with Trump, Jared Kushner and yes, Tony Blair in the mix. The hosts trawl the takes, from biting satire to righteous outrage. The Under rated section is jam packed with people's takes on what Trump's brief break from Truth Social might have meant. From tennis courts to mass graves, the internet has feelings, and The Trawl is here to dredge them up.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. Summer's over, the kids are back at school — and frankly, some adults in Britain could do with joining them. In this Trawl, Marina Purkiss and Jemma Forte sift through the week's chaos on social media, from Reform UK's genius plan to cut deals with the Taliban, to Rylan's unexpected audition for GB News, to a bread shortage that isn't quite a crisis.Expect satire, sharp commentary, and clips that will make you laugh, groan, and possibly scream into the nearest pillow. Along the way, we meet Malcolm — who gifts us with the ultimate Schrödinger's immigrant argument — applaud Rosie Holt's pitch-perfect parody, and tip our hats to the great British sense of humour in the face of utter nonsense and a lot of painted roundabouts. As ever, the Trawl delivers: politics, parody, and plenty of posts you might have missed but definitely won't forget.Jemma and Marina would love you to cast your vote for Gary Lineker as best presenter in this year's NTA's - here's the link - voting ends Sep 12th. In episode 285 of the podcast, we dig into Cold's sophomore album, ‘13 Ways to Bleed On Stage'.We talk our early memories of the record, their interesting meld of sounds in this record, the all-time songs, and its legacy 25 years on. Cold, and this record specifically, continue to be underrated in our eyes, so we had to give it the Podioslave treatment. Podcast theme performed by Trawl. This week on The Trawl, Marina and Jemma don the hazmat suits and dive headfirst into the week's social media sewage. From GB News' prehistoric banter courtesy of Eamonn Holmes, to Trump's cabinet clownery, we dissect the spectacle, the sycophants, and fetch the much needed sick bags.Trump's latest descent into incoherence gets the full treatment - complete with golden desk trophies, FIFA fanboys, and Apple's billion-dollar back-scratching.Then back home, we talk Lucy Connolly: ex-childminder, arson inciter, and self-declared “political prisoner.” The Tories are calling it two-tier justice. We're calling it what it is.Plus: a pudding from comic Tom Nestor that points out the ludicrousness of the bells painting roundabouts as a show of BRITISH PATRIOTISM!Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. This week on The Trawl, Marina and Jemma wade through the chaos of anti-immigration protests, Reform Party deportation delusions, and the media's moral gymnastics over Gaza. From Union Jack vandalism to Farage's fantasy pledges, they dissect the spectacle, but it's not all memes and madness - there's a gut-wrenching update from Gaza, where journalists are being killed, aid-workers are being 'double-tapped' live on TV and Israel's and famine rips through the region. One glimmer of hope: how one clever interviewer might just be the key to helping Reform voters see the light. All that, and a pudding that'll make you laugh through the tears.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. In episode 284 of the podcast, we're joined by Chris Teti (guitarist) and Anthony Gesa (guitarist) of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die. We dig into their come ups with the band, our mutual love of Hum, band group chats, and their excellent new album, ‘Dreams of Being Dust', out now on Epitaph Records. This was a fun one. Jemma and Marina sit down with comedian, author and political outlier Geoff Norcott. Geoff brings his sharp wit and no-nonsense takes to the table. From the state of the modern Conservative Party, to culture wars, comedy in a divided Britain and why he's never quite fitted into one political box – this is a lively, funny and sometimes surprising conversation. The conversation also meanders into British people's pre occupation with class and Geoff describes what life is like as a Conservative comedian. If you've ever wondered what happens when The Trawl meets someone who doesn't always sing from the same hymn sheet – this one's for you. The Trawl ladies are back after a week off, and what a week it was to miss. From over 500 arrests in London (including pensioners with placards) to Trump rolling out the red carpet for Putin in Alaska, this episode has it all: kompromat vibes, cancelled luncheons, and Trump's aides looking like they've seen a ghost. Jemma and Marina also dive into Trump's bizarre rambles and discuss why Zelensky's face isn't made for poker. There's some time spent discussing Gavin Newsom's 'sassy' way of trolling Trump by using Trump's own tactics. Plus: Alistair Green unveils a brand new migrant hotel, Jennifer Welch goes full throttle at MAGA, and Cody Dahler steals the show by scoring a Trawl hat trick. Enjoy! This week on The Trawl, logic takes a holiday and truth is just a vibe.Marina Purkiss and Jemma Forte wade into yet another week where the internet resembles less a town square and more a hall of mirrors. There's a man convinced liberals hate breakfast, a woman who's rewriting reality on live radio, and a politician who's untethered from the facts yet remains unchallenged. The ladies begin by talking a look at Thomas Skinner and his mash-based brand of banter, a social media showdown that's pure gravy. Then, Iain Dale's Cross Question serves up some very cross answers which almost (but not quite) drown out an extraordinary statement from Jonathan Gullis.Meanwhile, Reform's Sarah Pochin is spinning baseless scare stories and Nigel Farage is doing his usual fearmongering freestyle. Also in the mix: underrated rants, underrated rage, and a touch of Samuel L. Jackson wisdom to round things off.Truth matters. And if you can't find it in the news, you might just hear it here.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast***VOTE for us in the Podcast Awards***https://www.britishpodcastawards.com/votingPatreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcastYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawlTwitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastBlueSkyhttps://bsky.app/profile/thetrawl.bsky.socialCreated and Produced by Jemma Forte & Marina PurkissEdited by Max Carrey

This week on The Trawl, Jemma is holding the fort while Marina dials in from across the pond — on an Aperol-fuelled mission to confront Ron DeSantis (allegedly).Meanwhile, Trump's been busy spreading his own unique brand of diplomacy terrorising Scotland, schmoozing Ursula von der Leyen with his usual brand of gibberish, and trying to memory-hole Epstein. He also undermines Starmer, slags off Sadiq Khan and gets annoyed with starving Gazans for not saying 'thank you.' There's some incredible South Park chaos, a Jerome Powell punch-up, and Keir Starmer's latest attempt at relatable politics – with all the grace of a Turdbury meal deal. As always, it's chaotic, unfiltered, and one hell of a scroll.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcastPatreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcastYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawlTwitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastBlueSkyhttps://bsky.app/profile/thetrawl.bsky.socialCreated and Produced by Jemma Forte & Marina PurkissEdited by Max Carrey

We dig into his nearly 40 years as a musician, his numerous projects, including Rustic Overtones, Paranoid Social Club, Armies and more, working with/winning a Grammy writing a song for Aaron Neville, and his fabulous new solo record ‘The Music Industry is Trying to Kill Me'. There is so much that went into this convo, from our early love of Rustic Overtones, to Dave's continuous work as a very talented and very underrated songwriter, and everything in between. This album was huge for us in the moment, and it continues to be one we come back to time and time again. This week on The Trawl, Marina and Jemma dive into the truly gobsmacking and head-scratching events of the week - so you don't have to. We start with Trump elbowing his way into Chelsea's Club World Cup glory, and then it's onto the swirling chaos of the Epstein files, with GOP evasions, metadata shenanigans, and conspiracy theories so spicy they could be served with fries.Marina breaks her “no implausible movies” rule for the new Superman flick that's got geopolitical undertones and triggered right-wing meltdowns, while Trump distracts with poetic vendettas against Rosie O'Donnell and sanctions on a UN human rights expert. Plus a sprinkling of some dark comedy, a few celebrity cameos, and the surreal spectacle of American political theatre - and voilà, another episode of The Trawl that's part therapy, part firecracker.Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcastPatreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcastYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawlTwitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastBlueSkyhttps://bsky.app/profile/thetrawl.bsky.socialCreated and Produced by Jemma Forte & Marina PurkissEdited by Max Carrey
Jemma and Marina are determined to ensure that The Trawl contains as many 'glimmers' as possible so begin the episode with some positive news about butterflies. Also featured is a heart warming story about raving school kids and the Trawl ladies share what each of them have been doing to mitigate how bleak the news is currently. They do go on to discuss why Rory and Alastair acknowledging that a genocide is occurring on their podcast, feels like a 'moment.' There then follows a heartfelt discussion about how they may or may not vote come the next election, and Marina poses a question which gives them both pause for thought. There are, as ever, some brilliant clips including a particularly powerful one of Jewish US actor, Mandy Patinkin. Then, did you know it's forty years since Live Aid? A certain someone has tweeted something so bizarre about it, it gives rise to lots of Trawl gold. Still, perhaps it's not quite as terrible as Tommy Robinson not knowing that migrants can be white, or Farage posing on the white cliffs of somewhere like a page 7 fella. Under rated clips and posts follow and pudding is a poem which Jemma and Marina adore and find very moving. It's by the brilliant Roger McGough. In episode 278 of the podcast, we're joined by prolific drummer, and all around awesome guy, Jay Weinberg. We dig into all kinds of different territory with Jay. Touring with Suicidal Tendencies in support of the almighty Metallica, going from playing the massive stage to the club scene in the same week, how he approaches writing/playing as a new member of a band, how playing with Bruce Springsteen in place of his dad Max helped to shape his view of family, music, and so much more. Jay rules, and this convo was a blast. Keep an eye out for Jay's drum clinics, playing King Gizzard's ‘Field of Vision' in August, and new music he's working on. We dig into all of that here as well.Photo Credit: Carly Butler (IG: @ylracbutler)Follow Jay here: Web: https://www.jayweinbergofficial.com/IG: @jayweinbergPodcast theme performed by Trawl. Hold onto your hats Trawlers. Not the cheeriest episode ever recorded but the Trawl ladies do try to provide lightness where possible so begin by reflecting on some of the good things Labour have achieved in their first year, including more free school meals, nationalising steel and rail and recruiting 6, 700 more mental health workers. And yet, does any of it make up for their complicity in the ongoing genocide? The Trawl ladies certainly think not. Marina and Jemma discuss Rachel Reeve's crying in Parliament and the subsequent market fallout and enjoy Jonathan Pie's take as a clip. And then they drag on their waders as it's off to the swampy place that is US politics. Talk turns to Alligator Alcatrez and the amount of money Trump plans to spend on ICE. The figure will blow your minds and point to a very sinister truth. One which Stacy Abrams articulates beautifully. Of course the Trawl ladies talk about the tragic Texas floods and why Musk and Trump's cuts were partially responsible, along with devastating climate change of course. There's a smorgasbord of clips as ever and powerful tweets and threads and Instagram's and all the rest of it. Pudding is truly vintage - a historic vid of a silent movie star who, when it came to fascism in the 40's could no longer stay silent. Another week trying to wade through and make sense of an insane news cycle. The Trawl ladies hadn't had Trump bombing Iran on their bingo card but that's exactly what happened last weekend when Trump single-handedly decided that that was the way to win the Nobel Peace Prize. At time of record, Trump's own intelligence reports state that the strikes weren't wholly successful. He says they're wrong, oh, and Iran and Israel don't know what the 'f' they're doing. Super. As ever there are some incredible tweets and clips to share with you and when it all gets too much, Jemma has a new ditty to inflict upon everyone. With Netanyahu continuing to do whatever he wants with no sign that international law means anything to him, and Trump thinking he can make countries do his bidding by posting his orders for them on Truth Social, Marina and Jemma ponder whether it's time for more female leaders to emerge. Emily Maitlis has a view on this too, as does the former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson. There's some White House hilarity involving a very bewildered Juventus team and a look at how the BBC are reporting the news currently. A jam packed Trawl, stuffed full of online riches. Enjoy! In episode 274 of the podcast, we pick up where we left off with (hed)PE founding members and guitarists Wes Geer and Chad Benekos, continuing our discussion on 25 years of their sophomore album, ‘Broke'.We dig into how they chose singles, how they were able to land features from Serj Tankian (SOAD) and Morgan Lander (Kittie), Chad having the foresight to record backstage home videos of touring the album, and how they look back on the album now that 25 years have passed.
