What happens when a billion-dollar dream meets the cold reality of footballing heritage? In this episode, we break down the high-stakes decline of the Saudi Pro League as the initial hype of 2023 gives way to the "Great Exodus" of 2026. We contrast Cristiano Ronaldo's relentless goal-scoring stats at Al Nassr with the "invisible man" era of Neymar at Al Hilal, and explore why elite competitors like Jordan Henderson eventually traded the desert sun for the grit of the Premier League at Brentford. It's an unflinching look at whether prestige can truly be purchased, or if the Saudi project is destined to remain a glittering, expensive footnote in football history. Saudi Pro League exodus, Cristiano Ronaldo Al Nassr, Neymar transfer news, football power shift 2026, Saudi football investment.

Jim Boardman and Jay Reid are back for another episode of Scouser Tommies, the show providing an honest assessment of all things Liverpool FC from right on the club's doorstep. Yet again—as has been the case far too often this season—very few of those things are pleasant to talk about. The hope that sprung from 5-0 and 4-1 wins against Qarabag and Newcastle respectively went out the window when Arne Slot masterminded yet another Anfield defeat, this time at the hands of Manchester City. Since the turn of the year, Liverpool have won just one of their seven league games; it's nowhere near the form required to challenge for the Champions League places. In fact, if this rot doesn't stop, there's every chance the final game of the season could see Jordan Henderson and Brentford consigning the Reds to a year without even the Thursday night stuff to fall back on. You know things are bad when you can't even laugh at the neighbours. With Everton standing ready to overtake Liverpool in the league, the club has plumbed depths rarely seen in recent decades. When things go wrong, there seems to be no Plan B—except for a Plan B that involves doing everything in even worse fashion than before. It hasn't been entirely negative these past few weeks, but the only real silver linings are that there is a talented squad at the club—even if some have been over-indulged, some aren't getting a fair crack, and far too many are being run into the ground. The "positive" to take is that another manager could certainly work with these tools and get far more out of them, but how long will it take for the powers that be to blink? And no, celebrating another empty transfer window with self-congratulatory propaganda interviews, as half the squad is out injured or on the verge of it, is not a good look, whatever your PR brain told you. Jay and Jim do their best to find some light in the dark, but they aren't miracle workers. It says a lot about the state of the Reds when one of the best goals ever seen at Anfield is completely overshadowed by the chaos that followed it. Liverpool's players looked beyond tired as that City game went on, a mirror of how the fans feel right now. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

How did Brentford generate such a high level of xG, and is the rising xGA something to genuinely worry about or simply a by-product of how the games unfolded? There's a proper debate on whether the Bees actually look better without Jordan Henderson, backed up by a Janelt vs Henderson stats comparison. Hurricane Helene washed out roads and bridges, toppled trees and made it nearly impossible for line crews to access certain areas for restoration. Part 2 of our two-part series on this hurricane looks back at the storm response one year ago, when line crews had to rely on everything from paper maps to walkie-talkies to get the job done. This episode features the 2025 International Lineman's Rodeo Duke Energy team of Miles Bell, Jordan Henderson and Heath Burrell, who share stories of working in the Bat Cave and Chimney Rock areas, setting poles by helicopter and partnering with the community and tree crews to clear fallen trees. To learn more about the restoration, listen to Part 1 or look for a future two-part series in T&D World's print magazine. You can also tune in to the episode, "Hurricane Helene: Voices from the Field." Thanks for listening to the Line Life Podcast!

On this week's episode, Mike and Dan reflect on Brentford reaching the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after penalty shootout victory over Aston Villa, as well as a dramatic finish against Chelsea in the league. Another positive performance from Keith Andrews' Bees ended in a penalty shootout against a struggling Villa side. Villa took the lead through Harvey Elliott, but an absolute worldie from Aaron Hickey levelled affairs in the second half, before Hakon Valdimarsson became the hero in the shootout after a tricky 90 minutes. We chat about Keith's approach to the cup and how it differs from Thomas Frank, the performance of debutant Benjamin Arthur, and our frightening strength off the bench. We also touch on a well deserved point against Chelsea at the Gtech. Fabio Carvalho's last minute equaliser meant the spoils would be shared after a Cole Palmer-inspired turnaround from the World Champions. We talk Jordan Henderson, long throw carnage, and players running themselves into the ground for Keith. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

On this week's episode, Mike and Craig reflect on ANOTHER dramatic couple of weeks for Bees fans. First, we had Keith Andrews' backroom staff appointments in the shape of Mehmet Ali from Arsenal, Martin Drury from Valencia, and Neil MacFarlane from Brentford B. Antoni Milambo's arrival from Feyenoord was then confirmed, and not long after that, it broke that Brentford had ‘won the race' to sign 35-year-old England international Jordan Henderson on a free transfer. Then came the news that Matthew Benham had secured new investment in the club in the form of Gary Lubner and Matthew Vaughn. Oh, and Bryan Mbeumo still hasn't joined Manchester United… PLENTY to get into. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
