In another episode of Music That Broke Me, we move on from Pump Up The Volume and into the harder edge of The Pixies. Trompe Le Monde opened up a whole world of music for me and Less Than Zero and Bright Lights Big City opened up the possibility that I could harness my own voice into my first serious novel. The books and the music brought out PJ Harvey, Beastie Boys, Radiohead, and introduced me to punk rock. Different music was everywhere, including the magazine CMJ Monthly and I took it all in. Talk about you Phillip K. Dick moves, this week’s episode is actually an older episode in which Bob and Tim discuss the 1990 Quato-caper, TOTAL RECALL. But amidst its singular reference to corn flakes, they find a strange reflection between this this sci-fi mind-bender and their own adolescent lives. So make that token “get your ass to somewhere” reference and listen to some podcast naiveté from two years prior (come on, you know its the podcast of your dreeeeams).Portions of today’s episode were originally recorded by ZENCASTR, a high fidelity podcast recording platform that records multiple guests from multiple zip-codes all as if they were in the same room. The intro and exit audio was recorded by CAST, an online audio platform that lets you create and record a multi-guest podcast straight from your web-browser. MUSIC FEATURED IN TODAY’S EPISODE:“Bird Dream Of The Olympus Mons” performed by The Pixies on their 1991 album TROMPE LE MONDE. ”Life On Mars” as performed (we’ll call it “performed”) by Barbara Streisand of her 1974 album BUTTERFLY.The use of these songs are for entertainment purposes and without the expressed permission of the recording artist.Subscribe to 20TH CENTURY POP! on APPLE PODCASTS, STITCHER and ANDROID or stream it at www.20popcast.com.Like, share and reminisce with 20TH CENTURY POP! on FACEBOOK.Follow whats not 20th Century Fox with 20TH CENTURY POP! @20popcast on TWITTER.And crop a square snapshot with 20TH CENTURY POP!@20popcast on INSTAGRAM.Contact the show with any questions, suggestions or possible topics at 20popcast@gmail.com, #20popcast on Twitter and the POP TALK section of www.20popcast.com.Follow ROBERT CANNING @rhcanning on TWITTER.
