Mrs. Robin Meyerson, West Coast Director of NASCK (National Association of Chevrah Kadisha)Mrs. Robin Meyerson has a passion, and she passionately shares it. That passion is to help prevent cremation. She exhorts her listeners: “As Jews, we are all one, so when one Jew is being cremated, it affects all of us. We must stop this from happening.” She repeats so many times that she is available 24/6 to help save a Jew from being cremated. Robin laments that there are so many misconceptions about cremation versus burial. Many people think cremation is cheaper or better for the environment. One person shared that she was scared to be buried because she doesn't like bugs! Robin clearly explains the fallacy of such thinking. She personally gets involved and does whatever she can to bring fellow Jews to proper kevurah. What does this have to do with you? There are many frum people who have non-frum relatives. And that is why this podcast is so important.  Robin's message is aimed at the frum community. Do you have a non-frum relative, neighbor or friend? Talk to them about kevuras Yisrael now, when they are still living; once they have passed on, their post-death plans will be very difficult to change. Are you scared to touch upon this topic or unsure about how to broach it? Robin shares her cell number twice on this podcast. She is waiting to support you through this vital conversation. https://www.chevrahlomdeimishnah.org/product/i-wish-someone-would-have-told-me-a-book-for-teens-who-have-lost-a-parent/ https://www.chevrahlomdeimishnah.org/product/i-wish-someone-would-have-told-my-friends/

Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

We have no understanding of the true value of any mitzvah that we do. Furthermore, what we may think is our greatest deed may not be so, and what we may think is just a small deed could actually be our greatest deed. The Nachalat David told a story of a wealthy man who passed away, leaving a massive fortune to his children. One of his possessions was what was thought to be the most mehudar(beautiful) tefillin possible. They were priceless and the children began arguing over who would get them. In the end, they were given to a child who was turning bar-mitzvah age at that time, and he ended up using them for his entire life. On one occasion, this child was traveling on business and he got delayed and had to sleep there overnight. He did not have his precious tefillin with him. He was in a neighborhood with very few Jewish people. He was scheduled to arrive home the next day before sunset and would be able to put on his tefillin then, but he didn't want to take the risk of missing a day. And so, he searched until he found someone whose tefillin he could borrow. Those tefillin barely looked kosher, but, under the circumstances, they would have to suffice. That evening, he got back home late and did not manage to put on his precious tefillin . When this man passed away many years later, he came back in a dream and told of one aspect of his judgment in Shamayim . He was told that for his entire life he never did the mitzvah of tefillin properly because his father's tefillin that were presumed to be the most mehudar were actually disqualified. He couldn't believe it. He thought he was doing the mitzvah the best way and, here, he never performed the mitzvah properly even once. But then, the Heavenly Court said there was one time when he was away and borrowed someone else's tefillin . He worked so hard to get them, and those were kosher. The man was elated to see what that one time of putting on tefillin did for his neshama . He thought that was the worst way he ever fulfilled tefillin , and in actuality it was the best way he ever did the mitzvah. We should never underestimate the opportunities we get to do any good deed. Rabbi Nachman Seltzer told a story about a woman named Robin Mayerson who became religious later in life and got close to a certain rebbetzin . This rebbetzin encouraged her to volunteer for their local chevra kaddisha in Arizona where they lived. One day, Robin called an aunt of hers who lived in Las Vegas just to say hello and, unfortunately, discovered that her uncle had passed away that very same morning. She also discovered that her aunt was planning to cremate the body. Robin tried to persuade her aunt to give her husband a Jewish burial, but she wasn't interested. Robin then called her cousins and tried to convince them. They told her they would consider it. Two weeks went by with no decision made yet. Robin decided to give her best hishtadlut . She called an organization, Chevrat Lomdeh Mishna , which arranges for Torah scholars to learn mishnayot for people's neshamot . She also gave her credit card number to the Las Vegas cemetery, saying she would pay for the burial if they decided to do it. In the end, they opted for burial and Robin made flight arrangements to be there for the funeral. At the funeral, her aunt told her, “Robin, this is your doing. G-d is going to repay you.” Robin asked one of her cousins what was the catalyst which changed their minds to give their father a burial. He replied, his father came to him in a dream and said, “Get me out of here!” Those were the only words he said, but those words could not be ignored. Robin then asked what night that dream took place and was so happy to hear it was the very same night that she paid for the funeral and for the mishnayot to be learned for her uncle's neshama . Later that year, Robin discovered she was expecting a baby. At that time, she was 44 years old. Amazingly, this baby was born two weeks overdue, exactly on the one year yahrtzeit of her uncle. She saved a soul and got a soul in return. After this, she created a website called peacefulreturn.org to educate people about the importance of proper burial. She also writes books and gives speeches around the world about the importance of kavod hamet . She is also the volunteer West Coast Director for the National Assosiation of Chevra Kaddisha. Her one deed with mesirut nefesh not only helped one Jew but spiraled into a lifelong mission of helping Jews with this very important mitzvah. Never underestimate the power of any mitzvah.

For my history, I started in the wine business in 1994 working in the cellar for Sebastiani in Lodi, after 3 years I went to work at Gnekow Winery spending 4 years working just about every position in the winery from the cellar to the lab and finally sales. I left Gnekow and went to work for Michael David winery where I was the West Coast Director of Marketing. After 2 years I had the itch to be self employed and started a small business etching and painting large wine bottles, 2 years later I sold it to an employee and started a packaging design studio specializing in wine labels. After 10 years, I was ready to work with my hands again and in 2010 Choral and I started Jeremy Wine Co.As for the future, we're very excited as we've just signed a lease purchase agreement on an existing winery outside of Lodi that greatly expands our capacity for production and hospitality but also includes a beautiful Old Zinfandel vineyard planted in the 1930's. It's a major thing for us to finally land at a permanent home for our winery.

I know what I mean when I use them. I have no idea how the people I'm texting are interpreting those emojis. Usually that's not a big deal. But what if our text thread ends up as evidence in court and now a judge or jury has to decide exactly what my thumbs-up emoji meant? Was it a firm commitment to do something? Was it just a passive aggressive way of ending the conversation? I've used to both ways, to be honest. Why is Antisemitism on the Rise and What Can Be Done About It? (30:40)Guest: Bill Bernstein, West Coast Director, American Society for Yad VashemAnti-Semitic attacks worldwide rose last year, particularly in major Western democracies like the US, France, Britain and Germany. Most of those were cases of vandalism or threats of violence. But 2018 also saw the deadliest attack ever against Jews on US soil, when a gunman stormed the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh last October, killing 11 worshippers. And in New York City, right now, police say anti-Semitic hate crimes are up 63% compared to last year. Those include Orthodox Jewish men being violently attacked in the street.  Why is this happening? Clam Gardens Provide Stable Food and Unite Generations for Indigenous Groups in Pacific Northwest (51:10)Guest: Skye Augustine, Clam Garden Project Coordinator at Parks CanadaThousands of years ago, indigenous people living in the Pacific Northwest had an ingenious way of cultivating clams for food diet. Kent Brown is a golf professional whose career and interest in the game spans more than fifty years.  His first coach and teacher was his father, who cut down a wooden-shafted five iron, for Kent, when he was only six.  His love and passion for the game came almost immediately.  Today he is often kidded by his friends as being one-dimensional.  It is however, his total commitment to his sport, and his life-long desire to improve, and help others to improve, that has set him apart as one of the top teachers in the country.  Even though Kent spends most of his time at junior golf tournaments, and teaching juniors, and adults alike; he has never stopped being a student of the game himself.  Kent feels privileged to have had opportunities for personal interaction with many industry leaders, top instructors, and PGA Tour professionals—most notably, Ben Hogan.  He currently serves on the Southern California PGA Advisory Committee. Kent played on his high school golf team before playing on scholarship at Cal State Long Beach, where he was  team captain and number-one player in his junior and senior years. After instructing golf in the US Army, Kent turned professional, and joined the mini-tour ranks.  He played competitive tournament golf for almost three years before accepting a position with the Ben Hogan Company in Ft Worth, Texas. It was there at the Ben Hogan Company, Kent continued his learning from the master. During his fifteen years with the Hogan Company, Kent became acquainted with tour player, and prominent golf instructor, Mac Ogrady.  It was under Mac’s watchful eye that Kent developed as a professional’s professional.  It was two years later, when long time friend, Dr. Tim Somerville, and Kent founded the now, world famous, Professional Golfers Career College, with campuses in Temecula, California, Orlando, Florida, and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  He served as Executive Director of the college for fifteen years, where he also taught Psychology of Golf, gave his students individual golf lessons, and taught them how to teach the game to others. After selling his interest in PGCC in 2005, Kent accepted a position with the International Junior Golf Tour as the West Coast Director.  In this role, he continues to teach and motivate the next generation of young players.   IJGT Quick FactsMission Statement: The mission of the International Junior Golf Tour is to provide exceptional junior golfers with the opportunity to develop and showcase their competitive skills while setting high standards to preserve the traditions and integrity of the game.First National Tournament Conducted: 1995National Headquarters: The IJGT National Headquarters is located on Hilton Head Island, South CarolinaTour Success: A few of the touring professionals that have competed on the IJGT Tour include; ·         Hunter Mahan, ·         Paula Creamer, ·         Morgan Pressel, ·         Rickie FowlerAmateur Success: 2009 Walker Cup Team, Morgan Hoffmann and Rickie FowlerMailing List: 5,408 plus an additional 1,600 from the Mexican Junior Golf FederationRegistered College Coaches: 300Staff: 7 full-time, 6 internsDemographic: Junior golfers range in age from 10 to 19 years old•       44 states and 32 countriesJunior Membership: Approximately 2,000 members annually (89% male / 11% female)Average No. of events played per member: 4.5Season: September – May, International events in June and July•       Summer 2010: 10 events currently being planned in AsiaNumber of Tournaments: 62 open / 5 InvitationalAverage Field Size: 84 players2009/2010 Course Highlights: TPC Sawgrass, Harbour Town, Kiawah Island, Greenbrier ResortAvila Beach Golf Resort - www.avilabeachresort.com Blacklake Golf Resort - www.blacklake.comInn at Avila Beach - www.avilabeachca.comAvila LaFonda Hotel - www.avilalafondahotel.comGolfland Warehouse - www.golflandwarehouse.comSlickstix - www.slickstix.comFor more information on Golf Talk Radio with Mike & Billy visit www.golftalkradio.com and visit www.centralcoasttoday.com for Golf Talk TV with Mike & Billy.
