Welcome to Season 9! We begin this new season with a mini, four-episode non-grad series highlighting guests whose work is harmonious with the work and ethos of the Hoffman Process. Our first non-grad guest is musician, activist, and award-winning filmmaker, Michael Franti.** As you listen to Michael's life story, you'll hear him speak of his feelings of abandonment and being an outsider. These feelings echo much of the work done during a week at the Hoffman Process. With eloquence and an open heart, he tells us his story of adoption, living with alcoholic parents, and what healing these wounds can look like. His life story is beautiful. As Michael says, you'll see what a generous gift it is to tell one's story. Originally recorded as part of an ongoing collaboration with Modern Elder Academy, Michael and Drew met in person in Santa Fe to record this conversation. Chip Conley, co-founder of MEA, chimes in at the end. This is a deep, fun, vulnerable conversation. We hope you enjoy it! **Please note that this episode is marked explicit for language and some content. We had the pleasure of interviewing Kobra Paige over Zoom video!Kobra Paige releases the title track “Like No Other” off her debut solo album Like No Other to be released on August 30th. The title track, co-written with Lizzy Hale (Halestorm) and Joe Hottinger (Halestorm) alongside producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Halestorm, Alice In Chains) showcases the depth and soul behind the creation of the entire album.“Like No Other” was later completed by Kobra at producer Brian Howe's (Skillet, Daughtry, Linkin Park) Black Stove Studios in 2021 where the addition of Sitar was introduced. This paid tribute to a part of Kobra's upbringing which involved many years of seva (service), with her family, at an ashram in southern India.Kobra says, “This song is the heartbeat of the album and the distillation of what, I believe to be, life's journey. If I were to share my essence and experience of what I know about being human, in one song, this would be it. LNO speaks to the recognition of our mind, body, and spirit as the one ‘home' we truly have in this lifetime. We are its sacred keeper and there's no limit to the number of times we can rebuild or change its path.”Kobra shares, “As we move through this song, you will hear a sonic blend of worldly drums and Indian Sitar blended with the cozy Dobro and various acoustic and electric guitar layers. This is to express the beautiful paradox of our individuality in this world while simultaneously being plugged into the tapestry of a collective. The vocals are confident yet bare to the rawness of how lonely life can still feel, despite being surrounded by so many others. The ebb and flow of forward then backward motion, we experience all the time, is expressed and celebrated for the strength it takes to keep going through the adversities we face. In the pre-chorus, we have Fleetwood Mac-esque vocal layers, some company for a weary soul. Finally, the chorus holds the wisdom and the key. I speak of the very ancient wisdom of water and use its powerful metaphor as a beacon of remembrance to everyone. One of the most difficult parts of this life- journey is to surrender and cease resisting that which we can't control. To flow like water is a great aspiration as it patiently shapes things over time, does not force itself, and yet moves powerfully when needed. Finally, a gift for us all. An important affirmation deeply rooted in ‘enoughness' and truth. ‘I Am Like No Other'. You are the only one keeping you from yourself."Kobra Paige's release of single's has been the beginning of a new journey, all leading to the culmination, announcement and release of her forthcoming record. Through song and deliberate visuals, this body of work aims to encourage self-liberation without abandoning the world. Kobra believes music plays an integral role in connecting, elevating, and healing humanity.About Kobra PaigeKobra Paige is a Canadian artist creating through the medium of music and songwriting. She is the founder of the two-time, Juno-nominated hard rock band Kobra and the Lotus. Known for her multifaceted and emotionally driven writing, Kobra is currently gearing up for her forthcoming album, heavily focused on topics of social change. Kobra launched her new project with the rock track “Love What I Hate” which debuted at 40 on the Mediabase Active Rock Chart and has become her most-played rock song to date. Kobra followed that up with her single, “Thank You” which debuted at 35 on the Billboard Adult Pop Airplay Chart, debuted as the 4th most added song to the Hot AC charts at 36, and held Top 40 for 10 weeks on both the Billboard Adult Pop and Mediabase Hot AC.We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Forest Blakk over Zoom video!Acclaimed singer/songwriter Forest Blakk has released his new EP Undone (Love & Loss), available now via Atlantic Records. The 7-track collection arrives alongside a music video companion for the title track, “Undone”.Previewed by the touching new track “You Were Mine,” the EP also includes “Love Somebody Again” – both of which recently joined much of Blakk's discography as featured music on Netflix's Love Is Blind. Blakk's catalog has become somewhat of a sonic-staple, with him having been named the “patron saint” of the show by creators with the Los Angeles Times pointing out “(Blakk's) earnest mid-tempo love songs turn up on ‘Love is Blind' nearly as often as hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey.”Blakk has spent his career soundtracking love stories of all kinds, most recently including his own with “Love Somebody Again” and “I Choose You” – the latter having arrived just days after his Nashville wedding to Tooley Jones in a beautiful ceremony covered exclusively by PEOPLE Magazine. Both songs followed 2022's intimate and relatable Every Little Detail EP, having featured his breakout Platinum-certified smash single “If You Love Her,” which alone has amassed over 470 million total global streams, earned Blakk his official US chart debut on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart, his national US TV debut on ABC's Live with Kelly & Ryan, top 30 placement on the Hot AC radio chart & saw the singer/songwriter collaborate with Meghan Trainor on a stunning duet version. Meanwhile, Blakk's follow-up single “Fall Into Me” (co-written alongside Matchbox Twenty front man Rob Thomas and Gregg Wattenberg) reached top 30 on the Hot AC radio chart and Gold-certification status in his native Canada, in addition to being featured in a perfectly fitting ad campaign for Kay Jewelers. Highlighted as one of PEOPLE Magazine's “talented emerging artists making their mark on the musical landscape” and deemed an “artist on the rise” by Billboard, Blakk made his debut with his 2018 EP Minutes and follow-up 2020 sophomore EP Sideways – the latter of which saw Blakk collaborate with the likes of Will IDAP (Train, Florida Georgia Line), Nick Long (King Princess), Carl Ryden (Ricky Martin, David Guetta), Ollie Green (Freya Ridings, Gavin James) & more to tell a love story through an incredibly realistic and candid lens. The 6-track collection featured singles “I Wish I Knew” (deemed an “introspective look at love and love lost” by American Songwriter) and uplifting anthem of resilience “Put Your Hands Up,” which debuted on an episode of ABC's Grey's Anatomy. A compelling live performer, Blakk has toured extensively supporting NEEDTOBREATHE, Gavin James, Dean Lewis & earlier this year embarked on a sold out 17-date North American headline tour.We want to hear from you! After graduating from Michigan State University in 1976 with a BA in Advertising, Paul immediately went to work selling radio for WNIC-FM in Detroit, where he realized one could actually make money selling air. After a brief stint working for the William A. Robinson marketing services agency in Chicago, where he created campaigns for Philip Morris and Seagram's, Paul struck gold when he was hired as an Account Executive at WRIF-FM in Detroit. This experience launched his sales management career, and four years later, he became the General Sales Manager for KZEW-FM in Dallas, and ultimately, the General Manager for KHYI-FM, also in Dallas. He was lured home to run WDFX-FM in Detroit, before joining Jacobs Media as its General Manager in 1991.Along with overseeing our day-to-day operations, Paul's main contribution has been the addition of sales consulting services. As an expert in all Rock formats, Paul has helped our clients open up new revenue streams by aiding them in their understanding of how to sell, market, and position their formats via sales training seminars. He's currently focused on helping broadcasters transform their business models from being primarily focused on radio, to taking a more “platform” approach, using content to appeal to new audiences and generate revenue. Paul is a true “radio champion” – someone who believes in the power of branding, and developing radio's inherent assets.ABOUT THE PODCAST: Chachi Loves Everybody is brought to you by Benztown and hosted by the President of Benztown, Dave “Chachi” Denes. Today's versatile songwriting superstar earned her stripes touring with her family band. Originally from New York, this writer spend most of her childhood on the road, playing instruments, singing and writing songs. After the family band split up, she moved to Nashville where she dove into the songwriting scene. It took many years of grinding through the Nashville scene before stringing together this most impressive 5 year stretch. She's been Grammy nominated for four years running, won a CMA Award, an ACM Award and was nominated for the first ever Grammy Award for Songwriter of the Year. Named Billboard's 2022 Songwriter of the Year and a Variety Hitmaker in 2020, she has also been awarded four NSAI Awards and presented with the Yellow Rose of Inspiration Award by the Nashville-based Song Suffragettes for her contributions to the songwritingcommunity. In 2020, “The Bones” reached number-one on the Country charts, achieving Top 10 on both Hot AC and Top 40 charts and shattering the record for most consecutive weeks held by a solo female artist after spending 19 weeks atop the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song's historic reign propelled this writer to become the first female to claim the number-one spot on Billboard's Top Country Songwriter chart, a feat she held for five consecutive weeks. The global smash also earned her several awards, including the BMI Pop Song of the Year. Her songs have also been recorded by Demi Lovato, Madeline Edward, Kelly Clarkson, Reba McEntire, Miranda Lambert, The Highwomen, Dierks Bentley, Kane Brown, Monsta X, Trisha Yearwood, Little Big Town, Ryan Hurd, Brothers Osborne, Carly Pearce, Mitchell Tenpenny and more. It's safe to say that this writer is a certified hit-maker who's work ethic and passion for songwriting have propelled her into well-deserved success.#AndTheWriterIs... Laura Veltz!! Hosted on Acast.
