Today I interview Linda Joy Myers, who had a difficult childhood marked by abandonment and an unstable home life. Her mother left when Linda was just four, leaving her to be raised by a grandmother who, while providing a stable home, also struggled with mental health issues that led to critical behavior. Linda had to focus on survival with little permission to have her own voice. One bright spot was music. Linda's grandmother had her take piano and cello lessons from a young age. Playing music became a way for Linda to express herself, feel something positive, and be transported to another world. It provided freedom and camaraderie with other young musicians. As an adult, Linda initially repeated some relationship patterns modeled by her mother and grandmother. Determined to break the cycle, she sought therapy, including an impactful 3-month group experience. Her therapist helped Linda see she was more than her brokenness. He recognized her artistic essence and held a vision of her wholeness.Linda's path led her to combine her skills as a therapist with her love of writing. She began teaching memoir writing groups and discovered the transformative power of writing one's stories. This grew into Linda authoring books on memoir writing, founding the National Association of Memoir Writers, and teaching memoir courses.Through this work, Linda helps others find their voice, write their stories, and experience the healing of being witnessed. Her own journey informs her message that even painful stories can be alchemized into something beautiful.__________________Linda Joy Myers, founder of the National Association of Memoir Writers, is the author of award winning memoirs, Don't Call Me Mother and Song of the Plains, and two books, The Power of Memoir, and Journey of Memoir. She co-authored Breaking Ground on Your Memoir and Magic of Memoir & co-teaches, Write Your Memoir in Six Months with Brooke Warner. A memoir coach for 30 years, she helps memoir writers find their voice and get their story into the world. Linda has just ventured into novel writing land, and her first novel, The Forger of Marseille, a WWII historical fiction novel won four awards in historical fiction and is published by She Writes Press.__________________Find Linda here:https://www.facebook.com/LindaJoyMyersAuthorhttps://www.instagram.com/lindajoymyersauthor/https://www.facebook.com/linda.j.myers Support the Show.I'm Dr. Doreen Downing and I help people find their voice so they can speak without fear. Loren Stephens found her way to LA from NY in a career and life transition. While there away from her Mom, she convinced her mother, ‘a grand dame' to let her write her write her memoir. In doing so, she was sparked to launch a business writing other people's memoirs.   Loren who is now “Hollywood's Go-To Ghostwriter” founded two companies. ‘Bright Star Memoirs' geared toward helping entertainment and sports figures tell their life stories.   And ‘Write Wisdom', to provide support and guidance for ‘anyone' interested in writing their life story.   Every life is unique, but not everyone has the self-confidence or skill to tell their story without help. Not even celebrities.   Her latest celeb book out is a dazzling Hollywood memoir with Jeff Margolis who produced television's most memorable variety series and specials over the past fifty years—from iconic variety shows of the 1970s to 8 Oscars!   “We're Live in 5”, is the ultimate behind-the-scenes tour says Loren, with a foreword by Billy Crystal. It's a tell-it-as-it-is with all the glamour you expect, along with a deeply revealing human portrait of working with larger-than-life personalities at television's most dizzying and demanding heights. It's also a great insider education for anyone aspiring to be an entertianment producer.   Loren Stephens own personal essays and short stories have been published in numerous literary journals and newspapers including the Los Angeles Times; the Chicago Tribune and more.   A New York native, Loren's love for the theater, film and writing is what really led her to Los Angeles. As an executive producer, she received an Emmy nomination for the PBS documentary, Legacy of the Hollywood Blacklist, narrated by Burt Lancaster. Her debut historical novel, ‘All Sorrows Can Be Borne', was originally published in 2021 by Rarebird.   Loren is a member of Greenlight Women, a dynamic and diverse community of women over forty in media and entertainment. She also serves as a National Commissioner of the Anti-Defamation League.   Enjoy this podcast of our warm insightful conversation on The Debbie Nigro Show.

https://www.allanhunter.net/ allanmatchless@yahoo.com I'm a writer and a life coach. British by birth, I've traveled widely and lived in many countries - Madagascar, Peru, India, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland amongst others. I have a doctoral degree in English Literature from Oxford University. In 1986 I moved to the US. I spent most of my teaching career as a professor of literature at Curry College and have also taught at Boston University and Bay Path University. I now have my own coaching practice. I have published twelve books so far and given nearly 100 radio/media interviews. If interested in coaching, please schedule a complimentary half hour ZOOM session in which we can meet and see if what I offer is a good match for you. How It Works Coaching is especially helpful when moving through change points in life, when looking for clarity about relationships and career, or when wanting to take creative work to new levels. All sessions are one hour long and via ZOOM at a mutually agreeable time. Most people begin by meeting once a week and taper off as things progress. Experience I've been doing this work my whole life, with nearly forty years of experience working with people aged 17 and up. I'm a professor emeritus of Literature at Curry College, and a Faculty Member in the Department of Narrative Medicine at Bay Path University. In addition to teaching Literature, I have run many courses on writing for self-exploration and counseled students and adults. Stories We Need to Know: Reading Your Life Path in Literature This works uncovers the six developmental milestones of personal development, as revealed in 3,000 years of the world's finest literature. The same six milestones appear, always in the same order, always serving the same function. I argue that this shows that this is a deep structure of the psyche, something people have known intuitively for thousands of years - and therefore it can be a road map for how we can live our best lives. Write Your Memoir: The Soul Work of Telling Your Life Story Writing your memoir will change the way you see your life. The trouble is that most people don't know how to stay with the task or sort out what's important. Based on the highly successful workshops taught at the Blue Hills Writing Institute, this book will guide you through the process - and help you discover the riches within you that you've probably forgotten about. The Six Archetypes of Love Most of us are confused by love, and falling in love can only add to the upset. So - who are you when you're in love? Which archetype will you choose to live? These six archetypes are the developmental mlestones described in ‘Stories We Need to Know', explained in terms of what it is we need to know about loving others. Knowing about them can lead us to find the core of a love that is constantly maturing and growing. Prince, Frogs and Ugly Sisters; The Grimm Brothers' Healing Tales The Grimm brothers' tales are not just disposable items for small children at bedtime. Many contain deep wisdom that can tell us how to live our best lives if we read them carefully. This book explores this topic—and it's very different from the ‘happily ever after' myth that Disney has given us. The Path of Synchronicity Sometimes things just happen, dovetailing effortlessly. What does this mean for how we encounter our world? What does it tell us when we strive valiantly, to no result? Making sense of this, which some people simply call ‘luck' is an important step if we are to live in harmony with our world, and tune into the finest aspects of who we are. Spiritual Hunger Our world is fun of people who are hungry for a meaningful existence, but who find only the junk-food of commercialism. In this book we'll discover that there's plenty of good nutritious food for our souls - if we take the opportunity to look for it. If you seek a life of meaning and wonder, then this is the book for you.
