In this powerful episode, author and cultural commentator Adam B. Coleman shares his deeply personal journey from childhood pain to redemptive purpose. Adam opens up about breaking generational cycles and transforming from a young man struggling with fatherlessness to being the father his son deserves. In his new book, "The Children We Left Behind: How Western Culture Rationalizes Family Separation & Ignores the Pain of Child Neglect", Adam unflinchingly shares his own experiences of abandonment and fatherlessness to shed light on a broader cultural crisis. He boldly challenges the notion that family breakdown is a race-specific issue, arguing instead that it's a moral failure impacting every corner of Western society—a consequence of adults who choose self-interest over sacrifice for their children. Adam is the founder of Wrong Speak Publishing, a prolific writer, and the author of Black Victim to Black Victor. His work regularly appears in outlets such as the New York Post, UnHerd, Newsweek, Daily Mail, and Human Events. He's also a contributor to Dad Saves America, where he writes candidly about parenting from a father's perspective.  Brittany and Tristan Hull, have been formally charged and are set to stand trial after allegedly starving and severely neglecting their 15-year-old stepdaughter. The child, who weighed a mere 58 pounds upon hospital admission, has sparked a community outcry and a serious legal battle against the couple. Brittany Hull entered a not guilty plea last week to charges of chronic child neglect and causing great bodily harm. The allegations surfaced when Tristan Hull called emergency services, reporting his daughter had a severe reaction after consuming a protein shake. According to court documents, the girl was found to be severely malnourished, suffering from dehydration and bone marrow failure, conditions that hospital staff attributed to prolonged starvation and restricted water intake. During her recovery at Marshfield Medical Center, the teenager described a harrowing home life where she was isolated from eating with her siblings and subjected to a restrictive diet, including water intake of only 16 ounces a day that Brittany Hull claimed was based on internet research due to an "undiagnosed" medical condition. Medical professionals, however, found no evidence of such a condition. Further investigation into the couple's home revealed more disturbing details. Security footage showed the girl being forced to endure harsh physical positions for extended periods and sleeping conditions that involved books taped to her mattress, forcing her to sleep uncomfortably without proper bedding. "The evidence presented in this case is profoundly unsettling," stated the prosecutor during Brittany Hull's court appearance. "This was a deliberate act of cruelty that went beyond mere neglect." Both Brittany and Tristan Hull have been held on a $1 million cash bond each since their arrests. With Tristan Hull also facing similar charges, the community and legal system are closely watching what could be a precedent-setting case of child abuse and neglect. The case has also highlighted concerns regarding the oversight of homeschool environments, as the victim was homeschooled, which allegedly allowed her mistreatment to go unnoticed for an extended period. As the legal proceedings continue, the Hulls are scheduled for pretrial conferences in June, where further details of the case will be scrutinized. The girl, now in protective care, has reportedly begun to recover and gain weight, showing improvements after being removed from her stepmother and father's care. This case serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities children face and the critical importance of community and professional vigilance in protecting at-risk youth. Child Neglect: Signs, Symptoms and What to Do Link for MOC Credit: https://cmetracker.net/UTHSCSA/Publisher?page=pubOpen#/getCertificate/10095849 The Center for Miracles In this powerful episode, Pediatrics Now Host Holly Wayment brings us a grand rounds talk by the University of Texas Health Science Center's Dr. Mary Ann Alvarez-Griffis, a child abuse fellow.  She sheds light on the critical issue of child neglect. Providing an in-depth analysis based on National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) statistics, she challenges common misconceptions and highlights potential outcomes for children exposed to neglect. The talk emphasizes the recurrent nature of neglect, its equal severity as physical abuse, and its long-term consequences on a child's peer relations, academic performance, and problem-solving skills. Special attention is given to children with special needs, who account for a significant percentage of child maltreatment fatalities. Drawing from her rich experience in pediatric care and community education, Dr. Alvarez-Griffis unravels the devastating impact of neglect on children's growth, cognitive development, social skills and emotional wellbeing. Notably, she underscores poverty and insufficient social support as major risk factors, presenting a comprehensive exploration of neglect statistics. The episode underscores the urgency of recognizing signs of physical neglect, fostering open, non-judgmental communication with caregivers, and effectively addressing potential issues. With detailed case studies, the discussion centers on the importance of thorough investigations and interventions. The significance of growth charts in identifying risk factors and possible neglect signs are also discussed. Dr. Alvarez-Griffiths shines a spotlight on the severe consequences of medical neglect and emphasizes the need for a consistent medical regimen for children dealing with chronic conditions. The implications of neglectful behaviors, such as untimely medical care and poor home management of serious injuries, are explored in depth. In conclusion, healthcare providers are urged to proactively leverage detailed examinations, thorough documentation, and persistent patient education to prevent child neglect and support affected families. This episode serves as a comprehensive guide, unpacking the intricate realities of child neglect, and proffering effective strategies for prevention and intervention. Dr. Alvarez Griffis has dual undergraduate degrees of Pre-medical Biology and Political Science from University of Texas-Pan American (now UTRGV). She attended medical school at William Carey College of Osteopathic Medicine prior to completing her Pediatric Residency at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio where she continued to peruse a fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics. During fellowship training Dr. Alvarez Griffis has provided community education regarding child maltreatment to various audiences from pediatric residents to SAPD. She recently participated in updating the AAP Point of Care Quick Reference section on Physical Abuse and Neglect. She is a member of the Child Abuse and Neglect Committee of the Texas Pediatric Society and is also a member of the Council on Child Abuse and Neglect. West Virginia Teen Found Dead at Home, Mother Charged with Child Neglect

In a heartbreaking incident in Morrisvale, West Virginia, a 14-year-old girl named Kyneddi Miller was found deceased and in a severely emaciated state on her bathroom floor, leading to her mother's arrest on charges of felony child neglect resulting in death. The Boone County Sheriff's Office responded to a distress call at the family home on Wednesday morning, April 17, where they discovered the tragic scene. Kyneddi, identified only by her initials "K.M." in official documents, had been largely isolated from the outside world, having stepped outside her home only a couple of times in the past four years and not attended school since early 2020. Sheriff Chad Barker told PEOPLE that the details of the case were "very disturbing and hard to fathom," indicating an ongoing and active investigation. The complaint against Julie Anne Stone Miller, 49, Kyneddi's mother, alleges severe neglect over several years, directly contributing to the teenager's death. "It's believed this neglect caused the death of KM," the sheriff's office stated, noting her "overwhelming visible condition" and untreated physical problems. At a press conference, Sheriff Barker highlighted the complexity of the case, mentioning that Kyneddi had suffered from an eating disorder for years, which had not been diagnosed or treated medically. The teen reportedly had not been eating for months, leading to her death. The medical examiner's report is still pending, which will provide more insights into the exact cause of death. No plea has been entered by Miller yet, who was arraigned on Thursday, April 18. She faces a sentence of three to fifteen years if convicted, alongside a potential fine. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, April 29, where more details are expected to emerge. The investigation also involves checking for any prior Child Protective Services records and examining state laws related to truancy and homeschooling, as Kyneddi was reportedly being homeschooled. This aspect of the case underscores the challenges in monitoring the wellbeing of children who are not in the public school system. Sheriff Barker, visibly moved by the circumstances, remarked on the emotional toll on the first responders, calling the teenager's case "pretty rough." The community and the sheriff's office are now grappling with the implications of this case, as they await further developments and the official indictment of Julie Anne Stone Miller. This case serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities children face and underscores the importance of community awareness and intervention in protecting at-risk youth. Could the trial of Jennifer Crumbley, alongside her husband James, over their son Ethan's tragic school shooting at Oxford High School, redefine the concept of parental accountability in America? This question looms large as the Crumbleys face involuntary manslaughter charges, sparking a legal and societal debate that could have far-reaching consequences. Tony Brueski, host of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, delved into this complex issue with defense attorney and podcast host Bob Motta. "This really is a case that could set quite a bit of precedent," Brueski noted, underscoring the potential for this trial to alter the legal landscape surrounding parental oversight and gun ownership. The Crumbleys' case is not merely about the horrific events of November 2021, when Ethan Crumbley opened fire at his Michigan high school, killing four students. It's about examining the extent to which parents can, and should, be held legally responsible for their children's actions. Bob Motta, reflecting on the gravity of the case, remarked, "It very well could change the fabric of our society... It's a game changer." At the heart of the prosecution's argument is the claim of negligence on the part of Ethan's parents. They are accused of missing glaring warning signs and failing to take necessary actions that might have prevented the tragedy. However, the defense challenges this narrative, arguing that pinpointing responsibility is not so straightforward. Motta raised concerns about the implications of a guilty verdict, suggesting that it could pave the way for prosecutors nationwide to hold parents accountable for their children's violent crimes committed outside of their presence. "Every prosecutor in every state will look at it and say, well, they've shown it's possible," he emphasized, highlighting the precedent-setting nature of the trial. The discussion also touched on the challenges faced by the state in proving involuntary manslaughter. "They have to prove that they had knowledge that the kid was going through some serious mental health issues," Motta explained, addressing the burden of proof required to establish the Crumbleys' guilt. The trial has sparked a broader conversation about the role of parents in monitoring their children's mental health and activities. Jennifer Crumbley's cross-examination and the closing arguments were streamed live by Brueski, underscoring the case's significance and public interest. The prosecution's focus on selected text messages between Jennifer and Ethan has drawn criticism for potentially oversimplifying a complex situation. Defense attorney Shannon Smith's handling of the case has been noteworthy, with Motta praising her preparedness and ability to challenge the state's narrative. Smith's argument that parents are entitled to hobbies and interests, even as they navigate the challenges of parenting, resonated with Motta, highlighting the unrealistic expectations placed on parents by the prosecution. As the trial progresses, it raises critical questions about the limits of parental responsibility and the societal expectations of how children should be raised. With the Crumbleys' legal battle underway, the case could indeed set a new standard for how the law views parental accountability in the context of tragic events like school shootings. As we await the outcome of this landmark trial, one cannot help but ponder: How will this case influence the legal and moral obligations of parents across the nation? And more importantly, can legislation and legal action alone address the underlying issues that lead to such devastating outcomes? Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Wisconsin Couple Charged with Child Neglect and Abuse After Teen Girl Weighing 58 Pounds Found Unresponsive

A Wisconsin couple, Brittany E. Hull, 31, and Tristan P. Hull, 38, both residents of Rib Mountain/Wausau, are facing severe charges of child neglect resulting in great bodily harm and child abuse causing great bodily harm after a shocking incident involving a malnourished 15-year-old girl.    The charges were filed on Thursday afternoon, following an investigation into the October 15 medical emergency at the Hulls' Rib Mountain residence. According to authorities, a deputy responded to a call that day and discovered an emergency medical technician performing CPR on the teenage girl inside an ambulance. Despite their efforts, the life-saving procedure lasted a harrowing 25 minutes.    Tristan Hull, who was present during the incident, told the deputy that the girl had consumed a protein shake and subsequently experienced breathing difficulties. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she became unresponsive. Brittany Hull was identified as the person with the girl during the medical emergency.    Shockingly, the girl, who had stopped growing for several years, was found to be just 4 feet tall and weighed a mere 58 pounds when taken to Marshfield Medical Center five days later. Hospital staff diagnosed her with severe dehydration, malnutrition, and organ failure. They ruled out any medical condition or self-inflicted harm, stating that her condition was primarily due to severe malnutrition.    Medical experts noted that the girl's weight was 32 pounds below the normal range for her age, and she was approximately 5 inches shorter than the average height for girls her age. A doctor attributed these conditions to extreme malnutrition.    Further investigation revealed that the girl had attended a local church's children's program for several years, and concerned church staff had observed her health deteriorate over time. According to a pastor at the church, the girl often struggled to focus due to extreme hunger. She would frequently sneak food, even hiding snacks in her pockets and eating in secret to avoid detection by Brittany Hull.    While hospitalized, the girl expressed relief at being able to eat freely and promptly gained weight. This contradicted Brittany Hull's claims that she had worked with a nutritionist to develop a diet for the girl to address her attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as the girl's brain function was found to be appropriate.    In a chilling revelation, the girl reported that Brittany and Tristan Hull regularly prevented her from eating breakfast and snacks, strictly controlled her access to food, and even placed her separately during meals. Brittany Hull restricted her water intake to a mere 16 ounces and sometimes had to feed her because the girl's wrists were too weak.    A shocking discovery was made in the girl's living conditions as well. Her bedroom had a lock on the door, all windows were secured, and an alarm system was installed. Books were taped to her mattress to force her to sleep in a certain position, and she had no blankets or bedding.    Evidence also emerged from Tristan Hull's cellphone, including messages discussing the girl shivering in her room. Security camera footage showed the girl being forced to stand with her hands raised for extended periods, crying and shaking, while both Brittany and Tristan Hull were seen entering the room and making her raise her hands higher, despite her distress.    If convicted, the couple faces a maximum sentence of 65 years in prison.    This disturbing case of child neglect and abuse has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the welfare of vulnerable children and the need for heightened vigilance and intervention in such cases.
