I don't mean every single one of us going to zero waste – that's perfection and as we know, perfection is an unattainable goal. In this episode, Lisa and Jessica discuss:The three types of college support services for neurodiverse students.Recognizing what support services your student used in high school including invisible supports they may need to be successful. How to assess the quality of disability services at colleges.Preparing your neurodiverse teen for independence and self-advocacy.Key Takeaways: Learning differences, from dyscalculia to autism to ADHD and so many more, are on a wide spectrum, and each student has different needs. You will want to identify what was most important for your student's success. The invisible support structures are those not on an IEP. They may look like medication support, parent monitoring of school work, or even waking your student in the morning. It is a team approach to support your student in high school with written and invisible structures. It should also be a team approach to understanding what is key to your student's success going into college.By ADA regulations, all colleges that receive federal financial aid must provide basic support. But if your student needs more coordinated or structured support, you will want to seek that out during the college search process. The admissions office does not speak with the accessibility office - you and your student should speak to those support offices directly. “You have to understand that that IEP does not go to college, so it will not look the same. As business owners, we constantly face opportunities to evolve, pivot, and even step back to move forward. It's about listening to your gut, making strategic changes, and sometimes taking financial steps back to leap forward eventually. What makes this week's conversation stand out is Jessica Sorentino's blend of entrepreneurial wisdom and personal branding insights.  Whether you're an author, a small business owner, or just passionate about personal branding, there's plenty to learn from Jess's experiences. Jess offers practical advice for anyone looking to build a personal brand on social media: Focus on Storytelling: Developing a storyline beyond your expertise is crucial. Show your audience that you're a real person, not just a professional. This emotional connection can foster relationships and drive your brand. Authenticity in Social Media: Aim to make your social media interactions one-to-one rather than one-to-many. Picture speaking directly to your dream follower and post content that fosters genuine connections. Content Pillars: Define content pillars or categories. Jess recommends balancing value-added posts and occasional sales posts. Four of every five posts should be community-building, and one can be sales-oriented. Journaling Exercise: To uncover your unique brand story, Jess suggests journaling your daily activities for a week, highlighting recurring themes. This practice can reveal aspects of your life and business that resonate with your audience. Are you ready to take your personal brand to the next level? Reflect on Jess's advice, connect with your true story, and watch your business expand. Jessica Fontana admits that her need to feel like she's in control impacts her journey in balancing her professional and personal life. Her passion for performing arts began with ballet, which eventually set the stage for her career in musical theater. While Jessica's mom highly supported her artistic endeavors, her father initially wasn't. She talks about her college experience at the University of Michigan and its role in shaping her career and changing her dad's mind. Married to fellow actor, Santino Fontana, she recalls how they met at Birdland Jazz Club, recounting how he left before they could get a drink together, only to friend her on Facebook later that night, slipping into her DMs. Jessica explained her shift from performing regularly to creating her album, "Every Day Special" – a transition that allowed her more control over her creative work and schedule, reflecting her desire for creative autonomy and finding joy and fun in whatever she does. Jessica Fontana is an actress, and the writer, host, co-creator, and co-executive producer of “Everyday Special”, an improvised satirical podcast. She has starred on Broadway in the title role of Rodgers and Hammerstein's “Cinderella”, “Baby It's You”, and “Pipe Dream” in New York City Center's Encores! Series. She's been seen in the hit web series “Submissions Only”, and has starred in the world premiere productions at regional theaters, including the Goodspeed Opera House, Paper Mill Playhouse, Signature Theater, and Carnegie Hall. In today's episode, I get to sit down with my new friend, Jessica Hurlbut, author of Unlimited Motherhood. We explore her profound journey of faith, motherhood, and resilience. Jessica opens up about her experiences raising two children with autism, her battles with anger and doubt, and how her faith has grown through these challenges. From witnessing a miraculous healing at camp to preventing her future husband's suicide with a timely message, Jessica shares how listening to God's voice and obeying His guidance has shaped her life in extraordinary ways. Join us as we dive into her story of dependency on God and finding purpose in unexpected circumstances. Bio: Jessica Hurlbut is a pastor, a writer, an ultra runner, and a mom of five—two who struggle with autism, two adopted, and one typical teen boy. She spent nine years in the trenches of full-time ministry until 2012 when her daughter was diagnosed with level three autism. Four years later, Jessica's son was also diagnosed with severe autism. She refers to this season as her hidden years, where God did a great and humbling work in her life. During this time, the Holy Spirit called Jessica and her husband to adopt a sibling pair through foster care, and God opened their eyes to the great need for foster and adoptive parents in this country. This led Jessica to attempt to run 110 miles in 24 hours on National Adoption Day as a visual representation of the 110,000 kids in foster care who desperately need a forever family through adoption. Jesus whispered to Jessica's heart, “If you take care of my kids, I'll take care of yours.” Anchor Verse: Ephesians 3:20 Hebrews 11:6 Connect with Jessica: Website: https://www.jessicahurlbut.com  IG: https://www.instagram.com/jessicahurlbut  FB: https://www.facebook.com/jessica.hurlbut.3  ***We love hearing from our listeners! Determined to find a way to truly be free from emotional eating so she could have the peace, freedom, and joy in her body, mind, and soul she had always longed for, Jessica knew there needed to be a different kind of support... one that got to the roots of emotional eating. Jessica Swanson is married to her high-school sweetheart. They have been married for 2 years, together for 12 years. They have 1 son who is 15 months old.  Motherhood completely flipped Jessica's life upside down and it has been a beautiful and challenge self-discovery journey ever since! She struggled with postpartum depression for the first 6 months of motherhood. She tried medication which helped for a little bit but was not something she wanted to be on full-time. Like most moms Jessica struggled to find herself and was just lost. That's when it was clear to her that there isn't enough support for moms out there. She really had to do the personal development work and search for support in order to get to the place she is at today. That is what inspired Jessica to become a life coach for moms.                                                                                       Listen to this episode of Whinypaluza, with Jessica Swanson about her personal journey from post-partum depression to finding healthy coping strategies and reducing stress. Limiting Beliefs in Motherhood: Overwhelm from societal expectations and unrealistic pressure on moms. Prioritizing what aligns with personal values and interests rather than societal should-be activities. Empowered Thought Pathways: Interrupting negative thought patterns by reframing situations, fostering empathy during challenges. Incorporating Positive Habits: Setting daily intentions, focusing on hydration, and allocating time for self-reflection and journaling. Seeking Support and Prioritizing Relationships: Seeking guidance from coaches, counselors, and maintaining connections with supportive friends and family. Nurturing relationships, communicating needs, and fostering grace in long-term partnerships. Here is what to expect on this week's show: Understanding the brain/body connection and how it leads to better parenting. Remembering our children's brains are still growing and developing up to the age of 25. Decision making, reactions, and abilities can be limited in different ways while the brain is still developing. Understanding brain development and how you can shift the way you respond and show up for your kids when they act out or have problems with impulsivity, attention or organization. How do we help a child to self-regulate? Did you know there are hidden senses? How do you identify what will help calm your child without escalating the situation? What are the Upstairs Brain and Downstairs Brain? How to diffuse a situation when you and your child are both worked up over something. Sometimes your child is unable to respond appropriately because there is too much information to process. Applying what you know about the brain to how you, the parent, reacts. Having compassion for yourself and for your child when you don't react appropriately.   Links Mentioned: The Whole Brain Child by Daniel Siegel and Tina Bryson https://www.amazon.com/dp/0553386697?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_5ZYP8RVDB7NTRE0TFB0Z Resources for Educators: https://jessicasinarski.com/resources Pre-order Your Amazing Brain: The Epic Illustrated Guide by Jessica Sinarski https://www.amazon.com/Your-Amazing-Brain-Illustrated-Guide/dp/1931636508 Pre-order Light Up the Learning Brain: 7 Keys to Reducing Disruptive Behavior in the Classroom by Jessica Sinarski https://www.amazon.com/Light-Learning-Brain-Disruptive-Classroom/dp/1931636524   Connect with Jessica: Website https://jessicasinarski.com/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/jessicasinarski Instagram https://www.instagram.com/jessicasinarski/ YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBrgcNLcawI88bOk5kmojkQ Follow Rebecca Greene Blog  https://www.whinypaluza.com/ Book 1  https://bit.ly/WhinypaluzaBook Book 2 https://bit.ly/whinybook2 Facebook https://www.facebook.com/whinypaluzaparentingandmarriage  Instagram https://www.instagram.com/becgreene5/ @becgreene5 TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@whinypaluzamom?lang=en @whinypaluzamom YouTube https://www.youtube.com/WhinyPaluza Learn more about your ad choices.
