In the last week, we have learned that Any media outlet criticizing Trump is corrupt and should be in jail; Any DOJ lawyer or investigator looking into Trump's many crimes is corrupt and will be fired; Any member of Congress investigating Trump's many crimes should go to prison; Any non-white person whether in the country legally or illegally can be snatched up by Homeland Security and immediately sent to an El Salvador prison; We apparently are at war, much to the surprise of a Congress which has the sole power to declare war; Complying with federal court orders is optional; Any judge ruling against Trump policies should be impeached; and Chief John Roberts may actually have a spine. In Michigan Governor Whitmer confirms she's not running for the U.S. Senate; New polling shows that the woman she beat by 10 points in 2022 is a contender to win the GOP's nomination for either Governor or the Senate; State House Speaker Matt Hall believes he, like the Governor, has the right to veto legislation; The battle over fixing the damn roads is escalating; Republican state Representative Bryan Posthumous, a leader in the GOP's election integrity talk, may be engaged in a little election fraud of his own; and Michigan Republicans continue to duck face-to-face Town Hall meetings, while Democrats schedule as many as they can. Joining the podcast discussion this week is fellow podcaster and longtime state capitol reporter Rick Pluta. Rick is Senior Capitol Correspondent for the Michigan Public Radio Network. He has been covering Michigan's Capitol, government, and politics since 1987. His journalism background includes stints with UPI, The Elizabeth (NJ) Daily Journal, The Oakland Press, and WJR. He is also a lifelong public radio listener. Rick was one of the first Michigan political reporters to write about “pay-to-play” fundraising, and the controversies surrounding recognition of same-sex relationships. He broke the news that Gov. John Engler was planning a huge juvenile justice overhaul that included adult-time-for-adult-crime sentencing, and has continued to report since then on the effects of that policy decision. He co-hosts the weekly podcast “It's Just Politics” with Zoe Clark. I'll be honest with you. This was one of the hardest and most emotional interviews I've ever done and for some people I know that it won't be an easy listen. However, I also know that my guest, Zoe Clark-Coates MBE, will offer so many people exactly what they need and will help them navigate an incredibly difficult experience and it is for that reason that I think that this is one of the most important episodes that I've ever published. This episode sees Zoe telling me her story, the story of how her and her husband lost 5 babies during pregnancy. Zoe goes into detail about not only how this felt but how her and her husband got through it. She talks honestly about elements of the experience that I never knew about and also about things that she needed at the time that she just didn't get from the medical world.Zoe's story is so utterly hearbreaking and yet she gives hope and incredible advice. Her losses inspired her and her husband to start the Mariposa Trust which is a leading charity that supports people who have experienced this type of loss. She has also written best selling books on the subject and become an advisor to the government.Whether you have lost a baby and need help processing it or know someone who has, then this episode will I think help you because not only does Zoe talk transparently about the experience, but she also gives hope about surviving it.If you need further help then here's a link to the Mariposa Trust
Another crisis averted after the political pros take charge in Washington. Joe Biden quietly cleans up a right-wing created mess, avoiding the shock of a first-ever U.S. credit default with deft negotiating skills and public confidence that he could get it done (and did!). Governor Whitmer takes what could be a major step for Michigan's future, or could end up as just another report getting dusty in the archives. A key Michigan congressional battleground district gets more focus as the list of likely serious Democratic contenders goes down to just 1. And the state's political/business power structure gets together on Mackinac Island to talk policy. We get an insider's look from Michigan Public Radio's award-winning correspondent Rick Pluta. Pluta is Senior Capitol Correspondent for the Michigan Public Radio Network. He has been covering Michigan's Capitol, government, and politics since 1987. On today's show we examined the race in Michigan's newly drawn 7th Congressional District. Several money tracking firms have named the race between incumbent Democratic Rep. After that, we were joined by a panel of reporters to discuss Thursday night's governor candidates debate between Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Tudor Dixon.
