In the final instalment of this three part mini series, Steve and Lesley Thomas conclude their in depth discussion on how to choose the right Alpine resort based on lifestyle, budget, investment goals, and long term return.Drawing on over 20 years of experience advising buyers across the French Alps, this episode moves beyond lifestyle preferences and into the practical realities of value for money, capital growth, rental income, and where to invest for the strongest returns.Recorded during one of the busiest ski seasons since Covid, Steve shares current market insight including increased buyer motivation, rising enquiry levels, stronger sales activity, and a noticeable shift in investor behaviour. This episode brings together everything discussed in Parts One and Two, helping listeners align resort choice not just with how they want to live, but with how they want their property to perform.Topics Covered in This EpisodeCurrent market conditions across the French Alps and what is driving buyer demandThe best resorts for spring skiing and late season snow suretyKey altitude, slope orientation, and infrastructure factors for reliable snow conditionsResorts that combine skiing with rock climbing, paragliding, and other outdoor pursuitsWhere to buy if remote working flexibility is importantAlpine resorts with casinos and true thermal spa facilitiesThe top destinations for luxury lifestyles and prime property marketsWhere to buy if headline resorts such as Val d'Isere, Courchevel, Meribel, and Megeve are out of reachSatellite villages and emerging regions offering lower costs per square metreThe Maurienne Valley and Les Sybelles as value driven alternatives with dual season appealFactors influencing long term capital growth including infrastructure investment and limited supplyExtended winter season versus dual season rental strategiesThe realities of rental yield, agency fees, occupancy levels, and value driven demandSteve also explains how buyer behaviour is evolving, with more clients seeking lifestyle acquisitions funded by restructuring existing portfolios, alongside overseas investors diversifying capital into the French Alps. The episode provides practical examples of current price points across both prime and value focused resorts, highlighting how strategy, timing, and location selection can significantly influence both enjoyment and financial return.Investment and Rental ConsiderationsFor listeners focused on return on investment, the discussion explores:Resorts with diminishing development land and limited new build supplyLocations benefiting from confirmed or proposed infrastructure improvementsThe impact of altitude and season length on rental weeksWhy value driven ski domains such as Les Sybelles can outperform expectations on occupancyThe importance of property positioning, views, ski access, and agency fees when calculating net yieldSteve also addresses a common misconception that dual season resorts automatically generate stronger returns, explaining how longer winter seasons in high altitude resorts can balance the equation.Thinking About Buying in the AlpsThis three part series has been designed to help buyers think strategically about resort selection, not simply emotionally. If you are considering purchasing a property in the French or Swiss Alps and would like to explore which resort best suits your lifestyle and investment objectives, visit:www.alpinepropertyinvestments.co.ukYou will find a wide selection of properties for sale along with contact details to arrange a consultation or viewing during your next visit to the mountains.Subscribe to our newsletter www.alpinepropertyinvestments.co.uk/newsletter-signup/ to learn more! Meet Senator Mark Kelly: distinguished Navy Pilot, NASA astronaut and Democratic Senator for Arizona, but when Kelly urged service members to refuse illegal orders, Donald Trump said he should be punished “by death”.Trump later clarified, "I'm not threatening death, but I think they're in serious trouble."Now Kelly's contemplating a run for the Presidency himself.Tom sits down with the Senator to discuss the death threats and lawsuits that have followed, why he believes you need to "stand up to bullies" and his advice to the UK: "You don't want somebody like him in charge of the UK."Is the US a reliable ally? If he was still serving, would he obey orders to invade Greenland? And what lessons can the UK learn from the MAGA movement?
In this episode Matt talks with an old friend and mentor, Dr. Tim Green. Tim and his family lived in Pakistan, Jordan, the UK and South East Asia for many decades. He is a trainer, an educator, a writer and friend of many Muslims who have come to Christ in many different contexts. He's particularly interested in the global church listening to and learning from the voices and experiences of believers from a Muslim background. What happened when terrorists attacked the school in Pakistan that Tim and Rachel's children attended? How should one respond when an African student of a fundamentalist Islamic madrassa in your city (where the students have had weapons training in Afghanistan) asks you for a bible? These are just a few of the stories that Tim shares with us.To access the brilliant courses and resources that Tim has authored or helped to create, visit: https://word.org.uk/Come, Follow Me is the discipleship course particularly for believers from a Muslim background. Episode 64: The 10 Questions You Should Ask Before Buying a Property in the French AlpsIn this solo bonus episode of the Alpine Property Podcast, Lesley Thomas takes listeners through one of the most important conversations any prospective Alpine buyer can have before committing to a purchase.Recorded during the height of the ski season, when resort schedules and client commitments are at their busiest, this episode offers practical insight while Steve and Lesley prepare to record the third and final instalment of their current mini series.Rather than going quiet, Lesley uses this episode to address a topic that comes up in almost every buyer conversation. Whether you are purchasing your first Alpine property or adding to an existing portfolio, there are certain foundational questions that determine whether a purchase truly works for you over the long term. This episode focuses on the ten questions every buyer should ask themselves before buying a property in the French Alps. These are not surface level considerations. They are the questions that influence lifestyle satisfaction, financial comfort, flexibility, and resale potential long after the excitement of the initial purchase has passed.Topics Covered in This EpisodeUnderstanding your true motivation for buying in the French AlpsWhether you are buying for present use or future life stagesChoosing a resort that genuinely fits your lifestyle and usage needsSetting a realistic budget that includes all associated costsRental performance considerations even when income is not the main driverUnderstanding the French legal and ownership frameworkDeciding how hands on or hands off you want to be after purchaseAssessing long term resale and liquidity potentialBalancing emotional excitement with clear decision makingThe importance of having the right guidance throughout the processLesley explains how different answers to these questions naturally lead buyers toward very different resorts, property types, budgets, and ownership structures. She also highlights common mistakes that occur when these questions are not addressed early enough. This episode is particularly valuable for buyers who want confidence and clarity before taking the next step, and for those who want their Alpine purchase to support both lifestyle enjoyment and long term peace of mind.Thinking About Buying in the AlpsThese ten questions form the basis of the conversations Steve and Lesley have with clients every day. Not just around what to buy, but why they are buying and how that decision fits into their wider lifestyle and financial plans. If you are considering purchasing a property in the French or Swiss Alps and would like to explore your options in more detail, visit:www.alpinepropertyinvestments.co.ukYou will find a selection of Alpine properties for sale, along with contact details to arrange a conversation or viewing.Thank you for listening to the Alpine Property Podcast. This is the testimony of Esther, an Iranian lady who grew up as a Muslim under the Ayatollah's Islamic regime. Her story is a powerful one - of religious rituals and rules, of strict segregation, of being silent and unseen. She had only 8 hours to flee the country at one point because of a particular threat of being reported to the government. Her husband got caught and imprisoned on that day. In the UK, Esther began a journey to Jesus that involved visions, paintings, Scripture that came into her mind (though she had never seen a Bible) and a powerful dream. This is an amazing story of freedom - in more ways than one.Support the show_________________________________________________________________________________Do get in touch if you have any questions for Matt or for any of his guests.matt@frontiers.org.ukYou can find out more about us by visiting www.frontiers.org.ukOr, if you're outside the UK, visit www.frontiers.org (then select from one of our national offices). In our final episode of 2025, Jeremy and Tim spend some time exploring the life and times of Bruce Springsteen. Tracing his life from his early career up to 1984, they unpack specificities of the Boss's politics, his particular aesthetic, and the often confused reception of his repertoire. We hear about the sense of place in his music, the influence of Dylan on his writing, the iconography of the small town and the big car, and his various attempts to express a white vernacular working class experience. Jeremy describes how Springsteen's songs of New Jersey post-industrialisation were heard in the cities of North West England, Tim interrogates his endorsement of Obama, and both try to understand his unique mass appeal in the USA, with callbacks to Zohran and our recent Dylanology episode. This is our last show of the year - thank you everyone for coming with us on this long strange trip. In this episode, Kate is joined by Aileen Harvey and Julie Fahy – best friends and hosts of the You Keep Me Sane podcast – to talk about what it really means to support a friend through separation.A separation story in voice notesKate begins by hearing Aileen's separation story, how her friendship with Julie began and how it became a vital source of comfort. They share how Julie supported Aileen - not by offering solutions, but by simply listening - and why that kind of steady presence from a friend can mean everything.Aileen and Julie also explore what makes a great friend during life's hardest moments and the surprising power of long voice notes. They finish with their best tips, from both perspectives, on how to show up with care, patience and love when a friend is going through a separation.Trigger warning: There's a brief mention of physical injury at the start of this episode.Meet the hosts of You Keep Me SaneAileen Harvey is a Scottish-born Londoner with a life story shaped by resilience, reinvention and a deep desire to support women through life's challenges. With a background in the high-pressure world of finance, she spent years navigating a demanding, male-dominated industry before burnout pushed her to reassess what truly mattered. Facing the ups and downs of perimenopause, parenting a teenager and embracing life's complexities inspired her to co-create her podcast You Keep Me Sane. Julie's journey has always been driven by a search for depth, purpose and connection. Her love for people and their stories led her to a career in documentaries, filming for National Geographic, BBC and Discovery Channel. Yet, despite the dream job, she felt an inner pull toward something deeper. Studying psychology and Kabbalah, becoming a mother and embracing life's challenges helped her find that missing connection - not through achievements, but through vulnerability and growth. Now based in Melbourne, Julie's life experiences, from global travels to motherhood, have inspired her to co-create You Keep Me Sane. I'm so pleased to share my conversation with the thoughtful, fun, and exceptionally creative visual artist, Sophie Sherwood. We spoke about Sophie's passion for community and connection and how they became enthralled with photography, from early college days to how their work now explores the self and nature through light-sensitive materials and sustainable darkroom techniques.Sophie spoke candidly about how the unexpected death of her father has informed their practice on an on-going basis, plus how fun and laughter within the workshops they deliver is important. This is also evident in the funny tales about 'mud' developing and an accidental smelly darkroom incident. We chatted about those who inspire Sophie, their inspiring work as the manager of The Folkhouse Darkroom in Bristol, and how their self-portraiture project makes for a diverse and exciting practice.Keep up-to-date via Sophie's website at sophiesherwood.co.ukYou can also follow them on Instagram: instagram.com/photosophiausI'd love to share your eco-photographic story too - contact me via my website - josiepurcellphotography.com - to take part, whether you are just starting out or have a ton of photo tales to tell.

In this episode we meet a young ex-Muslim called Shahriq Khan, who grew up in New York to immigrant parents from Pakistan and India. Shahriq in many ways embodied the American dream, the son of immigrants who achieved great success in education and business. But then he began to question the faith he had been raised in. And his searching led him to Jesus. His story has not been without many trials, including rejection, criticism and pressure from his family and friends to come back to Islam, and a season of partying that led to a period of deep depression and hopelessness. But the Lord's kindness and grace has drawn him back into great community, where Shahriq testifies to a journey of healing and deliverance, growth and discipleship – and a huge heart to bring the gospel to Muslims and to teach others how to do so. The Church of England's Church Commissioners are ear-marking £100million (or is it £1billion?) for slavery reparations. Emeritus Professor of Moral Theology and Member of the House of Lords, Nigel Biggar says that this idea is ethically dubious and amounts to thinly-veiled self-flagellation in an effort to appear relevant to a post-Christian society in the face of the Church's dwindling numbers and influence. CofE rev with a difference Jamie Franklin sits down to talk with Lord Biggar about his new book and related issues:The shady world of the Church of England's Project Spire: its methodology, processes and rationale for reparations.Historical arguments for and against reparations by the Church of England. The wider context of the ethical debate around reparations including the ubiquity of slavery, British abolitionism and the suppression of slavery, and the "riotous jungle of history".Why arguments for reparations are based on a lack of understanding of, and sympathy for, our forbears. What is the relationship of Woke orthodoxy to Christianity. The Early Church and slavery. The legality (or not) of reparations.Hopes for the new book and the future Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, vis-a-vis this issue.Find Lord Biggar's Substack 'The Biggar Picture': https://www.nigelbiggar.co.ukYou make this podcast possible. In this episode we meet Yasmeen, a lady from rural Switzerland who has spent more than twenty years in Africa. You'll hear about bold African evangelists forced to dig their own grave for preaching in a certain village, the beginnings of a movement to Christ in Darfur (in the midst of years of horrific violence and civil war), the smuggling of bibles in peanut sacks, and how Yasmeen's husband was regularly interrogated by the police. This is a powerful story of incarnational love, of unlikely friendships, of Muslims finding the truth about Jesus, of hope for hopeless refugees in Sudan. In this episode Matt & Mike do some myth-busting, challenging many of the half-truths and misunderstandings about mission in today's world. Here are the 10 myths that they tackle:1. There are churches all over the world. Our task is done.2. There are too many needs around us. 3. Mission is everything we do. (Everyone is a missionary.)4. We should just send money to local evangelists, who are more effective.5. Mission is 'West to the Rest' (a neo-colonial endeavour).6. Missionaries are super-spiritual - and I'm not.7. Missionaries are super-gifted - and I'm not.8. Missionaries receive a special call from God.9. Missionaries have to give up their careers to go.10. Missionaries live in mud huts. In this episode Ahmed shares the mind-blowing story of how he came to Christ from a very strict Muslim family background. He learnt the Quran by heart as a child, his father was a Mufti (a religious scholar) in Mecca, the birthplace of Islam. His tribe in Saudi Arabia is one of the most radical in their commitment to Islam and hatred of infidels, with several of them involved in the 9/11 attacks. But the prayers of some believers in New Zealand led to Ahmed having an amazing dream of Jesus, which changed everything. Years of rejection, ostricism and persecution followed his decision to follow Jesus, even bringing assassination attempts to prevent him attending church and sharing the good news. And yet he has persevered, refusing to give up on his Saviour and Lord.He now runs an online ministry into the Middle East, leading many Muslims to Christ and discipling countless others.Enjoy this incredible story, like a modern day version of the book of Acts! The church in Iran today is thought to be the fastest growing church in the world, in spite of intense persecution. Why is that? In this episode Matt talks with Lana Silk, the CEO of Transform Iran. Lana grew up in an Iranian Christian family in The Islamic Republic of Iran during the Iran-Iraq War and the early years of Ayatollah Khomeini. She talks of the state's indoctrination of even primary school students - teaching hatred towards Israel and America and she relates the harsh curbing of freedoms in those years, particularly for women. But she also recounts how the same strict form of Islamic Law and Government in Iran unexpectedly has led many Muslims to a hunger for something different, leading hundreds of thousands of them to discover Jesus.Check out and get behind Transform Iran's incredible ministry by visiting transformiran.comSupport the show_________________________________________________________________________________Do get in touch if you have any questions for Matt or for any of his guests.matt@frontiers.org.ukYou can find out more about us by visiting www.frontiers.org.ukOr, if you're outside the UK, visit www.frontiers.org (then select from one of our national offices). Her husband, Shino, spent years trying to convince her to return to Islam, all the while protecting her from the terrible threats against her from her own family and community. Eventually he too accepted the truth of the gospel. They now run a gospel media ministry through which thousands of Muslims in Somalia and around the world are coming to Christ. Sleep is something we all do, or at least we're supposed to do. But for many people, it's far from a restful reset; it's a daily struggle that affects every part of life and is a powerful took for protecting both our mental and physical health. I was keen to chat to Dr Lindsay Browning, psychologist and sleep expert, about the biggest misconceptions around sleep and how we can help ourselves when it comes to resting well. From improving memory and mood, to long-term health, Dr Lindsay breaks down what sleep actually is, and explains how the brutal cycle of insomnia is usually triggered by an anxiety which is often easier to treat than many realise, offering real hope to anyone feeling stuck. I then asked her about sleeping trends - mouth taping, sleepy teas - is there any truth in these, and is eight-hours really the optimum amount of sleep to get? She also explains why teenagers are biologically programmed to wake up later, and even answers my burning question: should you sleep naked? This is a fascinating conversation about something that makes up a third of your life.If you want to find out more about the work Dr Lindsay does, you can find her on @DrBrowningSleep or troublesleeping.co.ukYou can also follow us on Instagram and Tiktok @greatcompanypodcast and if you've got thoughts, questions and comments, you can email us at greatcompany@jampotproductions.co.uk--THE CREDITSExec Producer: Jemima RathboneAssistant Producer: Gurlina HeerVideo: Jake Ji & Ryley KirbySocial Media: Laura CoughlanGreat Company is an original podcast from JamPot Hosted on Acast. NB. This is a story of abduction by extremists and there are mentions of torture. In that regard, it is not suitable for younger children. In this episode we meet 'Jonathan' whose story is somehow chilling, gripping and inspiring all at the same time. His imprisonment by Islamic extremists lasted for many months and, for most of that time, he never knew whether execution or release was the more likely outcome. Contrary to his own expectations, he wrestled again and again with despair and with his inability to sense God's presence or to hear his voice. But eventually he was released and you can hear one of the most honest and faith-building stories you're ever likely to hear._________________________________________________________________________________Do get in touch if you have any questions for Matt or for any of his guests.matt@frontiers.org.ukYou can find out more about us by visiting www.frontiers.org.ukOr, if you're outside the UK, visit www.frontiers.org (then select from one of our national offices). In this episode Matt interviews Jamie Winship. Jamie tells some amazing stories from when he served in law enforcement in the Washington DC Metropolitan area, including a miraculous revelation during an active kidnapping case. He then goes on to explain how the Lord led him and his wife, Donna, to serve overseas and invite Muslims into the kingdom of God over many years in Indonesia, Iraq and Jordan. Jamie argues strongly that we should use biblical terms around the kingdom of God, rather than ‘conversion' when talking about Muslims coming to Christ. He shares mistakes he himself made in his early years on the field. He also shares how the Lord taught him to love his ‘adversaries', step into obviously dangerous situations (like a car full of Muslim extremists who wanted to execute him) and how to have a godly impact on diaspora Muslims in the West. In this episode Matt interviews Donna Winship. She and her husband Jamie spent 25 years living and working in the Muslim world: Indonesia, Iraq & Jordan. In those locations their greatest joy was seeing Muslims discern the voice of God, enter into the kingdom, be healed and follow Jesus. Donna shares how they learnt so much about faith and mission from their own mistakes, from fellow workers and from painful trials (team-mates in Indonesia who were stabbed, others in Iraq who were shot and killed, a court case against Jamie for breaking Sharia law etc.). In the midst of it all, they have come to discover their God-given identity and His purpose for them and for the nations, something they now teach others how to do through their ministry called Identity Exchange. Donna also tells how she came to follow Jesus from a Jewish family background, with fascinating insights for those who work with Muslims or Jews. NB. This episode contains one harrowing story of sexual violence. In that regard, listener discretion is advised and it will not be suitable for younger children._________________________________________________________________________________Do get in touch if you have any questions for Matt or for any of his guests.matt@frontiers.org.ukYou can find out more about us by visiting www.frontiers.org.ukOr, if you're outside the UK, visit www.frontiers.org (then select from one of our national offices). In this episode Matt talks with an old friend from the earthquake relief work in Pakistan. Andy Kampman grew up in rural Iowa, but in the winter of 2005 he responded to a call to spend a few weeks building shelters in the Pakistani Himalayas for the thousands who had lost their homes. Those weeks were hugely significant for Andy in terms of growing to love Muslims and wanting to share the good news with them.Andy shares various stories from times he spent in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Lebanon and how the Lord actually called him to stay in the USA - to motivate, encourage and mobilise others to go to serve amongst the least reached. Now based in Texas, Andy is part of a church that has, quite amazingly, sent out around 300 long-term workers in the last 15 years! He also runs an organisation called Launch Global, which prepares and equips workers to thrive on the field and partners with churches to help them send effectively._________________________________________________________________________________Do get in touch if you have any questions for Matt or for any of his guests.matt@frontiers.org.ukYou can find out more about us by visiting www.frontiers.org.ukOr, if you're outside the UK, visit www.frontiers.org (then select from one of our national offices).
